Pillow heaven…..

Hi there! Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe July 4th holiday. Ours was relaxing and enjoyable. Our plans were slightly derailed (thanks to teenagers who would rather be with their friends than parents) but we ended up not taking our trip to Maine and instead ended up going to the Hamptons. I was at first, extremely disappointed but it turned out to be a lot of fun and we were blessed with amazing weather so no complaints….still got my share of lobster rolls, a bit of shopping, beachtime  and other indulgences! Maine will have to wait maybe until later in the summer. So its back to business and I must admit I missed blogging and checking in with all my blogging friends so it’s awfully  nice to be back!

I love pillows. Have a feeling I have a loooot of company. Lets face it, they are an inexpensive way to totally changing up a space without breaking the bank or having to visit your local furniture store for a total redo. They can  add so much to a space and today’s selection is as vast as its ever been. When I was looking for pillows for the loggia furniture, I was getting frustrated. I knew exactly what I wanted but I just wasn’t finding it. I found something pretty close at Frontgate but had a hard time justifying $160 a pop for a basic cotton pillow, not even including trim! And then even with that price tag I liked it, didn’t love it.

Soon I turned to Etsy, figuring there’s a reason so many talk about it and lo and behold I was in pillow nirvana. Suddenly I had too many choices…that should be my biggest problem! So I ended up ordering two batches figuring I would “play” and play I did. So below are pictures (some of which you might have seen) of the two sets of pillows…honestly love them both but Schumachers Chiang Mia has always had a special place in my heart so this is the one that shall remain. The others, the ikat might be used for the pool (totally works) or for the outdoor furniture on the main patio coming any day. I also am including my own little mood board of the final contenders and then the Etsy sites of the two wonderful women I dealt with who were both a total pleasure and produced high quality well priced merchandise! So here we go….

My mood board featuring the final contenders…it was a tough choice admittedly!
The first batch I got in were the ikat and geometric courtesy of  Motif Pillows. She has an absolutely gorgeous selection of pillows and I am certain I will be shopping with her again! Motif pillows were just stunning, click here to visit her online shop.  Below are a few of her recent offerings, all so pretty!

And here are my own pillows from her on display……

Then I got the pillows in from Studio Trullia  and it was love at first sight. She produces really high quality pillows and uses wonderful fabrics. Her customer service was fantastic as well as as her accommodations and turnaround time. Click here to visit her shop and here are a few pillows from her shop currently being offered, all gorgeous once again!

And here is my heap ready to find their home…..

So ultimately the Chiang Mai won out, I just love it..it is what was in my head the entire time. Waiting on two more lumbars and the solid ivory with navy tape (last pic) and I am done here. Really love the final result…….

I ordered two of these but in the reverse, ivory with navy tape…should be here next week!

And here are a few more wonderful pillow sources on Etsy worth sharing….

Ylaylas on Etsy

So the bottom line is this……….I found ultimately exactly what I had been looking for. LOVE what I have and cannot wait to do more! I don’t need to look anywhere else but Etsy, seriously there are sooooo many amazing pillow resources and for the most  part they are all so much less than their competition (the big names) plus I was happy to support a small business owner and in turn got exactly what I wanted.

So if pillows are by chance something you are in the market for by all means do take a look at the two resources I mentioned here and Etsy in general, there are so many wonderful finds! Happy pillow shopping and thanks for stopping in! Wishing you a wonderful weekend and be back on Monday!

Party central part 2!

Hi there! I so missed being here and chatting with all my friends (that would be you)! Back from a wonderful little getaway to the Richmond/Charlottesville area…so beautiful. Just loved it and could happily buy a beautiful horse farm, grow my garden and own my little interior design studio/shop and be one happy lady! A gorgeous part of the country.  Will be posting on it and sharing some of my beautiful pictures in the next week or so.

As promised here is part 2 of the party central post. If you  missed part 1 please click here. Two parties in one week is a lot and I am not sure I could pull it off again and though the day of this party I wasn’t feeling 100% it was amazing how I got a new pep in my step and renewed vigor  as all the beautiful details started coming together. I captured as much as  I could on film….(wish I had an in house photographer lol) and concentrated mostly on my table because I was so excited with how pretty it came out! Yes, I know some pictures might feel repetitious but what the heck!

