Hi there, having a super crazy busy week over here. I was hoping to do a mid week musings post but looks like it will have to wait a few days:) In the meantime, I thought you might enjoy this post! I  have been a long time fan of Michael S. Smith, ever since I spotted a gorgeous apt. he did in Arch Digest. This is major talent on steroids. He is referred to sometimes as a “celebrity decorator” for he has designed homes for names like Cindy Crawford, Kate Capshaw, Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Clearly they recognize major talent when they see it.

Based in Santa Monica, California,  his work however takes him all over the globe. Featured in every major design magazine, he is a name worth remembering. He has been named three times to Architectural Digest’s “AD 100”.  I like that there is no “cookie cutter” look, each is very custom to the respective home/apt.

Many of his projects appear ageless, and its not clear when they were done which to me is always a great hallmark for good design. I love how he uses the old with the new and his color palette  is rich but subdued. Not a bright chevron pattern in sight!  In addition to his design projects, he has collaborated with some of the best names in design to create custom collections for notable brands like Brunschwig and Fils, Visual Comfort, Baker and many more. So now that you know a little about this talented man, take a look at his work……..

Pretty spectacular don’t you think?  If you want to see more of his work or learn more about his distinguished firm, click here. Tell me what do you think of his look…… can you see living in any of these rooms? Have a favorite? I have several faves!

If you are a fan of his work you might consider getting his newest book, Building Beauty which is all about how to create the perfect American house. A great behind the scenes look into the decision making and thought processes that happen behind every great room, this is a book worth owning! Click here to purchase on Amazon. This is his fourth book and likely not his last:)

This is an older book but one I love and cherish, if you don’t have it I suggest it for your own design library…..click here to purchase.

Thanks as always for stopping and wishing you a fabulous day! Be back soon……

Don’t forget about my Blue and white love contest……

My contest theme for November is not surprisingly “Blue and white love“. You know what that means..send in your pictures of your blue and white anything…however you love to display it or use it in your home, your favorite vignette, a beautifully displayed ginger jar, your plate collection, your blue and white nails, your pet wearing a blue and white something….whatever it may be.

Spectacular is the perfect description. So many rooms and spaces that I wish I could spend my day in. How about a martini on that city terrace, or a glass of rosé under that pergola, or a soak in that tub? Gorgeous. Hope you get through all the busyness, Tina! XOXO

Dear Tina I adore several of these rooms so so much and absolutely would feel comfortable in them.
I love his combination of fabulous finds, old world beauty, and comfort!

What beautiful rooms. I didn’t know he has a new book, will go order it now. I love his bedrooms, that billiard room and all of the outdoor spaces are just dreamy. I think you said it best by you don’t know when these rooms were created, they have a very timeless appeal. Wonderful post, Tina.

I am a big fan of his work and love his first book. Beautiful rooms and I could see living in any of them. Need to purchase the new book – thanks!

Another wonderful design book! Classic, comfortable design.. gorgeous outdoor living spaces. Thanks for sharing Tina. Enjoy your day!

I have seen most of these pictures before, but never tire of them. There is such a nuance to his work. I have not purchased his latest book yet but it is on my list!

Wouldn’t you love to see what he designed in the White House for the Obamas?

What a talented man I can see why you were so in amber of this talented firm. I love all the outdoor spaces and the bedrooms are so Luxurious. I think I need to get his new book

I am so sorry I meant Enamored! This iPad and spellcheck do not always perform as expected

What a talent! Very hard to choose a favourite picture. I think he does outdoor areas particularly well. The one with the wicker furniture and the arches framing that beautiful view is just stunning and I love the freestanding bath in that very simple but stylish bathroom. Have a lovely week. x Sharon

Good morning Tina! Awfully late here, but school is keeping me on my toes! I LOVE that photo of the Spanish style outdoor patio with the fireplace. Will you ever light up your outdoor fireplace for us? PLEEEEEEEEEESE? I would love to sit at your veranda by that fabulous fireplace and see how you decorate for an outdoor autumn moment.

BE WELL MY DEAR! Anita

All I can say is Wow!! What amazing, grand rooms. I especially love the black four poster bed in pic 2, being a four poster just takes the room to another dimension, its looks striking – a real focal point. Thanks for the post :O)

We’re huge fans of Michael’s and he’s lovely to work with. So much talent and he keeps reinventing himself. We will definitely be getting his new book and adding it to his others on the library shelf. Hope you have a great weekend, Tina!
