Accentuating with accesorries…..and a grand giveaway!

Hello there! Hope you had a great weekend, ours was relaxing and incredibly cold. Let’s face it, accessories are practically one the most important ingredients of a room. Sure you need sofas and chairs, but the accessories are what really gives a room it’s personality, that vibe. I love accessories (obviously) since my online shop is practically all accessories! It’s a surefire way to change up a look, whether you are adding, layering or taking away….its a fast, “instant gratification kind of a way” to transform a space. If you imagine a room without any accessories, it would look rather bleak and incredibly boring. Yes, we definitely need them!

I love “playing” and often do in my own home. Constantly tweaking, adding a few books, maybe a pair of Staffordhsire dogs, it is a constant (but fun) game of experimenting until you get it just right. I hope if you are stumped with how to style a spot in your own home, you might just get some great ideas and inspiration here! I think there’s something for everyone. And chances are you don’t? need to run out and buy anything, it’s probably around and you just don’t know it yet! I get especially excited when I can “reinvent” something I already have in my home (often).

So today a look at some beautiful ways to display accessories and then at the end a wonderful giveaway opportunity courtesy of the ever so lovely Bonnie Neiman of Bonnie Neiman Antiques who has an online shop just dripping with the most beautiful antiques, and best part is her prices are fabulous AND she ships all over the country! Her giveaway is so beautiful, I just know you are going to love it! Ready to begin…..

Love the idea of a large silver bowl filled with shells and coral….very very pretty and fresh. Belle Maison

??????????????
Never underestimate the power of a pair of tall topiaries, they add such drama to this gorgeous console! Bunny Williams

Love the idea of adding a small vignette on a kitchen counter top…..makes it so charming! Add a big bowl with some fruits or veges, a small lamp, a few books….love it! SFgate

So….what do you think? Do you have a “formula” for how you like to use accessories or are you like me and always experimenting? Clearly there is no wrong or right way to do it….it’s all about experimenting and this post has me in the mood to do some tweaking of my own today!

?If there is one thing to take away from the post, it’s that you won’t know until you try….so have fun don’t be afraid to switch it up! Having just, as of yesterday taken down the last of our Christmas decor, it’s feeling a little sparse, think its time to play 🙂

Mid week musings……..

?Good morning to you. Well first things first….very happy to announce a lucky winner of the pair of blue and white plates. Congratulations goes to…..

Result:? 33?? Scribbler July 11, 2013 at 10:21 AM?

All your things are beautiful so it would be hard to choose a favorite! I would have to say for RIGHT NOW that I would love the bathroom set because I am getting ready to redo one of my baths. The plates are just really gorgeous too.

As with all my random musings post…this one is a bit of this and a bit of that. I loved hearing your take on the white dresses yesterday. Many of you loved my personal fave too, #3 though for the event tomorrow night its way too dressy, it is the kind of dress I would love to own and have in my closet, it feels like a throwback to elegant timeless Audrey Hepburn but there were so many I loved. If you missed the post click here, and weigh in on your favorite. Let’s get started, shall we?

Very picture heavy….don’t say I didn’t warn you!

One Kings Lane. Admittedly I have grown a little skeptical of this site. I used to love it but my last three orders either came in damaged or were of inferior quality…so that was a huge disappointment. One was pillows that were so cheaply made I ended up giving them away, two broken ice buckets and dishes that came in that looked beautiful online but were really horrible in person. So though I still like to occasionally look I am have been leary about ordering any more. However I would have soooooo made an exception for both of these items…….both sold out!!!! The chairs I was devastated over…they are sooo beautiful, they belong here!!! Come to mama…….

I was however on a small scale able to score at least something, got? these lovely French bath products…I am sucker for fine soaps and anything with lavender.

Always keep these types of things on hand as last minute gifts…they are perfect!

Pillows……again! So this time around I am stressing and mulling over choices for my back patio. The Chiang Mai look gorgeous back there, I must say. Wrong size, I need bigger (but you get the idea)….however have found these, also Schumacher which have a similar feel but are still different (awaiting swatches to seal the deal).? Thoughts and opinions? Such a hard choice…..really love them all!

I like the idea of using these with one of the geometrics above

Or I can stay with what I have
And I have ordered lumbars in navy with ivory monogram to use on the club chairs….

A good cookbook. You know me and my books. I just can’t seem to stop buying them. Just ordered Mastering the Art of Southern Cooking. I had given this to a friend who loves to cook for her birthday? and when she started telling me about all the delectable recipes she has tried from the book and told me it’s now one of her favorite books (a big compliment because this girl is a serious cook) I knew I had to get one of my own….all in the name of keeping my southern heritage alive of course (and those taste buds on high alert)! Click here to see it on Amazon.

