Bloggers buzz on holiday gifts part III!

Good morning! Well here I am again with my final installment of bloggers ideas for holiday gift giving. And talk about closing with a showstopper! So many amazingly gorgeous ideas here, I would be tickled pink to receive any one of them and if the recipients on my list are very very good…thy might benefit from this scrumptious list of goodies!? I am so grateful to all the many talented bloggers who joined me in this fun series to kick off the magical holiday season. I am happy to say my very first purchased gifts of the season are thanks to some of these wonderful ideas. Hope you have also found it helpful in your own gift giving. Ready for some more? Let’s go……

?
?Sharon from? My French Country Home says.…..

If I were to pick gifts from my store for two girlfriends , then I would most certainly want to offer them something very French, that would embellish their home, and make them feel comfortable and feminine.
And to a dear friend who lives in a part of the world where the temperatures easily soar skyhigh, I would offer her one of these hand embroidered nightdresses, pretty enough to be worn as a dress and always so cool and? comfortable.? These nightdresses are over 100 years old, yet are still snow white with their orginal tiny buttons down the front.

To my friend who loves to read, and who has just redecorated her bedroom in a pale palette of cream and verdigris, I would love to gift her these old French books.? Their decorative covers and spines would make her think of France each time she looks at them, and they are pretty enough to be on a bedside table, or even on a dressing table.

?Hi Tina, Thanks for including me ? I am thrilled to be part of your series.? xoxo, Phyllis

When buying presents for friends and family at a distance I like to send a little piece of Vermont and local glassblower Simon Pearce?s shop is my go-to gift resource. Whether you are shopping for someone whose style is traditional or contemporary, formal or informal, among the store?s hand-made glass, pottery and accessories there is truly something for everyone.

At the top of my list this year are the Thetford Globes which have the most radiant effect when illuminated and, to me, resemble how the ice on a pond freezes. Clustered on the table or the fireplace mantle they will add a glow to every room.

For local friends I like to give something unique and that can?t be found in our area shops. That endeavor takes me online and to Jayson Home where I can always find something for ?the person who has everything? and where I recently sourced my own birthday presents (they were presented to the family for wrapping prior to the big day.) For this year?s holiday gifts I will shopping their selection of horn vessels.

I love the organic nature of the forms, the color gradations, and that the pieces are multi-purpose. The cups, bowls and covered dishes can be used tabletop, as desk accessories or to display other treasures.

Many thanks, Tina for including me ? I am delighted to be sharing ideas with your readers ? with all best wishes to you and yours for a happy holiday season! Phyllis at Henhurst Interiors

Sharon of Roses and Rust says…

?Hi Tina, Thanks for inviting me to contribute. What fun to do,?and so hard to limit to two. But after much deliberation, here are my two gift choices.

I would love to give someone any ceramics from this exqisite range. These items are all handmade in a studio in South Africa. The studio, called Mud Studio,?is situated in a rural area with high unemployment figures, so?provides fantastic working opportunities in the area as well as imparting new skills and knowledge to underpriveledged people. Mud?s elegant and earthy designs have won much international acclaim and can?now be found in designer stores across the globe, like the Conran Shop and Anthropologie.

?
I would love to give a friend a set of these bath or hand towels. They are a cotton and linen mix are made in South Africa in a mill outside the lovely?coastal town of Plettenberg Bay. The owner of the mill worked as an apprentice in the silk mills of Yorkshire in the UK as a teenager?and has had a lifelong passion for?textiles which is evident in the?outstanding quality of these products. They?re versatile; ready for use in the bathroom, alongside the pool or on the beach and what?s more they are environmentally friendly. I?have a set of these hand towels and they look as good now as the day I got them.

Hi, it’s Debby from Inspired Design! I’m guessing you could probably find all of your Christmas gifts right in Tina’s gorgeous shop. Let’s face in, the girl is amazing. Who is with me in insisting that she needs her own HGTV series? Love her! If you have already purchased one of everything from Tina and are looking for a few more ideas, then here are a couple more.
I love the Stella + Dot line so much that I decided to sell it. They have recently expanded their jewelry line to include scarves, wallets, phone cases and candles. This Christmas season you can give a long distance relative or friend an e-gift card?in any amount from $25.00 to $1000.00. Easy peasy. I’m also loving the deliciously scented candles. The candles make great a hostess gift or fun little stocking stuffer.

