Good morning….forewarning this is a long post, lots of writing, lots of pictures, lots of things I am loving this week, so sit down, relax, pour yourself another cup of coffee or wine.?Hope you are having a great week. With the weather finally calming down from temperatures I felt like I was melting in, things have gotten better and more tolerable. Something sad happened yesterday, I was out doing errands and the huge neon yellow “going out of business” signs draped over Borders caught my eye. I was due for a fresh supply of magazines so figured I would pop in. I walked into utter madness, people buzzing all over the place and I spied a line with at least two or three dozen impatient customers, not the usual “happy to be a chilling in a bookstore” customers I am used to seeing. I saw the tape sectioning off the now closed cafe/coffee shop while rejected books and magazines lay disheveled and all over the place. I looked at the store in this disarray, a place that had welcomed me many an afternoon or evening with open and cozy arms with its orderly shelves brimming with endless reading possibilities. It made me sad because I had a darn good relationship with Borders and it was often my sanctuary to where I escaped to my special place, to decompress, unwind and broaden my mind with?a cup of hot java in hand. I have so many great memories there and my first reaction?when I walked into all the activity was “this is what it used to be like during regular business hours” now its only this way because things are being sold for 40%.
?I felt a pang of nostalgia and true sadness at what this represents, things are changing so fast, moving in such a progressive lightning fast direction that I feel like the things that we relied upon to calm and slow us down are practically non existent! Tell me whats more relaxing than going into a book store, to me not much, except maybe being on a beach alone with an IV drip of Pina Coladas or Pinot Grigio and a juicy book, but not much else. Now I hear Barnes and Nobles is in trouble too. I for one, am not ready to surrender myself and give up the feel and smell of a brand new book to a techy gadget meant to replace buying books forever. Long live the book store!!!!!!!!?
I am sorry I got carried away in my venting but seriously this has/had me really bummed. So I mourn for yet another past favorite, first Southern Accents and now Borders. RIP, Borders. You will be sorely missed.This week I start with my usual updates. Things are really moving and shaking over at the house. I finally can envision living there which admittedly is a first. Exciting, overwhelming and loads of work, but it is a wonderful thing and its so fantastic to be in the home stretch! So here we go…..
HOUSE UPDATES. Lots going on even if it seems like its going slowly. The details can be a long drawn out process but rest assured, things are moving along quite swiftly. Painters are busy finishing first coat upstairs, carpet has been ordered, trim is getting downstairs, gutters are being put in, driveway being put in, electrical and plumbing doing their finishing touches, we will have AC within a few days..woo hoo! This is very important as the finisher?starts staining the breakfast room and for the kitchen cabinets…so plenty going on. The porch is done all except for one small section, its ready to stain the ceiling and have floors put in…so here is a recap on all that’s happened this week……..

MY NEW FAVORITE HAND SOAP. Best part is its 3.99 for a big bottle at Target! And they must get some kind of special discont because when I looked this up online, saw its selling for between $5-8 online. Actually the truly best part is this is darn good hand soap, it lathers nicely, smells wonderfully with a scent that lingers as much as a nice hand lotion and I am a sucker for anything that makes me feel nostalgic for something old fashioned looking!