A wonderful cause. A reader of mine (who I will be? meeting in Charlottesville) sent me information on a grassroots group, Lifenotes Music For Children, that? she is involved in and asked for my support. It is a child safety program and I am always eager to help even in a very small way when it comes to anything with kids. Recognizing that kids are auditory learners and love music, this teaches them safety, healthy and character through music…..love the concept.

?I was happy to do it and thought it was worth sharing in case you too feel inclined to help out. There is no such thing as a donation too small and literally every dollar is so appreciated. Click here for more information.

More Hamptons bliss. I don’t know about you, but I never ever tire of seeing the beautiful Hamptons. Hopefully you agree because here are some wonderful highlights from recent trips out that way (that I forgot were on my computer)!

?Super charming Sag Harbor, if you ever get the chance….go!

?These dudes have a rough life……

?This set the tone for our lunch with a front row seat of the yachts (my friends idea to place the glass here and she’s onto something:)

?We had fun watching the crews lug things from oodles of flowers to fresh produce onto the yachts

?Doesn’t this look wonderfully old fashioned down to the vintage car?

?And this my friends,? is the famous American Hotel, a famous small town hotel where legions of famous faces and minds have visited

?The newest “it” hotel Topping Rose House

?We hit the cute pop up shop of Serena and Lily

?The decor was perfect for the beach lifestyle

?This was cheery…

?Here is the house dubbed “the perfect house” by? my boys when they were about five years old, it’s stuck ever since:)

?East Hampton patriotism at its finest

?Hydrangeas are everywhere…..must be that salt air that keeps them so beautiful!

?I think these boys were artists and were sketching this beautiful scene, though I was hoping they would move!

And then another day we were at Dockers in Quogue and I loved this bar stools, done in navy and white…so chic.

Around my house.? Back to the drawing board, and want to finalize pillow selections, get them ordered, get the rest of my trees (now that I found them) and finish up the patio while we can still enjoy it! Awaiting fabric swatches for pillows and rest of trees coming in this week….

?I stuck a tree in just to get an idea…..love it. The tree is about 7 feet tall to give you an idea. I LOVE these planters but they are obviously too small, so the search continues for planters that I can get now and not have to order…..

?Added the geometric with navy tape, love it

?Do you like the lumbar or square on these chairs?

?These bad boys are slowly coming back….they took a beating in the 99 degree heat and intense humidity, so much so that we had to move them. They are finally getting a little life back

Mini and mama orchid. If you are thinking the colors look odd, guilty as charged…I started fiddling with settings on the camera and changed it without knowing how to change it back!

?Love this pale lilac hydrangea too in my statuary planter

Added a bunch more of the richly hued hydrangea now growing in abundance around here, think they look perfect in the blue and white container……

?Love mixing the colors

My weekend as seen through my iphone…..

REMINDER- Last day to enter the giveaway from The Enchanted Home over at Art by Karena. Click here to enter!

This is a short fun post. Hope you are having a wonderful and enjoyable weekend. Ours is going well…..my son ended up not going to his tournament  which secretly was kind of amazing to me so it allowed me a little extra free downtime, always a huge treat! We enjoyed having friends over, a beautiful dinner out, a trip to a favorite garden center,  a visit to a local farmstand that just opened and today we are going to a few more garden centers and then a graduation party later in the day.

Since my poor camera (heavily abused) is now officially “in retirement”  I have to rely on my iphone. Just got the new iPhone 5 a few days ago and will concede that the camera is much better than the 4. I did not like the quality of the pictures from my old phone so this one is a step up. Anywho….as I love to take pictures of just about anything and can rival any Japanese tourist I took various pictures that kind of tell a story of my happenings in the last few days. Thought it would make a fun and “quickie” post (quick by my standards). Ready? Here we go…..

A wonderful event at Safavieh…a table too pretty to not take a picture of, love the crudite “trunk”…

My local farm stand finally opened….what a treat!
Fresh bread getting sliced up for crostinis I am making for appetizers……….
Basil, parsley and fresh tomatoes….doesn’t get better!

 Fresh strawberries..yum!

 Baby carrots….

Cut up bellpepper in half to serve as “bowls” for my dip

Add a little lighting for some ambiance…..

Light the candles outside on the loggia……
Loving my pillows!! A post on this to come in the next week or two…..

