The results are in and some Pinterest pretties!

Hello and Happy Sunday to you. Over here, its another freeeeeezing day. This is the kind of biting cold that honestly makes you want to stay inside in your pjs, hop into your bed and not leave until March. It is bitter, gray and incredibly uninviting. It is quite something that so much of our country is experiencing this extreme cold. I say please bring on an early spring!!

Good day for the movies…we may head out to one later on. Seen anything good lately? We saw Twelve Years a slave and I must say it was excellent. I have heard rave reviews over Lone Survivor, it looks intense but incredible and to know it’s a true story makes it that more compelling. Any other recommendations?

I really appreciate the over 200 bloggers that participated in my blogger poll. The results were so interesting and I know many of you are eager to see them. The results are below, wondering if there were any surprises to you?

I am also sharing some beautiful (and a few mouth watering) images from my Pinterest boards, random things of beauty and/or inspiration that caught my attention this week. If you want to see more click here.

And finally, if you love your kitchen and think it’s “contest ready” please snap a picture and send it in for my Kitchen contest! I have gotten some amazing pictures so far and look forward to getting more. Details are on the bottom.

By Invitation Only……..Christmas Cocktails!!

Hi there! So excited to be here for our last By Invitation Only post for 2013…….hard to believe! Where did the time go? 2013 has been an amazing year and I am so fortunate to have been included with such a talented and inspiring group of women/fellow bloggers. It has been fun coming up with our own take? on various themes this year……..and I so enjoy seeing what everyone else comes up with too!

The theme this month is both a festive and fun one, Christmas cocktails…..and I had a ball putting it together. Especially since I was originally planning on throwing a real live shindig but alas it was not meant to happen, however am hoping to do a post holiday bash in January. So I had fun living vicariously? through this party and best part of all…you are all invited!

Ready for me to open the door so you can come on in and get this party started?

My invitation might look something like this…..

And as your festive hostess, this is what I will be wearing…..

This gorgeous red lace dress (my Christmas wish came true early…I can eat all I want forever and ever and never gain a pound, hence how I will fit into this dress)!

And of course to show my spirit….gotta add a little green!

And can’t decide which of these beauties to include, maybe both!

A little gold polishes it off!

And when the party is in full swing, and no one is looking I will change into these (hey at least they are festive)!

Come on in…….

?The first thing that greets you will be the Christmas tree in the foyer…but it’s not the last one you will see!

You will hear all of your favorite holiday tunes being sung by real live Christmas carolers all dressed up in their holiday finest!

You are then handed a glass of champagne to start the celebrating!

?And as you stroll throughout the house with the hum of the carolers singing their tunes, you see that in every room, Christmas had indeed arrived. I have tables set up all over the house as “food stations” so that people will walk and mingle…..

?Festive touches are everywhere…….

Every space has been decorated to the nines in its Christmas finest!
?The breakfast is cheery and festive too….
?And of course I didn’t forget about decorating the kitchen!!!!
?I have great big bowls of holiday apples and evergreen..

?Paperwhites will be all over….permeating my home with their intoxicating scent

A local master baker has created this incredible take on a gingerbread house as one of my centerpieces!

?And of course my trademark blue and white is all over the place….

This is a cocktail party…no formal stuffy sit down dinners. This is a casual but elegant affair with a ton of appetizers, both stationery and passed. A quick look at some of the foods that will be served…….we know it’s all about the food!!

Mini ceasar salads served in small mint julep cups

Feta and tomato crostinis

Fruits and chocolate tuxedo strawberries

Crab stuffed mushrooms

?Mini shrimp cocktail

Mini? Fish tacos and patron

?A modern and whimscial take on pigs in a blanket:)

Flank steak and avocado on a crostini…yum!

Crab ragoons

Skewered lime shrimp

And if you are like me, what you? really want to know about are? the desserts, here is just a sampling of what will be served….

A gorgeous cookie display of amazing cookies to take home!

All kinds of amazing cakes!

Donuts and milk anyone?

And these cakes do not need narration….YES they are that good!

An assortment of Ms. Prindables apples

Incredible cameo cookies

This is cruel,? I know……… to post so many delectable goodies especially when I am hungry, sorry for any binges this might create…hey, its the holidays, enjoy!

