Things I am loving Thursday and house updates!!

Good morning everyone! ?I am hereby announcing that ?I am officially in a “frenzied state of mind”. Actually I realized recently ?blogging is one of the truly sane calming peaceful things in my life…some people go and get a massage or go to a spa for a few days or even see a shrink regularly. My “therapy” and daily retreat is blogland. All I can say about being able to get away a little bit everyday and visit blogland is……thank the Lord for it! Anyone else with me on this??

We are slowly starting to pack up a bit here in the house in hopes of moving soon as in the next few weeks or month. It couldn’t be happening at a crazier time of year, of course. Nooooooo.it could never happen when we have absolutely nothing going on, when there is calm in the universe and we have nothing but time. It has to be the month of my birthday, two weddings, Christmas, our annual family Christmas party, other holiday parties, birthdays of my sister and friends, and so much more. I am getting tired just writing it down.

?That said, we are 50/50 now in terms of getting in before Christmas. I am so exhausted physically and mentally, as is my husband, that I cannot fight it anymore, try as I might. So if we end up staying here a few extra weeks and move right after the Christmas break…so be it. That’s my new attitude. Yea lets see how long it lasts! But, it will get done..it always does. So lets begin!

I had fun taking some pictures with my IPhone the other morning when I took Teddy for a walk when the light was just so beautiful…..and of course I love taking snaps of Teddy, he is such a little star but so humble about his star power:)?

The picture below I took while walking with Teddy and then I “antiqued it”, love the effect

HOUSE UPDATES. Well, things ARE moving along, how long have I been saying that! I am even tired of typing it..but truly things are shaping up. Right now they are concentrating on finishing the back stair hall stain and lime treatment which has taken many weeks as its a multi stage process, as soon as they are done, then we can finally start cleaning up that whole end of the house!! Its filthy, there must be a good 1/2 inch of dust caked all over the kitchen. I just cannot wait to furiously start ripping off all the paper and cardboard covering everything! After over three years of this…its gotten old. So, fingers crossed we are inching our way to the finish line. In all honesty there isn’t a tremendous amount of progress to show since everything is covered up but in reality much has been done. Here’s a sneak peak at some of what has happened this week. There are literally maybe 50 guys working every day these days, so I know they are doing their dardnest to get this house completed, but some things cannot be rushed as I am learning 🙁

They just finished the ceiling of the porte cochere, no worries about the light bulb, we DO plan on replacing it:)

Dining floors almost done!

Living room…..getting there!!

Family room, ?now we are just waiting on the mantle!!
Back stair hall getting final coat, then we are done there….yeah!!!!

Decided to keep the island, they put on the base and I like it better now and with drawers and hardware, I think it will be fine..will place a small French chair in there somewhere

Love the detailing above the window!

Bathroom is now starting to get painted, finally!

Garage doors finally got put on….its dark but you get the idea! They look great…..

SUBWAY TILES I finally after much hemming and hawing took the plunge and ordered the Calcutta gold subway tiles and went with my gut which was for the oversized jumbo brick, felt the smaller size would be too small and busy, so feel good about having gone with the bigger size. Here is a sample of the beauty I am soon to receive! Alan, the supplier I bought it from was unbelievably nice (and patient) and allowed me to pick and choose my tiles…isn’t that incredibly nice! So some of these I discarded to be sure to match up the countertops.?
A LITTLE SWEET SOMETHING.You know I always have to throw in something food related and why not make it something really good. Sorry, but some things are just too good to stay mum about! Well….got sent a basket from River Street Sweets and my heart skipped a beat, I remember I saw them profiled on the food network and suddenly here they are at my doorstep just waiting to be enjoyed. And I so happily obliged, I mean after all it is the holidays, the month of my birthday and of my anniversary…..all a time to be happy and joyful right? “Delectable, savory good, mouth watering fit for a king” is the only way to sum up these heavenly treats. Chocolate and caramel like the stuff dreams are made of…I kid you not! Here is a sampling of what they are famous for, everything from fudge to their world famous pralines! Believe they are based in Atlanta but have stores throughout the south. Click here to visit if you dare.?

