Hi there, hope your week is off to a great start…..so crazy that we are already in the first week of August!

As some of you know we have been working (off and on for a while) on the “lower level” aka basement. It is a very large space with many rooms, it literally feels like a separate house:)? You might have first read about this project on this post (click here). Truth is, my husband and I were at odds about this project.? While it is really an incredible space, with ten foot ceilings and an abundance of windows/doors, it really does not at all feel like a “basement”. However, I was the more practical one and just didn’t feel finishing it was so necessary as the kids have flocked the nest:) However my husband had different ideas.

So….slowly we did start the lower level beginning with one room, the movie room. To my husbands credit, we use this room all the time (especially him as he is a movie fanatic). It came out beautiful with the rich navy walls, huge 15 foot wide super comfy sectional and of course the enormous screen doesn’t hurt:) Then we moved onto the “big room” and started by putting in this fabulous light colored tile that looks like wood-

Then one thing led to the next, and we decided to finish the gym, which as of last week just got the mirrors put in and it’s at last looking like a real gym, now we just need to use it. OK full disclosure I did do 20 minutes on the treadmill a few days ago while watching Bravo and must admit it felt good to be exercising again:)

Finally we decided to tackle the “big room” which had just the flooring, we originally planned out the space that we always envisioned as a large room to host a party in, we wanted it to have a “Napa vibe” with soft colored woods, linen type furniture and envisioned a big bar and ample seating, with a TV or two. As formal as upstairs is we wanted this to feel more elegantly casual. My husband even had the vision to build a fireplace down there (and we kept the mantle from original house and used it down there). Smart man.

Slowly we worked on that room too, had the bar built, beams put in, had it painted and then at last? having just put furniture in a few weeks ago, it made me realize what a truly amazing idea it was, and all thanks to my husband:)

I seriously could be so happy living down there and calling it Tina’s apartment. It is such a great space, certainly does not feel like a basement with the french doors and many windows, it is flooded with daylight during the day and really is just an incredible space. No wonder he’s talking about wanting to host a party…it’s an amazing space for a party (or Tina’s pied a terre).

Now keep in mind, this is still a work in progress, we have art to still put on the walls and I used some of my beautiful patio pillows just to have something on the sofas for now (and they don’t look half bad)! Still styling the bar, and tweaking accessories here and there etc…but this gives you the idea…..

Took the best pictures I could with my camera (still not great at getting the lighting right) but learning!

So there you have my new apartment, lower level/entertaining space. I must admit I absolutely love it, it is so light and airy, inviting and so comfortable.? I have to give my husband credit for having the vision and push to make us? do it….it is really a fabulous space and I cannot wait to put it to good use!

For part 2 I will share the gym and movie room and eventually will get around to the bathrooms (well they do have a toilet so technically they are almost done:) I just ordered the vanities so sooner than later. Thank you for stopping in, wishing you a wonderful day.

My jaw physically dropped when I scrolled to the first pic of the finished room. I’m. Not. Kidding. What a beautiful space you’ve created, and very different from the rest of the home! It’s amazing that this is your basement. I love the brass details, marble choice, cabinet stain, flooring and ceiling. This room should be an advertisement for Safavieh furnishings! Incredible, Tina!!

I don’t even know where to start, Tina. It looks amazing. I love the floor and the beautiful bar area and the seating around the sofa is perfect. I’d hate to ever leave the lower level?fabulous!!

Perfect!! The various finishes are a great blend – lots of texture and old world charm. I have wood ceramic tile in the mudroom and wine room, love that it has wood texture (and cleans so easily). And of course it works perfectly with your blue and white love. It’s elegant and welcoming at the same time – perfect blend for a soiree lounge.
I can see the pretty blue and white invitations going out to friends now.

Absolutely lovely! I could move in right now. Surprised you put a couch in front of one set of the French doors though ~ any special reason? So light and airy ~ just LOVE it!

The basement is beautiful!! As always, you did a wonderful job!! I would love to know the name of the paint? It is a perfecr color. Love your blog! Thank you for sharing your beautiful; home.

Stunning! Absolutely stunning! Enjoy your new space and a huge pat on the back for your husband!

