Late week random musings…..

Hi there and Happy Friday. Another week gone by…….wow they are going fast! Even though I think some of these random posts might be short, they inevitably end up being rather chock full as I keep on adding to them and by weeks end…I have one heck of a long post, but its normally up through the weekend, so its a few days worth:)
I am still recuperating from my party last weekend, did very much enjoy the leftovers and had a few friends stop over to help me polish them off (cannot stand seeing waste)! I love how the “after effects” of a great party linger well into the week after………….
See exhibit A.

A plate full left of the fabulous French pastries……yum!
And exhibit B.

All the pretty flowers I received still going strong and condensing  some arrangements to maximize their staying power.

Other than that, trying to get going on more projects in my house, doing two E-design jobs, and that along with all my other non blogging commitments has me really busy….as in wishing there were more than 24 hours in the day kind of busy!
So let’s begin shall we with all the randomness that has come to make up these random musing posts…..
For those who have not seen, may I present my completed formal powder room……..

And the back powder room is pretty much done as well…………..

I went to for a lovely breakfast/brunch the other day to a friends house, who had some pretty fall decor out on display, here’s a peek….

Love these mugs! I have to find them……

Love seeing autumn branches as she displayed them here……
How cute is this picture? My friend sent it to me of her pooch celebrating his birthday, too adorable to not share!
We have some new lighting going up around here…FINALLY! My bathroom the sconces I was waiting on for about 8 months finally showed up and are being put up in the next few days. You might have seen my new dining room chandelier which I am loving as well as the absolutely gorgeous crystal sconces for the living room…..super happy with the lighting so far!!

Stunning new sconces for the living room

Close up!

The gorgeous new chandelier for the dining room finally came and got hung!
Dough bowls…you know I love them and I have a really great new resource, so kept one for myself and filled it with lemons and artichokes…..

Any good  new books or movies lately? I am soo excited over the release of Les Miserables in December!! Anyone else with me on that? I know its going to be fabulous……
Click on arrow to watch the trailer….looks amazing and the music always gives me goosebumps!
Very off the interior design topic, but I caught tale end of something which captivated my attention and that is the focus in some schools and amongst educators on “CPA va GPA”. I was intrigued about what CPA means, it stands for “character point average”, its a movement towards taking a closer look at character education vs. traditional education……there was a very interesting article put out by the New York Times that you may or may not have seen, in any case click here for link if you are interested……(particularly interesting for those who have school aged children)
A little store biz…the big buzz is my very special napkin rings, click here if you missed my post on them, worth seeing they are amazing!

Also getting in 5 of these oversized tole trays……antiqued and painted with gorgeous florals! Email me if interested, don’t think they will go on the online shop so just email me if you have any questions!

So that’s my randomness for this week! Lots of rain around here this weekend…..good weekend for a movie and to catch up on all kinds of things that have fallen to the wayside.  What are you up to this weekend? Hope whatever you are doing is enjoyable and relaxing!

I have fall fever and its contagious……

Good morning……So do I have any fellow fall lovers out there? I know, I know there are soooo many  fall posts out there..but I simply could not resist sharing some favorite fall images.  I must say I get a little pep in my step when fall rolls around, when my sleeveless shirt dilemmas say goodbye until next season, when I feel inspired to start making big pots of my favorite comfort foods (and there are many trust me on that), when apple picking and fall foliage season come about. Yes, this all excites me like you can’t believe!

My own fall decor this season……..

I love waking up that cool air, and opening a window and just breathing fall in. I  love adding little touches around my home to signify falls arrival. Nothing over the top, but little subtle touches here and there. So,  today’s a tribute to fall and the glorious inspiration it inevitably brings like a beautifully wrapped present every time this time of year. How about you? Do you like to add touches of fall into your home?  Do you enjoy the season like I do? Do tell!

How spectacular is this rustic outdoor setting in a barn….absolutely idyllic!
Are you seriously ever too old for a candy apple? I think not…don’t you know if you eat one in the fall, its half the calories:)
Something about an outdoor setting under the rustling leaves with a slight fall breeze…..doesn’t get better!

A fun time to go a litlte crazy with fall decor……love the colors! Pottery Barn
I feel you are never too old to hit a pumpkin farm!

