Which would you choose?

Good frigid evening. OK put this on record. I officially dislike winter (did not say hate but it was tempting). I am staring at a? foot of frozen snow covering everything in sight and though it is undeniably a winter wonderland, it is also FRIGID. I am destined to become a snowbird afterall…..winter and snow just doesn’t agree with me anymore.

Since I am homebound, think it might be a good idea to start dismantling my CHRISTMAS decroations. YES, I still have them up. Even my tree. Do you think that just maybe my ornaments were trying to tell me something when I found two of my angels and three of my birds on the floor this morning!!!! Moving on……..

I heard from a reader who is in a pickle over what to wear to her daughters wedding, she asked if I would consider doing a Which would you choose on Mothers of the Bride dresses, it is not the first time this has been requested so thought it was due time besides at one time or another God willing we will all be there!

Things have changed a lot seemingly, we have moved well beyond the shiny polyester looking dresses with the tiny bolero jackets to fit over them, that seemed to be the “uniform” for many mothers! Today’s mothers are more fashion conscious than ever, and why not! Its a major milestone to be celebrating your child’s wedding, why shouldn’t you too look spectacular. Besides we all know today’s 50+ something is yesterdays 20 year old (or is it 30)? lol

Some of these looks work if you are really svelte and if you are, then go for it! Some I would sew a little cap sleeve onto (have done that many times, its such an easy way to remedy a dress you fall in love with). So you know the drill….if you were the mother of a bride, which of these would be your choice?

Some feel black is not appropriate for a mother of the bride, but I threw a few black ones in as I have seen them worn more and more (not sure it would be my first choice but then again it is sooo slimming:) I changed it up for? the seasons, some more appropriate for winter and others summery and springy looking, long sleeves, sleeveless, hopefully something for everyone! I look forward to seeing which you choose. Ready? Let’s go……..the church bells are ringing!

All gowns shown are from Neiman Marcus.

I love so many of these but have to say 1, 2, 3 15 and 22 (and its black)!? really rock my world. If I had to choose just one this very minute, think I would go with 15, love the color and cut.?

Some real beauties here, in my “investigative work” (that’s what I try to pass it off as to my husband) I just kept saying over and over to myself that I want to become Elie Saab’s muse in my next life, his gowns are just too amazing for words….such a genius designer! Elie, if you are reading this call me, I would love you to design my dress for my sons wedding one day:)

I personally favor the pinks, golds and lighter neutrals, they are fresh and elegant. But I would not rule out any color, I think if you fall in love with a dress and it feels great on…..that what wins in the end! Nothing wears as beautifully as confidence:) What about you? What are your thoughts? A poll has been set up but of course I always love to hear from you too.

A quick sidenote after I finished this post…spotted this on my Pinterest fashion board and this beauty could be a quick contender too….holy moly! From my “bud” Elie:)

Which would you choose? Golden Globes edition!

Hello there and happy Monday afternoon…..so who won? Golden Globes or Downton Abby? I know for many it was a tough decision since they were both on the same time…for me it was the Golden Globes (plus heard many were disappointed in last nights episode of DA).? I love love love watching all the glamour pour down the red carpet, but the older I get the more I realize I am happy I am not a celebrity. The constant scrutinizing? and serious pressure to look your best EVERY waking minute would just be terribly hard on a daily basis, I guess you develop a thick skin over time and if you ask to be in the public eye…that’s just part of the package. I get it.

Glad I am not a part of it but it sure is fun standing by the sidelines! My personal fave for the night was Cate Blanchette, always the picture of elegance and grace, her black lace stunner was GORGEOUS! I thought Naomi, Sofia and Olivia also looked stunning amongst many others.

Thought it would make a fun Which would you choose? All included are what I thought to be some of? the nights best looks but there were as there always is, a few misses for sure, I included those for fun…always love to know what you think. Let’s talk!

Now here are some misses (at least in my non professional opinion)…..and I included dresses that I would have put them in. Just in case anyone of these “misses” is reading this…..I may be able to fit you in for the Oscars 🙂 Call my people and I will get back to you…lol
? I am sorry I do not “get” the black exercise pants under this gown…too bad because from the front it was quite beautiful and her hair and makeup was flawless as well……she,? with her youth and desire for edginess could have gone with either of the two super high fashion dresses below for “wow” factor (Jason Wu and Erdem) that would have both made a true fashion statement.

?Ugh….sorry I REALLY do not get this at all. I mean I get it Julia, you are America’s homegrown down to earth, simple sweetheart but this is just odd, I really don’t understand the choice AT ALL. She looks great in white and seems to favor things with sleeves (hey Julia I totally relate) but she needed something that was elegant, sophisticated but something with a wee of retrained bling, I found it! This dress by Temperley was made for Julia…..

