Designer spotlight- Michael S. Smith

Hi there, having a super crazy busy week over here. I was hoping to do a mid week musings post but looks like it will have to wait a few days:) In the meantime, I thought you might enjoy this post! I? have been a long time fan of Michael S. Smith, ever since I spotted a gorgeous apt. he did in Arch Digest. This is major talent on steroids. He is referred to sometimes as a “celebrity decorator” for he has designed homes for names like Cindy Crawford, Kate Capshaw, Steven Spielberg, Dustin Hoffman, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Clearly they recognize major talent when they see it.

Based in Santa Monica, California,? his work however takes him all over the globe. Featured in every major design magazine, he is a name worth remembering. He has been named three times to Architectural Digest’s “AD 100”.? I like that there is no “cookie cutter” look, each is very custom to the respective home/apt.

Many of his projects appear ageless, and its not clear when they were done which to me is always a great hallmark for good design. I love how he uses the old with the new and his color palette? is rich but subdued. Not a bright chevron pattern in sight!? In addition to his design projects, he has collaborated with some of the best names in design to create custom collections for notable brands like Brunschwig and Fils, Visual Comfort, Baker and many more. So now that you know a little about this talented man, take a look at his work……..

Pretty spectacular don’t you think?? If you want to see more of his work or learn more about his distinguished firm, click here. Tell me what do you think of his look…… can you see living in any of these rooms? Have a favorite? I have several faves!

If you are a fan of his work you might consider getting his newest book, Building Beauty which is all about how to create the perfect American house. A great behind the scenes look into the decision making and thought processes that happen behind every great room, this is a book worth owning! Click here to purchase on Amazon. This is his fourth book and likely not his last:)

This is an older book but one I love and cherish, if you don’t have it I suggest it for your own design library…..click here to purchase.

Thanks as always for stopping and wishing you a fabulous day! Be back soon……

Designer Spotlight: Joy Tribout

Good morning my dear readers!! I have missed you these last five days. So missed being in blogland and have a lot of catching up to do!  Hope your week has gone well……while I didn’t get to take my planned southern road trip (time did not allow for it but rest assured it WILL happen),  I did get to go to DC, Richmond and ended up back in Charlottesville for a short trip with my sister. Had a blast…..so much to see and love. I will post more about it this weekend, once I have had a chance to catch my breath and get organized!

In the meantime, this was in my draft box and thought it would be a great time to post it and share this beautiful collection of rooms. Joy Tribout’s work is just incredible. I love every one of her rooms and could happily live in any of them. If you aren’t familiar with Joy’s work, then click here to see more. This is a portfolio very much worth seeing!

I have posted various rooms by this designer but realized I never did a Designer spotlight on her and boy does she deserve it!  This is one busy and super talented designer. I love her broad range, her amazing finesse at mixing patterns and color and her obvious attention to details, all exquisite. Joy, you are a super talented designer and it is a true joy to present your beautiful body of work today!

Pretty talented lady, don’t you think? Click here to see more about Joy’s work. I love her style and expect that we will continue to see more and more of her work. Enjoy your Thursday and hope you have had a wonderful week. Until tomorrow……

Designer spotlight: Toni Gallagher

Hi there and happy Thursday morning……haven’t done one of these in a long time.Bracing for more snow over here, ugh! It won’t be on the same scale as the last monster of a storm but we are due to get 4-6″ of snow tonight and lots of high winds……. guess I can deal with that as long as this is our last snowfall! Enough is enough!

Designer spotlight is when I feature a designer and their work, who has caught my eye. When I saw the first picture of Toni’s own vanity…my heart skipped a beat. Gorgeous with a capital G! I was intrigued and upon further investigation decided that this was a designer whose work I am a definite fan of and wanted to see more of. Much more.

Her work is clearly traditional but everything feels so light and airy too. Any designer who creates cloud like bedrooms (my favorite kind) uses blue and white in many of her projects and has a taste for the classics is a design hero in my book!  Classic, timeless, supremely elegant and of course just beautiful. I think with my incredible desire to see spring, I am particularly drawn to her work as it appears so fresh, inviting and warm, much like the season of spring. Toni is based in Rye, NY but does work all over the country. So lets take a look at this talented designers work, shall we…..

This vanity is absolutely dreamy!!
Love her use of blue and whites….
Such a beautiful tranquil space….
Such an elegant bathroom….love the tones and the beautiful artwork makes a bath feel so special

This is so picture perfect!! Adore this space

Love the piping, the freshness that all the blue brings to this charming space
Love ivory in a bedroom….so serene.
This is such a beautiful guest room…..how inviting!
This is  a fabulous breakfast room…..so cheery and sophisticated
My favorite color palette for a bedroom……
This guest bedroom is so inviting……love the addition of the check fabric, adds such charm!
Beautiful nautical inspired  space…….
Simply gorgeous outdoor area…makes me crave summer in a BIG way!
So pretty!
Charm galore….
This room feels and looks like a perfect cloud!
I want that secretary!!
Or this one……
Love this sunny spot and what a view, have such a fondness for windowseats!
Don’t you just love cozy spaces like this?

Well….what do you think? Have a favorite room here?  I love her style and think she has the “fresh classic” vibe nailed! Always enjoy discovering the work and talents of a new designer (new to me that is). If you want to look back at other “designer spotlight” posts about other talented designers, on top left in search bar, just type in designer spotlight and it will take you to all the old posts. Thanks for stopping in and letting me be a part of your day! Wishing you a wonderful Thursday!
