Good morning……. Hope everyone had a wonderful and enjoyable Mothers day. I have to say mine was beyond horrible but had a very happy ending. Our beloved Teddy went missing for seven long excruciating hours, it was heart wrenching to say the least. On top of our own incredible sadness and distress, seeing my son so distraught, practically unable to speak and express himself because at 15, he was trying to remain strong and “be a man”. My mothering skills were put to the ultimate test and I realized as I saw my son cry silently in the back seat during our many hours of searching, doing his best to hold it in as most 15 year old “young men”  feel they should, at that moment I was helpless to take away his pain, I couldn’t make a promise Teddy was coming back. Seeing the tears stream down his face just broke my heart….his best friend was gone.  I was in so much pain watching him suffer like that on top of my own distress thinking about where he was or worse if someone had taken him
It was a really rough day, we spent seven hours canvasing every street and driveway, walking around, frantically screaming his name and praying. With every passing hour, we grew less hopeful, more worried and I silently panicked as I thought about the sun setting and Teddy being out on his own in the darkness. Finally at around 6 pm feeling totally defeated, I got a call from someone who had gotten my info from the police dept. who had found him!! I don’t need to tell you the happiness and feeling of elation and celebration that went on in our household at that minute. We were all so emotionally drained though I felt like I had done battle, and by 8 I was in bed closing my eyes. (We had had dinner plans with family but the plans had been canceled when all this happened, no one in our family had an appetite) It was a long heart wrenching day. I am still feeling shaken but so happy he is home. I hope your day was much much less eventful! I am just so glad this story has a happy ending…….Teddy is home safe and that is what is important, we are all back together 🙂 Alls well that ends well.
When I think of rustic and rambling, farmhouse chic, country charmer,…..I think of lots of wood, beautifully aged timbers, wide planked floors, small cozy rooms, endless vistas of breathtaking land, lots of vintage looking fabrics, worn linens, aged looking cabinetry, geometric worn rugs, antique dishes,…you get the picture. Maybe its the crazy hurried, frenetic pace that I live my life (and I probably aged another 15 years just yesterday) but I find myself fascinated, captivated and increasingly drawn to the easy, calm, genteel world of country living. Something about the way time seems to stand still at least for a little bit. Maybe its all in my imagination, and even in the country…..maybe even there the pace has picked up but I am going to keep my little fantasy alive, thank you very much!
I love the way, the rooms are decorated, not overdone, nothing too shiny, every thing with a slightly worn and lovingly used feel, they have character, a personality and each feels authentic. Elegant, but casual and mostly very livable. There is not a “formula” to decorate these rooms..that’s what I love, they are each so individual. The chances of me one day owning one of these fabulous rustic and rambling homes is unlikely….but its fun to dream as I always say. My dream would be to own one in Napa valley, have a few acres to toy with growing grapes as a hobby, have a few horses,  my vegetable, rose and herb garden, open a small farm to table restaurant on the property (of course that would become wildly successful and be hailed as the “best kept secret in America”) then keep my house here on the east coast. Now THAT would be ideal! So here is my interpretation of rustic and rambling and its many variations….what do you think?

So….what do you think about this style? Though it doesn’t fit into my own personal style nor the house I am building I definitely have an apprecaition for it and possibly even more, because of the lifestyle I envision it represents….what do you think? It does make a strong argument for country living. Something about having a charming little cozy place in the country to escape to sounds pretty wonderful! Hope you have an enchanted day.

Oh my gosh – knowing both the pain and heatbreak that comes from losing a loved pet and never finding them and the elation of losing one that comes back home…I really feel for you and your family. Thank goodness Teddy is back home!!!

You poor thing! I feel your pain. We had a simliar situation about 3 years ago, our little guy “Henry” was gone three long days. We were beside ourselves. Finally he came marhcing home one afternoon…go figure. It is hard to describe unless you have experienced it. So happy there was a happy ending.
This is such a great post. I love this look, it IS so inviting and relaxed. It is very appealing. I love the dining room and bedroom with the European flair…so pretty:)

So happy that Teddy was found and returned! Losing your dog is the worst!! We have been through it too…
The rustic country elegance is one of my favorite decors. So many great images here Tina.

