Ringing in the new year with blogging friends…..

Hi everyone! Crazy how 2014 is just about over, isn’t it? Was it a good year for you? I hope so….for me it was a year of many changes, lots of wonderful things happening and I am very ready to see what 2015 has in store.

A major highlight for me in 2014 was seeing my blog continuing to grow and developing so many connections with both readers and bloggers, to say this has greatly enriched my life would be a serious understatement! As I did with Christmas, I am ringing in 2015 with 5 more of my favorite bloggers. I was captivated by what they each had to say and think you will be too.

By the time you are reading this I will be headed on a plane to a warm and tropical island,? cannot wait to get there and do a whole lot of nothing. I have my books, magazines, sunhat and sunblock packed and I am ready to totally unwind. If you care to follow me on Instagram I will be sure to post here and there! (click here to follow me)

As I did with my Christmas posts, I asked five more of my favorite blogging friends to help me ring in the new year. I am so inspired and awed by what they had to say…I know you will be too.

I have another post scheduled for Jan. 1st and really hope it will post on time:) Until then, all the best to you my readers and friends..and cheers to a fabulous 2015!

SAY HELLO TO MARSHA FROM SPLENDEROSA…….

WHAT IS A FAVORITE MEMORY FROM 2014?
2014 was certainly a year of many changes.? And, despite what I would have thought, the changes have been good for me.? The true me.? I have re-learned standing on my own feet, having valid opinions, and decision-making where the outcome is mine and mine alone.
I’ve discovered that as a wife, a mother (even of adult kids) we have learned to take care of everyone except ourselves.
Nurturing our souls, our spirits.? Maybe even going to a movie alone.? But definitely designing and living your own life.? With 2 small dogs, a Poodle named FiFi, and a rock-star Maltese named Bono.

Seriously?? The entire population of our Earth should finally decide to educate our young.? All of the 3rd world countries. America learned from history that abandoning Afghanistan decades ago did not do
anything except cause interruption in the deadly hold the religious radicals impose.? When the men and women finally realize the only way out of the dark ages is to educate the children the world will change.
Women are the key to this.

TO ME THE PERFECT WAY TO RING IN THE NEW YEAR IS…..

At the home of friends.? We don’t have to go out anymore.
My husband & I had a New Year’s Eve tradition, we went to the Houston Symphony’s celebration, then out to dinner at a fabulous restaurant where the entire ceiling was covered with suspended balloons.? The restaurant was call Rivoli.? Alas, the precious owner, also a friend, passed away and no one could do what he did so they closed.? Now a progressive dinner party of homes that are very close to each other and finally the champagne & toasts at midnight.
Every single one of us always has a new outfit purchased for this evening.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY FROM 2014?

2014 was our first year living in San Francisco. I was a little lonely at first. It meant a lot to me that my 89 year old mom got on an airplane to come see us.

She hadn’t flown in a number of years. She’s probably not going to like this picture of her. Sorry Mom

?ANY PERSONAL RESOLUTIONS FOR 2015?

I have quite a few things on my list of resolutions and getting back to running and working out is at the top of my list. With the growth of my blog this past year, working out ended up on the back burner, which is not a good thing. Running happens to be my number one source of stress relief, a beautiful time for me to pray and a way to keep my weight in check. So, to help ring in the new year, I ordered new running shoes and look forward to getting into better shape in 2015!

Seven on Sunday

Good morning! Still can’t believe Christmas “14 is over. I got some wonderful gifts including a great new Canon camera from my parents, cannot wait to start using it. The iPad is an amazing and handy device but still cannot replace the quality of the pictures from a good camera.

Well as things slowly get back to normal, here I am with my Seven on Sunday. Time to share seven things that have caught my eye this week. Always random and never a shortage of fun things to talk about…..would love to hear from you about anything interesting that has crossed your path! Meanwhile here is what is on my radar……

new174-35-300x31

1. A NEW PERFUME. Got a sample in the? mail of Aerin’s new fragrance, Waterlily? Sun (even love the name)? and I have to say I absolutely love it. So much so that I have ordered myself a bottle. I haven’t found a fragrance in a long time that I like quite as much so thought I would share just in case you too are in the market for a new fragrance. New year, time to try new things right?

1400540128020_1400540128020_1_482x482I am now enticed (and was surprised to learn there are 4 other fragrances) to try the rest,? as a few of these sound really good!

2. TILEBAR I am so impressed with the vast selection of Tilebar. I got in one of their goody boxes filled with all kinds of marble samples and they even threw in unexpected things like candy and mini vodka bottles…how fun is that!

