My newest obession…….

Good Friday evening to you….. I have always wanted to possess the talent to paint and draw and do it WELL. So before you get all jealous over my incredible painting skills, I have a little secret to tell you about……though this “secret” is really not much of a secret lately:)  I am actually not a half bad drawer but lets just say my painting could use some work:) Enter Waterlogue, the newest app which is being hailed as the next great thing!

It could not be easier to use, you download it, take a picture and before your very eyes within seconds a full color painting appears of your picture. It is AMAZING. And yes my OCD has me a little obsessed with it. I printed out a few of these and am thinking of blowing them up a bit and getting them framed…..I mean seriously how great is this little invention! The possibilities are endless and I am just getting started:)

I just took my iPhone around the house and started snapping away. (my blue and whites made an excellent subject and were way more cooperative than Mr. Teddy who finds technology ridiculous and gave me dirty looks while trying to have him pose)…..with a quick press of a button my images were instantly transformed into beautiful watercolors! So here are a few examples of how cool  this is, and if you don’t know  of it, I highly suggest you get it….I promise you will have a lot of of fun with it!

You can control many things, and there are about 10 options as to what kind of painting you want as well as making it lighter or darker…painting was never so easy:)

Now here are some other examples taken from the Waterlogue site……

It’s OK….go ahead call me obsessed, you are right, I will admit it:)  Until the next big thing comes along:) Seriously this is such a nifty little app……..with endless possibilities! I just may blow a few of these babies up and frame them..technically they would technically  be originals, lol.

Click here to find out more about Waterlogue, and thanks for stopping in. Hope you have a wonderful and enjoyable and hopefully snow free weekend!

Last day to enter your kitchen into my KITCHEN LOVE contest. I am starting the contest this Sunday one day ahead of schedule due to a few conflicts. Be ready to be wowed!! Send your pictures (2 max) to theenchatnedhome@gmail.com by Sat (noon is the deadline). Thank you!

A holiday recap and leaving on a jet plane……

Hi…wow does anyone else feel like December was just one big blur? I cannot believe Christmas and all the buildup has come and gone! So much fun, so crazy and chaotic, LOTS of work, endless cooking, food and cleanup…….and I loved every single minute of it. We had the good fortune to have hosted my family as well my incredible 96 year old grandmother…you heard right! I soooo hope just a smidgeon of her super incredible genes are in my body:) We had a blast…so much fun game playing, eating, cooking, entertaining, movie watching, you name it …..all that was on my wishlist was indeed accomplished.

On Christmas night, as we all sat together in my living room which looked all aglow with just the sconces on and candles lit, I for a brief moment looked around at all those I love and realized at that very moment that is what perfect feels like. We were all together in good health, safe and warm, and I felt so blessed at that very moment and to me, that was the essence of Christmas. So I feel incredibly grateful and will always cherish Christmas 2013.

I admittedly had a lot of fun decorating my home. Though I realized after years of collecting decorations that have red in them I am ready for a change. And had a “aha” moment while one day in Lord and Taylor’s holiday shop,? I spotted the most beautiful silvery and pale gray/blue garland. That is when I got my divine inspiration for a new direction. So I bought all they had and proceeded to transform my dining room with the new color scheme. By next year…I hope to extend it to the rest of the house. I may gather up all my beautiful decorations that have the red in them and sell them as one big lot, not sure. They have certainly seen me through some wonderful holidays…but change is good! So thought I would share a few final shots of the past few days when all decorations were completed.

This post is very picture heavy…..you might want to take a seat and grab another cup of coffee:)

I finally got my front door together. I kept it simple and elegant, lots of greens and magnolia leaves. I never got to do a few things I wanted to do, thanks to unexpected snowfalls and deep freezes so had to try to do what I could? in between when things thawed out…

Other festive vignettes around the house……

Every year I display my adorable ceramic holiday cupcakes in my domed displays……..

Just back from the local nursery with all my white holiday flowers ready to put into planters……

A Christmas gift to me from me started collected Royal Crown Derby’s Blue Mikado…..so pretty!