CHIC SUMMER CLOTHING. I love tunics, light sundresses in fun prints for the summer, throw on a piece of turquoise or coral and you are good to go. Amongst many of the lines I like for summer, I discovered Gretchen Scott about five years ago and add to my collection every summer. The price point is fair, her things are all cotton, silk or linen and she features so many great tropical summery prints…love her eye. A GREAT BOOK. I am a bit behind in my summer reading, normally I get through five or six solid books, but this summer I have just completed a second. But it is one worth recommending…..Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese, is a riveting and spellbinding story. Its his first book and is highly acclaimed, already winning all kinds of awards. A TOTALLY RANDOM SITE. OK I know this venturing a bit off my normal “area of expertise” (whatever that may be)?but I found this and couldnt’ believe how cute and imaginative these were!! I mean seriously these are pancakes…as hard as that is to believe! And this Jim dude has an entire blog all about the incredible pancakes he turns into works of art…..I kid you not. Man, my kids would be pea green with envy over the kinds of breakfasts his kids are treated to every morning! The porch looks fabulous already. Love all the detail – the spindles, parquet floors, the wood panelling inside, kitchen detail – amazing! I have been to Versailles and this certainly captures those beautiful elements. Purchased the book but have not read it yet..
I am loving your house! So beautiful!! I would secretly have to walk around every now and then with a tiara on~this is major league Tina! How on earth you write such a detailed blog while managing this project is mind blowing, but speaks to your capacity for multi-tasking. I would be completely absorbed and maybe overwhelmed with decisions, and you seem to make them with ease. Of course you are very organized so that is helpful. I was showing hubs the belgian block driveway. I love that, and will there be asphalt or pavers or crushed stone for the drive? Such a fun journey to be on with you. There is absolutely nothing in the world that makes me happier than landing in the old second hand book stores in Cape Town for a lazy afternoon. In fact if they locked me in for the night I would be happy as anything. I agree. long live the book and the magazine. Can’t ever ever imagine a tehno devise in my hands>>ewww!
Love seeing all the new updates on the house. The view of the house as you come up the driveway is so perfect. Very well thought out. I am with you on the Borders closing thing. Hi, Tina, So sad about Borders and all book stores. No Kindle for me; I want to hold it, touch it, refer back to it; add it to my library. Hi Tina…Love the house update. Your hardware is fantastic! I too am greatly saddened by the demise of the bookstore. When we lost Joseph Beth in Charlotte, I felt like I lost a good friend. The manager of the local Barnes and Noble and I were talking and she predicted that we would not have bookstores as we know them in ten years. Wake up people! Put down your Kindles! Very sad indeed. Tina, watching your home’s progress is right at the top of my favorite HGTV and DIY design shows! Intense! Exciting! Also, I visited Gretchen Scott, and yes I have my eye a two dresses, eyelet and boho style (could work well Texas style too with a pair of western boots)! Love her designs too! Also, I have to agree with you in regards to the sadness of losing bookstores and books! We may have a generation to doesn’t understand the intense beauty and gift of a book! And, again, you’re right that the narrowing of calming passtimes is somewhat upon us. Lastly, the pancake creations are cute…but there’s nothing like a stack of plain ole round pancakes with butter and syrup! YUM! (By the way, in regards to my post yesterday, and your commment…….you could be my “sisterfromanothermother”! LOL! :))

I remember how fabulous it was when the first Borders opened here in London, it was the first bookstore where you could sit, have coffee and read….I loved it. And get American magazines, I was thrilled!!! It closed here last year.
I have “Cutting for Stone” to read this summer, am waiting until I am sitting on that French Riviera beach!!

The husband tried to buy me a kindle and no thank you I like holding a real book, he likes kindle and that is what’s closing all the store, I hate it. I’m pretty sad about what’s happening to the bookstores, too. I’ve regularly spent several hours at a time in our local bookstores reading & dining in the cafe (that serves great food btw). Technology is good, but I just don’t think anything will ever replace being able to hold in your hands & enjoy a good book or magazine. Your home is just too magnificent! I could seriously live on that porch (lol). How welcomimg it’s going to be approaching the home & seeing the grounds with the way you’ve laid out the driveway. The millwork, spindles, parquet flooring, doorknobs, etc…it’s all just right & simply wonderful!

we lost our Borders too, but I have to remember that when they first came in they nearly drove our locally owned bookstore out of business..but the local one managed to adapt and change and hung on so now they are back to being the only game in town because Borders is out..I went to both places frequently as I saw a need for both and will surely miss Borders…how very sad.. but your house Tina, is looking fabulous…I had to laugh at the mock up spindles as they are so not what the real ones will look like but are a good way to see what they will when they are installed for real..the porch is fabulous..as are the parquet floors… it’s all looking quite beautiful.. best, maureen

The thought of bookstores closing makes me want to cry. For four years, Barnes and Noble was my escape at school. When things got crazy, I would race to B&N and curl up with a good book for hours. I have a love-hate relationship with new technology that makes things like bookstores obsolete.
Wow, what progress on the home, Tina! I have a feeling that porch will be one of your very favorite spots in the whole house. I also think the hubby did a good job picking the doorknobs, hehe!