Anyway, enjoy…..I made half of the food (all appetizers excepe one) and wish I had photographed them all….as they were sooooo good! Here is what was on the menu…

A huge beautiful shrimp cocktail
A large Italian antipasta platter
A pretty crudite with spinach dip
A large Mediterranean platter with hummus, pita chips and salsa
Thinly sliced flank with arugula on a baguette
Brushetta and parmigiano crostini
For dinner aka the BBQ
Flank steak
Grilled veges
Grilled corn
Kobe beef sliders
Barbecued chicken on the bone
Baby spinach Greek salad
Corn/tomato/cucumber salad
Grilled corn
Wild Rice

And I cannot believe I didn’t get my dessert table…there were so many scrumptious desserts! By that time of the night however, I think I might have been deliriously tired and anything that involved any extra work or an iota of effort was out of the question:) Many of you asked for my recipes from my luncheon so I have included them at the bottom of this post. Hope you enjoy this recap……

Setting up…which involved more than one argument between my husband and myself was ready to strangle someone, lets face it women just know “these things” more than men, well at least most women! . I envisioned one super long table for all 40 people until…..the weather forecastsers predicted rain right at the very time we invited everyone over (5:00)! So…..we had the big long table concept moved to the loggia  and all that furniture onto the patio. We had a plan B aka backup plan in case and got very very lucky, as the weather ended up being gorgeous with only one dark cloud that floated away with not a drop! But there are no mistakes in life and having the long dining table under the loggia worked out perfectly no matter what the weather as we got the most wonderful breeze, so here we go……

In process of setting things up……

You are getting a sneak peek at round 2 of the pillows  which I LOVE, (separate post to come later next week on pillows)!

Starting to put the table aka my vision togehter……

I kept adding “layers” more blue and whites with flowers and candles and hurricanes…..

Love the blue and white its so crisp and happy I went with navy seat cushions vs. the white……

At this point I am totally loving it……

Meanwhile back in the kitchen, the prep continues…..

And outside, it is done and I am absolutely thrilled……

Peonies on any table are always a thing of beauty

 Meanwhile outside on the patio…..

Before seat cushions and pillows……

And what a difference beautiful pillows make! Here is that second set of pillows (a post on these pillows to come)…..

Some of the food starting to come out (really regret I did not get all of it)…….

Sons taste testing to be sure they are “edible” 🙂

This was one fifth of the appetizers…..thankfully everyone came hungry!

Bar being set up……
Candles being lit…….

Love the lighting of the late day sun……

The sun was just starting to set and this is my most favorite time of day……

And just before we announced dinner was served took a few quick photos…..

And the next morning the remnants remained, a cigar box (empty) flowers just wilting a bit from the heat  and candles down to their wicks….

Hope you enjoyed! It was a total labor of love and my feet paid the price but it was so worth it. Everyone had a great time, they came at 5 and the last guest left at 11!  I had a lot of fun planing it out and seeing it all come together, afterall that’s the real satisfaction at giving a party, is seeing all your ideas come to fruition..its like an experiment every time. Getting it right with just the right foods, drinks and creating the right ambiance. Flowers, blue and white and candles always seem to work for me!  Now here are the recipes from the other day that so many of you asked about!

Baby spinach Greek Salad

Ingredients
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 cup olive oil

1 pound mini penne, or your choice of pasta salad shape (Bear in mind that baby spinach takes up some space, so you want a shape that isn?t too small that will get overwhelmed)
6 oz bag, baby spinach (I used a little more than it called for)
1 7-ounce package feta cheese, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 1 1/2 cups)
1 medium red onion, sliced
1 cup chopped fresh basil
12 oz jar (drained about 7 to 8 ounces) roasted red pepper (Trader Joes has a very lovely one)
1/2 cup sliced almonds, toasted (or pine nuts if you prefer)

Method
Whisk vinegar, lemon juice, and honey in small bowl. Gradually whisk in oil. Season vinaigrette with salt and pepper. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Cover and chill.)

Bring water to boil in pot.  Salt water and cook pasta according to package directions.  Wash and drain pasta.

Mix together spinach, feta, red onion, basil, roasted red peppers, pasta.  . Add vinaigrette; toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper. (Can be made 2 hours ahead. Let stand at room temperature.) Add almonds; toss. Serve at room temperature.

