So, how did you end up blogging?
I was looking through one of my design magazines and saw the link to Habitually Chic.? I started reading Heather?s blog and the blogs of others and decided to try the blogging thing myself.? Well, two years later, here I am!

A few things I love about fall are………………..
Everything.? I love the weather, the clothes, the festivals, and the sports! ?

You get to spend a month at the perfect beach house on the beach, will it be Malibu or Nantucket??Well, either would be perfect, but Nantucket would most likely be my first choice. I love the quaintness of this area.

Two weeks first class all the way, is it London or Paris???Both places are on my list of places to visit, but I would love to go to Paris to see the art, food, and antiques.? I would love to go to the Louvre.?
My daughter speaks French, and has been to Paris, so I think I would invite her to go.

If I were 18 again I would……. eat healthier foods and take better care of my skin.
Otherwise, I wouldn?t change a thing. Life experiences make us who we are, and I am happy with my life and my family.

What would be on your plate for your ultimate dream dinner and dessert?
Filet of beef with a wine reduction, lobster tail, asparagus, and garlic mashed potatoes.? For dessert, I would order tiramisu.

Tell us as little or much as you want to about your family?
I have two lovely sisters, and two beautiful children.? My son is married to a beautiful woman, and my daughter is in her fourth year of college.?
I am so proud of them, and can?t wait to be a Grammy one day!

Worst habit? Best trait?
My worst habits are drinking too much coffee and talking too much.?
My best trait is my love for people. ?

Favorite design trend?
My favorite design trend is a more neutral palette and the rustic textures.

One?golden rule/advice for decorating that you would pass on.
Decorate with the colors, furnishings, art, and keepsakes that are special to you.?You home should showcase who you are.

Designer icon….Bobby McAlpine

You get to have lunch with anyone in the entire world, could be from Hollywood, a famous author or playwright, a politician, rock star, a cooking guru, religious leader, anyone?who are the lucky two to sit at your table? ??Anderson Cooper.? I love his drive and dedication to his life, family, and career.

A perfect day would start with Croissants, fruit, and coffee on the terrace and end with dinner and wine at a fabulous bistro.

If we could only live in one season year round, which would you choose and why??
Winter.? It puts a skip in my step, and I love the fresh cold air.? I also love the holiday season, especially Christmas.

Describe your favorite outfit.?
My favorite outfit would be a heavy cotton cable knit sweater with wool pants or jeans and knee high boots.

Tell me about a dream vacation for you and your family??
I have always wanted to go to Italy.? The architecture and art is amazing, and the food is perfect!

Favorite movie or book that you could read or watch over and over? ?Oh goodness, I guess it would have to be a tossup between You’ve got Mail or The Holiday! I also love The Great Gatsby.

3 qualities that I think fairly describe me are.?
Optimistic, dedicated, and driven.

Comedy or dramas?
Definitely comedy!? I am a chick flick kind of girl!? Bring on the laughter and the tears.

A book that I have read in the last few years that I really really loved………………..
Julia Child?s ?My Life in France? was a charming book.? I read a lot of textbooks in my MLA program.

In my next life I will be a designer early on.

One thing I absolutely cannot live without is.………coffee and my iPhone.

If I have learned one thing in life, it is……………….. Do what you love.? It always takes you to where you should be!

And now a little recap on the all the things Teresa loves!

Loved You’ve got Mail, its one of those movies, Teresa I could watch over and over, ditto The Great Gatsby! ?Anything Julia Child I say a big resounding yes to and please include me when you meet with your buddy Anderson. Don’t forget to also visit me over at Splendid Willow to see what I am enjoying giving as a gift this year!

Last, Lauren from Aspiring Kennedy reached out to a group of bloggers to ask them to spread the word about Charity Water and the Well done campaign.. I was thrilled to do so as I am aware of this fabulous organization and it is with pleasure that I ask you to take a look at this powerful video which shows you how Charity water came to be. It is truly an extraordinary story and one worth the few minutes it will take to watch, I promise you will not regret it! ?To think, it ?all started with a birthday!!