And look how gorgeous it is from the back….

?The hair to me was a total miss and feel the dress for her super petite frame just wasn’t the most appropriate. I think with her stature this DVF gown could have looked amazing on her…the long fluid lines would have worked well on her small frame and it has just the right amount of bling, while still feeling young.

Heidi, for someone who has a 24/7 front row and center seat to the fashion world…this is the best you could do? The bangs feel soooo 80’s, you look washed out,? and the choker/tassle with the busy dress is just way too much. Heidi loves things that show off her legs and likes jazzy looking gowns, could see this Sass and Bide gown on her, with a slight tan she would have been a standout….plus she would not have had to worry about jewelry, its on the dress!

?Flamengo dancing anyone? Such a pretty girl (Adam Sandbergs wife), but the dress from Tammy Wynette’s closet, um….not so much. It looks more costume than dress, just way too many ruffles, layers and such going on! She is young and pretty and should embrace her youth with something fun but elegant and something that shows her curves a bit more….this beautiful red Giambattista Valli gown or modern feeling Roland Mouret number would have made her dazzle!

Love Julie from Modern Family? but did not think this was her best look.? It feels kind of wintry with the velvet accents, she could done so much better! She has? a great figure and could have looked just beautiful? in something like this? gorgeous white Calvin Klein number or pale gray/blue Marchesa gown….

?I think Lea seems like one cool girl, really funny, so down to earth and real which is why she is probably so popular but her stylist must be fired! This bright yellow confection did nada for her. Her hair looks like a 6 year styled it…come on- a tiny barrette on the side? Wrong, wrong and wrong. I could see her in this slimming black lace gown by Valentino or this? beautiful red fitted Herve Leger gown….

?How did she keep from falling over to one side with all those ruffles? Geez…..its like looking at a moving iceberg. Love white on the red carpet but this was just over the top,? too much. She tried too hard to make a fashion statement! If she wanted white and dramatic how about this Lanvin number?

Zoe is so pretty and has such a gorgeous body, she must be every designers dream to dress. She is one to always look for…she exudes elegance so I disappointed last night. This to me, looks like a budding fashionistas experiment gone wrong. It just feels so “wrong” with? the funky straps, the asymmetrical bottom. My choice for her would have been a gorgeous black lacy gown by Chloe with no jewelry but a massive pair of dangling Harry Winston emerald earrings…oooh la la!

Oh Melissa. Please fire your stylist. Clearly she is the one who gave you that horrid mullet last year, this years hair was to me a bit too severe. This dress was only a very slight improvement. You can do better. People love you, they want to see you look amazing. I think the main thing I would have changed here would have been the hair. I would want to see a softer, more feminine look and it would be nice to see you in a color, something cheery and happy. This feels so dark and drab but since I totally understand the forgiving nature of black, maybe a dark blue with a slightly fitted waist and a really great pair of “statement” earrings for a little sparkle?

This was fun! Glad the Oscars aren’t too far away….I love fashion and for the most part there were many fabulous looks last night, it’s always such for me to see what you all like too. So set up a poll to vote for your fave, and would love your feedback! Even if you didnt’ watch, this is kind of a fashion recap:) Thanks for stopping in, wishing you a wonderful day and good start to your week!

By Invitation Only……..Christmas Cocktails!!

Hi there! So excited to be here for our last By Invitation Only post for 2013…….hard to believe! Where did the time go? 2013 has been an amazing year and I am so fortunate to have been included with such a talented and inspiring group of women/fellow bloggers. It has been fun coming up with our own take? on various themes this year……..and I so enjoy seeing what everyone else comes up with too!

The theme this month is both a festive and fun one, Christmas cocktails…..and I had a ball putting it together. Especially since I was originally planning on throwing a real live shindig but alas it was not meant to happen, however am hoping to do a post holiday bash in January. So I had fun living vicariously? through this party and best part of all…you are all invited!

Ready for me to open the door so you can come on in and get this party started?

My invitation might look something like this…..

And as your festive hostess, this is what I will be wearing…..

This gorgeous red lace dress (my Christmas wish came true early…I can eat all I want forever and ever and never gain a pound, hence how I will fit into this dress)!

And of course to show my spirit….gotta add a little green!

And can’t decide which of these beauties to include, maybe both!

A little gold polishes it off!

And when the party is in full swing, and no one is looking I will change into these (hey at least they are festive)!

Come on in…….

?The first thing that greets you will be the Christmas tree in the foyer…but it’s not the last one you will see!

You will hear all of your favorite holiday tunes being sung by real live Christmas carolers all dressed up in their holiday finest!

You are then handed a glass of champagne to start the celebrating!

