Designer Spotlight: Palm Design Group

Hi everyone……things are moving along, just super busy as you can imagine trying to settle in and get somewhat organized, feel like we are just scratching the surface. Tomorrow next round of personal belongings arrive, so it will mean another frantic round of unpacking, organizing, sorting,etc…..but I hope to do a small updates post in the next few days, I promise! Here is a post I worked on in advance and I still have a few more amazing guest posts coming your way….
Hi there! I found the Palm Design group by accident looking through a design magazine in our hotel, The Phoenician (which I highly recommend by the way) while in Scottsdale a few years ago. I was immediately taken and smitten over their knack for creating beautiful rooms that combine American sensibility with the trace of a European feel. Their spaces are light and airy, inviting, classic and above all else supremely elegant.
?I was intrigued and suddenly started to see more of their work ?published which is very understandable. After looking at their portfolio, I realized their entire body of work is quite spectacular. Based in Arizona, this firm has officially won me over. What I love about their rooms, is that they feel like they could have been there for years (my favorite kind of space) and are really timelessly elegant. The interiors are simple and very classic, not fussy, overdone or too formal. I love the vibe that that seem to create time and time again. Clearly this is a very talented group over there. Take a look and see what you think about their look. Enjoy……

Love this bath, the perfect balance of rustic elegance and coziness
Amazing how something so simple can be so beautiful
Love these chairs?flanking the gorgeous stone fireplace
This backyard is dreamy……..love everything about it!
Ahhhh…something about a white bathroom and how gorgeous is this settee?
Love the colors in this room, the light is just fantasy like.
Great looking space, with its vast size, high ceilings, this is one dramatic room
Wow…just wow!
I want this!
The light colors do it for every time…..makes it so inviting
Gorgeous kitchen with the old hand molded brick floor, stunning!
Love lanterns and they apparently do too!
Arent’ these colors so soothing for a bedroom? Love the washed floors…..
How gorgeous are these rooms? ?Do you have a favorite? What do you think about this particular design style? Would love to know which and what you think about the cool soft palette they tend to use. To me, its a winning combination all the way. I especially love all those washed woods mixed in with the rich blues. And those outdoor spaces, so glamorous and beautiful! Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

A penchant for pendants

Good morning….about the house update. We are nearly completely sheet rocked so the fun has just begun. Trimwork started yesterday and the bathrooms are underway…finally getting to the stage where we get to look at the pretty things! I have had enough of raw wood, sawdust, and unfinished spaces to last me a lifetime, its time to button this baby up! I took pictures yesterday and will post them on my post tomorrow.

Show me a room that has a pendant lighting that isn’t beautiful. I love them…… they add elegance, soft lighting and a certain sense of proportion to a room. Used everywhere from foyers, to bathrooms and kitchens, you see them in outdoor spaces too. I love pendant lighting for their versatility. In my old house, I had them in my hallway, my foyer, above the staircase and in my breakfast room. I plan to use them once again in abundance in the new house. So today I showcase all the many wonderful ways to use this wonderful lighting. I am contemplating what kind of lighting to use over my center island in the kitchen since logically speaking, this will be and has to be one of the first rooms to complete. I like the idea of a belljar pendant or a large lantern type pendant. The best part? So many manufacturers make them, that they are very affordable and can be had inexpensively…..you don’t need to spend a fortune to get the look, that’s always a big perk! What do you think?

(I am also announcing an amazing giveaway on Friday…stay tuned)

Nirvana in Napa

Good morning! A lot of you have asked about the house….going today to take some update pictures and will update and share tomorrow. Ever since I saw the remake of The Parent Trap, shot in Napa Valley and featuring the then innocent and adorable, Lindsay Lohan, I have been in love with Napa Valley and all things having to do with wine country. ?Looking back that is probably where my desire to live there one day started. I admit I fantasize about living there one day, buying a small farm/vineyard, having my own “farm to table” movement restaurant right in the middle of the vineyard and leading “the life” that I envision is all about Napa laid back living. The crisp mornings with the dew still on the grapes gives way to perfect blue skies, low humidity bright sunny days, and chilly, cricket chirping nights…..whats not to love??

Being surrounded by vineyards, both small boutique ones and larger commercial ones, the topography of the land is breathtaking. I was lucky enough to be there last year and absolutely cannot wait to get back. ?Surrounded by a cultured community that is not driven by money, the make and model of your car, how prestigious yours kids school is or what club you belong to, things there are less complicated. ?At least in my mind, life there is simpler, a throwback to how things used to be. Then you throw in oodles of amazing restaurants run by renowned celebrity chefs, chic roadside gourmet grocers and you have what I ?would venture to say is a near perfect setup. In my own sometimes overactive imagination I will never lose sight of this “picture” of how it must be to live in Napa and Sonoma valley.