My dining room and its new gorgeous soft colored holiday decor…..

And I kept tweaking once I added all my white flowers…white paperwhites and white amaryllis!

?A few pics from my family Christmas party (as things were setting up)…..

Say hello to my GORGEOUS new blue pillows that I had made….in love with them (a Christmas present to myself:)

LOVE these pillows so much and got more of the velvet to make a tufted ottoman for my living room

Dessert is served…….

And Christmas day dinner getting set up…..

Since we needed two extra seats, set up this table for two….love a small intimate table, don’t you?

I just love setting up my table with the napkin rings, they always end up being such wonderful conversation pieces

Christmas night, my sons girlfriend and family were coming by so we set up drinks and a few things to nibble on…..

So that’s a wrap up of my holidays….so much fun, and so very memorable. Yes, my feet are tired and I feel a bit worn out but it was so worth all the effort, it was a truly wonderful and perfect holiday! I hope yours were the same.

?I am leaving for a much needed and much anticipated vacation to California. You can be sure my iPhone will be charged and ready to capture the beauty and inspiration that California always promises! I will not be around for the next week so look forward to catching up when I return on Jan. 5th. Late week random musings……

Hello. Hope you are having a great week, mine was spiffy and so busy (the steals and deals kept me on my toes all week)…..so crazy how everywhere I turn I am seeing something having to do with Thanksgiving or Christmas! It feels like suddenly the accelerator has been pressed and things are in fast forward…..I almost get dizzy thinking of what needs to get done but am determined to hopefully wrap it all up by the first week of December, because normally mid December I am ready and quite eligible for the local asylum:) All that aside, I DO love the holidays and all that goes along with it, giving, the foods, the weather, the decorating, wrapping gifts, holiday clothes, etc…….but I like when I can really savor and enjoy it, and that only happens when I am organized and stay on task so today is not a day too soon to start the planning!

Before I get started I announced the winner of the mega jackpot skincare from Avery Graham. Unfortunately the winner has not stepped up so I am giving it one more shot. If I have not heard back by Sunday morning, a new winner will be chosen. So Debra….time is ticking! Step right up to claim your prize!

Pink Opulance, opulence eye cream as well as the eye make-up remover that would be a good start to get me on track!
Thanks for the giveaway and insightful information

Anywho, moving along here is what’s new in my world……(all pics taken with iPhone as my camera was not charged)

MY HOUSE. I have some projects in the works. Got my first strikeoff for the dining room of the chinoiserie and while it’s definitely not right it does affirm my decision that this is the way to go and once we get the colors down, its going to be nothing short of spectacular. SO we are back to round 2 and think we are a lot closer now in terms of the colors we are using…cannot wait and of course will share! It is a definite labor of love but oh so worth it!

?The large sample though way too yellow…love the pattern, let the tweaking begin!

?Another smaller sample from long ago, as you can see the background is way off from the rug but you have to start somewhere!

?So my trusty little Benjamin Moore color cards have been making many visits to the dining room!

?And at long last, I have chosen colors for the next sample……fingers crossed!

My bedroom is also finally coming together.? Used this gorgeous cream and blue silk for my closet/sitting area and was waiting till it went up to decided if I would use it for the bedroom and indeed I am, I just love it. Its so soft and pretty and quiet just as I wanted it to be. I have been working hard to find carpeting, its a very large space so the challenge ironically hasnt’ been finding a carpet I like but finding one they have enough of. I have found the mills do not stock carpet the way they used to…sign of the times. So this is the one I can get the most of, it will mean not putting carpeting in my closet and small office, but having it in the sitting area and bedroom which really are most important anyway. So think this is the one and about to pull the trigger…woo hoo!

?It all started with this gorgeous paper from Stark (now discontinued, but available by custom order)

?So after months and months of thinking and looking (more thinking than looking) I found a carpet with just the right cream and just the right soft dusty blue

?And went back to the original trim from Clarence House that I am madly in love with!