J. Crew?is a no-brainer in my opinion. The?peacoat is a timeless winter staple and I love how it’s been updated in vibrant hues. They have a variety of unique little stocking stuffers as well. I’m loving the anchor phone case and key chain.?
I recently visited Nantucket as part as my travel series and spied these Ugg Australia Tech Ear Muffs by in one of the shops. Brilliant. Perfect for the walkers who live in cold weather climates. Of course, the tech gloves are necessary too if one is to be changing the iPod music as well!

Thanks for having me, Tina! I always love visiting my favorite girl. Hope Everyone’s holiday season is off to a lovely start. Gifts are great but there is no greater gift than giving those you love, your time, your ear, a soft place to fall, a loving embrace or a laugh to share. There is no greater gift than your love year round. Share your heart, love big, don’t hold back. Happy Holidays!

For the Francophile
The Christmas gift I wish I could give a bunch of my girlfriends is a do-over on a Paris trip we took a few years ago. The next best thing? Give them something that reminds them of our perfect day at Versailles. This gorgeous new book, Versailles, from Valerie Bajou looks like next best thing to a real life exploration of the palace with lots of history and plenty of gorgeous photos. Add a macaron candle from Voluspa and some Marie Antoinette Tea from Debauve and Galais and it’s almost as good as being there!

For the Hostess
With so much to celebrate this time of year, I like to stockpile hostess gifts to make sure I’m never without. Mrs. Lilien’s Cocktail Swatchbook brings swanky fun to a party. And, when you add some vintage cocktail glasses (you can find a great selection on Etsy) and some personalized cocktail napkins, you have the perfect Christmas present for the friend who can turn any day into a party.?

For the Chef
The Canal House cookbooks are fun to read, simple to follow, and pretty, too. And they are so well-priced, you can afford to give your favorite chef the whole series.? Amazon’s got them, or if you are in Seattle, pop by Red Ticking for a stack, you’ll find French tableware from Sabre and linens from Libeco to pair with them.

For a Cozy Weekend at Home
I love being treated to a new pair of pajamas at Christmastime. This year, JCrew’s Liberty print PJs are definitely on my wishlist. But which to choose? The blue and white paisley, or pretty floral… Both, please!

I was so excited when Tina so graciously asked me to be a part of this gift giving series! I always leave inspired every time I stop in for a visit with Tina and her incredible blog and I am thrilled to share some of my ideas for Christmas gifts!?Because I own my own shop I am quite partial to the items we carry! Christmastime is a very fun time for us because we get to share our most special pieces with you?

First on my list for you to think about is our wonderful line of Sennod jewelry. Sennod is based out of New Orleans and we are grateful to be the exclusive boutique to sell her quality pieces..each vignette is handpicked and we order the chains as we see fit. The lengths vary as well as the silver or the gold. The vignettes are interchangeable so once you have the chain, you can continue to add to your collection of Sennod pieces! You cannot go wrong with a piece of Sennod to add to your collection. Our?customers are?definitely?repeat?customers?for this discriminating style. Each vintage piece definitely reflects the fact that it was found at an antiques shop! We love having the freedom to do something fun and “frivolous” along with selling antique furniture!
?

Another item we are loving for Christmas gifts and for the Holiday season are our many pieces of fabulous artwork! How can you go wrong by giving someone the gift of art? If you are worried about a large painting being too much then give them?hand painted?wine glasses or an “itty bitty” by Melissa Payne Baker! I promise you , it will be a gift that is long?remembered! I’m giving?my mother a tiny?landscape?painting that she picked out and I am so?excited?about it! Melissa was voted Atlanta’s number one artist for 2011 and 2012 ?as seen in Jezebel Magazine. Take a look at a few examples of what I am talking about and you will see why a piece of art of any?kind by Melissa would make anyone very happy this Christmas!

Thank you, Tina for including me in this fun blog post at such a special time of year!

Weekend musings……..

Hi there…time for my random musings and I have a lot to say so consider this a forewarning, this is one long post. Take an extra few minutes, kick back and relax!! Hope things are going well over there…here things are starting to calm down. Our gas lines are easing, power is just about back everywhere, trees are getting cut but make no mistake there is still tremendous need and so much loss. I continue to look for ways to help/contribute because I know for way too many,? the word “normal” is many months away. Thoughts and prayers go out to anyone in Sandy’s path still dealing with the devastation and destruction.?

?

?

