Mid week musings and a giveaway!!

Hi looks like this mid week musings thing is now a regular gig, so why not…a great way for me to talk about a whole bunch of randomness. Hope you are having a great week…mine is good, busy and productive. I cannot say summer has been super relaxing so far but I have managed to squeeze in some down time and the little I have had has been wonderful! I am also offering a wonderful giveaway….all details on bottom of this post.

I am actually headed to New Orleans on Friday morning and cannot wait. Its been a few years since I have been there  and I cannot wait to hit the antique shops on Royal st., indulge in french pressed coffee and a piping hot sugar laced Beignet and go to some of the wonderful restaurants we had the pleasure of visiting last time. This is absolutely NO time for a diet…..the food in New Orleans is off the hook amazing! Any suggestions are more than welcome!

For anyone else who has “a thing” for New Orleans….this book is one of my favorites. Got it about a year ago and it just captures that New Orleans essence to a tee, a really wonderful book!
Many of you are so kind to ask about sweet Teddy, he is doing well…..hair 90% grown back so its good to see him whole again. Heres a few pics of him doing what he does best……yep, relaxing!

Does he think he is CZ Guest here or what?

I like to share the results of my weekly Which would you choose and thought it would be fun to see which girls bedrooms took the top prize from last week, so here they are in order of their votes!

1st place (and my personal favorite)!

A close 2nd place
Tied for 3rd place

Several of the others vied for 4th place…what can I say, my readers, you have excellent taste!

Finally ordered the wallpaper for the back powder room (this is off the kitchen and the bathroom we use on a daily basis). I decided it was one of the first I loved and often times we go back to the original choices…..this was the perfect blend of something elegant but not too formal, fresh and crisp. I really like it and it gives off the exact vibe I am looking for……will finalize the check I will do the window treatments in and likely have some cute little fabric shades made for the sconces too…….

I also like covering shades with fabric for a custom touch…experimented here, me likey!

I really like Anthropologie and think they are one of the stores that are getting better and better. I recently ordered a bunch of these exquisite glasses…love love them! I am a sucker for anything etched and these look really old and are just beautiful! I cannot wait to use them….what do you think? I have found so many unique and beautiful things there…….

Can you believe I am STILL waiting (only six months and counting) on the Thomas O Brien rock crystal sconces? Crazy! But I have looked and looked for a suitable replacement to no avail….so wait I will. Every time I look at them, I realize they are perfect and I can envision them in my room so hopefully the newest delivery date of August is finally the date that I can see these babies and get them up and get this bathroom done!!!! Once they are up above the tub and at my vanity…I just need my chandelier, a chair and I am set…woo hoo!!!!

Here they are…..by Thomas O Brien
They will go above the tub and on either side of the mirror (single ones) on the vanity….

And on either side of the mirror
And very excited finally got these gorgeous Ralph Lauren sconces ordered for the living room….cannot wait to get them! They are really beautiful, leave it up to Ralph!
They will go on this wall (one either side of botanicals) as well as between all the French doors in the living room.

Moving on…..I love costume jewelry, well I love all kinds of jewelry but being paranoid about losing (lets just say I have done my share) I don’t  wear “the good stuff’ unless I am going to a wedding or special event and it is all locked up in a safe spot. But I love fun costume and have quite a bit, just ordered some jewelry drawer boxers/liners and cannot wait to start organizing, but in the meantime how cute is this? Its a dress form with hooks for jewelry its finished in a muslin fabric and has French writing. Believe it or not found it at Michaels for $14.99!! I love it and think it adds such a sweet whimsical touch to my closet.

Store biz……I am not going to be adding anything over the summer. While business is going wonderfully I am hoping to take a little time to enjoy summer as it goes by so fast. I have a few brackets left and this is it as well as a few other items I am just about sold out of. I am planning to revamp things come fall, phasing a few things out and adding some exciting new things, so stay tuned and thanks for your continued support and enthusiasm!

I have one of the black and gold brackets on the right and one pair of the antique white painted brackets. I am selling the one black and gold for $45.00 and the pair of large ant.white for $100. This is the very last of my brackets and these prices are far far below retail. Email me if you wan them.