?And the gorgeous cream and blue silk…….
?Carpeting
Ready to see the fabric in my sitting room/closet? Love it!

?Pay zero attention the that chair (my first big girl purchase at 22 from Century) still a great chair but am going to reupholster it and the tattered Scalamandre pillow (20 years and going strong) but wrong colors, etc……

?Another carpet that was lovely from Stark but it was too green, not blue enough…..

?Still love this linen, will do some pillows or something in this for sure

?Amazing how often we go back to our original choices…..that was the case with me and I am thrilled.

A GREAT FILM. I like movies of all kinds and I watched one somewhat documentary called “Red Obsession” which is about the soaring prices and unparallelled demand for the famed Bordeaux wines, and of course who is their number one consumer? The Chinese….it is totally fascinating and if this remotely interests you then I would highly recommend it. I know its available on Movies on Demand and I believe Netflix. Here is a sneak peek…..

GREENWICH, CT. I love this place! 15 years ago we had a deal on a house there that turned out to have some serious structural issues and we looked at it as a chance to reconsider and ended up staying on Long Island closer to family. However many many times I have thought and still think this is one of most beautiful places to live. I love Greenwich and if you ever the chance to visit, you absolutely should!! Went to a great restaurant Harvest (thanks Sandy from You may be wandering)? where I had the best shaved Brussels sprouts salad EVER. Then we went into some of our favorite shops including Rinfret (always a fave), here is a recap……

?Yes it really was THAT good!!!!!!!

?Isn’t this charming? I couldn’t resist taking pictures, they always do such a beautiful job…..

?Saw this beautiful very large ginger jar at Two’s Company and my blue and white radar went on high alert!

These next photos are all from Rinfret, which is all decked out for the holidays, its was so festive and beautiful……

GOOD FOOD. You know this is a favorite subject of mine! So two things to talk about. The first I was inspired to find, after eating that out of this world brussels sprout salad and I found one that seems to be very very close from The Divine Addiction. I am trying it this week and will let you know. In case you are interested…..click here for recipe.

Second one is something I tried and LOVED. Worth sharing…trust me on this. One subject I consider myself to be an expert on is food:) If you like puff pastry, mushrooms and Gruyere then you must give this a shot (I also add Parmesan) You can make one big one or cut them into squares as appetizers…..yum! Click here for recipe.

AN INTERESTING VIDEO. You might have thought of this, maybe not. What kind of mother are you? How would you describe yourself as a mother to your kids? How do you think your kids might describe you? This video is worth a look, it is so telling and so touching and makes me wonder how my kids would answer it. Really got me thinking.? Click here to see.

BABY LIGHT MY FIRE. This is for lovely Anita of Castles Crowns and Cottages. She had asked if we had lit the fireplace outside and if we did to please share a picture. Well Anita, this ones for you……wish you were here to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with me!

NEW CONTEST! The blue and white love was such a huge success that I am continuing on with another contest. The new theme is “Hooray for the Holidays“. I am accepting pictures for anything having to do with the holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas) up until Dec. 4th. I will run the contest through Dec. 8th and announce a winner on Monday, Dec.9th.

No rules…however you interpret “Hooray for the Holidays”. Could be a favorite meal, your home all decked out, your Thanksgiving table, a pet or child showing their spirit, etc…..I know I am in for a treat, your talents and inspirations always blow me away. Same rules, two pictures per entrant, you must put Hooray for the Holidays in the subject line of your email (I get a ton of email and dont’ want it lost in the shuffle).

Email me your pictures to theenchantedhome@gmail.com. Thank in advance for entering, you have a little over 2 weeks to send them in! I will also hold a Christmas themed contest in early Jan so get those cameras ready! Some ideas…..

SHOP NEWS. I have been really busy with my little shop. I was excited to help someone with 20 ginger jars for her daughters wedding, she promised to send pictures, I can’t wait! I also have some lighting that was custom done that went in which I will also share. I love nothing more than when customers send me pictures of their completed projects.