Dear Tina,
I am not sure I was truly able to see the images you posted. My heart and head were still with Teddy and your family. Especially your son. So happy it all ended well. At the end of the day, it’s sort of what being a mother is all about, don’t you think? I hope you have another special dinner with everyone.

I can see how you would want to look at these peaceful country interiors after your ordeal with Teddy! They are very soothing. I too would love a second home in the country just to be able to indulge in that gorgeous rustic, shabby chic style.

I’m so glad that your Teddy made his way back home. I bet he gave you a couple of grey hairs, lol!

I am so sorry you had to go through that. I think if people don’t have a pet (or aren’t very attached) it’s hard for them to understand. Our black lab is our first “child” and when she takes off we really panic! I am so sorry it took so long for you to get the relief of knowing he was home safe and sound! I would think some time spent in any of these beautiful spots would calm you down quite a bit. Fingers crossed that today goes much better!

So happy to hear that Teddy’s story has a happy ending. It is a horrible feeling and unfortunately, one that I know all too well. I went through the same situation years ago when my dog (at the time) got out in a snow storm, but we too found him (actually, he someone else found him.) Anyway, I love the rustic country chic look, like in the last image. I think I need a ski home or perhaps a home in Woodstock to achieve this look! It embodies the spirit of enjoying life, not worrying about little imperfections and my favorite, it isn’t too homegenous.

I’m so sorry you guys had to go through something like that on Mother’s Day. I’m glad you found your puppy, but I can just imagine how you guys felt. At least, everything is okay now, right?

I love country chic. It’s so inviting and usually, so “homey”. You’ve inspired me with this post. Thank you!

Have a blessed week!

Thank goodness Teddy is home safe and sound! I can’t imagine how stressful that must have been for your family. The only time I have seen my dad cry is when our dog died. There is something about the bond between man and dog that is like no other. I hope your son and Teddy have many more happy years together 🙂

I love these images. I think this is my favorite decorating style. I’m not sure my house truly lends itself to this decor, but if I could make it work, I would.

I hope you have a calm, relaxing, stress-free day today 🙂

We are all so relieved you found your Teddy!
For sure the best “Mother’s Day Gift” you could have received! I bet you all slept soundly last night:)
I love all the images you’ve shown.
I don’t know how you find so many and all so stunning!
So much eye candy!!!
Wishing you a great week!!

So sorry to hear about your Mother’s day scare. We are so glad Teddy is home safely!!! Beautiful images…with such an inviting appeal. We have decided that since we love so many looks, we should have several different hones so we can try all the many looks that we love. Dreaming BIG!!

You need a mother’s day do-over!! I can’t even imagine. I’m so glad it had a happy ending, but I agree seeing your son so upset and knowing that you can’t make it better would be the worst feeling ever.

I love he rustic look and always imagine it for my second or third home 🙂 My husband often looks at me like what kind of world are you living in when I say stuff like, “sure, I like that for my vacation home”

Oh gosh Tina! I am so happy you found Teddy! Heart wrenching story, and on Mother’s Day at that. Glad all was well in the end.
Love all of this images! Lost track of the favorites.
Have a great, relaxing Monday.

I know exactly how you felt yesterday! We’ve had the same experiences before. Our dogs are so important in our family, like your Teddy. But, great news in the end. Hug your son. I can only imagine how you felt for him. After all that & you produced a post as magnificient as this one, which I love. xx’s

I can so appreciate how you felt when your dog was lost. It’s amazing the love those little fluffy things give us for so little in return. Happy to hear he’s home safe and sound.

– The Tablescaper

I’m so glad you found Teddy! I can’t imagine what I would do if my puppy went missing. I can’t even imagine how difficult it must have been for your son, especially at that age where it is so difficult for boys to express themselves.