If you feel moved to donate, please visit the link below. Even one dollar is not too little, every cent makes a difference in this effort to ensure that everyone is given the luxury of clean drinking water. A campaign has started, a challenge has been issued to have each of the 25 blogs raise $250.00 within a month. There is no doubt in my mind that we can do this! I think nothing about grabbing several bottles of clean Poland Spring water every day, taking a shower, brushing my teeth a few times a day,etc…..knowing the water is clean and I am protected. Many do not have this luxury. I hope you will consider joining the fight to ensure clean water for everyone.

Behind the blogger…..meet Desiree from Chic Coastal Living!!

Good morning, its Monday and you know what time it is….Behind the blogger! Time to meet another very talented and stylish blogging friend. Say hi to

Desiree of Chic Coastal Living

I love Desiree, though she lives far away, all the way down in sunny Florida, we feel like we know each other, she is so friendly, warm and kind, the quintessential Florida girl. A teacher, an avid runner and blogger, Desiree is someone who likes to keep busy and stay active. Yes, that’s her below, just add pretty to her long list of attributes…its hard to like someone who looks like she does AND eats nachos and salsa every single day but her personality and kindness trumps it all and I love her! Her blog is based upon chic coastal living, and always infuses some kind of coastal vibe with whatever she is posting about. Her positive energy just radiates off of everything she says and does and its infectious! She talks about everything from clothing and accessories to great houses and interiors to recipes. We have a love of Tory Burch, Mexican food, The Hampton’s and three boys in common. If you are not already a fan of Chic Coastal Living, I urge you to pop on over and say hello. She is a real gem. Now lets get to know her a little better……

Click here to visit Chic Coastal Living and thanks Desiree for participating!

CHIC COASTAL LIVING
So……. what inspired you to start blogging in the first place? I just happened to read a blog one day…I can’t remember how I found it, but I read, Hooked on Houses and started to visit Julia’s blog everyday. I did a little research on how to start one and Voila….here I am!  The truth is, I’ve always dreamed of having my own website.  It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for many years and I’m so grateful that starting one was so easy! If I would have known how easy it was to start, I would have been writing a long time ago!

How did you come up with your blog name?  I love the idea of coastal living and  really wanted to have those two words in my title.  Since starting a blog literally took me two minutes, I needed to come up with a name super fast! Yikes! I love the word chic and looked it up in the dictionary and it means, smart and stylish.  That’s it!  Smart and stylish coastal living!  Chic Coastal Living!

Do you have a favorite all time movie? Oh my! There’s so many chic flicks to choose from but I would have to say, Something’s Gotta Give.  I watched that movie about 100 times when we bought our home 6 years ago.  I loved the design aspect and of course the location of the home.  That movie really inspires me in life and was a great starting off point for writing my blog (6 years later).  (You can only understand this if you have design in your blood).

You get to spend a month in the European  countryside…..is it Italy or France?  Oh it will have to be Italy!  My husband is Italian and his family is from southern and northern Italy.  In our home, food brings us together and it would be a dream to travel all throughout Italy and eat to our hearts content!  We find so much excitement over dipping Italian bread in herbs and olive oil!

Favorite meal? Mexican all the way!  I can eat chips and salsa everyday! Not sure if this counts as food but I also love coffee. I just started drinking coffee when I turned 40 this year and I see what all the HYPE is about….it really keeps me awake! I get so much done after a few sips of my favorite pumpkin latte!

Tell us as little or as much as you want to about your family. Well, do you have an hour to spare?  Just kidding!  I am so blessed to be married to a handsome, wonderfully smart guy that I met when we were teens, 18 and 19.  We’ve been married for a little over 18 years and have three boys ages 16, 13, 11.  My boys are, thank You Lord, smart as a whip, ‘A’ students and athletic.  They’re involved in many school activities and sports.  This keeps me very busy!  We eat dinner together every night and enjoy going boating and snorkeling on weekends. We also have a beautiful extended family that we spend time with, as well!

If you could have any career what would it be?  Not sure if you know this, but I’m a 3rd grade teacher.  I stayed home for 12 years with my boys and have been teaching for the past 6 years.  While I love my job, I know I would have thrived in a career in design.  I’ve been designing since I was 6! My dream is to design beach bags! I guess, I could possibly have the best of both worlds one day!