I was in Boston last weekend and one of the fun things I got to do was meet up with my buddy, Amy from Maison Decor. I call her Superwoman because well, there’s simply nothing she can’t do, she is super talented, has a fabulous eye, and just opened up not one but TWO amazing stores in the Boston area. When Amy does something…she goes all the way!? She is the “go to” person for Annie Sloan’s chalk paints and has all these amazing workshops, I hope I get to attend one one day, it would be worth the drive!?

She makes everything look so easy and? I am in awe every time I visit her. She is one of those people who might talk about painting a room in the morning and by night, its a done deal. She has a newly painted room, the furniture’s been put back….yep, one of those….. a doer!! Here’s some highlights form her beautiful store? in downtown Boston…..she is now selling online too, so click here to visit and see her gorgeous assortment of French goodies. Thanks Amy for a fun visit!

?

Come on inside…..

There is pretty Amy “doing her thing”…….shes such a happy shopkeeper!

This is kind of like an “artists alley”..its lined with loads of galleries and restaurants…..neat!

This brick wall is paying homage to art, and the freedom to express…..
A close up of the wall

? And my pretty goodies I took home with me from Amy’s shop……can never have too many gorgeous silver water pitchers, can you!

?

And she was so sweet to give me a gift…gilding wax/paste! I love this product. OMG..you could go a little bonkers with it and forewarning a teeny tiny bit goes a loooong way. It allowed me to touch up on a spot on my bed, a frame and then I set my sights on “enchancing” the ant. brass hardware new to my island. I love it but remember thinking I wish it was 20% brighter…well this magic paste did just the trick! I had such fun going to town…..its subtle but noticeable. Thanks Amy:)

First cup bin is done…see the extra little “pop”

Can you believe in the middle of all the hurricane chaos, we attended a black tie wedding? And not just any black tie wedding but a fancy schmancy one at the infamous Plaza no doubt! It was spectacular beyond words…they must have bought up every orchid this side of the hemisphere but part of me felt a little guilty about celebrating when there was so much suffering going on around us. Here’s a quick pic I snuck with my iPhone…..?

The grand ballroom decked out in gold and orchids……gorgeous!

Chocolate.? Please do not even tell me you don’t like it. I cannot be your friend if that’s the case. I LOVE chocolate. Have you ever had See’s candy? SO good! My mom and I both are big fans and I always give her a box for almost any holiday. I went to their website and they did the most clever thing…you can now customize the chocolate selections for your very own box. No more throwing out the cherries and half bitten ones that make you go “ewwhhh”.? How smart is that? So if you are a nut and caramel girl, you can have an entire box of them! I know I am going to be taking advantage of this wonderful “perk”…….love the idea of customizing your own box of chocolates. And trust me, people they are good. Heavenly, can’t stop at just one good. Click here to create a box of chocolates for yourself for the ones you love.

I continue to look for ways to help/contribute because I know for way too many,  the word “normal” is many months away. Thoughts and prayers go out to anyone in Sandy’s path still dealing with the devastation and destruction.

When Amy does something…she goes all the way!  She is the “go to” person for Annie Sloan’s chalk paints and has all these amazing workshops, I hope I get to attend one one day, it would be worth the drive!
She makes everything look so easy and  I am in awe every time I visit her. She is one of those people who might talk about painting a room in the morning and by night, its a done deal. She has a newly painted room, the furniture’s been put back….yep, one of those….. a doer!! Here’s some highlights form her beautiful store  in downtown Boston…..she is now selling online too, so click here to visit and see her gorgeous assortment of French goodies. Thanks Amy for a fun visit!

And my pretty goodies I took home with me from Amy’s shop……can never have too many gorgeous silver water pitchers, can you!

Behind the blogger…meet Amy from Maison Decor!

Hello and welcome to another Behind the blogger. Today we talk to Amy from the gorgeous and the ever so charming Maison Decor blog. Amy is truly talented and let me tell you she gets down to business and doesn’t fool around! When she says she is going to do something, she gets the job done right away, a girl after my own heart! She has become a great “blog buddy” who offers great and sound advice as well. I am always in for a fun treat when I visit her blog, as she is always working on some wonderful and ?beautiful project in her home, from her gardens to using milk paint to repainting a gorgeous chest.