Once we are done toasting, cheering, laughing eating to our hearts delight and of course singing through it all…..I hand out these darling party favors!

And as the night wraps up….and everyone grabs their favor and bids us farewell…you will never guess who is waiting outside in the front yard to lead the way home!

A fall contest, a few fabulous books and late week musings…..

Hi and happy Friday to you! I am so sorry for all that craziness for my fall fabulous contest,? with having to remove two polls and cancel all the votes then resorting to doing it the old fashioned way (leaving votes in comments)? but it was important for this to be fair, sorry to everyone but I appreciate your patience! There appeared to be some glitches, with some votes not registering, etc….. I promise by my next contest this will be all figured out! Winner will be announced on Sunday. Voting will end on Sat. at midnight. Click here to place your vote and see all of the wonderful pictures my readers sent in..so many winners! (Remember you do not need an account to vote, you can just click on anyonmous or name and use your first name)

Hope you have had a good week……let’s get busy!

Moving along…..I love getting in new books. Lately I scored big time, with Suzanne Tuckers fabulous MUST ADD to your collection new book. Click here to preorder it.…is AMAZING! I recently received a few more books that look incredibly good that I hope to get to this weekend, they are still in their plastic waiting to be enjoyed…….

And then……

One day I got this incredible invitation in the mail. Soooo stunning, it nearly made me faint! An invitation to Howard Slatkins, the king of good taste book signing at Bergdorf Goodman. I am really hoping to go! Here it is……

Then imagine my surprise and excitement when a few days later…. I get a package in the mail. It was almost too pretty to open. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed.? And then I saw it was from “unmistakable Howard”…..check it out!

Then when I finally opened up the gorgeous gift wrap, I saw this card. Howard Slatkin is a fan of moi????? Well Howard the feeling is VERY mutual! OK, so this is one of those books that you need to be sitting in just the right spot to open, drinking just the right drink (coffee or after 5 perhaps a glass of wine or a martini, which seems fitting for the book). This book is tres elegant. Uber chic. So unbelievably grand, yes this is one of those showstopping really sensational books you need to get your hands on. The opulence drips off of the pages, talk about a book that “takes you away” . So click here to preorder it? on Amazon and Howard, thank you so very much! I really hope to see you at the book signing…….and in the meantime, your beautiful new book sits proudly on my coffee table!

?Anyone who still uses a wax seal in their presentation is an instant friend of mine:)

?A personalized message to me? This got me excited!!

?This just oozes class and elegance!

Good eats. You know I love good food. I have to say I am a bit out of the loop when it comes to cooking for large groups or throwing a party. I am seriously considering having a big Christmas party but know if I am? that I need to commit NOW. It’s Oct. and time to set a date and start sending out save the dates since Dec. is such a busy month. I keep wavering…..anyway having about 7 girls over next week. Normally we go out for dinner but I am having them over for a tapas night. Just appetizers (most everyone’s favorite way to eat anyway)…that way you get to try everything. Thanks to my Pinterest foodfun boards, I do not need to look any further, got so many good ideas there!! Here is what I am considering…..

WARNING this will make you very very hungry…and diets must be left at the door!

?Love these individual Ceasars!

?OMG! Pecan maple kahlua baked brie….yowza!
Hot crab dip..sign me up!
Might do small ramkins of this spinach/artichoke pastas
Fig spread and cheese crostini
Baked artichoke dip
And for dessert how about peanut butter ice cream sandwiches

Vince Camuto. Ever bought anything bearing his name? If so, then consider this house to be a teeny tiny part yours:) If you have an extra 50 million to spare,? this Hampton heavenly abode can be yours! I must say its quite spectacular…….

On the home front. Finally got some trim and the velvet for living room pillows ordered. Cannot wait to get them done. I know they are going to add so much to the living room even though its very much a work in progress. Finally ordering the mantles..after all this time for living and dining room. We are doing these mantles in an antiqued limestone, as opposed to marble and I think they are going to be amazing…

Boots. I love boots. I saw these on someone a few days ago and practically knocked someone over to go and ask the girl where she got them and whose they were. From Nordstroms and Enzo! (under 200) big perk. I was determined to get them and now of course I cannot find them anywhere…..sold out in brown everywhere. How cute are these? If you are size 6, that is one size that is available…..