Favorite design style? Coastal chic! Lately, I’ve been leaning towards the California modern coastal chic look if you can imagine what that means.  Clean lines and the feeling that you are on vacation.  That’s what I love!

If you could only live in one color what would it be?
It would have to be white!  The ‘perfect white’ from Restoration Hardware!  It’s what my walls in my home are painted right now.

Favorite season and why? I would have to say summer!

Design icon? Jackie Kennedy ~ she’s was so beautiful and always had such a remarkable poise about her.  It seems like she loved all of the design details in life that I do!

One place you haven’t been that you want to visit-  Hawaii!  I was just looking up resorts this morning for next year summer trip! I would love to go to the new, Disney Aulani Resort in Oahu!

What’s your number one pet peeve? Hording.  I don’t like clutter.

What are the two best things about blogging?  I think the best thing about blogging for me is being able to share what I truly love about design in all aspects and meeting wonderful people on the other end, like you Tina!

You get to have a private dinner with any two people in the world, they can be from the fashion, design world, literary world, Hollywood, politics, etc….your choice. Who are the lucky two? I would love to have dinner with Michelle Obama.  I think she has great style and is a wonderful mother. The other person would have to be Martha Stewart! She’s the one that got the ball rolling for many of us!

Do you have a favorite saying or quote? The Lord is with you………I want people to know that they are not alone.  My faith is very strong and is the most important thing in my life.

Most overrated trend right now? At this time, nothing comes to mind but if you were to ask me a few weeks ago I would have said zig-zag lines…but this week or actually today, I love them!

Reading anything interesting that you want to share?  I am reading Little Bee right now for my book club. I heard that its a great book and I’m excited to see what happens!

You are 18 again. What do you do?  I would want to know what I know at 40! Haha!

What are your plans for the fall/winter?  Thanksgiving is only days away and I’m looking forward to having dinner with my family in the Keys. We always look forward to being together and enjoying each others company. I am also training to run a marathon with a few of my friends. This time of the year in Floirda is perfect for running. I would say my biggest goal right now is to not get hurt and finish the race that will take place in January!

In ten years I will be………………..enjoying quality time with my family and in good health.

If you could live anywhere on earth and money was no object where would you go? Trust me. My husband and I talk about this once in awhile!  I would buy a spacious beach house in the Hamptons!  I always say if I won the lottery, I would be on a plane the next day buying a beach house!

Best tip or two for any new bloggers reading this…….Write about what you love , write everyday and  learn how to use programs to make great collages.

Blogging to me is inspiring and a huge blessing.

And now a little recap on some of what Deseiree loves…..

Desiree, besides being just a little intimidated that you are training for a marathon but still eat chips and salsa everyday, the fact that you love Somethings gotta give and watched it almost as many times as I have, means you have more than redeemed yourself in my eyes…lol!! Love what you said about if you were 18, oh yes…if we only had our wisdom then on what we know now, youth really is wasted on the young don’t you think?  And I would love to sit down with you, Martha and Michelle…now that would make for an interesting dinner! How wonderful does this girl sound? Grounded, so into her family, smart,REAL, and has her priorities in check, that is how I would describe Desiree. Please visit her at her so beautiful blog, Chic Coastal Living and say hello. Thank you all for stopping by and Desiree thank you for being a part of my Behind the blogger series! Wishing everyone a beautiful day!

I love going to Sherry’s blog for many reasons, one of which is she has a keen eye and a wonderful take on interior design, Sherry has been a successful interior designer for 20 years on top of being a fitness instructor ( I know so not fair that shes talented AND super fit) and its always so informative and interesting to get her take on things. I love how she engages her readers by including us in her design planning, showing us color schemes and inspiration boards she is considering. It is great fun to see a talented mind at work!

One fun tidbit of information, before Sherry started interior design some twenty years ago, she was a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines! A woman of many talents….also love when she posts on one of her frequent and generous giveaways, or takes us along for a tour of a newly discovered home furnishings or antiques store, there is always something fabulous to see over at Design Indulgence. If you don’t know of Design Indulgence, you are in for a real treat. And for those of you who already count Sherry as a friend, here is a chance to get to know her a lot better. Her zest for life and humor shine through loud and clear…. Please do stop by and say hello. Sherry, it was a pleasure to feature you today, and I am loving you even more now that I feel like I know you a wee bit better.  And thank you all for stopping by. Sherry….take it away!!