?On top of her wonderful design talents, she, I will have you know, was her town hero by being the chairwoman of the Sign Review Board and helped to write the ordinance to improve the downtown. Talk about a doer! She also was the pioneer of the Holiday House Tour and if you aren’t tired yet, she was also on the Historical Commission to create awareness of the beautiful old buildings in her community. Her own home projects are always fun and intriguing and highly inspirational. Much of what shes does looks like its right out of a magazine spread! Then you add to this creative talent, the fact that she is just a very nice person all around and you have a winning combination. Impressed and intrigued? So am I! If you aren’t already familiar with Amy’s blog, stop by and introduce yourself. You won’t regret it, I promise. So lets get started…….

Thanks Amy for participating!

So……. what inspired you to start blogging in the first place?
I discovered the whole world of blogging when I offered to do some design work on my son’s girlfriend’s blog last spring. That is when this incredible world opened up to me, and I just jumped right in, head first!
How did you come up with your blog name?
First of all, I love all things that are french inspired. While trying to come up with a blog at my computer, above my desk was a frenchy sign that said La Maison Rococo…and since I am a decorator, I just put Maison with Decor to indicate a house of decor.?
Do you have a favorite all time movie?
Out of Africa~it encompasses sweeping romance, great interior design and the tale of an inspirational woman who creates an amazing world for herself. My favorite quote in the movie is when Meryl Streep’s character tells Robert Redford’s character, “I like my things”….when he questions her as to why she lugged her fine china half way around the world. Yes, I like my things too!
You get to spend a month in the European ?countryside…..is it Italy or France???Has to be France!
Favorite meal??A great strip steak and a Caesar salad. And a nice glass of wine! Maybe some tiramasu at the end??
Tell us as little or as much as you want to about your family.
I came from a big family, one of 5 kids and we lived all over the world as my dad was designing water treatment plants for poor countries. What a great childhood and experience we had growing up! I married very young and had 3 sons, my youngest is now in college. Divorced after 20 years of marriage, and ?am remarried now to my perfect match, who has a young son, and together with our dogs, we share a life that suits us both well. Happiness is not over-rated!
If you could have any career what would it be?
I love doing design work, but I would also love to have been an attorney.
Favorite design style?
French cottage~I like rustic, vintage and fancy lines all mixed together.
If you could only live in one color what would it be?
Winter white
Favorite season and why?
I love spring, for living in New England, we wait a long time to get these precious sunny days and signs of life in the garden.
Design icon?
I have a few, Phoebe Howard for a pretty room, Charlotte Moss for a collected over time look, Suzanne Kasler for a clean but feminine style, Bunny Williams for her garden style, and Rachel Ashwell for that wonderful cottage look that I am a fool for.
One place you haven’t?been that you want to visit-
Australia!
What’s your number one pet peeve?
People who aren’t straight forward.?
What are the two best things about blogging?
Design inspiration and friendships.?
You get to have a private dinner with any two people in the world, they can be from the fashion, design world, literary world, Hollywood, politics, etc….your choice. Who are the lucky two?
Rachel Ashwell and Oprah
Do you have a favorite saying or quote?
Wish it, Dream it, Do it!
Most overrated trend right now?
I have to say projects using burlap. The most uncomfortable fabric in the world!! Ugh!
Reading anything interesting that you want to share??I just picked up a large book by Home Depot at a used book store this weekend. It is filled with all kinds of projects from patios, walks, arbors and sheds. My bookshelves are lined with selections from Oprah’s old book club…but these days I am about hands on projects. I also have a pile of books by Betty Lou Phillips who writes the most wonderful books on French style.
You are 18 again. What do you do?
I would probably go to law school!
What are your plans for the summer?
We will spend some time at a lake cottage with the dogs and our little guy and then hit Martha’s Vineyard and visit with my parents and my youngest son who is working there this summer. In the middle of all that, my biggest hope is to build a charming garden shed out of old windows.
In ten years I will be………………..
Moving into an old farmhouse somewhere in New Hampshire and gutting the kitchen.
If you could live anywhere on earth and money was no object where would you go?
I would live on the seacoast in New Hampshire with an ocean view, a big yard with a country garden and a great big white clapboard house with a porch…with a tall flagpole out front.
Best tip or two for any new bloggers reading this…….
Write for yourself. Don’t worry about stats and followers, just make real connections.?
Blogging to me?is ?exciting?and?inspiring.
Give me four words that describe your personality.?Straight forward, determined, helpful and impulsive (especially with paint)!?

Thank you Amy and now a little recap on all about Amy…..

Thanks again Amy! I read through her interview nodding in agreement at so much of what she said, its no wonder I like her! ?Do stop by Maison Decor....you will be happy you did! Enjoy your day.