?Even if Napa and Sonoma?have fallen prey to all the vanities and trappings of their more suburban counterparts, I don’t want to hear about it. I have always, as a result of this fascination been drawn to the homes, interiors and lifestyles of those that are lucky enough to reside there. So today I pay tribute to the Napa lifestyle. Here are some exquisite homes and interiors from homes in wine country. Let me set the tone…its a perfectly crisp, zero humidity day, and its later afternoon with the sun just starting to set and give way to a starry filled night….. I can almost feel the breeze, hear the jazz band playing at the local vineyard, and smell the aromatic scent of fresh grapes getting crushed for the next seasons harvest.

?Hope you enjoyed it…..I so enjoyed putting it together and cannot wait to go back to this incredible place. Its bad enough I have already told??asked my three boys that one of them has to ?should consider getting married there one day! Hope you have an enchanting day!

Beach house chic

Who wouldn’t love a cozy beach house right by the sea or a charming lake house with views to rival the setting from “On Golden Pond”. I know I fantasize about one day buying a small place by the ocean and know exactly how I want it to be decorated. It would first have to be welcoming, inviting and calming…after all its a getaway and the whole idea is about entering a new space, a true oasis away from the rat race. It would have a soft and light palette, with pops of color in some rooms but overall a soothing and light neutral feeling is what I envision.

?It would have to have a killer kitchen, not a huge one but one big enough for clambakes and preparing dozens of bbqs and hosting smores parties,etc…..you get the picture. And then the views…ah, the views, very important. It just has to have that “welcome home” feel that I think is the hallmark of a successful interior/home. So what about you? If you had or if you have a beach/lake house…..what makes it so wonderful? What would you do to it? Here are some inspirational beach/lake house interiors…that made me wish for one sooner than later. What is it about bunk bedding like this that is so inviting? Love it and its so practical for a coastal/vacation house since you know you will always have guests! Coastal Living
A perfect place to infuse some fun coral color…. a coastal bedroom! Coastal Living
So are you ready? Does this excite you as much as it does me? Would love to know and of course if you have a favorite! Hope you have an enchanting day!

Sunday showhouse…….and you’re invited!

Just a short and very important note, then my post follows……

I know in ?the tristate area, many of you have heard the tragic story about the beautiful couple with an 18 month old who have within 2 weeks of each other, unbelievably been diagnosed with late stages of cancer. I had a hard time hearing it, feeling powerless and heart broken for what seems like the unimaginable. ?Then yesterday, I got a phone call from a good friend whose family is best friends with this couple and their family! She asked if she could send me their blog (started well before either got sick) and initially a blog to talk about their blissful life and the joys of raising a young baby. There is also a website created by family and friends, to raise money for them, since they are both knee deep in treatment and both far too ill to work. Elisa has been diagnosed with late stage 4 breast cancer and Nathan with stage 3 rectal cancer. Talk about putting my little problems and complaints in perspective. So below is the link to their blog as well as the link to the website that’s been set up. I hope you will take a few minutes (I got so absorbed in it, I spent nearly 45 minutes reading through it) and say a prayer for them both and their beautiful little family.?

Thank you. I normally would not use a frivolous blog that discusses paint color and interior design musings for something this serious unless it really touched me and suffice to say, it has.

Happy Sunday….. Its a day to relax, sit back and enjoy……and a day for my Sunday “house tour”. Today we are staying along the Atlantic seaboard and traveling up and down the Northeast coast….. fabled location to many a quaint, charming and did I mention expensive coastal resort towns!

We are going to visit three ultimate dreamy beach houses….one on Nantucket, one in Bar Harbour, Maine and then finally down to Southampoton, NY. Each one, so beautifully done and built in the most picturesque settings with?jaw droppingly beautiful views, decorated with being on the coast in mind. Though each is graceful and elegant, there is a laid back, very inviting appeal to each. So take a look, have fun and do let me know if you have a favorite and why!

NANTUCKET, MASSACHUSETTS. You arrive via ferry on a perfect summer day and are whisked off to your new oceanfront vacation house for the summer. Hope this fabulous home is up to your standards and hope you ?will be able to adjust having to stare out at those views that go on for miles..not easy, but someones gotta do it! Definitely a great entertaining home, filled with lots of elegant but inviting furnishings. Love the bright sunlit rooms that take advantage of the incredible views from every window, and the pools not too bad either:)

?BAR HARBOR, MAINE. Then we are off to another fabulous home, this one located in tony Bar Harbor, Maine the famous bastion of old money and understated elegance. None other than our beloved Bunny Williams decorated this stately and fabulously elegant home. I could live in that dining room alone…..the views and setting are almost hypnotizing. Think I might enjoy spending the summer holed up in this “beach cottage”…what do you think?

SOUTHAMPTON, NEW YORK. Last, If you need to travel to yet one more fabulous beach playground, then why not try Southampton? No stranger to fabulously grand homes, this one does not disappoint. Built and inspired by the grand coastal homes of yesteryear, quality was not spared in this large incredible family home, built for generations to enjoy. Large scaled comfortable and inviting rooms are decorated in a sophisticated but coastal style….with the views from that bedroom, I might never leave!

Are you ready to go? ?I am! I could be happy spending a summer??lifetime in any one of these!?You know I love to know if you have a favorite and why….do tell! ?Hope you enjoy a wonderful and enchanting Sunday.