On the shop front. So many wonderful new things coming in to my online shop,? I am super excited. Finally got in some dough bowls and let me tell you these are gorgeous!!!!!! I have two left to sell ( one is 33″ and the other 25″) Email me if interested, they are really stunning!

The wraps and hand warmers were a big? big hit. They are the ultimate statement in both luxury and an ideal solution to keeping warm, looking chic but not having to lug a heavy coat! I have owned my Alicia’s alpaca capes for over 8 years and they still look brand new! They are as soft as cashmere, don’t pill and are super warm. Just a gorgeous line that I am so pleased to be carrying and for the lady who has it all, the alpaca bathrobe is just the ultimate. Only downside, you might not want to take it off:) Some favorite pieces from the gorgeous line…..

?Chunky cable knit baby alpaca throw

?Love this pompom reversible throw in baby alpaca

?Fingerless gloves come in 6 wonderful colors and are super cute!

?The classic shawl should be a staple in every women’s closet! Gorgeous and so elegant with anything

The attention to detail did not go unnoticed.

So click here to preorder it  on Amazon and Howard, thank you so very much! I really hope to see you at the book signing…….and in the meantime, your beautiful new book sits proudly on my coffee table!

Anyone who still uses a wax seal in their presentation is an instant friend of mine:)

A personalized message to me? This got me excited!!

This just oozes class and elegance!

Good eats. You know I love good food. I have to say I am a bit out of the loop when it comes to cooking for large groups or throwing a party. I am seriously considering having a big Christmas party but know if I am  that I need to commit NOW. It’s Oct. and time to set a date and start sending out save the dates since Dec. is such a busy month.

 Love these individual Ceasars!

OMG!

If so, then consider this house to be a teeny tiny part yours:) If you have an extra 50 million to spare,  this Hampton heavenly abode can be yours!

So many wonderful new things coming in to my online shop,  I am super excited. Finally got in some dough bowls and let me tell you these are gorgeous!!!!!! I have two left to sell ( one is 33″ and the other 25″) Email me if interested, they are really stunning!

The wraps and hand warmers were a big  big hit.

Chunky cable knit baby alpaca throw

Love this pompom reversible throw in baby alpaca

Fingerless gloves come in 6 wonderful colors and are super cute!

The classic shawl should be a staple in every women’s closet! Gorgeous and so elegant with anything

The cape with fringe is equally stunning

How about this chunky sweater coat? How delicious is this!! Comes in gray, taupe and beige

For the woman who has it all…this is the ultimate robe. I own several beautiful robes including a great cashmere one but this is the gold standard. LOVE this robe!!!

Moving along…….I am so excited to be here today with another fabulous blogger and her stunning home for my “Beautiful bloggers abodes” series. I am having so much fun getting a peek into these exquisite homes and learning from those in the know. Say hello to the ridiculously talented……….

Yvonne, to me is the absolute QUEEN not princess of tablescapes. I have never seen anyone with the talents that she has in creating the most scrumptious presentations….seriously droolworthy. And lets not even get started on her recipes. Get your pen and paper ready….this has more inspiration and knowledge than many books! When she has a new post, I know its a “do not miss”. I am always telling her she must put out a book, I would be the first in line. Her talents extend to her entertaining, her decorating and of course creating a beautiful home. She drives home one heck of a beautiful argument for refined country living. I think the pictures will do all the talking and by all means if you do not follow Stone Gable…you are missing out! Click here to visit her. The inspiration is just over the top. Enough of me, lets hear from talented Yvonne……

1.How long have you been in your present home? Is this it for the long haul? Anything you would change if you could?
I had the idea of StoneGable in my mind 5 years before we ever started to built it. It is nothing too grand or elaborate… but it is comfortable and roomy and perfect for transforming itself from a home to a hotel at a moments notice! People gravitate to StoneGable… and it is at it’s best bursting at the seams and full of loudness and laughter and antics! This is a home that wraps it’s arms around your heart!