Peach Sangria (sooooo good)

Peach Schnapps
Ginger ale
Fresh peaches or frozen peaches
one orange
1 bottle dry white wine
Crushed Ice
Sugar
Fresh min

Take a big pitcher, fill with one bottle of dry white wine, about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of Peach Schnapps, add 5 fresh sliced peaches ( or one bag of frozen peaches) and 1 sliced orange to mix. Add about 2 tablespoons sugar and mix well. Refrigerate for at least an hour ideally for a few. Upon serving add about 1/2 liter of ginger ale and mix. Can serve with crushed ice, and I add several sprigs of mint if I happen to have it. This is a sure hit!  I normally do this x 3 to make a large amount..nearly everyone wants at least a second if not third glass!!

Chinese Chicken Salad

1 head of cabbage, 3 nice sized chicken breast, soy sauce, sugar, 2 bunches scallions, about 1/2-3/4 cup slivered almonds, 2 packs chicken Ramen noodles, one can lo mein or  rice noodles ( I use lo mein), 3 tablespoons or more sesame seeds, rice vinegar.

Shred cabbage very thin with a good sharp serenaded knife or a mandolin, which makes it easy. Boil chicken in salted water. When cool, shred to small pieces. Chop up 2 bunches of scallions. Bake almonds until golden brown. Add cabbage, chicken, scallions and almonds and set aside covered. In small mixing bowl, add about 1/2 cup soy, 1/4 cup rice vinegar, the sesame seeds, 1/4 to 1/2 cup oil (not olive any vegetable or corn is fine),the chicken seasoning packets from ramen noodles and 2 tablespoons sugar. Mix well, toss over salad up to 30 min. before you want to serve, add rice noodles at end. The original recipe calls for the ramen noodles (crushed first) to also be added but I personally prefer it without. Yum yum.

Thanks as always for stopping in to see whats new in my little corner of the world. I am happy these are behind me, and have a long long list of “to do’s” that somewhat fell by the wayside! So plenty  to do in the coming weeks to keep me busy. Very busy. Many house projects that somehow got pushed to the back burner…I am ready to take them on again!! Hope whatever you have in store for the coming weekend is fabulous and relaxing. We have a party (thankfully I get to be a guest…woo hoo)  to go to so back to wardrobe woes……gotta get busy! Wishing you a wonderful Thursday afternoon and fabulous weekend. Talk to you soon…….

PS If you haven’t already you must go visit my friend Melinda of Georgica Pond’s  new blog by clicking here. . It is so spectacular and worth a visit..if you like what you see, leave her a comment telling her so! She worked hard on it and it shows:) Great job Mel!

A serious blue and white pillow quandry!

Good morning! Oh my gosh…..it is feast or famine. When it comes to blue and white anything……there really can be too much of a good thing! In trying to add some finishing details to my covered porch……I couldn’t find any pillows I loved, now I have found over a dozen and cannot make up my mind….HELP!  I have never admittedly spent much time on Etsy so never really “got” it. Oh boy once I started looking for blue and white pillows however, it won me over. And won me over fast. I have been looking for about a month now for the perfect set of blue/white pillows and found a few I liked but not loved, at Frontgate but just could not justify spending $150 on a simple cotton pillow (not to mention I need a lot of them).

So by chance I stumbled onto Etsy and I was floored by the selection and the prices!  My only quandary now is narrowing it down..I want them all!! Which do you love the most? I always love to know your thoughts. I will be mixing and matching 2 or 3 different patterns and will have squares and lumbars. Here we go…….

Now here is where these bad boys are going…I want pillows on everything!

Just ordered  two garden seats for either side…..

Now do a visual with the pillows……..
(if you want to refer to any of these just say row A, B,C,etc……)

And then there were even more (some are repeated)…….

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6. I really like these three 6,7 and 8  a lot also….

7.

8.

9.

10. Love 10 and 11, one of the first I found that I loved!

11. I do  love this one too….

12.

13. These three were originally what I was going for…….

14.

15.

16. I like the colors and how fresh this feels….

17. Thought this was pretty and elegant too

18.

19. I like the idea of using a trellis pillow with a pattern

20. I like this a lot too

21.

22.

And just when I thought I  couldn’t take another batch of blue and white temptation to confuse me even more,  today I found these……….and I really like these too!

I have seriously not been this confused in a long long time.Normally I see something I want/love and just go for it. There are so many combinations here I am loving…… I seriously want them all!! On top of that I need to make a quick decision, we have a Fathers day party happening and I would really like to have the loggia almost done (or at least as much as possible).