Thanks Sherry for participating and click on header to visit Design Indulgence.

So..how did you end up blogging? Almost like I do everything in life….just fooling around one day and thought…”I think I will start a blog”….I had absolutely no flipping idea what I was doing 🙂  Really I still don’t.

A few things I love about Fall.…well duh…the weather!  Fall clothes….the new TV season…yes I love TV…sue me!  It just seems like after the hot summers that we have here in Atlanta…fall is a relief with it’s cooler temperatures.

You get to spend a month at the perfect beach house, will it be Malibu or Nantucket? I think I am going to have to go with Malibu….Just the weather, and maybe “star sightings”…driving up and down the Calif coast.

Two weeks first class, is it Paris or London? Paris baby….bread, butter, and wine.  Let’s face it Paris has better food.  Even a bad restaurant in Paris will have better food than I am used to!

If I were 18 again…. I would sit myself down and say…lighten up girl, these are truly great years!  Your skinny, you have no wrinkles, you hair is thick, life is one big party!  Have fu

What would be on your plate for you dream dinner and dessert?  Dream dinner…OK if there were no such thing as calories, then I would have to say spaghetti…with meatballs.  I LOVE Italian!  Bread with butter.  Desert would be hot peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream on it.

Tell us as little or as much as you want to about your family.  I am the oldest of 4 [2 sisters and a baby brother, we are all 2 years apart]  Born in San Antonio, Texas.  I am married to a commercial airline pilot and I have 2 step children [35 & 37] who I adore.  I am the owner of 2 rescued Old English Sheepdogs.  And they are a handful!

Worst habit? Best trait?  My worst habit would be that I am a big procrastinator…seriously sometimes I just can not get started on a project.  I would have to say my best trait is my humor.  I love to laugh and I can definitely make fun of  myself.

Favorite design trend?  Well…I am loving gallery walls.  I know they have been around forever, but it seems like there was a time when everything was hung in such order.  They can make a room so interesting and I love the fact that you can hang a poster next to an expensive oil.   Can I have 2????  I am also loving that a room does not have to be so matchy…….mixing fabrics and styles.

One  golden rule for decorating that you would pass on. My golden rule…edit…edit…edit.  Take everything out of the room…really.  Start from scratch….In this order, furniture, rugs, lamps, pillows, and then pictures and accessories.  Make sure you have some plastic bins around cause I am sure you will not put it all back in!

Designer Icon?…well I really like different designers for different reasons.  Modern/Mid century mix would have to be Angie Hranowsky.  Dreamy light colors, mostly traditional would have to be Mrs. Howard and Suzanne Kasler.  I am loving Amy D Morris’s work  right now.  So clean.

You get to have lunch with any two people in the entire world. Could be from Hollywood, a famous author,  a playwright, a rock star, cooking guru, religious leader, anyone…who are the lucky two?  Well…gotta say Oprah and Jon Bon Jovi.  I know…. sounds shallow.  I could say Gandhi or some other outstanding person, but I think Oprah is funny and Jon is cute.  There you have it.

My perfect day would start with….. coffee first and foremost!  A workout…and then maybe a visit to the spa for a massage.  .After that I love to walk around flea market and junk shops.  It is mindless entertainment for me.  The a wonderful dinner someplace yummy!

If we could only live in one season year round, which would you choose and why?   I am thinking spring.  I like fall, but I am partial to spring blooms how green everything is.

Describe your favorite outfit. My fav outfit is jeans and white shirts.  No thinking.  For casual it is white t shirts, silver hoop earrings, black belt and black ballet flats.  I do change it to black stretch pants and boots in the winter 🙂

Tell me about a dream vacation for you and your family. A dream vacation….We have rented a 60 ft catamaran in the BVI  12 times so far.  A cook and a captain…with 3 other couples.  It is the MOST relaxing vacation ever.  No phones, no TV and no internet.  Eating under the stars every night.  No makeup….just bathing suit, shorts and flip flops!