Designer Spotlight: Linda Floyd Interiors

Hi there! I am always very excited to discover a new designer, particularly when its work and a style that resonates with my own. Well I found that and then some in the wonderful work of the very talented Linda Floyd. So,  you can imagine my sheer delight when I realized that she is also incidentally one of my readers and I got an email from her……talk about flattering and a small world!! I told her how I thought very highly of her work and we emailed each other about my possibly featuring her in one of my Designer Spotlight posts…so I am thrilled to present the work of Linda Floyd interiors. Clearly a super talented designer, Linda is based out of  gorgeous Carmel/Pebble Beach and San Francisco Pebble Beach, California (I am jealous already) .

I love her aesthetic which she obviously stays true to  and of course am totally in awe of her penchant for the most gorgeous details! We all know the devils are in the details and always worth the extra labor of love. Linda also shared with me a little on her background, her design philosophy and what she believes in when it comes to creating wonderful interior spaces. I am not surprised that she has had a lot of her work published and her love and inspiration of 18th and 19th century France is evident in all she does. Thank you Linda and to all my readers, you are in for a royall treat today!! Here we go…….feast your eyes on Linda’s fabulous body of work!

A little history?
I was Inspired by art history, and after receiving a degree in Interior Design, I traveled to  Europe several times studying the architecture, the furniture styles, the historical character and ambiance of the different regions (and of course, the food!).   I became a partner in a French Antiques and Interior Design Studio in Los Gatos, California
(1 hour south of San Francisco) which included many buying trips to France, and the rest is history!  These trips were the foundation of my design career and gave me a classic approach to design and confirmed my use of old world materials and craftsmanship.  I no longer have the store front and having only the interior design firm allows much more time for my clients.
How I work?
For me, each project is like a book and each room or space, a chapter.  After hearing the client characterize her dreams and design goals, I envision a narrative or script in my mind and the production begins.  While there are always edits and changes, the storyline is usually consistent with the original script.  The finished projects are full of color, antiques, European history and vitality.  The goal is to make projects a timeless mix of panache and quiet sophistication where elegance mingles with ease and creates inviting, inspiring and very, very livable rooms.
And although my firm focuses primarily on classical design with a European influence, we recently completed a contemporary high rise in Las Vegas and a very contemporary recording studio in the home of a key client who loves all things French?her son is a musician and wanted contemporary!!
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is exposing clients to the wonderful things available to them for their projects.  I have taken clients on buying trips to London, Paris, New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles, as well as the local showrooms in San Francisco.  It is so exciting to see the sparkle in a client?s eye when we find the ?perfect? piece!  Somehow, Tina, I think you know that feeling!
In all the pictures you see, my firm has designed the architectural interiors, the construction detailing and custom woodworking, etc., as well as what I call the ?Fluff?, the interior design.  I feel our custom woodworking and interior architectural detailing create ?visible excellence? the moment you walk into a room and are the perfect backdrop for the interior design portion of the project.  We assist the client by consulting with the landscape architects and we provide landscape ornamentation…antique garden sculpture is a favorite of mine!

I have had the good fortune to work repeatedly for clients, completing 2, 3, even 4 projects for some of them.  I have the pleasure of working throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Carmel, Pebble Beach, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, McCall, Idaho, Cherry Creek, Denver, and Hawaii.

What more can I say? I love my job!!!

Wow…is her work droolworthy or what? I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite room…there are so many beauties. I LOVE and adore her style, her eye for details and her use of rich old world colors mixed with today’s practicality. Linda is a master of “fluff” as she puts it! If you would like to see more of her work or contact here, her website is-
Thank you Linda for allowing me to showcase your spectacular work and to all my readers for stopping in. Could you possibly pick a favorite room? Would love to know which if so! Wishing everyone a wonderful Thursday.

Which would you choose?

Happy Monday morning to you! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. We were in Pennsylvania, in the Main line area and I have to say, really wish I had brought my camera along for the trip……absolutely gorgeous area filled with all kinds of fabulous homes, old and traditional, very pristine and old world feeling, some parts felt just like being in the English or Swiss Countryside, we were in Wayne/Valley Forge to be specific and it is so charming and lovely. Plus they have an absolutely idyllic little town to boot…..Next time!

