Then imagine my surprise and excitement when a few days later…. I get a package in the mail. It was almost too pretty to open. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed.? And then I saw it was from “unmistakable Howard”…..check it out!

Then when I finally opened up the gorgeous gift wrap, I saw this card. Howard Slatkin is a fan of moi????? Well Howard the feeling is VERY mutual! OK, so this is one of those books that you need to be sitting in just the right spot to open, drinking just the right drink (coffee or after 5 perhaps a glass of wine or a martini, which seems fitting for the book). This book is tres elegant. Uber chic. So unbelievably grand, yes this is one of those showstopping really sensational books you need to get your hands on. Good eats. You know I love good food. I have to say I am a bit out of the loop when it comes to cooking for large groups or throwing a party. I am seriously considering having a big Christmas party but know if I am? that I need to commit NOW. It’s Oct. and time to set a date and start sending out save the dates since Dec. is such a busy month. I keep wavering…..anyway having about 7 girls over next week. Normally we go out for dinner but I am having them over for a tapas night. Just appetizers (most everyone’s favorite way to eat anyway)…that way you get to try everything. Thanks to my Pinterest foodfun boards, I do not need to look any further, got so many good ideas there!! Here is what I am considering…..

We are doing these mantles in an antiqued limestone, as opposed to marble and I think they are going to be amazing…

Boots. I love boots. I saw these on someone a few days ago and practically knocked someone over to go and ask the girl where she got them and whose they were. From Nordstroms and Enzo! By Invitation Only….Camelot!

Hi there, its our monthly By Invitation Only post and this is it until the fall! (We are taking a break during the summer months since everyone will be scattered about during the summer). Marsha of Splenderosa? came up with the concept of each of us posting on Camelot. Open to interpretation…..it will be fun? to see what all the girls in the group come up with!

For me first and foremost the first image that comes to mind is of JFK and Jackie….but of course! How could it not! They signified an American Camelot, don’t you agree? So I have to start this post off with a picture of the iconic couple……..

Then I started thinking about a modern day Camelot. What does it mean? What would it look like?? Camelot, the mythical magical castle supposedly that belonged to King Arthur is still a mystery, its true location never really known. Yet the term Camelot stays so alive in our imaginations, talked about from generation to generation….a testament to how important it is for us to dream and to aspire, old and young alike.

So just roll with me here! I came up with an inside and outside look at what my own modern day Camelot might look like (in my overactive imagination)! This is what I came up with, just think a timeless classic gem, one that will stand the test of time………….where everything is beautiful and the simple pleasures are enjoyed and cherished in the most elegant way possible!

?Where the long shady driveway might look like this…….

?Passing the horses grazing along the way up to the house…….

The “greeting committee” at Camelot…..

Camelot…a home that befits such a name
?With an elegant front porch that looks something like this….perfect for early morning coffee and watching the sun come up…..

Where canines rule, no room is off limits!

?Where the rear foyer might open onto a beautiful manicured field like this…….
?Where pristine and perfect gardens are everywhere you look…….
And secret gardens wait for your discovery!

A home where every room, though grand and gorgeous, has a feeling of “worn in elegance” that beckons you in…..

?Where the guest rooms rival that of the finest hotels you have ever stayed in
With a bathroom and tub to match……

And where slippers like these are waiting for you to slip into….. (you’re not surprised are you)?

?And where the sitting rooms, a rhapsody of blue and white invite you to linger for hours…..

And monogrammed everything is de rigeur ….

Where all the foods for the daily meals are centered around what’s picked from the garden that morning..rest assured it’s delicious!

?Breathtaking views can be expected from every window over at Camelot!
Even that of the porte cochere which houses a collection of fabulous vintage roadsters….

Camelot, a place where time really does stand still, long enough to sit down and write an old fashioned thank you note (no texting or emailing a thank you allowed)!

A grand drawing room where everyone gathers after dinner for a little nightcap

And smaller intimate spaces that beg you to get cozy in with a great book…..

A ballroom sized kitchen that can accommodate prepping for parties for hundreds and hundreds…..

A dining room that can handle heads? of state, heated family debates and lengthy formal dinners of all kinds…….

Camelot…a place with more than one reading room….for all those books you have nothing but time to devour!

Where closets are the stuff girly girl dreams are made of!

?Meals are always a white tablecloth, silver charger, and fancy linens affair…….

?Where daily crisp white linens are changed on the bed and finished with a spritz of lavender spray

And where urns of beautiful flowers and plants are changed weekly…….

A place where picnics are? commonplace
?

And when you aren’t going on a picnic you might ride for acres and acres on your own mare or stallion

And when you come back, look what might be waiting for you…a chilled mint julep in a monogrammed cup!