Hello crusty bread and hearty homemade soup!
Fall is a visit to Central Park and watching the model sailboats take sail in the cool fall breeze….
Fall is meant for apple picking (and apple pie ala mode of course)!
Its the perfect season to burn fall scented candles…and how about these darling gourd ones? PB
The spectrum of colors is nothing short of a miracle
Where apples in abundance can be found…..Country Living
And creating beautiful fall-ish vignettes! (Pottery Barn)
I cannot help but think of lazy late afternoons…true I NEVER get to catnap in a beautiful hammock in a sun lit lakeside cozy cabin but I can dream about it! (Pinterest)
How about all those precious little trick or treaters that come around every fall?
Apple pie and fall are practically synonymous!
And doesn’t fall make the most inspiring table setting with the rich colors and wonderful textures! CL
Fall is meant for settings like this, a charming quiet cabin on a lake…….love it!
And wearing gorgeous cashmere sweaters and scarves and fabulous racing gloves..ooh la la!
And creating simple arrangements of beautiful fall leaves and gourds in pretty old urns…..
Give me any excuse to have to stay home and put on a pair of cozy socks…ahh, that’s fall for you!
And finally, fall and wonderful comfort foods go together like oreos and milk, don’t you think?
Well that’s what fall means to me………So what about you? There’s so much to celebrate during this wonderful season! Do you love fall and get excited over it being here too? Whats your absolute favorite thing about this magical season? Do tell!

A perfect fall day with Mary Ann of Classic Casual Home!

Good morning my dear readers. Well, you are in for another wonderful treat by yet another wonderful and talented blogger friend. Say hello to Mary Ann of the popular blog, Classic Casual Home. First a forewarning…….this post may evoke strong feelings of jealousy, so proceed at your own risk. “Poor” Mary Ann lives in the beautiful idyllic coastal town of Newport Beach…yes I know so sad:( And this poor soul gets to grill all year long, enjoy lunches on the beach in the dead of winter and thinks having to “brave the elements” in a trench coat is roughing it.

Poor Mary Ann…..if she wasn’t so darn sweet, it would be easy to be insanely jealous but instead I am in awe of all she does and love seeing life from her sunny perspective. She has super stylish friends besides owning a gorgeous beach home herself…..and all she does is done with great grace and that enviable classic easy going California style. So if you don’t know Mary Ann yet……you are missing out! Enough talking…lets hear from Mary Ann on her take on a perfect fall day, California style…..

Thanks so much, Tina, for inquiring about my

Perfect Fall Day.

I split my time between two beautiful locations, Mammoth Lakes (in the Sierra mountains) and Newport Beach, California.  Both are great places to spend a perfect day.

One word that comes to mind when I think of fall??pumpkins
inside and outside
One of the most wonderful things about fall is…….changing the look of our home with autumn branches and
and my wool, instead of linen, pillows.

My favorite fall color is…
Yellowy gold…like on the far hill in this Van Gogh painting or
this soft alpaca throw from Crate and Barrel...

On a perfect fall day, I would wake up at….at 7 am feeling fully rested and ready to jump out of bed

To the sound of…my husband making me a cappuccino

The view from my window looks something like this…
in Mammoth, Ca

or Lido Bay

The ideal fall weather could be described this way…
“Sweater Weather” 70 degrees and sunny and cooler at night.

My ideal morning activity would be?a hike to Crystal Lake, in Mammoth…
only accessible by foot.

This is a fall outfit you might see me in???
Newport Beach   and   Newport Beach  or
          Mammoth      and     Mammoth

A favorite product (beauty or otherwise) I like to use as the weather gets nippier…
Kiehls Creme de Corps  A great body moisturizer that my mother gave us.  Our skin gets extra dry with the high altitude in Mammoth, Ca.

For a fall breakfast I would indulge in..
“Indulge” you said so…A bagel sandwich with egg, Swiss cheese and crispy bacon, another cappuccino and animated conversation my walking buddies.

My favorite daytime activity in the fall is…..
Well, since this is a perfect day, no work or laundry, just reading The Enchanted Home.

Here’s whats on my plate for lunch…
A arugula salad with sliced pear and toasted walnuts, shaved parmesan, a spritz of fresh lemon juice and drizzle of good olive oil.

Around 3pm you might find me,
on my bicycle headed to ride on the boardwalk at the beach or curled up with a bunch of new magazines.

An afternoon “pick me up” snack might just be……..
dark chocolate

For dinner you might find this cooking on the stove….
Since our Meyer lemon tree in Newport Beach is  producing lots of lemons again…
We grill all year round here.

The perfect way to end a perfect fall day would be?
An electric boat sunset cruise with a couple of fun girls
(Brooke and my daughter, Alie).

Thanks, Tina for allowing me to dream about
My Perfect Fall Day. You are so good about encouraging us
enjoy our dreams!

OK Mary Ann, now that you said reading my blog would be part of your perfect day….I will reconsider being jealous of you and your lifestyle…lol. Absolutely wonderful! This is going to make an awful lot of people wish they were spending their fall days in sunny happy California! I loved your take and everything from your food choices(if you clik on their names, she was kind enough to include a link to their recipes) to your afternoon activities all sound fabulous, I would happily accompany you on any part of this dreamy day. Thanks for being part of this and thanks to all my readers for stopping in. Want to hear and know more about Mary Ann? Then stop on over at her blog, Classic Casual Home and say hello. Party planning and mission accomplished!