Moving on to today’s post…since we covered boys rooms last week its only fitting we follow up with a wonderful assortment of girls rooms this week. Now being the mother of 3 boys (which I wouldn’t change for all the chocolate in the world) I have admittedly daydreamed about how I might want to decorate my daughters room (if I had one) and though more than a few rooms really make me happy, there are two rooms here that is particularly perfect to me. So…you know the routine, scroll through, take your time and tell me if you had a daughter and I know many of you do, which would you choose? I look forward to hearing which comes out on top!  I will share the results of last weeks boy choices in my mid week musings post later in the week. Hopefully I offered a fair representation of a little of everything. Enjoy!

Mid week musings…….

Hi, hope your week is going well. I was at the beach for a few days to visit a friend and it was a nice getaway, unexpected, which are often the best kind! The weather was a “10” but today, we are in the throes of a serious heat wave…..about 100 degrees as a heat index and high humidity, only good news is its supposed to break late Friday. I tend to wilt in this kind of weather.
I mean I love summer, don’ t get me wrong but I love 75 -80 degrees, zero humidity, slight breeze in the air topped with a perfect sunset….now that’s my kind of summer weather! A few things to cover today…first I know everyone loves to know which rooms take the top prizes for my weekly Which would you choose. So here’s the top four from last weeks, featuring an assortment of gorgeous powder rooms. Happy that my personal faves made it to the top spots! I will show results for this weeks Which would you choose next week……

                                                         1st place with 25 votes

2nd place with 20 votes
3rd place with 16 votes
And tied for 4th place with 14 votes each
I have spoken often about all the perks and wonderful gifts that blogging has brought me, many friendships, knowledge on things that even a top school couldn’t possibly provide….really an entire world of possibilities. Its quite a phenomenon when you think about the connections you make on a daily basis with people all around the world that you would otherwise never meet. After the “Teddy ordeal’ the outpouring of support from my readers and fellow bloggers was truly just beyond, beyond what any words can fully describe.
So, I nearly fell off my chair when one of my readers contacted me, who happens to be a painter and wanted to paint Teddy’s portrait. She was so touched by what he had gone through and felt inspired to paint him. I was touched far beyond what I can convey on this blog and eagerly awaited the Teddy portrait to arrive. What I guess i wasn’t anticipating was what a magnificent work of art I would be receiving. I was floored when I opened the most exquisite dog painting ever! And to boot, it was like I was looking at Teddy in his sweet little eyes, her ability to capture his face, his gentle and curious eyes and funny little expression is not something just any artist could do. So with her permission I am sharing with you this beautiful and treasured work of art as well as the heartfelt letter that accompanied it and you know it brought  tears to my eyes! Best part of this for you, all you pet lovers out there, is that Mary paints on commission! And at night…..

While out in the Hamptons I snapped a few pictures (though few is a relative word..lol)  that I think speak so well as to what the Hamptons is all about, or at least what I personally love about the Hampton’s. Can there ever be too many hydrangeas? I don’t think so! So here’s a few pics from my little excursion, I always am sure to have my camera close by as there are always so many fabulous “photo ops”!
I always get carried away when taking pictures of beautiful hydrangeas…how stunning are these!

For about two hours, I experienced true perfection. Ever had a moment in life where you felt like it was “as good as it gets”? Well, this was Nirvana! I walked down the path and for what seemed like miles, I only saw one or two people in sight, just the glistening sea, acres of white sand and me and my chair! The perk was my phone doesn’t get reception so no distractions!! It was hot but I was so blessed because on this day, it felt like there was a 50 foot fan blowing and it was really breezy so I had the heat from the sun and a cold breeze on the other side of me……bliss I am telling you!

One man fishing…….
See that house? That’s “bad boy Madoffs” old house, new owners have it now and have totally renovated it. Don’t know if I could live in a house that belonged to such an evil man!
My little beach chair waiting for me…….