Their prices are super competitive and their website is extremely user friendly. We are doing two bathrooms right now and Tile Bar is where I will be getting the materials, great new resource! Just a few that I am considering are below, truly not a bad one in the bunch! Free shipping, free returns and price matching…..who can ask for more! Click here to visit Tilebar.

4. COOKING CLASSES AT BLACKBERRY FARM….SIGN ME UP! I have wanted to visit this luxurious award winning getaway in Tennessee for quite some time now. I was excited to learn that they have a very expansive calendar of cooking classes from some of the culinary stars in today’s immense cooking universe. A friend and I are now trying to figure out when we could swing a visit to partake in one of their fabulous sounding cooking classes.

I wish I could attend the “Taste of the south” on Jan. 8th but there are others that sound equally enticing. Irregardless, this is now shooting straight up to the top of my list of my “to do”s for 2015! Sounds like such fun, and what a dreamy place….have you been? 5. AN INCREDIBLY GOOD NEW RECIPE! ! I thought I had conquered the title of making the best stuffed mushrooms. Well……I was intrigued while prowling Pinterest some time ago when a picture? motivated me to try a new recipe and am I glad I did! These are perhaps the best stuffed mushrooms I have ever eaten, soooooo good! I made them over Christmas and it is an understatement to say they were well received and went in no time flat.

We are very lucky to have an old school Italian specialty shop nearby that has incredible meats so I get my sausage there and good tasty sausage is key, but I am sure at any upscale market/Whole Foods you can get a great sausage that will do the trick. This is an excellent appetizer and one that will be a permanent fixture in my own repertoire that is sure to please…..visit Sweet Sugar Bean for the recipe.

6. THE MOST THOUGHTFUL GIFTS FROM? DEAR READERS. I received between my birthday and Christmas two wonderful? and unexpected presents, one from a reader/customer here in the U.S. and another arrived in the mail all the way from the UK, from a? very dear and most thoughtful reader.? First I received the most beautiful antique blue and white plate with an English mark. Kathy knows of my incessant love for all things blue and white and gifted this beautiful treasure to me for the holidays! I enjoyed displaying cookies on it over the holidays.

Then….imagine my delight when I opened this incredible “almost too pretty to open” blue and white box of beauty. Inside were individually wrapped (beautifully) different flower bulbs, she had read of my love for flowers and my hopes to own a greenhouse soon. A beautiful card and letter accompanied this incredible gift.

There are not words to express my gratitude or how I touched I was to receive both of these extraordinary gifts. When I say I have the best readers, I truly mean it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Kathy and Sally….these will be treasures I will look at as a testament to the wonderful friendships I have made through my blog.

7. GORGEOUS CHINA!? God knows I do not need another plate for the rest of my living years but these sure do tempt me! Have you seen Toile Tale by Scalamandre? They are so so pretty and come in 4 scrumptious shades, yes I am very tempted. VERY. Plus they are really affordable which might make them too good to pass up:) Sold in most dept stores and many places online. A sure way to add beauty to any table……

Hello……hope everyone had a wonderful and very merry Christmas!!? Can you believe its come and gone? We are still very much in a food coma but have to say it was such a perfect day.

We started? Christmas day with a big brunch and spent the afternoon cooking and watching movies from when the kids were younger,? topped it off with a fantastic Christmas dinner and then we watched Legends of the fall…..a classic and my husbands all time favorite (hard to argue it’s a wonderful movie).

Then it was time to move onto dessert…….apple crumb and pecan pies from a local farm that makes the most divine pies, Young’s Farm. And of course we polished it off with a nice heap of vanilla ice cream:)

Everyone received all kinds of wonderful gifts but above all just being together was the best gift of all. I sure hope your Christmas was exactly as you hoped it would be! I am here to announce a lucky winner for the $100 Linen and Boxwoods giftcard giveaway. Congratulations goes to………

All of these floors are from Tilebar who has some of the most beautiful things and some of the best prices I have found anywhere for custom marble waterjet flooring, so many pretty choices, makes it hard to choose! Curious to see which comes out on top….

40 more ways to rock a Christmas present!

Hello! Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend…..our party was a huge and beautiful success. Still trying to regain my energy as I sure do need it today, on my second cup of coffee…..strong coffee:)

Calling all last minute gift wrappers……does this find you? knee deep in the holiday hustle bustle yet? Wrapping gifts like an elf on too much caffeine? Yep me too!? I have wrapped nearly all my gifts with a handful left to wrap, but I still have a number to buy so you can guess what I will be up to today:)

I love to change things up with my gift wrapping and take it pretty seriously.? This year I just adore the custom gifttags I had made by LB Originals(seen in picture 27)….she carried out my wish for a mossy green card with a pretty blue and white ginger jar to perfection. They added such a pretty touch to any gift I used them on.

