End of the week musings and a happy Labor day weekend to you!

Hello there…hard to believe its Friday, Labor day weekend and it is nearly the end of summer, kind of crazy huh? I just can’t believe it……..for me personally this is the fastest summer ever. I feel like I am just revving up with my summer list of “to do”s” and have barely made a dent. Oh well, guess it will have to wait until next year!

I hope whatever you have in store for Labor Day weekend is wonderful and relaxing. We are supposed to be away, so hopefully it will all work out:) Lets get started with my random musings post which is normally a bit of this and that…..

House biz. Besides my dining room chairs which I have to say I really love, I added a pair of my newest ginger jars which are the oversized flat tops with birds and have to say I LOVE them. All these new additions has me really motivated to get busy on the chinoiserie and draperies and then call it a day on my dining room. Goal is to get it done by Christmas. Remember you read it here first:) Take a look…….

Also love preserved  boxwood and am going to soon start carrying a wonderful line I found, these small 6″ orbs are perfect for so many containers…

And I got moved one of my blue and white garden seats to the main patio and really like the way it looks……

Got these beautiful framed chinoisersie prints while in Charleston and have to say they were made to go in my powder room. The colors are spot on and so is the theme! Also got some black tole sconce shades and am deciding between the ivory silk or blk tole…thoughts?

 Black or ivory?

You know I love my monogrammed pillows. I have spoken of one of my new favorite resources, Calico Daisy, well take a look at the newest pillows I got from her to be added in my guest room…..just playing right now, got in a pair, not sure where their final resting place will be:)

A great charity. Are you familiar with Donors choose? A friend told me about it years ago and I love the mission, helping teachers all across the country who need help purchasing materials, supplies and necessities for students in need that are part of schools that underfunded. You get to choose which project you want to support. Love this organization.

An amazing DIY from a reader. My reader shared this amazing bedroom makeover with me and it was so pretty…I had to share it. I marvel at her resourcefulness and know we all appreciate a good home makeover! She did a fabulous job…..below is a commentary that she shared with me on how this came to be.

I have just completed a DIY bed for my guest room.  Your planters are so similar, I decided I would share my project with you.

I wanted an antique cane bed, but they were between $4,000 and $7,000.  And none of the antiques came in Queen.  So, I bought a new cane bed and some architectural molding appliques.

They are paintable, stainable and flexible(bend

able

)

.  I had never used them before.

I am also sending pics of the bed without the appliques(pic from manufacturer).

I glued the appliques to the bed, then painted and distressed them with glazing.  I also painted the bed crown to match.  I am really pleased with the way it turned out.  And the best part is, it cost about 1,000!

Can we talk? Hair products!

Good Thursday morning to you! Wow this week is flying..cannot believe Labor day is upon us, any big plans for your weekend?  First,  I just have to say I am have THE most amazing readers. Seriously…….I  was so moved as I read over each and ever one of the 91 (at last count)  comments on my ” Why fall makes me sometimes cry” post and between that and the many emails, I was so comforted to know I am not alone.  If you didn’t see it, hope you might take a look here. Thank you thank you thank you!

Life changes, and I do know that childhood doesn’t last forever and there is plenty of happiness to be found and shared when our young kids begin the metamorphosis into young adults but it is not without some sadness (and a few tears)  and nostalgia that this happens particularly for someone who enjoyed the journey of motherhood as much as I did:) But yes, there are I am quite sure,  lots of happy times ahead and I cannot wait…bring it on:)

Moving along…..today lets talk hair! My hair has changed over the years and as summer turns to fall it changes yet again. But for the first time in my life, I have found a battalion of hair products that I can say I  am madly in love with and simply cannot live without. So much so that I need to share them with you! And of course part of the fun with these “Can we talk” posts is hearing what you have to say on the matter, so do not hold back…tell us all about your favorite hair products,  any tips or insider secrets to great hair. I think we can all agree, we are just a wee bit happier when our hair looks good!

Lets get started……..

Left to right top row…

1. KMS flatout, great anti humidity spray that does not leave your hair heavy at all, once this goes on its ready for battle even on the most humid summer nights!

2. This product, the Kerastase mask,  first off smells sooo good, every time I use it I want to take a bite:) It is a very rich super nourishing leave on mask (I try to leave it on for a good 15 minutes), it leaves my hair super soft and smelling amazing, I use it about 1-2 times a month

3. Unite 7 seconds, one of the best products ever! I love this stuff, its a detangler and makes combing/brushing through my hair a breeze. I swear there some kind of magic potion in there, with amazing powers. I no longer dread having to comb through my wet hair after a shower, also fantastic for the beach.