And theres my son and his friend off for a jog, yes, I should have joined them but I was just way too relaxed with my magazines and my chair…..

Ahhhhh….just looking at these pictures makes me feel relaxed all over again. I am my happiest by the beach, this could be because I spent a lot of my childhood in California and Hawaii so I am a “beach girl” at heart. It is always where I feel my most relaxed, happiest and at peace. How about you? Does the beach seduce you too?
So that’s about it for today…….off to Philadelphia tomorrow for the weekend. So this is it until later Sunday or Monday as I will have limited access to my computer. Wishing you a wonderful weekend! And thank you Mary Casey again!!!!!!!

?I mean I love summer, don’ t get me wrong but I love 75 -80 degrees, zero humidity, slight breeze in the air topped with a perfect sunset….now that’s my kind of summer weather!

After the “Teddy ordeal’ the outpouring of support from my readers and fellow bloggers was truly just beyond, beyond what any words can fully describe.?
So with her permission I am sharing with you this beautiful and treasured work of art as well as the heartfelt letter that accompanied it and you know it brought ?tears to my eyes! A living room is born…….

Hi there, you might be really surprised when you see this long post, and frankly no one was as surprised as I was! So here’s the deal, we (my husband and his brother)  were given the opportunity to purchase a large container of furniture, but had to buy it “all or nothing” and as it came. It was mostly from Kindel, and to anyone who knows furniture, you will recognize them as being a definite Rolls Royce in the furniture biz. My husbands brother is actually the one who was most interested as he is moving into his newly renovated house in about a month, and doesn’t want to wait the typical 3 to 4 months for custom furniture on order. So…..while he finished his renovation,  we happily  put most of it in our living room and we are dividing up the pieces. He is keeping most of the upholstered pieces so in the meantime, we  are “housing” most of the furniture for him until he is done with his own renovation project.

This was a total win/win for both of us. It allowed us to place the furniture exactly as we have it laid out to see if the layout does indeed work as we were hoping and sure enough it does! While the pieces are not all the exact size/shape of what we are ordering it really gives life to the room and certainly allows the room to take on a whole new perspective. We added our own pieces from the old house, some of which were in storage like coffee tables, end tables, some art,etc…..and of course my blue and white and for a temporary setup I must say it came out quite beautiful, if I say so myself. You really forget just how much a room can transform with furniture and all the bells and whistles. This is far from a done room, but it gives you an idea.  Naturally I just have to share this with you because we all love a good transformation. Lots of pictures, many might even appear to be the same thing and I took some of these at different times of the day.   So here we go…..enough of my talking!

I took a lot of pictures at different times of day and using a few different settings on my camera, the first “batch” used the active-D switch and I think I like it a lot for during the day shots, it gives a really crisp clarity to the shots……..and theres A LOT of pictures here! (you know I get carried away).

Finally got to hang a few of the brackets I so love (kind of makes me wish I was selling them again…am a BIG fan of brackets)!

Took the pillows from my window seat just to see how pillows would look, will not be here permanently but they certainly work temporarily!

Coffee table, all tables, and the antique botanicals are ours

So excited got to hang my brackets!!

These are gorgeous antique botanicals bought at an auction about 5 years ago..definite keepers!

Love the later afternoon sun………..

And at night……..

This batch was taken last night with a few small things added…..

The ship painting my husband just put there..its going in our library. The mantle is from the original house and we just have it propped there because its a heck of a lot better than looking at a blank wall! We are still figuring out the mantles for living/dining.

Well…….looks a whole lot different than that big empty room huh? I really love how warm and inviting it feels now….I have to say I keep finding excuses to go in there and just sit and stare! Its so exciting to have furniture in there. In about a month or two, it will be going to his living room but its nice to have a somewhat finished space even if temporarily and it is especially great getting to do a “trial run” of this layout and getting total certainty that the layout works. Now we are totally confident about moving forward. All of our tables, chests and coffee tables we will use with the new furniture and of course the rug is staying too. Will keep you in the loop as our final living room comes together in the coming months but thought I would share this fun “project” with you! Wishing you a great day and thanks for stopping in!