One of my most popular posts was when I did a post on 35 amazing ways to rock a Christmas present(click here to visit), I guess no matter how good we get at wrapping, we are always open to new ideas….goodness knows thats the case with me so…..bring it on:)

So here we go with 40 even more amazing ways to get that gift in tip top shape….have a few of your own ideas? Do tell!

Had a fabulous party last night but am exhausted and may just have to stay in my pjs all day doing a whole lot of nothing! Everything turned out so beautiful and delicious (so bummed that my iPad died early on) but did take some pics and will share soon.

Can you believe that we are just 4 days away from Christmas!! Holy smokes, how did that happen? I am about 90% done with my shopping, have one son who I am held up on but hope to accomplish his gifts later today or tomorrow. Before I begin, time to announce the very lucky winner of the HomeGoods $100 giveaway! Using random.org the winner is…….

? Hi Tina, I too love Home Goods. Slowly but surely over the past few years I have replaced many items in my home with ones from them. I have styled my home with a European country look almost exclusively from Home Goods. By having their charge card the $10 bonus rewards are a welcome gift each month ( some months have been as high as $40 but we won?t tell the Mr. )I wish you were also giving away your basket as I have a close friend in need of such especially through the holidays. But your generous and talented spirit has inspired me to do the same and create one for her. She sure needs some TLC and love. May you and your family have a blessed and joyous Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New year. Judy

Congratulations, please email me at theenchantedhome@gmail.com with your shipping details and have fun shopping!

Decking my halls….enchanted style!

Hi dear friends… I am? in the thick of the holiday hustle and bustle, much like you I am sure. I am totally wiped out, with not a single second to spare. Between decorating, working on design projects, planning a holiday party, gift buying, and sending out many holidays orders, this little elf is ready for a vacation!

unnaccccmed

This post will be it until Sunday as I am knee deep in finishing up shopping and getting ready for our family Christmas party.? I am relieved that I did my holiday decorating nice and early…because there just don’t seem to be enough hours in the day.? No rest for the weary..that is my personal tagline for this holiday season.

unnamexcvcd

I have put the finishing touches (or so I say at least for now, as I am an unstoppable tweaker) on the house and the holiday decor. Yes, I tend to go big and really get into? it…but why not, its a beautiful holiday and a chance to take down my boxes and boxes of holiday decorations and put them to good use!

unnavv3med

It was a bit of a mixed bag, as I still have some of my red themed items,?? I am not one to waste so I put them to good use though my colors have changed over time and I now prefer a more muted, woodsier look, think pinecones, lots of greenery and more subtle colors. Some of these pictures you might have seen, but most are newly taken.

unn866amed

So here is a wrap up of my holiday decor this year, while it was fun and uplifting to put together…it was also A LOT of work! Hope your own planning has gone well, I know all of us “little elves” work hard to make it the best holiday our families can hope for, and despite the work it is truly such a magical season. Give me a great holiday song and all my stresses melt away:)

You will see that there is no rhyme or reason to the sequence of these pictures (didn’t have extra time to work on that) so it’s a bit random…….

All pictures taken with my iPad as my camera is acting up…maybe Santa will decide I have been a good girl and give me one for Christmas:)

So there you go. Believe it or not I still have a few wreaths that are not yet hung and need to “Christmasize” my powder rooms for my holiday party this Sat. I just wish I could think of a way to add more hours to my day. Hopefully tomorrow I will wrap things up and get this done…..it is exhausting but so much fun to make magic happen and I love seeing my home all decked out for the holidays.

A beautiful holiday basket with HomeGoods and a $100 HomeGoods giveaway!

Hello there! Busy busy days over here as we cross off the days until Christmas! My decorating is just about done but there is still quite a bit of gift buying to do. I was so honored last year when HomeGoods selected me as their choice for classic traditional bloggers…….what an honor to have been selected, because we all know there are so many amazing blogs out there. So thank you HomeGoods!

We have done a few things together since and I was particularly excited when we partnered together for this holiday basket project. I was given $100 to go to HomeGoods and make up a basket for someone who could use a little cheering up this season. I knew just the person I had in mind.

They also generously offered a $100 gift card to one lucky Enchanted Home reader! And no where does $100 go as far as does in a HomeGoods store, trust me! (winner to be announced on Sunday)

HomeGoods is brimming with seriously the most amazing holiday finds, I don’t know anyone who can compete, they have so much and the prices are incredible. Your dollar goes very far and you leave feeling like Santa Claus with having saved tons….isn’t that the best way to shop!