4. Neutrogena triple moisture is my “every day” conditioner, I use it about every 2-3 days, a little goes a long way. I use about a dollop about the size of a half dollar  and work it into my hair. It is consistently rated as one of the best hair bargains out there and is under $10.00!

5. LOVE this shampoo, Clear scalp and hair therapy. It is literally the best one I have used period, on both on the high and low end. It smells great, works into a salon-esque lather and leaves my hair squeaky clean. I am a fan for life and this is now the only shampoo I buy.

6. This little brush saved my life 🙂 The original wet brush is simply A M A Z I N G! OK, I am being a bit dramatic, but seriously I have ridiculously super sensitive scalp, I still cry when my hair is brushed too hard. This brush actually makes me want to brush my hair. I don’t know if the bristles are magic or what..but this brush rocks! I have three to be sure I always have one on hand, used for wet and dry hair…its AMAZING!!!! Click here to buy it and be taken to their website.

The Clear shampoo and Neutrogena conditioner/mask can be purchased at any pharmacy. I get the Unite 7, Kerastase  and KMS on Amazon.

So there you go..those are my top 6 hair picks. I am a fan for life of these six amazing products…now its your turn? Your turn to spill the beans on what makes your hair happy:) Thanks as always for stopping in to see what’s new and wishing you a fabulous day.

Why the beauty of fall makes me sometimes cry…..

This is more of a personal post and a definite departure from all my posts on pretty interiors but hope you will read it nonetheless….good to change things up every now and then 🙂
As we are about to usher in fall, I inevitably feel the same way right around this time…….

I kid you not on a truly perfect fall day, when the weather is hovering round 60 and there is a cool brisk breeze, when the sky is blanketed in all its royal blue glory,  the sun is radiating its brilliance, when the leaves are turning a Crayola box of colors, when you start seeing smoke billowing out of chimneys and bright yellow school buses rounding ever corner, when you hear the whistle of a referee at an opening day football game, when you see cars loaded up for the seasons first tailgate party,  and college campuses come alive again with open hearts and bright minds ready to embrace new opportunities,  when you start to anticipate weekend trips to Vermont for apple and/or pumpkin picking,  when you smell apple cider permeating the air and get a glimpse of an old truck lugging thousands of pumpkins headed to a local farm………those are the unmistakable signs of  fall. And at the sake of sounding melodramatic sometimes it makes me cry a little…..

I think subconsciously fall symbolizes an unspoken goodbye to my own once young kids,  eagerly waiting for the bus, all the fun (and not so fun) trips to the stores for that dreaded back to school shopping, heck I will even miss some of the arguing over what clothes to buy and not buy, because it meant one thing…….we were together, just doing that simple task of buying clothes meant they were still young, still needed my help and guidance, young enough to still need me to get them there. I was their social secretary, wardrobe consultant, in house chef, part time nurse, tutor extraordinaire, chauffeur on call, playdate wizard, you name it……I was there and miss every second:)

Now my youngest son hops into his car with his friends, heads for the mall without a second thought that I should be there. In his mind, that ship has sailed and this new chapter brings him the independence he has waited 17 years to have and deserves.  It’s admittedly bittersweet……seeing my tall strapping young son (my baby) all grown up, who just started his senior year of high school. So proud of his successes while at the same time wishing he was young enough to still need my presence for his every move.  I well up just thinking of it, don’t know how I am going to get through this last year knowing it’s my last, how I will handle things at his graduation. Bring on the tissues (or Valium) or maybe both:).

So fall for me is very personal, a beautiful reminder that life is short and precious and a privilege and above all something to not take advantage of. Not a single day. For all of you who are lucky enough to still have young children in the house (I envy you), but please trust me on one thing……. try and enjoy all those dreaded school supply shopping trips, the countless pleas  for homework help, the arguments to go to the mall yet one more time, the late night runs looking for poster board (no you are not the only one:), the serious brainstorming over what to wear that first day of school, the hours you will spend scouring the land for that one Halloween costume they must have, them begging for you to make their favorite cupcakes or cookies even when you are so exhausted you can’t move a muscle, the hand holding that they expect all the way to the bus stop, even those early mornings frantically scraping together a quick lunch for them to take……with the blink of an eye it all goes by so so fast.  And don’t even get me started on Halloween!  I know I miss all of these “rites of passage” desperately and for some reason it always hits home come fall. Sometimes fall makes me cry……

So this is a tribute to the beautiful season of fall, which I am sure means different things to different people….it reminds me that life changes and changes fast, new doors open while others close. I think for me, fall will always be a reminder of some of the best times of my life with my kids, as much as I complained about the dreaded back to school blues, it was also an exciting and fun filled time to be a part of, seeing the new season through their young and hopeful eyes.  I was right there at the front line, part of every facet of their life, not missing a single minute……….