Tina,

Oh my I was holding my breath as I read about the “where’s Teddy on Mother’s Day 2011.” Did he explain himself yet?…after all the tears, hugs, kisses and treats.

I think it’s time to add a gps tracker to his tag and every cell phone should have an app for it. You may have to track his moves in the new home that little sweetie…I am so relieved you and your family slept well. Teddy has a saint’s
covering over him no doubt. I’ll be including you and your family on my graditude list for sure.

Now onto the post…focus…Oh my lord I need a vacation after this post. Well I love the country vacation back to basics feel about it. Change and experience ignite our sense of self and it keeps us centered and for that reason I love the rustic feel. Calm colors seem to bring out a purity of life in these settings and they are not for everyone all the time but it’s fun to vacation there.

Blessings today,

Bette

So glad that Teddy has been found! I could feel your distress through the computer. Thank goodness for happy endings! I can’t even think about the day we’ll have to say goodbye to our beloved Corgi, Spencer.

*** Dear Tina~

“Been there, dun that”, so I know E*X*A*C*T*L*Y how you were all feeling (ie: “sick”), & it just tears me apart thinking about it! Lord it’s a HORRIBLE thing to go through!!! (Mannny years ago, our Sam went missing~ in the middle of a freeeezing, snowy Chicago winter… our BLESSED REUNION, w/ him healthy, etc., was like in the movies when the boy & girl runnnnn across an open field, arms outstretched,& happy music playing until they are once again, safe & in each others arms!)… CONGRATS!!! … and if Teddy was out “havin’ fun”, shame on him for worrying y’all to pieces!!! (Then again, you can’t be angry with him cuz you’re just toooo excited he’s back home with y’all, safe n’ sound, right?!?!?!)…

Re these WONNNNNDERFUL pics you shared~~~ I’m right there with you!!! Your interpretation of “rustic and rambling” goes perfectly with MINE!!!

Since Teddy is now back where he belongs and is loved, cherished and appreciated, it ended up being a GREAT Moms’ Day AFTER ALL, huh?

Warmest wishes to everyone,
Linda in AZ *

Oh my dear, you gave me such an inspiration today!!! I am in the middle of designing a country kitchen!! Thank you, thank you for this post!!!
Kiss,
Greet

I can relate to the sadness and worry of yesterday in losing your pt and happily he was found. What is in telling such story of fear and anxiety is that we remember moments like that with our own kids and it pins us down to what motherhood also is. Thank you. All is well now, and to celebrate I put you up on my blog again. I love your blog so much.

So thrilled Teddy is home – for all of you!! I could completely decorate my imaginary country home from these beautiful images…the first one is perfection!!

You know, I just can’t get beyond the Teddy story, and how ghastly that was for everyone. Having been through a similar ordeal but without a child to console, I can only imagine what a horrid afternoon it was. I am so, so sorry about the situation, but ever so grateful he was found.

Hopefully you can get him a chip or a GPS on his collar in case he decides to go exploring again!

Hugs to you Tina,
tp

Gulp. That breaks my heart as we have roamed the bushes calling for our beloved pet with the sound of coyotes howling and the look of terror on the face of children. You brought Mother’s day to a new high, my friend through your courage and good mothering skills. So glad your day ended well.

Now to the decor (inhale breath) ~ I have two Adirondack books on my table dripping rustic charm. My dream is to summer in a great camp. I’m afraid it will have to come in the form of a book but one can always hope.

Tina, I am so happy for all concerned that Teddy made it back home!!Whew, that had to be so exhausting. Now as far as rustic it is not my own personal design aesthetic, but I will have to admit several of the above images drew me in, they were very charming and inviting,Kathysue

OMGoodness I am so glad you found your Teddy and he is home safe and sound!!! Your poor son, trying so hard to be STRONG! The pictures, as always are amazing! I don’t know how you find the time to put these posts together! With all that is going on, you are a wonder! But it is all so appreciated. XO, Pinky

Tina,
I am so relieved that Teddy was found! Sounds like an excruciating day for all of you.