Favorite book or movie that you could read or watch over and over?  One of my all time favorite movies is Splendor in the Grass.  I LOVED Natalie Wood so much.  I have seen it a million times.  Also for a  comedy  Ace Ventura Pet Detective was hilarious to me.  I can still laugh just as much when I watch it as the first time.

3 qualities that I think fairly describe me are……Yikes….3 qualities that describe me…..I assume we are talking good qualities!  I have great empathy for people, humility, hard worker.

Comedy or dramas? Comedy all the way!!!!!  Nothing is better than laughter.

A book that I have read in the last few years that I really really loved. I read a book a couple of years ago called The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan.  I LOVED it and hope she will write another one.  I have also read For Whom The Bell Tolls a couple times…I keep picking more than one thing don’t I?????

In my next life I will……My next life I could be a writer.  You can make your own hours….not a lot of stuff to haul around, you can do it anywhere!

One thing I absolutely cannot live without is…..I can not live without my humor.  It keeps me from being too serious and I love when I can make people laugh.  But…can’t live without my husband either 🙂

If I have learned one thing in life it is……The best thing to learn is patience.  Don’t be in a hurry….everything happens in time……Oh yeah…take care of you teeth…seriously!

And now a recap of a few of the things Sherry loves……….

See what I mean? Doesn’t she sound amazing! I love what she said about why she would want to go to Paris (yes its all about those sinfully good delights) her dream vacations sounds like just that, a total dream! And of course her thoughts on laughter, what she would want to do in her next life and whats shes learned along the way….Amen to that Sherry!! Click here to visit Design Indulgence and be sure to poke around, yes, you will get caught up in the beauty and magic of her blog, but it will be oh so worth every minute spent there! And thank you all for stopping by! Wishing you a wonderful day.

Behind the blogger…meet Mary Ann from Classic Casual Home!

Good morning! How was everyones weekend? Hope wonderful! I had relatives visiting from out of town so went into NY, and had so much fun. Felt like I have been living under a rock for the last few years being knee deep in “house biz”! It was great to get out and do something totally unrelated to the house. Anyway,  so happy to be here with yet another fabulous and talented blogging friend, say hello to …..

Mary Ann from Classic Casual Home

Now the low down…..If Mary Ann wasn’t so nice, charming and down to earth it would be easy to be just a bit jealous. She lived in Paris with her family not to mention numerous other wonderful spots and now lives in Newport Beach, California. Two of my most favorite places on earth! She is so incredibly sweet and funny and self deprecating, qualities which  make her so likable. Then her blog….how fun it is! I love visiting because I know I will always love what I see. Whether she is showing her beautiful welcoming elegant home with French touches or featuring various bloggers in her popular pillow addict series, she always puts a fresh and appealing spin on whatever subject she might be talking about.  When she is not busy running her growing design business, which includes e-design, she loves skiing, cooking and hiking. I love that she stresses that when designing someones home, its important to her that they are proud of their space and feel comfortable in their newly designed home. Mary Ann’s blog is definitely one which must be one of my daily stops in blog land. One click over and you will see just what I mean. We hope to meet up one day and Mary Ann, you know whenever you come back to the East Coast I expect a call! Do visit Classic Casual Home if you are not already familiar with it…I promise you will be glad you did!

Click on header to visit Classic Casual Home and thank you Mary Ann for participating!

So how did you end up blogging?
A bit like you (on a much smaller scale), Tina, I wanted to highlight the changes we made to our home.  I was also hoping to gain some exposure for my decorating business, Chez Vous Home.  Fortunately, it has been helping quite a bit and it is FUN.
A few things I love about fall are………………..
My birthday is in October and I like to milk it for the whole month. Also, I love how our family gets together for Thanksgiving?always in different places, but we are together.
You get to spend a month at the perfect beach house, will it be Malibu or Nantucket?
Malibu is just about an hour away from where we live, so I would pick Nantucket.  I have never been there and I imagine?hydrangeas, woven baskets, clapboard cottages, wide porches, gourmet shops.  Am I right?