SOME GREAT GIFTS. OK lets get away from food quick, I am getting a sweet tooth again! With Christmas and the holidays being on everyoneshere to visit the monogram shop at Pottery Barn. They are looking good. Real good.
A monogrammed throw for around $30!! Who doesn’t need an extra throw to place over a sofa or chair?
How gorgeous are these hurricanes? Love the monogrammed etching, and anyone could use them in their home. I spoke yesterday at Haus design about how much I love using hurricanes.
I think everyone would be delighted to receive a beautiful gift box of soaps bearing their initials!
How about this elegant footed bowl? I will put paperwhites in it, and wrap it up….I would be tickled pink to receive this!
They make this monogrammed pillow covers for 35.00. Amazing!
And finally the results of this weeks which would you choose…I have to admit I was hard pressed to pick a fave but was torn between the elegant mountain retreat and the genteel farm. Apparently many of you have an inner cowgirl in them as do I because that was the clear favorite, but lets face it getting away to any of these would be a total treat!

Things I am loving Fridays…and house updates!!

Good morning!?Back and ready for anything. Feel recharged after a few days at the beach and I am ready to take on the big job that lies ahead to meet our inspection date on Aug.22nd. I cannot say enough how completely restorative and therapeutic being by the ocean is. I stayed in a beautiful home which certainly helps but being right next to the ocean, having natures lullaby, the oceans waves putting me easily to sleep and waking up to the glistening Atlantic ?is just incredible. It feels so natural to me too ?(I did spend much of my childhood in California and Hawaii). It was very timely as ?the stress level has been off the charts for me, so this was really what the doctor ordered!

On a side note, can you?imagine my delight, and sheer excitement over signing into Feedburner and discovering that I have 1002 subscribers! HOLY MOLY…how did that happen? I remember jumping over the moon when I reached 10, then it was 100 and dare I wish for that great big triple digit number of 500? But 1000? Seriously? I am humbled beyond words and so delighted that there are 1000 people in this great vast world of ours that think highly enough of me and my blog to want to get my daily updates and posts. This I promise my friends, will keep my adrenaline going for some time now and I will work hard to keep delivering!! Many thanks!!

Now onto the lucky winners of Phyllis Hoffman’s exquisite books Gracious Table and Gracious Spaces, congratulations to:

Winners (2)

Please contact me via email so that I can get your mailing info and get these right out to you..enjoy!

Now onto what I am loving this week and house updates. First we start with?the house and whats happened this week, I got there at dusk so had limited light but think most of the pictures are fairly clear. I will be sure to include some beach photos in the coming days, as some of them are just so pretty and worth sharing!

HOUSE UPDATES. Kitchen is starting to really shape up, its really looking like an official kitchen! The island came and was humorously referred to by some of the guys working in the house as the “continent” not the island, its really long 12 feet long…but is in proportion with the kitchen, and I love love love the black. The boxes have been in and slowly they have been working hard to add the many “layers” that make the kitchen beautiful, all the little moldings, tow kicks, dental moldings, etc…we should be done in about a week or so. Its a long process to install a kitchen. Gutters getting installed, I have finally included some pictures of both the front facade and the back, as many have requested because though not totally done, it is getting there, the main part we are still missing is the limestone front door surround and the front door but other than that’s its pretty much complete, also we have a wrought iron balcony going on the top right window. Floors continue to get done, back stair is done, staining on all the woodworking has officially started so clearly much is happening. Think the pictures will do a better job at illustrating……

Starting to really look like a house! Courtyard is getting put in….
Side entrance from basement side finished!
Gutters started getting put in, they are lead coated copper
Powder room floor
Back hall railing done…..yippee!!
Love way it came out
Powder room, partially covered but you get the idea
It was getting dark, but the island is in! So excited to see it come together

Family room done except for fireplace which we are waiting for and staining of wood
Breakfast room, is in process of getting stained
First base coat of stain then they start adding the “lime” effect then the glaze and a final coat
Looking into kitchen from family room

My vanity came in (the base) it has to still be painted this is just a primer
Tub surround (first part getting installed)
Shower surround love the marble molding that frames the shower door
Husbands vanity came in, love it…still has to get stained this is just in it natural state

Living room floors are done but just waiting for stain

Gutters being put in all over the house

Those little details on each side of the dormer got done

Finally the back of the house is pretty much done except for the finials on the roof

Now we await the stone surround for the front and wrought iron above it but getting there!