Adding my finishing touches, love the look of baby carrots and a yummy healthy spinach dip made with Greek yogurt…..

Aren’t these glasses beautiful? Bought them at an antique shop in CT. a while back……

I bought a large lot of them….it was like a crystal glass jackpot, love them!

And of course every get together in my home must include some kind of crostini (we were having friends over)….could easily make a meal of these plus they are so pretty!

And I got the best fresh figs with the fresh strawberries…they were soooo good.

Bought five of these very large white “Annabelle”  hydrangea flower bushes….going to have them planted today

Spent a little time by the pool……

This was the original pool house which we have done nothing to other than clean it up, it still has a lot of charm but eventually hope to give it a “facelift”

This extra large lattice planter, (think playhouse size) over 4′ x 4′ x 4′ is getting planted on Sunday

So excited! These gardenia topiaries that were dying I was able to bring back to life and they just sprouted their very first blooms in months!! This was a thrill:)

And hydrangeas are bloomimg in my yard, not to say this is my favorite color but they are pretty

 Visited a local nursery………..

This darling scultpure is of a girl and boy swinging to be hung from a tree….so cute!

Aren’t these pretty? The beautiful flowers our friends brought us over when they came over last night

Raised my window treatment in my bathroom to make it a little fuller and I like it!

Finally finished the floor of the small powder room off the library….now waiting for the wallpaper…..

This paper I have had in that little bathroom for nearly a year! I am finally taking the plunge…still love it as much as the day I found it!
So that’s a wrap of my weekend as seen through my trusty iPhone. Today we have a graduation party and hoping it doesn’t rain! Hope you are enjoying a wonderful and relaxing weekend…hard to believe next week is July 4th! Summer is flying…….

Party central part I

Hi there…well as I had spoken about I had two parties here this week and phew am I wiped! I have decided to break this into two parts because I took a lot of pictures and frankly it would be too much for one post (even by my standards)!  Before we get busy..I want to announce the lucky winner of Soiree, Danielle Rollins new book aka bible on entertaining, congratulations goes to……

Result: 57

Every picture had me oohing and aahing! I just love gazing at all of these settings. They really sent my imagination into overdrive. I have immensely enjoyed your posts and this one was like the cherry on top of the whipped cream, on top so much yumminess! Goodness Gracious…
And thanks for another chance to win a book on my favorite subject! Entertaining!
Please email me with your shipping information so this can get on it’s way to you!

By the time you read this I will be off on a little trip for just 3 days but a much needed break:) I enjoyed all the prep (as I always do) getting ready for these little shindigs but as I put a lot of effort into the details….I must say two in one week is a lot. The first get together was a luncheon for one of my best friends for 14 girls. The weather was not cooperative so we had drinks and appetizers on the loggia which I must say was so cozy and fun…then we moved indoors for lunch.

Every time I entertain I always try to add a new dish, I love experimenting and you never know unless you try, right? I kept the menu light which is appropriate for summer. A few light appetizers,  three different salads and Mediterranean pitas…..light, guilt free but no skimping no taste!  Then it was topped off with a sinfully good Weight Watchers Carrot cake, no you are not reading this wrong…it’s Weight Watchers!! So a guilt free meal that tastes good? My kind of menu! Hope you enjoy this recap.

Here is a recap from before, during and after…………

My pretty glasses in their wicker holders awaiting the peach sangria….love these for summer!
Prepping for the Greek baby spinach salad…yum!
Dip for tex mex salad and peach sangria marinating…

The birthday girls’ gift….all wrapped and ready to wow her!

We gave this beautiful orchid as part of her gift…she loves orchids and this planter from my online shop

The yummy peach sangria..heavenly good, light and perfect for a summer luncheon (or dinner) I make a double portion in a big plastic bowl and then transfer to either a punch bowl or pretty pitchers

My Chinese chicken salad is a staple in my house……
This really really good spinach/basil Greek salad…..excellent!

Of course, flowers and blue and whites are always part of the deal for anything I do!

One set of the pillows!! Love them, will be doing a separate post on my two sets of pillows……added the hurricanes and the garden seat and I just love the way it came out……

Even though it was raining it was so cozy to sit here while we heard the rain falling……

Dining room table ready to serve as a buffet table…buffets are so much easier!
Meanwhile…more prep going on inside the kitchen:)
 More salads at the ready…..
My Tex Mex salad getting all the fixings……..

Yum! Crostinis with brushetta and shredded fresh parmigiano…my fave! Served on my Vagabond gorgeous cheese/carving board

The table getting set up..I even wrote out what each item was and put them in small silver frames.