Two weeks first class all the way, is it London or Paris?
Paris, for sure (and First Class?ALL RIGHT!).  I first visited Paris with father on my 19th birthday (yeah, milked it).  I was studying abroad for a year in Vienna. I think that experience led me to be unafraid to live in new places.  Ten years ago, we lived in Paris for two years.  What a fabulous experience for our family!
If I was 18 again I would…….
Realize my parents were pretty smart after all.
What would be on your plate for your ultimate dream dinner and dessert?
My husband?s short ribs and gorgonzola polenta and a baby arugula salad with summer tomatoes and shaved parmesan.  For dessert, a dark chocolate and nut tart with fresh raspberries and whipped cream (a recipe I learned in Paris)?and since this is a dream, no calories.
Tell us as little or much as you want to about your family? Since we have moved several times (New York, Chicago, Orlando, Paris, Fort Lauderdale, California) for my husband?s work, our little family is very close.  Howard and I have been married for 26 years.  Our daughter, Alie is 23 (and fluent in French) just got promoted at an ad agency in NYC.  Tommy is 18 and a freshman (go Gators) in college.  I miss that guy!  We are empty (sob) nesters now. Loving Skype.
Worst habit? Best trait?
None!!! (Well, perhaps using too many exclamation points)! Best trait:  My husband would say I am polite.
Favorite design trend?
Mixing high and low materials.

One golden rule/advice for decorating that you would pass on…
It is just decorating, enjoy it!  Seriously, you make the rules.
And one more thing?if unsure, sleep on it.
Designer icon?
Parish/Hadley duo.  Always in style.
You get to have lunch with anyone in the entire world, could be from Hollywood, a famous author or playwright, a politician, rock star, a cooking guru, religious leader, anyone?who are the lucky two to sit at your table? Wow, Tina, amazing questions.  Making my brain hurt.  The possibilities ?can I get back to you when I narrow it down? Well she did get back to me and here is what she came up with (she just HAD to squeeze in 2 extra seats to make it 5)…..Oprah’s best friend, Gayle (she is so darn nice and probably knows where the good wine is), Mother Teresa (I would like to give her a hug), Julia Child (she would make the meal and tell us about it with a hearty laugh), Bob Hope( he would have us cracking up and I could thank him for  entertaining the troops while in danger), and Leonardo Da Vinci ( I would give him a stack of cocktail napkins and a pen to play with)

A perfect day would start with… room service wearing a nice hotel robe in a place I have never been before like Sicily, Bali, Australia, Argentina, Greece?and end with… learning something new.

If we could only live in one season year round, which would you choose and why?  Summer in southern California?by the beach?flip flops, warm sand and cool breezes.  No air conditioning needed.
Describe your favorite outfit.
Big smile and cotton Asian pajamas from Garnet Hill, bare feet. ?Washington Square? Bond Street perfume. (This comment will kill my fashionable, high-heeled friend, Netta).
Tell me about a dream vacation for you and your family… My whole family, including Howard, my mom, brothers, sisters, cousins, children, our dog, Rocky, oh, and throw in all our close friends (fly First Class, hard to go back after Paris) to Rome for a couple days and have tea with the Pope (that?s for you, Mom) and then rent villas in a hill town in Umbria where we eat pasta, drink wine, blast opera music, taste gelato in the square, walk everywhere and laugh at my husband speaking Italian with his hands.
Favorite movie or book that you could read or watch over and over?
My daughter, Alie and I have watched ?Pride and Prejudice? way too may times.  At Thanksgiving, it is always ?Planes, Trains and Automobiles? or ?My Cousin Vinny.?
3 qualities that I think fairly describe me are. Positive, friendly, resilient
Comedy or dramas?  Drama, unless I need a comedy.
A book that I have read in the last few years that I really really loved is….
was ?World Without End? by Ken Follet.  It is the sequel to ?The Pillars of the Earth? and although they were thick historical novels? I did not want either to end.

In my next life I will never think I was too fat.
If I have learned one thing in life, it is to be kind.  It?s true.

One thing I absolutely cannot live without is  Howard  ?too sappy? OK…air. Too serious? Then, Red Vines or Hot Tamales…..life would just not be worth living.