Your basement is bright and beautiful! Love all of the details, especially the stunning bar. The entire space is gorgeous and so multifunctional. Your decorating talent really shows!

Love the room. Am using the same tiles in my beach home. Love the color of the walls. What BMoore paint color did you use?

Just when I thought your home could not possibly get more beautiful… you do this incredible dream of a downstairs renovation. I cannot refer to that gorgeous space as a basement. Love the furnishings highlighting your trademark blue and white. I can see why your husband spends so much time it. Positively gorgeous… You did it again. Enjoy every minute of it.

Jaw dropping incredible! There isn’t one thing that isn’t perfection! Can’t wait to see the rest of the “lower level”!

Love the space. I must admit though, I might have been tempted to do this one area of your home in a cozy, luxurious wall to wall carpet. The Navy chairs are wonderful. My husband would have insisted on a Scotch tasting cigar room…LOL! Glad you didn’t have to deal with that πŸ™‚

Beautiful job Tina!

Tina, what an incredible space you’ve created!! Those navy chairs are gorgeous!! ..and I love the equestrian prints. Your bar is fully stocked and ready for a fun party. Good for you for getting back to the treadmill;)

Hi Tina,

This room is “so you”. A very cohesive flow from upstairs.
You will love this space for family and entertaining.
The light just makes this room.

Thank you for the source information. Would like wall
color.

I love what you have done
The fox hunting mural is amazing –
Yes, I would love to know what paint color you used-

anazing amazing !!

Another fantastic, beautiful space by TINA!! What fun you will have enjoying parties here, too. You are so talented and i always enjoy every blog post because you never disappoint! Are you comfortable sharing the source for the hunt scene black and white photo triptych? I saw it somewhere else a while back, but was unable to source it and would love to know. My hub wants an English basement and this just might do the trick. Thank you …if you are willing to share that. Looking forward to seeing the gym and all the rest too. Cheers!

Hi Tina, I’ve been following your post for a few months, this is my first time commenting. Your home is simply stunning, I love the mixture of formal traditional upper level, with all the beautiful blue and white pieces, and now your new lower level a more relaxed feel, but still so eloquent. My husband and I moved from Florida to Texas over nine years ago and are in the process of building our (hopefully last), dream home here. It’s pretty large with three floors. I am an antique, traditional girl, but want to do a less formal lower floor, calling it the,” fun floor.” Thanks for giving me so many ideas as to how to achieve this. I look forward to seeing your post, it’s like opening what I call a, “pleasure for the senses.” Thank you, Linda

Tina,
Your house is so beautiful. The entertaining room is so gorgeous and timeless. I hope to look back on these photos 20 years from now. In the year 2035, I think your designs will still look beautiful and timeless.

I have been following you for almost a year now and this is my first post. REALLY enjoyed the emotions and thought process you communicated in this post and it goes without saying that the result was perfect. WHERE did you get that art work?? Absolutely love it and would be interested for my own home. I love your taste and find your ideas inspiring. Thank you!

I love everything about this room. Well done. Hope you & your family enjoy many happy times together here with many laughs.

Tina, all I can say is “Wow, wow, wow”to quote a gorgeous one year old I know, and follow up with his four year old sister’s favourite word “Supercalafragilisticexpialidocious” (equally gorgeous)!

are you sure this is the basement? because i think i may need video proof that it is indeed your lower level and not a posh estate in the napa valley. how beautiful did this project turn out, tina!?! i am sold on those floor tiles and had been thinking travertine for our lower level. i think a porcelain tile would be easier for my husband to install, and just look at the warmth your room takes on with that wood look-alike! thanks for sharing your creations so graciously, and i cannot wait to see the next makeovers! peace to you.

Speechless! It is just gorgeous and a perfect extension of your upper floors. Your husband has amazing taste, too, and it’s great that he either loves blue and white, too, or lets you decide. Can you imagine a husband who wanted reds and greens or something? That would be hard!!
Stacy

This is simply amazing! The colors, the floor, the furniture, I could move in! I would love to know the paint color and also where the three “Hunt Scene” pictures came from.
Tina, everything is perfection!