StoneGable, circa 2009… lots of changes since then!

front porch sitting

back door

?StoneGable is a farmhouse inspired home with a big wrap around porch which compliments the beautiful bucolic farmland of Lancaster Pa. We have no close neighbors and are surrounded on all sides by farms and lots of rolling farmland. It is peaceful and private and is my favorite place to be.
looking out the back door
corn surrounding StoneGable in the summer
summer sunset looking across the field

?I think of living here as rural life at it’s best! Lancaster County is a strange-bird-of-a place. It is really a through back in many ways to a softer, simpler, less rushed way of life. There is just something wonderful about living here! I am not a native Lancasterian, but have lived in this area for over 30 years.

Family croquet game on the side lawn

?We live eight miles south of the county seat which is steeped in culture and history. Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington DC are all within a couple of hours from us.

Lancaster Central Market, the countries oldest farm market
StoneGable is our third family home and I would have a hard time leaving it… but eventually it will be too big for us and then StoneGable will need another family to fill it. I hope that is a long long time from now!
I have lists of things to change about StoneGable! Don’t we all? We are literally taking one room at a time and remodeling and freshening them up. We have lived hard and large at StoneGable for 18 years!
Right now we are working on the living room, dining room, foyer and front stairs at StoneGable. We do almost all of the work ourselves… so it is a very slow process… and very satisfying!
A weekend project… laying new floors in the dining room
Bobby starting to paint the dinning room trim
Aren’t I a brave one for holding a bridal shower when the dining room was not yet done?
If I could change 3 things right now I would add more light to our family room by knocking out a wall and adding a few french doors…I would build a bigger patio and put in an outdoor fireplace… and I would remodel our master bathroom now, and not next year!
2. If you could live in two rooms in your house what would they be?
My favorite place at StoneGable is my kitchen… no surprise to most. Our kitchen was built in our garage out of boards. Our builder’s father was an old fashioned cabinet maker and he fashioned our kitchen to reflect a farmhouse style… and then kicked it up a notch!

Cabinets made in my garage
Again, it is roomy and not too fancy, but has lots of charm. ?Two years ago it went through a face lift… we were very careful not to ruin the integrity of the cabinetry or it’s overall look.
My other favorite place is the swing on our back porch. I have never photographed it before! Maybe because it is a little part of my life I keep to myself! You can find me out there on many mornings with coffee and a bible in hand… or swinging in the dark marveling at the fireflies!
3. How do you describe your decorating style?
Oh my goodness!!! Is classic, farmhouse, casually elegant a style? If left to my natural inclinations I would be pretty formal. I love beauty and the stateliness of formality… but I also love comfort. Being able to flop down and not worry that I will ruin something! So there is a tension there, for sure!
The J&J guest room
Aprons on hooks
Gable Room, lots of antiques in here
?It just might be design hierarchy to admit that I am not all that enthralled with the current popularity of french decor. I guess it just does not suite where I live and I am a little too saturated with it.
4. Do you have a favorite color scheme??
Always… but it changes and evolves like my tastes. Right now I am in love with neutrals and the play of texture. But my all time favorite is blue and white…just like you Tina!
Fabrics and colors for the living room and dining room
new living room sofa with neutral pillows
My love for blue and white is reflected in many tables I set

5. Favorite room in my house?
Kitchen, it really is the heart of my home! And reflect our lifestyle the best.

6. Best two tips you can give anyone looking to decorating their home? Best two things not to do?
This question is tailor-made for me!!! As I said earlier, Bobby and I do almost everything ourselves.
I think the first tip when looking to redecorate is to have an overall vision. Spend time dreaming and looking through magazines and blogs and books. Have pictures of what you love… make lists of what needs to be done. DON’T ?go into any project without spending a lot of time planning it out. I guess that is the first don’t!
The second thing to do is to take your time and do it right! I am repainting and reupholstering eight eighteenth century mahogany chairs. What a job! But in the end it will ?be so worth it!
Here is the before… You can see we are also painting the living room in the background!
It was a saga getting the old fabric off!
And here is a peak at the new finish on the chairs. Come back later this week for the reveal of two chairs completed!
Another what not to do tips is… don’t be overly influenced by trends. So many trends are here today and gone in a year or two, so don’t sink a lot of money… time … or labor into things that you will get tired of. That is why I am so drawn to classic styles. I can add less expensive trendy accents and replace them when they look tired or out of style.
7. What do you think are the most important features for a kitchen?
Well… some I don’t have! When we remodeled our kitchen I desperately wanted a double oven and warming tray because I LOVE to cook! But, we could not fit it in without disturbing the integrity of the existing cabinetry. So I chose the cabinets that are such a treasure in StoneGable’s kitchen over the convenience of a double oven. I’m surviving just fine!
no double oven… only a cook top and one oven