And just a recap on what Mary Ann loves….

Now do you see what all the fuss is about? Isnt’ she great? I love someone with a sense of humor…..someone after my own heart. When she described her ideal vacation I knew we were meant to be friends, we could stand atop the Tuscan mountain tops and belt out opera together, wine glass in hands with our families looking aghast in the background…lol. THEN when I read about her love for red vines and hot tamales, I knew it was fate! Yes, those are a regular indulgence of mine too…loved them both ever since I was a kid. Some things you are never too old for, right Mary Ann? Anyway hope you enjoyed this as much as I did…please stop by and say hello to Mary Ann, click here to visit. Thanks again for stopping by!! Have an enchanting day!

Behind the blogger…meet Jennifer from Belclaire House!

Good morning, so happy to be here with yet another fabulous blogger, say hello to
Jennifer from Belclaire House

Jennifer is a newer blogger but what she lacks in months blogging she more than makes up for with her very discerning eye, beautiful taste and a funny spin on every day experiences. (Did I mention she bears an uncanny resemblance to Elle McPherson, yea that ugly duckling..haha) She is a young mother who has a lot of wisdom and design sense. We have many similarities….when I read her interview, I kept laughing to myself at how much we have in common, a big one being our undying devotion to all things blue and white. Then you throw in her sense of humor which I so “get”, her love for Starbucks anything, spaghetti (practically my middle name), The Notebook being one of her favorite movies, loving all movies with a pretty house and her design icons.

Jennifer has a truly beautiful take on everyday things and if you aren’t already with her fabulous blog, do hope you will stop by and say hello. She also regularly posts things from her mother  who is affectionately known as “The Suze”…and you see where she gets her fine taste from! Her blog is one of the handful where I know I will truly love whatever she has posted. I can nearly assure you that you too will want to make it daily habit as it is mine. Thank you Jennifer!

So……. what inspired you to start blogging in the first place?
I’ve been reading design blogs FOREVER (they got me through law school), and I was always saving images and sending them to my mom.  It occurred to me that my mom might like to read a blog with lots of blue and white and other pretty images so I started Belclaire House to share with her.  We have all of our favorite images in one place now.

How did you come up with your blog name?
My best friend grew up in a house on Belclaire in Dallas, and it was the first place I started noticing interiors and design. Her mom has wonderful taste and their house continues to serve as a source of inspiration for me.  Also, the name Belclaire just sounds pretty.

Do you have a favorite all time movie?
I pretty much only like movies set in pretty locations.  I could watch The Notebook over and over and over.  It’s the perfect movie, pretty houses (one’s even blue and white), pretty scenery, pretty people and a beautiful love story.  I also watched Marie-Antoinette at least once a week last summer, I was obsessed.

You get to spend a month in the European  countryside…..is it Italy or France?
I do?? That’s awesome!! I’m going to flip a coin because there’s no possible way I can make that call.  Heads is France. Tails is Italy.  … It was Heads! Looks like I’m going to France for a month! (I may sneak over to Italy for a few nights…shhh)

Favorite meal?
Spaghetti (hmm maybe I should go to Italy)

Tell us as little or as much as you want to about your family.
I’m married to an adorable man named Kip whom I met in law school at a Halloween party – he was a Ninja Turtle and I was pregnant Britney Spears.  He was instantly attracted to the bag of Cheetos I carried around as well as the fake baby bump. We’ve been married two wonderful years and have an active little boy named Edward who will be 1 in September.

If you could have any career what would it be?
Pop Star/Interior Designer

Favorite design style?
Right now I’m really drawn to very traditional, but not fussy rooms. I currently live in a sea of baby toys and burp clothes and safety gear, and while I’m certainly cherishing these precious moments of chaos, I find myself gravitating toward clean, white simple rooms.

If you could only live in one color what would it be?
Blue & White! (It’s technically one color)

Favorite season and why?
Fall. It’s the most beautiful time of year in Missouri, the weather is perfect and the trees are gorgeous.  Also, I love football (especially the Missouri Tigers) and Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks, which you can only get in the fall.