I’m with you about books, it’s not the same reading on an electronic device (except for blogs, of course!). Guess we’ll be considered old fashioned soon…but that’s okay by me. Just finished reading “The Help”, it was excellent, the movie is coming out in August.
Love those pancakes, the most sophisticated pancakes I can achieve are 3 blobs to make a very uneven Mickey Mouse head, but oh well, the kids were very forgiving when they were little and loved them anyhoo!
I too am sad that our Borders is closing and Barnes and Noble is next on the chopping block. My husband and I would spend hours there several times a month all year long. Borders is a special place to me in more ways that one.

So now for my comments on house updates: Living rm Versailles parquet floors ~ Stunning Trim work works it lovely magic in the details Panels throughout the house are spectacular Kitchen beams ~~~ only a true visitonary such as you could relly “see” how this was going to look…great change Tina!
Details in the kitchen cabinety are exceptional and the mudroom is special and much needed since you experience such serve weather at times w/snow.
Carpets ~ great choices of warm colors. Bathrooms: The array of different vanities, tiles, tile designs is really pleasing to the eye with a different look in each bathroom yet similar colors ~ perfect.
Covered Patio: I can “see” the great activities happening in this space already and a great place for your to write a book on party planning from the heart.
The last photo of the drive round the bend is a story onto itself called ” The adventures at The Enchanted Home with Tina” just speaks volumes to me.
Soap…great I’ll have to check them out starting my Christmas list already and this appears to be the perfect choice for the holidays.
Letterpress ~ love, love, love letterpress it leasve such a wonderful impression.
Tunics, sundresses, summer wear some of my favorites to sew, alter it’s look with beading or rhinestones, and restyle a item or two. They make wearing them feel so special and worthy of special events.
Pancakes ~ nothing like creativity for get children to eat (I do this with my newphew and niece). Personally, I love pancakes plain always have, just warm, rolled up, no butter, no syrup just the goodness of the pure pancake yummy…it just feels like love.

or wine.?Hope you are having a great week. With the weather finally calming down from temperatures I felt like I was melting in, things have gotten better and more tolerable. Something sad happened yesterday, I was out doing errands and the huge neon yellow “going out of business” signs draped over Borders caught my eye. I was due for a fresh supply of magazines so figured I would pop in. I walked into utter madness, people buzzing all over the place and I spied a line with at least two or three dozen impatient customers, not the usual “happy to be a chilling in a bookstore” customers I am used to seeing. I saw the tape sectioning off the now closed cafe/coffee shop while rejected books and magazines lay disheveled and all over the place. I looked at the store in this disarray, a place that had welcomed me many an afternoon or evening with open and cozy arms with its orderly shelves brimming with endless reading possibilities. It made me sad because I had a darn good relationship with Borders and it was often my sanctuary to where I escaped to my special place, to decompress, unwind and broaden my mind with?a cup of hot java in hand. I have so many great memories there and my first reaction?when I walked into all the activity was “this is what it used to be like during regular business hours” now its only this way because things are being sold for 40%.anything. I was thinking recently how I will of course, want to send out moving cards and found this wonderful line from Duet which features letter pressed stationary..and its all drool worthy gorgeous! A GREAT BOOK. I am a bit behind in my summer reading, normally I get through five or six solid books, but this summer I have just completed a second. But it is one worth recommending…..Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese, is a riveting and spellbinding story. Its his first book and is highly acclaimed, already winning all kinds of awards. The porch looks fabulous already. Love all the detail – the spindles, parquet floors, the wood panelling inside, kitchen detail – amazing! I have been to Versailles and this certainly captures those beautiful elements. Purchased the book but have not read it yet..

I am loving your house! So beautiful!! I would secretly have to walk around every now and then with a tiara on~this is major league Tina! How on earth you write such a detailed blog while managing this project is mind blowing, but speaks to your capacity for multi-tasking. I would be completely absorbed and maybe overwhelmed with decisions, and you seem to make them with ease. Of course you are very organized so that is helpful. I was showing hubs the belgian block driveway. I love that, and will there be asphalt or pavers or crushed stone for the drive? Such a fun journey to be on with you.

Love seeing all the new updates on the house. The view of the house as you come up the driveway is so perfect. Very well thought out. I am with you on the Borders closing thing. Our local store closed this past March and it was so sad and hard to see. I went in to get magazines also but they were ALL gone.

