It’s all Greek to me!

Hello there! I have developed a serious Greek key crush. I am not sure how or when it started, but Mary as in Mary McDonald just might have something to do with that:) I love her style and abundant use of this very classic and elegant design motif. I have found myself drawn to many things featuring the Greek Key, and have purchased trim recently for pillows for both my living room and my bedroom. I am on a bit of a “Greek key” kick. How about you? Like it as well?

Today, a post all about how fabulous this motif looks in a variety of settings and styles. Whether in a traditional or modern home or something in between, it just works!  I have to say it’s such an elegant, clean and beautiful look….I think its here to stay! Hope you enjoy……..

Well…..what do you think? Ready to go Greek? Do you like the look of adding some kind of Greek motif to a room as much as I do? What is your favorite way to use it? Do tell! Thanks for stopping in, wishing you a fabulous day.

Gaga for green! And four giveaways!

Good Sunday evening to you. Hope you have had a wonderful weekend, today was a lazy day and boy did it feel gooooood. Long overdue, and so wonderful!

This is a post I “found” in my draft box, one that somehow never got posted!! And there were too many pretty rooms for this to not be shared. In addition,  I am offering a handful of wonderful giveaways in celebration of mothers everywhere (we all know by far, the hardest job there is)! All details for giveaway at bottom of this post.

I am having a serious green crush lately. I mean I have always loved green, but I am loving it on a whole new level now. I was at someones house as a guest and have to say I fell head over heels over a dark green paneled library she had. If I had known her for more than four hours I would have certainly asked to take a picture! It got me thinking about how fabulous (and sometimes underrated green rooms are)

And not just  your light and soft greens, but GREENS. That means those stunning rich mossy, forest, dark, jade greens. If you are gonna do it..might as well go all the way right? I have visions of moss green velvet in my library, with acres of green bullion fringe adorning them. Then I see a leopard ottoman somewhere in the mix, get the picture? So today’s post is paying homage to all things beautifully green. What do you think? Here’s a look at all the  many shades of green, all so very beautiful…….

There are greens, and there are greens….and this sumptuous green chinoiserie is just on another level! LOVE! Winfield House

Love the idea of an all white patio with gorgeous lime green accents, Veranda

Hot off the presses, Peter Rogers shows green in all its gorgeous glory! AD

This is one of my favorite colors of green, a beautiful moss green….gorgeous! Traditional Home

Love the rich green paint here, looks like its painted over beadboard, makes it feel warm and cozy with all the paintings, Celerie Kemble

Love the soft muted celadon green in this charming bathroom, Barbara Westbrook

Mary McDonald transformed this space into the ultimate girly girls dressing room…..in all its green glory!

This gorgeous sitting room high in the sky is done in the palest silvery celadon…so luscious! Scott Snyder

Gorgeous bedroom done in soft greens with a transitional feeling, Tobi Fairley
Gorgeous painted library in a green I wouldn’t have thought of but boy, does it look fabulous!

Leave it up to Scott Snyder to take such a bright green and make it look this beautiful!

Adore the crisp clean vibe here of this mostly white room with pretty green accents

Bunny Williams took a dark paneled room and gave it new life with a beautiful moss green shade

Green in the kitchen is a real statement and Michael Smith nailed it with this one if you ask me!

Green is always a sure thing for an elegant sun room, its the color of nature after all!

This room feels so fresh, current crisp!  House to Home

Janet Rice created a beautiful green and cream cocoon of a bedroom
Adore every singe thing about this room..its as beautiful as it is cozy and inviting!

I like the way the green on the bed is the sole punch of color, it makes the room feel fresh and crisp, Homes Ideas

Somehow this works…the green, the purple the blue and whites, gotta hand it to her, Katie Ridder

Lawrence Boeder makes a bold green statement in this interesting sunroom
Really love the bold play on color and pattern here, it just works! Sherill Canet

Gorgeous pale green toile bedroom, to me, this will always be such a classic timeless look. Elle Decor

Love this rich green library that belongs to Dick Ridge…so great looking!
Greens mixed with blue are a true winning combination. LOVE this room!!

Stunning sun room, so uplifting, fresh and crisp!
Lawrence Boeder

John Willey used a natural color and texture of light brown beautifully in this charmer of a bedroom

The velveteen habit………

Good late Monday afternoon sweetpeas, and how was your weekend? Ours was unexpectedly relaxing, spent a lot of time at home (always a treat) as we were trying to dig out of the approx. 22 inches that fell around here! It was quite the snowstorm. If you missed my pictures, seeing is believing you must check it out, click here. Now that mother nature has shown us who‘s in charge…I am totally ready to zoom into spring!

How I love velvet…. I actually always have had a thing for it but in recent years, my love has escalated to an obsession. And there’s no cure in sight. Kind of like the blue and white affliction….oh well at least it’s all in the name of beauty. I adore velvet, its luscious texture, soft sheen and coziness make it a fabric I could easily have in every room.

It is as beautiful in a living, dining or library as it is a study or bedroom. Add a beautiful trim to a solid color velvet and the result is nothing short of spectacular! As I am decorating my own home, I have more than a handful of ideas of how and where I plan to incorporate velvet. And seriously this is one fabric that looks just amazing in every single color, I have yet to see a color it doesn’t rock in!