Now I feel like nothing but a bystander to all the fall festivities and rites of passage.  While I am walking into Staples to buy tape or printer paper,   I look with envy at all the exasperated parents and eager kids choosing just the right notebooks and backpacks and just want to tell them to enjoy it even amidst the crazy chaos and exhaustion that we parents inevitably feel come fall.  I would happily take the chaos over the calm if it meant them being young again.  It makes me sad yes, but at the same time fortunate that I got to experience it at all. And I guess though at 47 it feels strange to say it, there are always grandkids 🙂

So thank you fall, for being the one season that reminds me of how grateful I am and a season that will always take me back to a very precious time……..even if it makes me cry just a little.

Thanks so much for stopping in and wanting to read what I have to say. Your visits mean the world to me!

Late week musings and a winner!

Hello! First let me announce a lucky winner for the tole planter. Congratulations goes to-

Result: 10 Anonymous August 16, 2013 at 7:32 PM As a tole collector and lover, it’s almost impossible to choose! But, I would have to choose the pair of green lamps. Beautiful, and would be perfect in our master bedroom. Thanks! Debra Taylor/debra@theassumptions.com

Please contact me here to claim your prize and provide shipping details.

How is your week going? Boy, they are going by fast and furious now, don’t you think? It is bittersweet…..it means the end of summer yet the goodbye to humid weather and yucky hair days(bittersweet), the ushering in of cool, crisp weather (super sweet) and the license to dress in beautiful cashmere layers  and indulge in amazing comfort foods (sweetest of all)! It is upon us now and I know many have already started school,  as crazy as it seems.  This post is a little abbreviated (for me) but highlights whats’ going on over here plus a few little tidbits.

So as with all my random posts, this is a bit of this and a bit of that. Some fun, beauty, inspiration and knowledge all rolled into one. Hope you enjoy….

My house. A few new exciting things happened this week. Got in my dining chairs. VERY exciting!! The pale blue silk was a good choice and though they added more of the gold on the chairs than they were supposed to, they still look beautiful! Now this has me wanting to get busy with the chinoiserie and drapes and of course the mantle that is still missing! Then the outdoor lights finally came in after months of waiting. We only had one up, still more to go but the entire back is done….very exciting! These are iPhoto pics so the best I could do this week.

Tah dah, the dining room chairs…….

The striped silk is from Nancy Corzine

Think I have finally decided on bedroom fabrics (also a solid silk and pale blue velvet that are not here) but these I have had a while and I still love them so think they are the winners (pardon the wrinkles, they have put in some serious hours:)

This Clarence House trim is to die for……

And the bell jar in my batrhroom……

And the front door……

And the long awaited lighting came in….this was very exciting too!

Found a great planter, it is a washed lead planter and I am seriously in love with them. I am going to start offering them on my online shop too….its a beauty, don’t you think!

About 36″ x 36″, perfect for large topiaries

An amazing new site. This is totally brilliant. Are you known for saying something over and over? I tell me kids as an example a few things, one is “bloom where you are planted” and  of course I have a few of my own.  SO this site will take any saying you choose, whether its your own creation or one in existence and  make it into a poster. Talk about a great gift! All you do is plug in the saying and they will show you a bunch of different options. You must visit and give it a go, click here to visit recitethis.

 Gotta love this quote 🙂

Two recent movies. One I loved and the other I liked. Blue Jasmine was fabulous…Cate deserves an Oscar in my humble non movie critic opinions. Plus she gets major brownie points for her uber chic wardrobe in the movie. Jobs was good, I walked away a little conflicted about how I felt about Steve, he was a complex character, I was perplexed with how he was able to end important relationships in his life with little feeling or remorse, but brilliant yes he was. I dont’ want to give away too much…both movies worth seeing in my opinion. Finally something worth heading to the theaters for……

A fun Pinterest board. You know I always love to throw in something about food. My Food fun board is one that I have a lot of fun adding to. How amazing do these rustic apple tarts in the skillets look and that cheese spread for a spa party..too cute!! Click here to see my Pinterest board.

Shop news. Some exciting new things!! First off got in another batch of the gorgeous Vanderbilt replica plates. I have 80 pieces to sell.

And take a look at how beautifully  this person from Scribbler Unfocused set up her tables with these plates…..check out her entire setting here.

Guess whats coming back in as we speak? These gorgeous chargers….they will go fast. Expecting about 120 pieces. As always email me if interested, these are just absolutely amazing!

Also just now back in stock are these beautiful black and gold tole planters (both sizes)……

Here are some goodies already on the way, which I am super excited to get…..

Set of three gorgeous black chinoiserie scalloped planters (getting in 8 sets)!

Aren’t those all AMAZING? I am in love and want of each!  I can never get enough of pretty things!

As always contact me here with any inquires or if you wish to purchase.