?And as you stroll throughout the house with the hum of the carolers singing their tunes, you see that in every room, Christmas had indeed arrived. I have tables set up all over the house as “food stations” so that people will walk and mingle…..

?Festive touches are everywhere…….

Every space has been decorated to the nines in its Christmas finest!
?The breakfast is cheery and festive too….
?And of course I didn’t forget about decorating the kitchen!!!!
?I have great big bowls of holiday apples and evergreen..

It has been fun coming up with our own take  on various themes this year……..and I so enjoy seeing what everyone else comes up with too!

The theme this month is both a festive and fun one, Christmas cocktails…..and I had a ball putting it together. Especially since I was originally planning on throwing a real live shindig but alas it was not meant to happen, however am hoping to do a post holiday bash in January. So I had fun living vicariously  through this party and best part of all…you are all invited!

The first thing that greets you will be the Christmas tree in the foyer…but it’s not the last one you will see!

You will hear all of your favorite holiday tunes being sung by real live Christmas carolers all dressed up in their holiday finest!

You are then handed a glass of champagne to start the celebrating!

And as you stroll throughout the house with the hum of the carolers singing their tunes, you see that in every room, Christmas had indeed arrived. I have tables set up all over the house as “food stations” so that people will walk and mingle…..

 Festive touches are everywhere…….

Every space has been decorated to the nines in its Christmas finest!
The breakfast is cheery and festive too….
And of course I didn’t forget about decorating the kitchen!!!!
I have great big bowls of holiday apples and evergreen..

Paperwhites will be all over….permeating my home with their intoxicating scent

Meet Gretchen Scott and a mega giveaway

Good morning! I have had many Gretchen Scott frocks in my closet over the years. I love her fun, elegant, chic and beautiful designs. I first discovered them in the Caribbean at the hotel’s gift shop and I was immediately smitten with the line. Over the years sure enough they turned up in the most stylish places and I have built my “Gretchen collection” over time. Her things don’t go out of style and some I have had for years and years.? She sells online, has signature stores in Nantucket, Jupiter, Southampton and think there is one opening in Atlanta, not to mention countless stylish boutiques that carry her line.

?I LOVE this picture of Gretchen which really expresses her personality. She,? having just arrived to her hotel in Jaipur, India was walking by and noticed an unsuspecting tourist wearing one of her designs!!

I had the good fortune to “meet” Gretchen by chance? when she sent in some pictures for my readers Christmas post last year. When I saw the name attached to the pictures, I wrote her asking if she was THE Gretchen Scott, and holy moly, she was! So we corresponded off and on and I had the good fortune to meet and get a personal tour of Gretchen Scott headquarters not too long ago. She graciously showed me around and made me so welcome, I got to spend a few hours there and by the time I left, I felt like we were old friends:) Unfortunately did not bring my camera but managed to snap a few with my iPhone. Her headquarters and design studio are so inviting, cool, beautiful and friendly…I love the vibe, its one great big happy family!

There are three floors of rolling racks filled to the brim of the prettiest clothes!

I could happily spend days there…..looking at everything, so much to see!

?The cool spot where the employees eat and chill…..

?The big loft like offices where it “all goes down”………

She has in house designers and graphic artists who she collaborates with, and is soon coming out with a new line of fabrics!

Gretchen is so smart…she even has her own photography studio inside the headquarters! Talk about multi tasking!

Gretchen is larger than life, full of personality, energy and creativity. I felt such good karma walking into her loft like offices where a group of about 15 work. There are dogs, any kind of pets welcome, if an employee needs to bring their sick child, Gretchen has a crib set up and oodles of space including kids play tables..she is one exemplary boss, smart lady! Happy employees= maximum productivity. Her line is growing and is inspired by her world travels (of which there are many). This is someone who has been to more countries more often than anyone I know, one look at her personal pictures on her website says it all. To know her is to love her…….her energy and enthusiasm for a good and full life is contagious. And of course her talent for designing super chic clothes………..

How can you not feel good in this top!
Adore this Pucci-esque vest, I own it and love it!
She has tons of adorable dresses and tunics like this…so comfortable and smart looking

?The Irish lace is to die for….in person these are exquisite and can be dressed up or down, LOVE!

?LOVED these silk jersey dresses, they feel as good as they look and are super flattering!!!

I own this very top…love it!

And after a long day….aren’t these robes just the cutest and softest thing to slip into! I have owned mine for a few years and its my fave!

It was such fun meeting Gretchen, hearing of her tales, her philosophy on life and her travel stories, her inspirations behind certain collections. A lot of the embroidery and bead work is done in the mecca for such things, India. She has been there many many times and has a love for the country that is so evident.?