Design icon?
So many! I’m learning about new (to me) designers everyday on my blog.  I feel like I could learn a lot from Charlotte Moss.  Her rooms are always so inviting. She has amazingly high expectations when it comes to quality of living.  I’ve been in a house she designed and her attention to detail is impeccable (for instance, you won’t “see” a plug anywhere and if, say, the power should go out, you will use lots of beautiful candle lit lanterns as opposed to unsightly flashlights). She’s fabulous.

One place you haven’t been that you want to visit-
I keep hearing Interlaken, Switzerland is stunningly gorgeous.  I would love to go there.  I also get travel ideas from watching The Bachelorette (don’t judge) so now I’m on a Thailand kick.

What’s your number one pet peeve?
I don’t get annoyed very easily. However, it drives me bananas when intelligent people say “expecially” or “supposably” or “alls I was saying.” I start to develop a tick when I hear that kind of language from otherwise well-spoken people.

What are the two best things about blogging?
Meeting people who love the same things as I do and having something that is entirely mine.

You get to have a private dinner with any two people in the world, they can be from the fashion, design world, literary world, Hollywood, politics, etc….your choice. Who are the lucky two? OK, don’t judge, but I don’t want to be fake.  Paula Deen and Jessica Simpson.  They are both silly like me, but also two incredibly successful Southern ladies.  I could ask them lots of questions, but I don’t have to feel intimidated when I inevitably drink too much champagne and say something wildly innapropriate. We’re all really good friends in my head.

Do you have a favorite saying or quote?
“Don’t cry over something that can’t cry over you” and “The secret to happiness? Be Satisfied. Be Grateful.” – Mitch Albom. These are particularly good for someone like me who covets things all day long on my blog. It helps me check myself before I wreck myself (words of wisdom from the great Ice Cube circa 1993)

Most overrated trend right now?
DIY – only because I never actually do it myself.  I have the best intentions, but then I get distracted by something shiny and pretty and whatever creative craft I dreamed up falls by the wayside.  I actually did a lot of painting and putting things together in my son’s nursery, but I chalk that up to the whole nesting thing.  I sort of blacked out and woke up with striped walls and pretty painted furniture.  It was weird.

Reading anything interesting that you want to share?
I just read Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and it was the best book I’ve ever read.  It’s not my normal genre of book (it’s a WWII story), but it was incredible. I harass everyone I know trying to get them to read it.

You are 18 again. What do you do?
Go on a mission trip somewhere. I thought I knew everything at 18 and I think a trip outside of my comfort zone would have brought a lot more clarity and perspective going into college.

What are your plans for the summer?
I’m really looking forward to my best friend’s wedding in Aspen at the end of August.

In ten years I will be.………………. rich and skinny? Just kidding, err, kind of. Hopefully, still blogging and maybe working on my own dream home or helping other people with theirs.

If you could live anywhere on earth and money was no object where would you go? I wouldn’t want to be too far from my family and friends, but I’d definitely want to live on the beach so probably Sea Island, GA. We’ve been going there in the summers for so long that it feels like a second home to me. I would have a big fabulous house so that everyone could come visit me, blog friends included of course.

Best tip or two for any new bloggers reading this……. I’m relatively new so I’m always seeking tips, but I’d say lots of pretty pictures.  I don’t always have time to read so it’s OK to have nothing to say and a bunch of random but pretty images.  I’ll get it.

Blogging to me is design school and good times.

Give me four words that describe your personality.

Bubbly, silly, easy-going, happy (I had to ask my husband for these, he tried to say expensive-taste, which I rejected)

And finally a recap of all the things Jennifer loves…..

Isn’t she great? Love how she is honest, fun and puts a humorous spin on things. Laughter really is the best medicine. Jennifer, when you have your lunchdate with Britney, please ask her what possessed her to shave her head and tell her we all like her much better with her blonde hair!
Hope you will stop by and explore her blog a bit, she has some really fabulous posts, click here to visit….thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!

I just found that sweet Mon from the beautiful blog of Splendid Willow was so amazingly kind to have posted a beautiful post today on the building of my home. Thank you so much Mon! I had no idea and am so touched! Please visit her wonderful blog, click here.