FIGS. Something simple, cheap, accessible (now is?the season) and oh soooo good!! I love figs and would love to eventually plant a fig tree, it would be like the gift that keeps on giving. I love them fresh from the farm stand and I also love a salad I discovered last year and make often, it is THAT good….then had this incredible brie with figs and almonds that was so amazingly delicious, so if either of these sound appealing….you might want to give them a whirl!

CALACUTTA GOLD MARBLE. I am so in love with this marble but have gone through serious sticker shock in the last few weeks. I have traipsed the tri state area, with a good friend also looking for great looking Calacutta gold slabs, when we finally found it, we were tickled pink! Then when I proceeded to open the email with the estimate, and the supplier starts with?and I quote “hope you are sitting down so as not to hit your head when you faint’. Need I say more?

There is plenty out there but the really good stuff is at a crazy premium, its all about supply and demand and unfortunately there is not a lot of really great looking premium slabs. The ones that I found that I really love are below. Anyone want to give me my marble countertops for a housewarming gift? LOL………

CHELSEA TEXTILES. Love this company’s gorgeous traditional fabrics and some of?their Gustavian furniture is over the top beautiful. I love the elegant old world feel of their fabrics, which are recreated from original English and French 17th, 18th and 20th century designs that are embroidered on natural linen fabric. and could easily find a spot in my home for these bench’s, small chests, and tables. What do you think? Click here to visit their website.
Really love this bench!

Great chair for a sitting room in a master

I love this for the end of a bed

So thats what I am loving this week…..how about you? What is exciting you? Discover anything you want to share? Would love to know! Wishing you a fabulous Friday and a great start to the weekend!

OK onto things I am loving this Thursday………(besides those gorgeous lamps up there)

MARBLE. I have not made it a secret how obsessed I am with white marble. It adds instant panache to any room, kitchen or bath. Nothing is as luxurious and gorgeously timeless as white?marble in my humble opinion. My personal favorite is Calacutta Gold, which has both the gray and the pale gold veining running through its white slab. Then there are about six different Calacutta gold varieties…does the decision making ever get easy? So below are a few examples..how beautiful are they? They each have their own personality for sure… Do you like the heavier or darker veining more than the lighter? Do you like it with more gold or less? Love to know what all you experts think!

LIGHTING. I have been looking at a lot of lighting lately as well. Right now we are just trying to make decisions on the absolute essentials, some sconces for the bathrooms, the hallways, and the exterior lighting. I have found some beautiful things….here are some of my top picks this week, too many gorgeous things to narrow it down..have a favorite?

SOME OUTDOOR LIGHTING

.

SCONCES AND LANTERNS FOR HALLWAYS AND KITCHEN LIGHTING

MAGAZINES.My definite cheap thrill of the week, Southern Accents. My absolute favorite magazine, which I know many of you coveted as well. Sadly, it ?is no more so I greatly enjoy with new fervor going through my old issues and have actually been buying more online. Ironically many things I love now can be found in issues, 10 and 12 years ago! Goes to prove that classic interiors never ever go out of style. I just bought a lot of 22 issues….and am having a field day, ripping things out fast and furious…the papers are flying! To me, there is just nothing that compares to the consistent fabulous elegant traditional interiors that graced Southern Accents every issue…its sorely missed. This was my cheapest thrill yet all week!

WALLPAPER AND PAINT. As I start to seriously scour the showrooms for wallpaper and paint inspirations my wish list continues to grow. I found more wonderful wallpaper and really like the new paint colors by Stark. I spoke with the showroom manager who just painted several rooms in her house with Stark paint and she said she could not believe how beautifully it went on with just a single coat, that there was virtually no smell and it went on so much easier than another brand that shall remain nameless but one well know quite well. Some of their colors are just gorgeous. So here are my weekly wallpaper inspirations and a few of the paint colors i really like.?