One of the first things I baked in my new oven

I also am a huge fan of gas cooktops. I have never cared for electric.
Another must for me is a big pantry… and lots of room for dishes!
Pantry!
Lots of room for dishes!
But I think the most important thing to me is lots of counter space and lots of room for people to join me in the kitchen. Really, every gathering in my home begins and ends in my kitchen!

a favorite place to sit in the kitchen!
8. How do you like to dress up a cocktail table or console in the living room.
I’ll let you know… we gave away or sold ALL the furniture in the formal living room and right now only our new sofa is in it… actually tomorrow the chairs and the end tables are coming.
I have two gorgeous tall oriental brass lamps that my father brought back from Japan in the early 60’s( when I was just a wee girl)… and my mother has given them to me, so they will be a special part of my table decor.
I’m still working the rest of the details out… I’ll keep you posted!
here’s an old buffet I just painted for the dining room that is still a work in progress. It is ready for Spring!
here’s my family room coffee table decked out for summer

9. Any advice on the subject of lighting?
YES! NO overhead lighting!!!! Most people use far too little lighting in their homes… or the lighting is all on the same level. Lots of light and lots of levels. If you MUST have overhead lighting make sure it is on a dimmer and keep it LOW!
And I crave natural lighting! I would love to have more windows… and far less window treatments.

10. Have a favorite paint color, do tell?
We have just painted our living room and dining room Sonnet by Benjamin Moore. It is a very soft, light reflective white with taupe undertones. We have lots of white wainscoting and trim in those rooms and it looks marvelous with Benjamin Moore Atrium White.
looking at different colors?
I have the hardest time with picking out wall color… but I got Sonnet right!
Sonnet on the walls
11. What are a couple of really inexpensive things you can do in your home to make it feel “homey” and inviting?
Pillows! ?Pillows are like the love language of the house! They say, “let’s cuddle”!
?Pillows don’t have to be expensive. I get down inserts and make my own. I just change out the covers and keep using the inserts!
I just made these pillows this spring
fall pillows in the family room
gable room pillows
I think there is nothing more homey than a great smelling house!!! I love food scented candles and homemade simmering potpourri. Our very first home sold after being on the market for a very short time because the buyer loved it’s smell! I would simmer cinnamon sticks and cloves before each showing! How easy is that?

And it’s important to have a welcoming front door… clean, painted… a nice wreath. Your front door sets the mood for your home!

12. Fill in the blank… if money were no object the very first thing I would buy for my home is…
I am going to answer this question a little differently than it was asked.
I have a list in my head of home projects and things I would love to have that will take the next 10 years to complete. My home is really never done… and that’s as it should be!
?I think it is an important thing to cultivate contentment and gratitude for what I have. I try not to overlook all the work we have already put into StoneGable and the joy it brings us on a daily basis. There are so many homes that are more beautiful and better made and have more… but StoneGable is OUR haven… our gift from God. I feel very very blessed!

My front door is always open to friends old… and new!
Tina, thank you so much for asking me to share with you and your wonderful readers today! I am by no means a decorator or have your eye and talent for design… so this is a very big thrill for me to come by and visit at the ……….
THE ENCHANTED HOME!!!

Bravo Yvonne! I am so impressed with how beautiful yet warm and cozy of a home you have created for you and your family.? Those family pictures are incredible! And the country has always beckoned? to me and your home could be a single reason for someone to take the plunge….so idyllic!
You can almost smell the wonderful scent of homecooked goodness and feel the love and warmth! I love all your touches, your excellent advice from someone who knows and so agree about the power of pillows, gas ranges, taking your time with decor and making sure a home smells good.

Thank you so much for opening up your wonderful home to me and all my readers and to everyone for stopping in. Now….Yvonne is not getting off the hook so easily, she was way too modest about her insane talent in tablescapes and entertaining so I am going to just have to boast a little for her! Take a look at what this dynamo has done……..

And I remember when I found her….it was with this post of this most beautiful tea party for two!