One thing to my fellow bloggers…nearly had a heart attack when I signed on this morning to feedburner to change my delivery time to my subscribers and saw my thousands of subscribers GONE! Apparently this is a known problem that they are working on…so don’t be alarmed if you sign on and see the same thing.

Wow what a weekend! We had to go to the city Friday night for a function, but it was far from relaxing as the entire time my head was spinning with all had to do for my family party on Saturday….the drinks I still needed to buy, a market list a mile long,  figuring out if I had the right amount of plates, do I have silverware for 50? Yep……panic mood ensued. Getting home never felt so good as I sprang into action to do damage control. Things were better than I expected and I went to bed thinking I could pull it off.
Sat woke up to beautiful skies and a fair dose of anxiety. Several hours later, after lots of little last minute errands and prepping, the party started coming together. I always allow myself to run around and stress up to a certain point, but I always (and this really works for me) set a time where I must be done with any errands and a time where I get my rest time. My ‘cut off” was 1 pm….and sure enough by that time I had no need to get back in my car. Everything I needed was done and at home…..woo hoo.
My other cutoff time was 4 and like clockwork I went up to my room and took a power nap (yes Mom I can admit that after all these years of you drilling that into me, they really do work)! So at about 5 I started prepping, getting all my appetizers under way, placing all the flowers where they needed to be, and basically getting the house all “prettied up”. I always get in the party mood when I get to this stage…….
I do not have any pictures to show you of the actual party……everything I must say looked so pretty. But I was so busy playing hostess that there wasn’t a second to reach for my camera and sneak a picture besides think it would have been awkward to be running around on a photo shoot….lol. Next time I need a photographer:) But here’s a recap of everything leading up to it………..
WARNING EXTREMELY PICTURE HEAVY, SIT BACK, GRAB ANOTHER CUP OF COFFEE!!

Any time I want to entertain it always has to start with the flowers. Always. Any excuse to buy flowers, especially my beloved white orchids! I do have a local florist who carries beautiful ones but I have taken to doing them myself lately……I get a lot of pleasure out of it. This time I actually did them in the trunk of my car…….yep it became a makeshift florist:)

Batch one of my flowers ready for their makeover…….

Containers galore and here we go!

A big bag of moss to the rescue….

And we are done…..time to bring them inside
Finding their new “homes”

All the silver getting wrapped up in pretty napkins…
Guess whats getting hung!!!! My new chandelier………….

Using the sideboard as a buffet for the dinner plates
And my new sconces got put up in the living room….well two of them, rest this week!
Got a mirror hung behind buffet
Moving to the front of the house……..
Of course I decorated the front of the house too….simple but I think very pretty

Loving the new softer colors of pumpkins…white, celadon and a pale melon….such neat colors!

And moving back  inside………

Even my two new dog paintings got hung………..

Love “dressing up” a vanity with all kinds of pretties……..

Don’t you love my new little cherub soap dish! Just added it to my online store…..

Peek into the pantry which was being used as a bar

One of my guests sent me this magnificent floral arrangement, its about 3 feet tall!

Surprise! Got my new chandelier up in the dining room and its perfect!!!!! I really love it…..brought down a pair of lamps from guest room just to use for the night

Another surprise…got my new sconces up in the living room….LOVE them!

Stunning aren’t they?

The room is far from done, you have to imagine it with the right chairs, getting a mantle finally and the gorgeous chinoiserie paper that will grace the walls

Used this small English console as a table to hold the appetizer plates
First tray getting put out….sushi always one of the first things to go

I had a small round table for a few stationary appetizers and we had passed hor deuvres too (thankfully some left over for a serious eating session later today)
Icing on the cake…waking up to some goodies waiting to be opened, flowers enough to open up my own little florist and a box of chocolates from one of my favorite shops……….

Look at the mini bananas in this arrangement!
So that’s a wrap for how things were on Saturday leading up to my family party. It was a lot of fun, all except for my poor sore feet that are paying the price of standing on them for too many hours so I will prop them up and take it easy today (of course while I am picking at all the leftovers lol). Hope you enjoy your day…gorgeous fall weather over here, loving it! Now excuse me while I go take inventory of the leftovers…………(absolute best part of a party)!

We had to go to the city Friday night for a function, but it was far from relaxing as the entire time my head was spinning with all had to do for my family party on Saturday….the drinks I still needed to buy, a market list a mile long, ?figuring out if I had the right amount of plates, do I have silverware for 50? Yep……panic mood ensued. Getting home never felt so?good as I sprang into action to do damage control. Things were better than I expected and I went to bed thinking I could pull it off.?

And moving back ?inside………

?Even my two new dog paintings got hung………..

I had a small round table for a few stationary appetizers and we had passed hor?deuvres?too (thankfully some left over for a serious eating session later today)
Icing on the cake…waking up to some goodies waiting to be opened, flowers enough to open up my own little florist and a box of chocolates from one of my favorite shops……….
