Good morning, enjoying my second full day back in blogland.This will not be as lengthy as my usual Thursday post. Lets face it this has hardly been a conventional week! For one, we have been without power and generator at new house, so though they have been working, its been limited but despite the weather hiccups, they have made quiet a bit of progress so I am excited. Didn’t go out and about and explore too much this week for obvious reasons but am sharing what I am loving and of course some house updates. Many have asked when we are going to move in. We hope to move in later September (my optimistic reply) to late October/early Nov. (husbands overly cautious and conservative reply). So figure somewhere in that window! Hope you are dong great and for anyone who was in Irene’s path, so hope that you have since been blessed with restored power (if you lost it to begin with) and that you are getting back to a sense of normalcy. So here we go,…….
HOUSE UPDATES. Things continue despite Irene’s disruption, to hum along. It is soo true that the finishing stage is though the most fun, the most drawn out. No doubt, I can see we are going to be “finishing” this house for some time now, its all the little things that really take time. But the painting is moving right along, moldings on first floor getting done, kitchen is getting there though it may not look like much progress is being made, they are there every day and it will be a full 2 month installation process when all said and done. Its taken 2 days just to install all the little magnets on the doors, but its the kind of progress you really don’t see. Patio foundation was laid…that was pretty exciting:) Enough talking, here’s the low down…..

WEDDING CAKES AND AMAZING COOKIES. This is totally random, yes I know. It also has nothing whatsoever to do with design, decor or any of the above but I will confess I have an obsession with gorgeous over the top wedding cakes and flowers. I often gravitate towards many of the wedding books in bookstores, so I can pour over pictures of the flowers and wedding cakes only to have a salesperson greet me excitedly “Oh, you must be planning a wedding”! In my next life I must become a wedding planner extraordinaire because I seriously love looking and dreaming and creating them (in my mind of course) I have been a long time fan of Sylvia Weinstock, wedding cake maestro. But in addition to her out of this world creations I found a few other amazing goodies worth sharing….I know this is totally random but they are just too beautiful to not share!!
How amazing are these Wedgwood blue cookies? Makes me want to have a party in their honor!
A FUN ANTIQUE STORE. One thing I love to do and rarely get to do anymore is visit antique stores..you just never know what you will find. The thrill is in the chase! Well, there is a place not far from me that can get some great things, they are only open 3 days a week and I hadn’t been in years, so about a week ago…I jumped in my car and headed over one Saturday morning. I did score a beautiful collection of 12 dessert plates and bowls by Noritake, I love mixing and matching pieces and these would look stunning with my gold rimmed Limoges dinner service. On top of that she had some other really interesting tidbits, and some real steals. Above all else it was just so much fun being there and not knowing what I might discover! Here are a few highlights……

How pretty are these older French bistro chairs? 4 for $125! (and that without negotiating)
Wish I had a place to use four!!
This was huge…almost 4 feet tall, needs some work but its so pretty for a loggia or porch!
These were interesting metal screens, could be gorgeous for a doorway, a closet door or a table top with glass and a base
This place consists of 3 separate buildings, here is the main building which houses all the smaller items, china and crystal

BISCOTTI Do you like it? Well, I have turned my husband unknowingly into a biscotti addict/connoisseur. Now he has to have his little fix every night! In our days of darkness (and boredom) we got to try several brands, and one which I must say is really really good is Bastoncini. It taste comparable to those that good Italian restaurants give out at the end of a meal. Its quite good, so if you are in need of a little sweet something and like biscotti too, you may want to give this a whirl! (Best part these are the minis, which translates to less guilt)
Well, folks that’s about it for me this week. Its been a pretty uneventful week in terms of discovering anything too terribly exciting! I know wedding cakes and biscotti are not too thrilling but compared to the week we had, they are! Would love to know if there is anything you are loving this week! Love drooling over your incredible home. The kitchen is TO DIE FOR! Love how its coming out, cannot wait till you get the marble and hardware and reveal those floors! All the moldings are beautiful, love the closet color, what is it? I would love to paint my bedroom, now you have my brain thinking a mile a minute!! Great updates.

I was a wedding planner, and trust me, you it is really not that much fun. Brides are tricky ladies! I even turned a little “Bridezilla” on my wedding day! It just happens 🙂 Stick with the books…

I too have an obsession with all things wedding, and I’ve been married for 24 years! I bought Martha Stewart’s first wedding book back in the day and even then her cakes were over the top. I love to look at wedding flowers too and once dreamed of being a florist just so I could design and make wedding bouquets!
I SO wish I could visit that antiques store with you! I would have happily taken home those chairs and found a home for them – maybe even just scattered throughout the house…and thos metal screens! Like you say, the thrill of not knowing is half the fun. I will be at flea markets Saturday and Sunday this weekend – it will be a good time no matter what I find! 🙂 Have a great weekend…Barbara

You are probably at that “the devil is in the details” phase, all the little things that need to be decided, followed through, it has to be very stressful. Isn’t it amazing that the limestone hood adds so much to the kitchen?! Wow! Your husband’s bath is looking wonderful, the moldings in the hallway really add some oomph, I like them a lot. And seeing the patio poured, what a big step!
I share the love of cakes, especially wedding cakes, and have a Pinterest board dedicated to what I call Cakewalk.
Simply stunning kitchen! Elegant, but functional. And, just the look I’d like to achieve in my grande cusine once renovations start in October(praying)for that part of the house. I’ve downloaded all the pix to show the builders. Guessing they are going to blanche severely when they see all the detail! LOL!