Stunning! Velvet is so beautiful in a rich hue like this blue, and the tufting is like the icing on the cake! Atticmag

Chad Eisner chose a slate gray velvet trimmed in a contrast piping for this elegant room
Christina Murphy added the wow factor to this room by installing a kelly green velvet sofa with contrasting tape….beautiful!
Sandra Nunnerly created this gorgeous living roolm with warm toned velvet upholstered pieces..love it!

A gorgeous chaise in purple velvet in this sitting area is gorgeous, AD

Love a velvet ottoman, especially this beauty in navy with nailheads, stunning!
Thomas Burak designed this magnificent moss green beauty….love the addition of decadent trim

This beautiful dining room gets a periwinkle velvet to grace its chairs, HB

Gorgeous teal antique French bench in this elegant foyer is just stunning! Atlanta Homes

A sleek blue sofa in gorgeous blue velvet, My Chic Nest

Using velvet on a statement piece like on this gorgeous French chair has given me a few good ideas, Mary McDonald

This dark moss green is one of my absolute faves, then add the tufting+ perfection!
You know I love this pictures, velvet dining chairs AND blue and white porcelain ginger jars= perfection! Nantucket showroom

 A velvet headboard….gorgeous! House Beautiful
Creamy velvet……absolutely gorgeous! Bobbi Smith
Gorgeous in gray….love the gray velvet sofas in this beautiful room.

Purple never looked so good! AD

Gorgeous greens in luscious velvet, Home Decor
Love these softly toned pale blue velvet dining chairs, Thomas Burak
Ashley Stark shows velvet looks picture perfect in any setting, including an eclectic transitional one like this.
Show me a gorgeous French chair that doesn’t look just amazing in any color velvet! Paris Hotel Boutique
Handsome green velvet sofa, trimmed in a contrasting grosgrain tape…another favorite look.
Love this tufted velvet bed! Sandra Nunnerly
Beautiful velvet chairs look smashing in this transitional living room, love the cool color palette

Sarah Richardson chose to make this pair of chairs the statement pieces in a cut striped vibrant velvet

Adore this banquette with large wide tape trim…stunning! Bayon Contessa

Curtains in a rich velvet are definitely a true luxury….love the soft gray here, Houzz

Mary McDonald is a huge fan and in this vibrant room, the result is dazzling!

So..what do you think? Does this want to make you run out and cover something in velvet? Or maybe you already are a fan? Do you love it as much as I do? What is your favorite way to see velvet? Color? You know I love to know your thoughts.  Have a fabulous Monday evening and start to your week!

Happy New Year and Happy Anniversary! Your home is wonderful. I was so pleasantly surprised at Christmas by my two closest friends. They gave me the fabulous silver planter I have had my eye on for the longest time! I can’t wait to use it. So my next want from the store is one of the smaller silver planters. This is a bad (wonderfully bad) place for me! Thank you.

So how is 2013 treating you so far? With the exception of my husband coming down with pneumonia, it was a wonderful holiday season. Funny,? New Years day unexpectedly ended up being one of the best days. First off, ? it was the first day in 8 days that hubs felt up to getting fully dressed and coming downstairs, then it was a continuation of our movie marathon, we watched Dances with Wolves, Meet Joe Black, Under the Tuscan Sun? and a few others, all the while I was cooking the entire day (but really loving it) I made beef stew, paninis, homemade basked mac, even small apple tarts..yes I was on a roll! My husband spent a lot of time exploring my blog and was thoroughly entertained and it was just a great family day, alongside a roaring fire, it was spent at home enjoying each others company….it was cold outside but really warm and cozy inside. So life is slowly getting back to normal after the holiday blizzard (not literal but the whirlwind). I have yet to take down any decorations…thinking I will give it another week, not quite ready to say goodbye to the magic of Christmas or the hard work I put into it:)

?

Today’s Which Would You Choose is a fun one. Roll with me here……the designer fairies have paid you a visit. Hey, its a new year…time for a change, right? They have told you that you get to have one designer of your choosing redo your entire home soup to nuts. Only catch? You cannot have any say, you are at their talented mercy and must go on a little “vacay “for a week while they work their magic. Which of these talented tastemakers would you trust to redo your entire home? Many if not most you know, but I have also included two pictures of their work that I think? represents their style. This is a tough one, though I think I have it narrowed down to two. No wait, I mean three. OK, two. Here we go…..so which would you choose!?

Which would you choose and 2 winners!

Good morning! Before we begin, I want to announce the two lucky winners of the French apron and monogrammed soaps! Thanks for helping me celebrate my two year anniversary,  I was so touched by all of your kind words. Congratulations goes to……
For the french apron, the winner is….

Thank you.

And the monogrammed soaps goes to….

So how is 2013 treating you so far? With the exception of my husband coming down with pneumonia, it was a wonderful holiday season. Funny,  New Years day unexpectedly ended up being one of the best days. First off,   it was the first day in 8 days that hubs felt up to getting fully dressed and coming downstairs, then it was a continuation of our movie marathon, we watched Dances with Wolves, Meet Joe Black, Under the Tuscan Sun  and a few others, all the while I was cooking the entire day (but really loving it) I made beef stew, paninis, homemade basked mac, even small apple tarts..yes I was on a roll!

Many if not most you know, but I have also included two pictures of their work that I think  represents their style. This is a tough one, though I think I have it narrowed down to two. No wait, I mean three. OK, two. Here we go…..so which would you choose!