Camelot, a home where legendary Christmas’s are right? out of a storybook…….
And where the drawing room can be converted to a beautiful ballroom for a family wedding

?Where a gorgeous little gazebo at the waters edge holds your personal small boat for when you want to jaunt”across the lake” to catch a drink or late day coffee with a friend…….
?Holding your chinoiserie umbrella of course! (and yes this includes the glass of Bordeaux you see there)!!

Well as they say if you are going to dream you? might as well dream B I G, right? One can dream! I always say I was born in the wrong era, society moves too fast for me today, I want it to slow dooooooown. WAY down. This modern day Camelot certainly would be quite a fantasy as life is so fast paced today, I find it is harder to take the time to really enjoy the simple pleasures in life. I think Camelot is a vision and a concept of magical perfection more than anything else, very much alive? in our imaginations that has been revered and celebrated for centuries.

True, this doesn’t apply to 99.9% of us, but I think we can all have our own little Camelots…..by making our own homes places we love to live in, share with others and fill with love. We can all buy fresh flowers, light beautiful candles, play beautiful music…..all the pretty little touches that can bring a little “Camelot” into our lives, what do you think? How do you see your personal Camelot?

If you want to see more interpretations of Camelot and I can assure you there will be many worth seeing, click here to visit the very talented, fearless leader of BIO, Marsha of Splenderosa…where there are links to all the other bloggers who have participated.

Thanks for stopping in and don’t forget to visit here to be eligible for one of four fabulous giveaways all in honor of Mothers Day!

ARCHITECT CRUSH: ROBERT A.M. STERN

And a happy Tuesday to you……like many of you, I am prone to spending a lot of time looking at various websites of designers and architects whose work I am a fan of. Every now and then, I really fall in love with the work of one and make a regular habit of going on their sites for my daily fix of eye candy or for divine inspiration….now more than ever since we are in the throes of home building! There are a number of amazing architects on this planet (one of whom is my own and a major talent but he does things the old fashioned way and does not have a website though that may change) so for today, I am happy to share with you the first of my architect crush posts’, none other than the great, ginourmously talented, mega accomplished, multi award winning Robert A.M. Stern. He and his not so small team of 220 talented individuals are responsible for some of today’s most exciting  residential and commercial work worldwide. He has designed and dreamed up some of my favorite homes and interiors over the last forty one years. His firm takes him all over the planet and they have done work  on literally every continent. Here’s a taste of what hes all about…….

And his interiors aren’t too bad either!

So what do you think? Are you already a fan or if you weren’t have I converted you into one? I think there is a reason this renowned architects work spans every country around the world and why he is respected and revered amongst his peers like few contemporary architects today. He is one who will go down, I believe like so many greats before him, in the history books! If you really love his work, might I suggest an incredible “bible’ of a book, which I adore and both my architect and I refer to often, aptly named “Houses”…its fabulous!
Hope you have an enchanted day!

Stern. He and his not so small team of 220 talented individuals are responsible for some of today’s most exciting ?residential and commercial work worldwide. He has designed and dreamed up some of my favorite homes and interiors over the last forty one years. His firm takes him all over the planet and they have done work ?on literally every continent.?Here’s a taste of what hes all about…….

And his interiors aren’t too bad either!

Sunday showhouse…….and you’re invited!

My prayers continue for the people of Japan. So much devastation and loss…hoping for recovery, restoration and rebuilding for Japan and its proud people.

Happy Sunday! The weather this weekend has been incredible…and I am convinced that we will get to enjoy a spring after all!  As I do every Sunday, I have a  house tour featuring a few different style homes in different locations. Today we go from one coast to the next, and then all the way over to my favorite country other than the U.S……France!! So sit back, relax, pour yourself another cup of java and don’t be too quick to get up and run out of the house…its Sunday and a day to stop and smell the roses (and look at houses) Enjoy! Let me know if you have a favorite…

This beautiful country home modeled after an English country manor/Costwold style is brand new. Located in Falls Church, Virginia….it is situated on five sprawling acres. Careful to replicate this beauty to look old, it is purposeful restrained and understated. The interiors however were given a more modern, transitional feel. I love the bright, airy and sun lit rooms…..great space and not too formal or stuffy. What do you think?

Then we are off to the west coast and sunny California, Belvedere to be exact. This not so humble abode belongs to someone who we should all know one way or another, the Restoration Hardwares CEO, Gary Freidman…yes you in some teeny tiny way, made him having this house possible…lol! The views of the Golden Gate bridge speak for themselves as does the laid back elegance and charm that abounds. Architect Howard Backen did a beautiful job in creating this fabulous water view getaway….

Now buckle your seatbelts as we are jetting all the way to glorious Avignon, France, I am sure I don’t have to twist your arm for this one! This picture perfect French countryside home in the middle of this historic and charm to the max picturesque countryside is the kind of place I would like to escape to and would never want to go back…..I can almost smell the lavender fields and the fresh bread baking from the small village patisserie! I am ready to go…..

So…what do you think? Do you have a favorite? Would love to know..wishing you a relaxing and enchanted Sunday!