Tina – love, love, love, your kitchen, the moldings, the windows, the doorways etc etc… love those wedding books too – I have quite a collection too – have lent them out many times after our daughter and then our son were married!! I still love looking at them!
I always try to narrow down my choice of favorite things when I see your update posts, but it’s impossible, everything is amazing. The amount of detail is just gorgeous.

I’m so glad this week is over as well. We finally got power (and water) back late last night and I finally got internet access today – YAY!! So now a generator is high on my priority list!! We had one at our last house and it makes such a difference!! Looks like you’re moving right along. I really do believe it will be an early November move-in. I know that is not what you want to hear, however that is what I see. Unless you move in prior to the completion…that would make me a nervous wreck. My sister’s home was still being worked on 6 months after she moved it…NOT good.
I work for a developer in Houston and we built upper end homes until 2000. When you are dealing with a custom home, 1 1/2 to 2 years I would say, anyway.
Even with my little home. It was supposed to be complete by August 31, then September 15, now September 21. When something isn’t done properly, I want it redone.
I am just happy that you, your family and home were safe.
The antique store is like candy to a child…Wonderful things there….
Lastly, Biscotti. I went through a phase of having one each night with a cup of coffee.
Oh i just arrived to your building party, this is amazing, i love your grand style & huge dreams. We’re building soon but keeping it one level & for me, it’s all about the bath, for my husband, it’s all about the kitchen & for our 4 children it’s all about their bedrooms & external doors to sneak out to the farm animals, i can not wait. About that 1st cake. I wish to pick off the flowers one by one, slowly, ALONE (aka no sharing) & eat them reading a book…. curled in blanket in front of a fire. Your downstairs hallway looks so stately with the arches and mouldings. Your kitchen and the exterior facade are magnificent! I really like the 1st and 3rd cakes a lot, and the Wedgwood cookies are just too cute. Wish I had a place to use the French bistro chairs. I like finding new sources for antiques. And, I like my shops chocked full. The more cramped and full, the better. It makes the hunt just that much more fun, like I found a “sleeper” or unexpected treasure. Your dishes are really pretty. Your kitchen is just one big WOW – and that range, there are no words! Martha does the best wedding cakes in my book, and love those fretwork timber panels, could do lots with those.
The attention to detail blows my mind. The kitchen looks like the ultimate dream kitchen on steroids, I could literally live just in the kitchen and be happy, also in awe over all the woodwork, just amazing in every way. Love Biscotti and in fact make it homemade every Christmas, and give away as small gifts for the holidays ( my grandmas recipe) and its really really good!

House is looking great! Would like to know the paint colour you have chosen for your kitchen (??) I also found a beautiful platter at an antique store similar to the china that you purchased. In the future, could you please post paint colours..I know we all would appreciate that so much! cheers.
Tina – love, love, love, your kitchen, the moldings, the windows, the doorways etc etc… love those wedding books too – I have quite a collection too – have lent them out many times after our daughter and then our son were married!! I still love looking at them!

I’m so glad this week is over as well. We finally got power (and water) back late last night and I finally got internet access today – YAY!! So now a generator is high on my priority list!! We had one at our last house and it makes such a difference!! Looks like you’re moving right along. I believe this is the most grand home I have seen. I know I keep dwelling on the kitchen, however it is so breathtaking. So well planned. I think I should win the prize for the tiniest kitchen ever and you should win for the largest.

I really do believe it will be an early November move-in. I know that is not what you want to hear, however that is what I see. Unless you move in prior to the completion…that would make me a nervous wreck. My sister’s home was still being worked on 6 months after she moved it…NOT good.
I work for a developer in Houston and we built upper end homes until 2000. When you are dealing with a custom home, 1 1/2 to 2 years I would say, anyway.
Even with my little home. It was supposed to be complete by August 31, then September 15, now September 21. When something isn’t done properly, I want it redone.
I am just happy that you, your family and home were safe.
The antique store is like candy to a child…Wonderful things there….
Lastly, Biscotti. I went through a phase of having one each night with a cup of coffee.

First I am over whelmed at the amount of time you have spent on your new home. NOW that everything is really, truly & finally coming together, the thought & care (and TIME of all) is so visible. I love it, limestone is owning my heart thanks to you! Silvery/gray/blue is my ALL time fav. color for dresses NOW I *~D.E.S.I.R.E.*~ silvery/gray/blue, EVERYTHING (better watch myself:)! About that 1st cake. I wish to pick off the flowers one by one, slowly, ALONE (aka no sharing) & eat them reading a book…. curled in blanket in front of a fire. Desiring colors, cakes, limestone & the likes. How deliciously DECADENT! …… YUMMY!

Your downstairs hallway looks so stately with the arches and mouldings. Your kitchen and the exterior facade are magnificent! I really like the 1st and 3rd cakes a lot, and the Wedgwood cookies are just too cute. Wish I had a place to use the French bistro chairs. I like finding new sources for antiques. And, I like my shops chocked full. The more cramped and full, the better. It makes the hunt just that much more fun, like I found a “sleeper” or unexpected treasure. Your dishes are really pretty. I’m excited for you to start decorating. Will you be able to use much from your previous home?

Your kitchen is just one big WOW – and that range, there are no words! Martha does the best wedding cakes in my book, and love those fretwork timber panels, could do lots with those.
The attention to detail blows my mind. The kitchen looks like the ultimate dream kitchen on steroids, I could literally live just in the kitchen and be happy, also in awe over all the woodwork, just amazing in every way.
Love Biscotti and in fact make it homemade every Christmas, and give away as small gifts for the holidays ( my grandmas recipe) and its really really good!