OK, now do you see what all the fuss is about? And why I just had to do a little bragging on her behalf? Yes, she really is that good. I bet Marthas shaking in her boots:) Yvonne, you continue to inspire and amaze….all at the same time! I could go on and on but you will have to visit Yvonne to check out more of her wonders over at her blog. Click here to visit her and sign up and be a part of her beautiful world. Thanks again everyone! Wishing everyone a wonderful Monday and a good start to your week.

I am so impressed with how beautiful yet warm and cozy of a home you have created for you and your family.  Those family pictures are incredible! And the country has always beckoned  to me and your home could be a single reason for someone to take the plunge….so idyllic!

Late week musings……

Hi there and happy Saturday to you all! Took a three day hiatus, had a super busy chock full kind of week. Glad the weekend has arrived!!? Well don’t know about where you are but over here we seem to be regressing with regard to weather. We had a tease a few days ago with near 58 degrees and this morning its 28 with potential snow in the forecast…..mayday mayday! Its getting OLD!! Onto something good…

Something major has happened. Super major. I think as bloggers we all set little goals inside our heads. For me getting to 100 followers was a goal I remember early on, when it was achieved, I swear I did a little happy dance when no one was watching! 100 people in this huge world cared about what I had to say. Well……fast forward two years and another goal of mine was and don’t ask me why on this number (because I truly do not know) was to achieve 5000 subscribers. Ambitious? Yes, I agree, but somehow this was a goal.

And by golly, its been achieved. Is it really possible? 5 THOUSAND people want to know what I have to say? Seriously? OMG…this is really really big in my book and all I can say is thank you, thank you thank you. I am grateful for your friendship, the emails, pictures and support I get from literally all around the world. You cannot imagine the thrill it gave me to click on feedburner stats and see this- 5000 on the button on 3-13-13!!!! Lucky day afterall:)

Total Subscribers: 5,000

Moving along.…by now you know I do love my products. I love trying new things and love even more when I find a real winner. Well…I have found a few winners lately that I feel I must share. I know many of you savvy readers might already know about these products but they are worth the “shout out” just in case because they are fabulous, worth every penny and absolutely products that will become a regular on my vanity!!

7 second leave in conditioner/detangler…this product is all everyone said it is. The girls at the salon I go to swear by this and they did not exaggerate. Leaves my hair (which tangles easily) very easy to comb through and feeling really moisturized. This is the best leave in conditioner I have ever used, its that good! I LOVE this product!! Click here to buy on Amazon.

OK, Marsha from Splenderosa, that glamorous mama who knows a thing or two about beauty told me to try this, she said it was like a healthy drink of moisture for your skin. She was right on the money!! She read that I had bought the caviar cream by La Prarie which I have to say I have only used twice because i got this first and have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way it makes my skin feel and look. Its a keeper so thank you Marsha. I could only find it on Amazon, click here to buy…..cannot say enough good things about this cream, great if you have dry skin!

Onto the house.…I play around a lot, part of the fun is moving accessories and things around. Its like the best science experiment in the world:) I changed things around on my living room console yet again and this scenario I believe is a keeper. I love the explosion of the white cherry blossoms which I just added to my oversized ginger jar, its dramatic and elegant and a great way to be greeted as you enter the room. I also added the two whiter jars on either side and a collection of some of my silver frames, take a look……

Have no fear…..a picture is being replaced in the empty frame!!

A peek into the library. Just about done in there, waiting for the small wet bar to be done, a final coat on the floors and its just about ready for its “close up”!

Books……can we seriously ever have enough? I dont’ think so. I finished The Red Book and have to say I really really liked it. Anyone else read it? Another fabulous book is The French Chateau. ? This is a book I have written about before, yes, its that good. I? just gave a copy to a friend for belated birthday,? and have given this a few times as gifts. Unfortunately I see its gone up in price which normally means there aren’t many copies around, but its sooo worth it as it truly takes you to a beautiful special place. She cannot thank me enough, she said it best when she said “its the next best thing to being in the French countryside and living like a true French aristocrat” this book is EXQUISITE!! It portrays beautifully the life, style and traditions of living in a French chateau and highlights many parties. weddings and other day to day? events. Every single page is breathtaking and if you like me, are an incurable Francophile….then by all means you must own this book! Click here to go to Amazon.