This is going to the library powder room, am having a custom floor of a gold marble with brown and rust accents to match….when I get sample will post, its going to be tres jolie!

I just thought this is so pretty for a ladies bathroom…very soft powdery pale gray/blue/green

This is a classic from Stark, also great for a dressing area or ladies bathroom

BLACK ISLANDS. OK, if you have been coming here for any length of time you know by now that I have a “thing” for black cabinetry. So I have been obsessing over just the right black with just the right shine, etc….thankfully there are oodles and oodles of online inspiration and forget about the massive mounting towering collection of magazines and books that is taking over my side of the bed….all in the pursuit of good design! So here are a few “black inspirations”, its easy to see why I am so drawn to it right? So elegant and old world……

MARBLE TILES. I have been very busy planning out the bathrooms….and finally am somewhat breathing a sigh of relief having picked out most of what we are doing. I have spoken often of how much I love New Ravenna’s line, they truly in my humble opinion produce some of the most spectacular marble flooring I have ever seen..the sky is the limit, I am amazed by what they can do. I am going with more subdued looks in both color and pattern compared to what they are capable of doing….but they are scrumptious nonetheless. Take a look…..

My bathroom tile
A gorgeous border

Thinking of this as a border

Love this..what a work of art!
BLUE AND WHITE. Love blue and white and nothing beats walking into a crisp room done in all navy and white. I want to have a room solely in blue and white, so am thinking a guest room. Here are some inspirations…Mom and Dad hope you approve! I know they will because my very talented mother has a spectacular blue and white guest room herself that is exquisite, will have to include a picture here one day…its that pretty. Don’t you agree…there is something so elegantly understated and classic about a room done in navy and white.

CHIPPENDALE MIRROR. What is more stately and regal looking than a Chippendale mirror The one pictured happens to be an antique, but I would like to buy one,new or old and have it in the main hallway off the foyer under a beautiful chest. That way its in a highly visible place for all to see….they are beautiful and so elegant.
AN AMAZING MOVIE. Who doesn’t like a great captivating, sit on the edge of your seats movie? Well, look no more..if you have even a tiny little droplet of interest in art, you will be completely taken with this documentary that is based upon the story of eccentric Dr.Alfred Barnes and his astonishing billion dollar art collection known to be the most valuable in the entire world, that he acquired at a time when the art he was collecting?was not coveted as it was today. He was a true visionary in every sense. This story reveals the outrageous and stomach turning events on how the highest political, social and cultural establishments worked in a tangled greedy corrupt web to take it away and call their own. I promise you this is one amazing story…I have seen it four times and counting. Its THAT good. Netflix now carries it….anything that made me immediately look up when the next demonstration was in Philadelphia to see if I could be a part of it, you know it has to be powerful ( Case in point….I have never participated in a demonstration in my life, ?but would make an exception for this)
?
Well, folks that’s about it for today. Gives me enough to smile about. Hope you have an enchanting day…and do share if any thing here struck a chord with you or if there is something that you’re particularly excited about this week!

MARBLE. I have not made it a secret how obsessed I am with white marble. It adds instant panache to any room, kitchen or bath. Nothing is as luxurious and gorgeously timeless as white marble in my humble opinion.

SCONCES AND LANTERNS FOR HALLWAYS AND KITCHEN LIGHTING

MAGAZINES.My definite cheap thrill of the week, Southern Accents. My absolute favorite magazine, which I know many of you coveted as well. Sadly, it  is no more so I greatly enjoy with new fervor going through my old issues and have actually been buying more online.

So here are my weekly wallpaper inspirations and a few of the paint colors i really like.

What is more stately and regal looking than a Chippendale mirror The one pictured happens to be an antique, but I would like to buy one,new or old and have it in the main hallway off the foyer under a beautiful chest.