Could I change out the pillows monthly? Just kidding kind of. So many beauties!! Help…need your input!  What’s exciting you here?

P.S.Also if you missed my sale on enchanted items, click here. There are still a few goodies left, I have indicated which are sold. Thanks!

My little party last Sat. (well not so little it was nearly 100 people)  turned out beautifully especially thanks to the glorious weather. I could not have custom ordered more picture perfect weather, seriously it was incredible! I had a photographer here and have a few of his pictures here and a little  peek of what I took with my iPhone (I got so caught up in getting everything together that I eventually had to put my phone down and get busy)!

I finished with my planters, added white flowers (big fan of white flowers against green). The only planters not staying are the big square ones in the back, not my thing and I am not a huge fan of that style tree in it, but until they get picked up, here they stay and they kind of “blend” anyway so it is fine for now……

(This was before I got my furniture, got the furniture in a few days later…just as well)

Food arriving…..

And a few pics from the photographer as things were getting set up……

Are you a shoe girl? I love shoes and have a a closet to prove it but must admit comfort trumps everything…so I have stayed true to my love of flats, and am a big Jack Rogers fan. I just ordered the new Georgica sandal which I think is so chic (and comfortable), it looks great in every color! Click here to visit good ol’ Jack.

Thinking of ordering these pillows from Frontgate (Sunbrella material) for my loggia…..

Here’s the loggia as a reminder with my new furniture which I am crazy about,  if you missed my whole post on the loggia unveiling, click here.

Shop news….. Just added this gorgeous new planter to my statuary line. It comes with or without the pedestal. I just ordered both and cannot wait to get them! This line is one of my favorites. I have ordered many planters and statuary pieces for people that had certain size requests. The line is very extensive and truly fabulous! If you are looking for a specific size, let me know.

And got this new style candle from the beautiful crystal urn gardenia candle line say hello Lacey….isn’t she pretty! The smell is intoxicating, definitely my favorite candles in the whole world!! One of the great things about these candles is that they are poured into these lead crystal containers that when empty are wonderful decorative objects that can be filled with candies or you can send back for a refill! (this will up on my online store by Sunday)

Sunday around here…..

Hi and happy Sunday to you. Feel like I been “missing in action” a little this week….its been an exceptionally busy week, and this coming week promises to be more of the same. So I am really looking forward to a total day of downtime today, to catch up, take a deep breath, take Mr. Teddy for a long walk and maybe even catch up on some reading.

How about you? Is the weather finally thawing out over there? As the weather seems to be getting milder, there are small signs of spring sure enough blooming around here, small signs but signs! I have finally started venturing outside again after what seems like an endless winter, took a few pics along the way of what’s going on……..

I started planting my planters inside when the spring bug bit, even if I couldn’t get outside, I was determined to feel a little spring inside……

Hard to believe just two weeks ago we had this…….

Then the thaw finally came and Mr. Teddy reclaimed his perch outside………

So I went for a long walk on our property and only then was I struck by the degree of devastation from Sandy, I lost count of how many trees had been lost, and whose very old trunks had to be cut down into firelogs…..I think we have enough firewood to furnish a small country, it was unbelievable! This is only a fraction…….

Everywhere I walked, there was another neatly stacked collection of wood, a bittersweet reminder of Sandy’s destruction…..

?Teddy missed his walks!

?Teddy next to a huge uprooted tree, this gives you some perspective on the size of some of these lost trees!

And though we are a long ways away from things looking green and spring-y, slowly that pale straw color is giving way to more green…..

?Not sure if I showed you my new lantern (from Arte De Mexico) we had one made just to be sure we love it, and we do!

?The breakfast room side…..

?The first blooms……very exciting!

?And finally for the first time, I sat here in the loggia with a book….it was so wonderful and peaceful, my new favorite spot, that I think I am going to be spending a lot of time in!? I ordered new furniture due here in a few weeks…..

So that’s a little peek into whats happening on the outside over here. Lots more to come, but it was so wonderful to finally get outside, breath in that fresh air, get a glimpse of a budding flower or two and take Teddy on his beloved walks that I know he has missed. Slowly we all come out of hibernation and I know the best is yet to come. Wishing you a wonderful and relaxing Sunday!