Hi Tina…Love the house update. Your hardware is fantastic! I too am greatly saddened by the demise of the bookstore. When we lost Joseph Beth in Charlotte, I felt like I lost a good friend. The manager of the local Barnes and Noble and I were talking and she predicted that we would not have bookstores as we know them in ten years. Wake up people! Put down your Kindles! Very sad indeed.

Tina, watching your home’s progress is right at the top of my favorite HGTV and DIY design shows! Intense! Exciting! Also, I visited Gretchen Scott, and yes I have my eye a two dresses, eyelet and boho style (could work well Texas style too with a pair of western boots)! Love her designs too! Also, I have to agree with you in regards to the sadness of losing bookstores and books! We may have a generation to doesn’t understand the intense beauty and gift of a book! And, again, you’re right that the narrowing of calming passtimes is somewhat upon us. Lastly, the pancake creations are cute…but there’s nothing like a stack of plain ole round pancakes with butter and syrup! YUM! I remember how fabulous it was when the first Borders opened here in London, it was the first bookstore where you could sit, have coffee and read….I loved it. And get American magazines, I was thrilled!!! It closed here last year.

I’m pretty sad about what’s happening to the bookstores, too. I’ve regularly spent several hours at a time in our local bookstores reading & dining in the cafe (that serves great food btw). Technology is good, but I just don’t think anything will ever replace being able to hold in your hands & enjoy a good book or magazine.
Your home is just too magnificent! I could seriously live on that porch (lol). How welcomimg it’s going to be approaching the home & seeing the grounds with the way you’ve laid out the driveway. The millwork, spindles, parquet flooring, doorknobs, etc…it’s all just right & simply wonderful!

we lost our Borders too, but I have to remember that when they first came in they nearly drove our locally owned bookstore out of business..but the local one managed to adapt and change and hung on so now they are back to being the only game in town because Borders is out..I went to both places frequently as I saw a need for both and will surely miss Borders…how very sad..
but your house Tina, is looking fabulous…I had to laugh at the mock up spindles as they are so not what the real ones will look like but are a good way to see what they will when they are installed for real..the porch is fabulous..as are the parquet floors…

The thought of bookstores closing makes me want to cry. For four years, Barnes and Noble was my escape at school. When things got crazy, I would race to B&N and curl up with a good book for hours. I have a love-hate relationship with new technology that makes things like bookstores obsolete.
Wow, what progress on the home, Tina! I have a feeling that porch will be one of your very favorite spots in the whole house. I also think the hubby did a good job picking the doorknobs, hehe!

I’m with you about books, it’s not the same reading on an electronic device (except for blogs, of course!). Guess we’ll be considered old fashioned soon…but that’s okay by me. Just finished reading “The Help”, it was excellent, the movie is coming out in August.
Love those pancakes, the most sophisticated pancakes I can achieve are 3 blobs to make a very uneven Mickey Mouse head, but oh well, the kids were very forgiving when they were little and loved them anyhoo!

I too am sad that our Borders is closing and Barnes and Noble is next on the chopping block. My husband and I would spend hours there several times a month all year long. Borders is a special place to me in more ways that one.

Living rm Versailles parquet floors ~ Stunning
Trim work works it lovely magic in the details
Panels throughout the house are spectacular
Kitchen beams ~~~ only a true visitonary such as you could relly “see” how this was going to look…great change Tina!
Details in the kitchen cabinety are exceptional and the mudroom is special and much needed since you experience such serve weather at times w/snow.
Carpets ~ great choices of warm colors. Bathrooms: The array of different vanities, tiles, tile designs is really pleasing to the eye with a different look in each bathroom yet similar colors ~ perfect.
Covered Patio: I can “see” the great activities happening in this space already and a great place for your to write a book on party planning from the heart.
The last photo of the drive round the bend is a story onto itself called ” The adventures at The Enchanted Home with Tina” just speaks volumes to me.
Soap…great I’ll have to check them out starting my Christmas list already and this appears to be the perfect choice for the holidays.
Letterpress ~ love, love, love letterpress it leasve such a wonderful impression.
Tunics, sundresses, summer wear some of my favorites to sew, alter it’s look with beading or rhinestones, and restyle a item or two. They make wearing them feel so special and worthy of special events.
Pancakes ~ nothing like creativity for get children to eat (I do this with my newphew and niece). Personally, I love pancakes plain always have, just warm, rolled up, no butter, no syrup just the goodness of the pure pancake yummy…it just feels like love.