I am going to be doing a post in the next week? about various holiday gifts/promotions in? my shop as well as deadlines, because time is ticking!? I am also going to “close shop” for about a week before Christmas. The last day to place orders will be Dec. 14th until after Christmas. In the upcoming post I will also let you know about deadlines for things like monogrammed items, custom napkin rings,etc…..

On my recent steals and deals, I really hit the jackpot. I was lucky enough to have bought a large lot of truly exquisite items from a manufacturer who is restructuring and moving down south. His loss is my gain (and yours)! I have sold the bulk of it but still have about 10-12 boxes to unpack so who knows what’s in them! It’s like a treasure hunt with guaranteed treasure:) I am trying to move through them quickly to ideally get everything up, sold and shipped before Thanksgiving. I will post the newest finds sometime next week……

FINALLY,? as much fun as it is to talk about the fluff and fun of the things we love most……I must speak about the horrific events happening in the Philippines. The devastation is truly unimaginable. My heart breaks for all those affected. The rebuilding effort is going to take a very long time. But right now the focus is on the people and treating the hundreds of thousands who are injured, without food and water, shelter…people who have lost their families and everything they ever owned.
I always like to to help out in whatever small way I can, my only requirement is I want to know my donation is going 100% to the actual relief effort and not to cover administration coats!

http://www.directrelief.org/

I have given through AmeriCares? (who is also a non profit and a wonderful organization too) and thanks to Emily of Splendid Market, I also found out about Direct Relief, whose mission as a non profit organization is to provide medical relief around the world. That is the main focus for the many victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Click here to find out more about them. There is no amount too small, every dollar can make a difference. I hope you will consider donating.

Thanks so much for stopping in and I hope you have a wonderful and productive day! I enjoyed putting this post together and really enjoyed being all over the map with my random musings…missed these posts! I think the theme for November (for me at least) will be productivity. I want to get as much done before the Christmas crunch this month as I possibly can. Is there such thing as a relaxing December? Hummmmmm……..I will get back to you on that:)

A fall contest, a few fabulous books and late week musings…..

Hi and happy Friday to you! I am so sorry for all that craziness for my fall fabulous contest,  with having to remove two polls and cancel all the votes then resorting to doing it the old fashioned way (leaving votes in comments)  but it was important for this to be fair, sorry to everyone but I appreciate your patience! There appeared to be some glitches, with some votes not registering, etc….. I promise by my next contest this will be all figured out! Winner will be announced on Sunday. Voting will end on Sat. at midnight. Click here to place your vote and see all of the wonderful pictures my readers sent in..so many winners! (Remember you do not need an account to vote, you can just click on anyonmous or name and use your first name)

Hope you have had a good week……let’s get busy!

Moving along…..I love getting in new books. Lately I scored big time, with Suzanne Tuckers fabulous MUST ADD to your collection new book. Click here to preorder it.…is AMAZING! I recently received a few more books that look incredibly good that I hope to get to this weekend, they are still in their plastic waiting to be enjoyed…….

And then……

One day I got this incredible invitation in the mail. Soooo stunning, it nearly made me faint! An invitation to Howard Slatkins, the king of good taste book signing at Bergdorf Goodman. I am really hoping to go! Here it is……

Then imagine my surprise and excitement when a few days later…. I get a package in the mail. It was almost too pretty to open. The attention to detail did not go unnoticed.  And then I saw it was from “unmistakable Howard”…..check it out!

Then when I finally opened up the gorgeous gift wrap, I saw this card. Howard Slatkin is a fan of moi????? Well Howard the feeling is VERY mutual! OK, so this is one of those books that you need to be sitting in just the right spot to open, drinking just the right drink (coffee or after 5 perhaps a glass of wine or a martini, which seems fitting for the book). This book is tres elegant. Uber chic. So unbelievably grand, yes this is one of those showstopping really sensational books you need to get your hands on. The opulence drips off of the pages, talk about a book that “takes you away” . So click here to preorder it  on Amazon and Howard, thank you so very much! I really hope to see you at the book signing…….and in the meantime, your beautiful new book sits proudly on my coffee table!