Beautiful flowers always make a table…..well that and good food:)

The mini Mediterranean pitas…filled with olive tapenade, hummus and feta cheese

I had a big bowl filled with wine and Pellegrino…………..

And of course carried over my blue and white theme to the napkins and plates…….

My friend always make this delicious Weight Watchers carrot cake for dessert, heavenly and sinfully good is understating it, it is so hard to believe its Weight Watchers!!Thankfully there was a bit left for leftovers..ice cold carrot cake and a big glass of milk the next morning is awfully hard to beat:)

So that’s my recap of the birthday lunch. When its a labor of love for someone you  care about…it doesn’t feel like work at all. I always get a lot of requests for recipes (totally flattered) if you click on keywords recipes, you will see all posts that featured them, only recipe not on there is the Greek salad which is new to my repertoire but I will be sure to include it in my next random musings post…promise! I enjoyed putting it together and tapping into my inner Martha Stewart and Carolyne Roehm!
Hope you enjoyed the recap…thanks as always for stopping in, stay tuned for party central part 2- I think you are going to loooove it, it’s one party I really have to say where my vision came alive and even surpassed my own expectations and that was a total thrill! Here is a sneak peek-

Until Thursday, hope you have a wonderful next few days…..will be back soon! Thanks for stopping in, am always happy that you do:)

Late week musings…..

Hello there, and happy Thursday.  What’s on your agenda for Memorial Day? Hope the weather forecast is going to be a good one. Here, it looks to be fair,  not as warm as it has been earlier in the week, but clear skies except for Saturday, so I am not complaining one bit!

We were due to go away to Newport but now with my sons team in the playoffs and having mandatory practice, that plan may be changing. We have a few backup plans in case so we will see and hopefully will fit in  some downtime just “hanging”.

As with my weekly musings posts, this one is a bit all over and fairly lengthy so lets get started…….

Mr. Teddy wishing you a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend! See him sporting his Amercian flag bandanna…….just got back from a grooming.

Beautiful  pictures from my fellow blue and white loving blog friends!  Julio strikes again, recently posted on his gorgeous back patio for his first dinner party, and it is seriously stunning! Take a look……..loving all that blue and white:) Click here to see more from Beaux Monde Designs.

Speaking of blue and white and gorgeous, check out Mary Ann’s friends dinner party also with beautiful touches of blue and white. Click here to see more from Classic Casual Home……..

Incredible story! Found this story totally inspiring and the pictures spellbinding! Tippi,  a young girl born to French wildlife photographers who has grown up in the African desert claims many of the wildlife to be her best friends, this is totally fascinating and the pictures just incredible! Click here to read/see more.

Gorgeous wedding.…..proof that it really is all in the details and these snippets are so beautiful! This wedding is sooooo chic, beautiful, elegant and tasteful! Click here to see all the details from Let the tide pull your dreams ashore…….

Shoes! Have to get these shoes. I could see these with a beautiful creamy colored dress/sheath or something lacey for the summer….LOVE these! Gorgeous in the baby blue too…..

My house. Just a few random pictures I took recently and I am  loving my newest planter from my statuary line. And check it out with the newly added hydrangea and ivy. Winning combination!

And me newest urn on pedastal….tah dah! (This item is on my line shop now)

Late day sun…my favorite time of day.

Smelling good. I love a soft and light summer scent for the warmer months ahead. I am a big fan of Jo Malone for her beautiful scents and staying power. I recently bought the English pair and freesia and love it, its very soft and perfect for summer!

Food. Yes, by now you know I love this subject and always have to include something yummy in these random posts. These look soooo good and so refreshing for a summer appetizer. I will be making these for sure, visit the Cookin Canuck for the how to…….

Shop news. Some new beautiful additions to silver and the Staffordshire dogs in all their many colors and sizes are now up for those who asked. Click here to visit the shop…….

And to anyone who had wanted this wonderful best selling bag that was sold out, I just got three more…..

Well, everyone that about wraps it up for this week. Hope whatever you are doing for the holiday weekend is wonderful, relaxing and safe. Here the weather is due to get much cooler but after hitting 85 the other day, the 60’s are quite welcome. I don’t need the extremes and certainly not the dreadful humidity! I likely won’t be back during the weekend but will see you on Monday! Happy holiday weekend,  enjoy and thanks as always for stopping in!

PS Per several requests..heres the link to the shoes above! Sorry, forgot to include it when this posted!