Rustic and rambling and calming is exactly what you deserve. I love all of the look above…and wonder if we’ll be able to create something like this on my husband’s family ranch someday. I think to create a place that can envelope a family with warmth and relaxation is one of my ultimate goals!

xoxo Elizabeth

I’m so glad you found Teddy, I die when I hear stories of lost pets. I lost my cat once for 14 days in a nasty snowstorm and so many kind people called and gave me clues and a kind couple finally found him. Don’t you just love the kind people who help you??

What a mother’s day! So glad you found Teddy. I love country chic decorating. I don’t think I’d have it in my own home, but I would love to have a second home on a farm to decorate this way!

I’m so glad Teddy is safe! That must have been so scary! I love the idea of having a country home and decorating it like this! I love the bathroom picture from Country Living. It’s rustic, yet chic!

I am so sorry that Teddy got lost……how terrible is that? and I feel for you with your son….It’s hard to see them so sad. One of my son’s best friend moved away a few years ago and they were 7-8 at the time and my son sobbed and sobbed…I just had to sry with him and hold him…it was so hard for him because they were so close and were in every class together. Thankfully his best friend visits twice a year and they pick up right where they left off. Your son is so blessed to have you! Your prayers were answered. oh and I love rustic..so much fun and relaxing. Easy enough to put your feet up without a care in the world.

Better late than never. Seriously, no pun intended when I say that I have been thinking about you all day long.
Oh my Lord. I just keep closing my eyes and thinking what if…..I cannot imagine how insanely worried you must have been for Teddy of course but also for your son. I really have no words so I’ll just wrap my arms around you and send a big hug and hip hip hooray that he was found! A Mother’s Day like no other I am sure.
Ok now I can go back to your post and enjoy your rustic collection- just had to get to the comment box asap!
Xo Lisa

Ok I’m back. I think I now can tolerate rustic! Having seen what I think might be a Hepplewhite dining table and chairs among all that rustic charm has me convinced that rustic done right is really a nice look. Of course you always find the perfect examples.
Kiss Teddy for me.
xo Lisa

Tina,
That’s what Mom’s Day is all about! You got your Teddy back and were able to be a Momma to your son. I know the terrible anxiety of those moments when you realize your sweet dog is missing. Someday when the pain fades you and your son can joke about Teddy’s big adventure. That was the only image that helped me when I was scared to death that my Diggy had been hit by a car. Thankfully, she too came home.
On another note…the kitchen with the beams is my cuppa tea.
Happy Tuesday my friend,
Amy

Sorry that your Mother’s Day was so stressful! I remember losing our family when I was 12 and it was so terrible…but luckily ours ended in the same way, with our pooch safe at home! All of your photos are beautiful…I’m such any rooms with rustic wood and exposed beams make me weak in the knees!

OMG, To have to go through anything like this had to be the worst possible thing a parent could go through. I am so happy for you to have your happy ending, Thank God. I’m sorry I didn’t read my mail yesterday and missed this till this morning. I have a son, and a three year old grandson, I understand your distress……….

~Emily

I’m so happy that Teddy was able to come home to you – I can’t imagine what I would have done if Indy (the german shepherd) went missing. I’m sorry that it wasn’t a fun Mother’s Day for you (although it turned out well in the end).

Onto your pictures – I love the blue & white bedroom from Southern Accents – I would feel totally at home in there!

Hi Tina, I actually read this the other day and was not able to comment (good ole work)! So, I had to comment now…..first of all, I invisualized your son fighting his emotions. My heart went out to you, and him. I have been in this scenario many times with my own sons! In addition, I am thankful your day ended on a happy note! I was moved at the “coming together” in order to find a missing member of the family, especially on Mother’s day! And, last, your post touched the rustic side of me. I need a home for each of my decorating tastes.

A lost pet is wrenching! When we moved to a new home, our lab and beagle went missing on a Sunday morning. (Electric fences be damned!) A kind soul picked them up (probably on their way back to the old house!) and brought them safely home many hours later. Needless to say, I had the entire yard fenced within a week – didnt care what the cost was!