So below are the highlights of my shopping trip there and of course along the way I found all kinds of goodies to pick up, it is also the best place to channel your inner holiday giftwrap goddess vibe, I get so excited to wrap my gifts once I have been to HomeGoods!

So here we go,? join me as I stroll the aisles of HomeGoods.….

unnameVBVd

It might look quiet and calm but I assure you this is one of the busiest (but most chock full) HomeGoods I have been to…..you MUST get there early!

unnamNBVed

Holiday decor is everywhere..if I didn’t have enough to open up my own Christmas shop I would have snapped up a few of these beautiful trees at $39 and $49!

ubvc3nnamed

And if you are in a pinch for a last minute gift, how chic would it be to bring a bottle of wine or champagne and put them in one of these beautiful furry wine bags!unadfanamed

There were so many packages of napkins, when the shelves were too full they were loaded into shopping carts! I think I have enough for the next 10 Christmas’s!

unnaBV3med

Another great last minute gift, cute whimsical napkins in their holders AND all wrapped up..now that is what I call easy giving.

u32cnnamed

For someone who loves to giftwrap or a craft enthusiast, these shelves would have made your heart sing!

unncvc3amed

I loved this little art boards, I know just the person to give each one to…..at only $6.99 these were a steal!33xcunnamed unnamevccd

unnamefdszdHoly nutcracker! If you love nutcrackers, this is the place to get them and the prices were the lowest I have seen!

unnafasamed

There were beautiful boxes and acres of gorgeous giftwrap at only $2.99 a roll!

unnaaa2med

These charming Spode mugs set the tone for my basket, “holiday tea for two” and then I found the charming plates to matchunnamafvaed

I was able to get great coffees and teas from Godiva, chocolates and pretty packages of shortbread all under $4.99 eachunna33acmedYes my cart was starting to look really really full!

unadfdnamedBefore long my shopping cart was overloaded!

Meanwhile back at home,? here is what I created, a beautiful holiday basket brimming with all kinds of fabulous holiday goodies! If I were to waltz into a local shop that carries baskets, this would easily set me back $250 + but I was able to put this entire basket together for a whopping total of $98.15! And when I say it is full….I mean FULL!

unnafas3med

It all started with this wonderful multi functional basket, about 16″ x 15″, generously sized and at only $14.00 it was a bargain!

And after playing around with just how it would all fit, here is what I came up with…..a really gorgeous basket filled with holiday goodness sure to brighten someones day!

unnaadsfmed

This has a little bit of everything, mugs and plates, teas, coffees , chocolates and cookies, dish towels, potpourri, napkins and guest towels, gift wrap and candles!? Covered just about all of it!

unnabvc3med unnamnb3ed uadfannamed

I added small sprigs of evergreen and pinecones to help give it that final festive touch!

I had to go buy more cellophane but will wrap this baby up and stick that big tartan bow around it and go and make someones holiday just a little merrier.

new174-58-300x20

So there you have it…my shopping excursion to HomeGoods which did not at all disappoint and my basket that I made up which I recently delivered to an overjoyed recipient could not have been a bigger hit!

A birthday lunch to remember…..

Hello! Well here I am as a 50 year old, it is official! I had a wonderful week long of birthday mini celebrations, just want I wanted. A few different dinners with great friends, a special outing with my family,? a beautiful birthday lunch thrown for me by a dear friend this past Thursday and it all culminated with such a fun time in NYC this weekend.

It really was exactly how I wanted to usher in this new decade……so thank you to all for being a part of it and for helping me celebrate. To all my readers your kind messages, touching emails and heartwarming words of wisdom mean more than you? know.

So thought today was a great day to share a few pictures (the word few being a relative word in my world) of the beautiful birthday lunch a very good friend threw for me in her stunningly beautiful home……what I didn’t capture here is how every one of these rooms has practically a 360 degree view of the Long Island Sound! I would have been hardpressed to find a prettier setting for a wonderful birthday lunch! So here are the highlights……

So that my friends are the highlights of this beautiful afternoon….it was so enjoyable and I was bestowed with so many wonderful gifts. More than anything (though who doesn’t love great gifts and beautiful celebratory meals) being surrounded by the love of good friends and family was the very best part. This past week made turning 50 a breeze……bring it on! Thank you again for celebrating with me even if virtually:)

Now that the birthday celebrations are over…….time to focus back on Christmas! Still quite a bit of shopping to do and time to get busy for our annual family Christmas party this weekend, no rest for the weary. Hope your holiday planning is going well and smoothly…..cheers to stress free holidays (if you can figure out how by all means, let me know)! Hope you have a wonderful day…….ho ho ho.