Anyone who still uses a wax seal in their presentation is an instant friend of mine:)

A personalized message to me? This got me excited!!

This just oozes class and elegance!

Good eats. You know I love good food. I have to say I am a bit out of the loop when it comes to cooking for large groups or throwing a party. I am seriously considering having a big Christmas party but know if I am  that I need to commit NOW. It’s Oct. and time to set a date and start sending out save the dates since Dec. is such a busy month. I keep wavering…..anyway having about 7 girls over next week. Normally we go out for dinner but I am having them over for a tapas night. Just appetizers (most everyone’s favorite way to eat anyway)…that way you get to try everything. Thanks to my Pinterest foodfun boards, I do not need to look any further, got so many good ideas there!! Here is what I am considering…..

WARNING this will make you very very hungry…and diets must be left at the door!

 Love these individual Ceasars!

We are doing these mantles in an antiqued limestone, as opposed to marble and I think they are going to be amazing…

Boots. I love boots. I saw these on someone a few days ago and practically knocked someone over to go and ask the girl where she got them and whose they were. From Nordstroms and Enzo! Late week musings and a winner!

Hi there. Boy its been one heck of a  busy week over here! Hope you had a good week, the weather has been pure perfection. Just amazing in every way. So as these posts are all over the place, this one is much of the same. I am looking forward to a pretty relaxing weekend. Weekend visitors, a football game, gorgeous sunny skies….its all good! Had a lot going on and a little downtime sounds mighty good! Ready to get started, let’s go……

First a winner of the Staffordshire dogs, congratulations goes to……

Result:

Tina I would give them each a box of the monogrammed soaps put in one of those gorgeous silver small planters. What a beautiful gift that would make that they could remember your special day by. Love that idea and love this giveaway. Those dogs are so beautiful and your shop is my favorite online store!
Please email me your shipping details so the dogs can be on their way…..

Also my reader/customer thanked everyone for their amazing ideas! She decided to give monogrammed soaps and a small crested silver tray…love the idea, great keepsake.

MY HOUSE. Our house was used yesterday for a photo shoot! Details later but I took a few behind the scenes photos and it was quite exciting but a very very looooong day! I have a new found appreciation for all that goes on behind a photo shoot, making a movie or commercial…its intense! I am going to be doing a post on it but here is a sneak peek……..

A FUN VIDEO. This is hysterical, gotta love Marion Cotillard for doing this fun take on the fashion industry and boy this is not at all an exaggeration of how it appears so glamorous on the outside but its stressful, intense and cutthroat past the iron gates. Saw this on Sharon’s blog, My French Country Home and it is just too cute to not share. Be sure to watch it to the end, it worth it!

SOMETHING YUMMY. Come on, its the comfort food season:) I decided to try one recipe a week from my Pinterest food boards. I have a friend who is nuts for peanut brittle and since she has not been feeling well and house bound, I decided to try my hand at it and this was a serious winner. This is almond brittle and let me forewarn you now, this will render you helpless!  This was sooooo good, I was really glad I was giving it away. Really glad! It would not have lasted an hour around here:) Click here for the recipe and even for a non baker like me, I didn’t find it difficult..but oh so very good!

A FEW NEW BOOKS. Love getting in new books to review and a few that are wonderful and worth sharing are the following…..have a few others which I am getting to so will share those next week but in the meantime, these are both fabulous and must buy’s……

Suzanne Tuckers new book is SUBLIME. You must add this to your design book collection. It is a total treasure trove of the most gorgeous interiors….love love love this one!  I can see it will quickly become one of my favorites! Click here to order on Amazon.

Beyond Chic is a huge gorgeous coffee table book. This is a fabulous insiders peek into world famous fashion designers homes, it is so interesting! A great culmination of these fabulous designers and their sumptuous interiors. A fabulous coffee table book and a perfect gift idea for a fashionista friend:) Click here to order on Amazon.

BOOTS. Who doesn’t love boots. I was reading a blog the other day when a bunch of people chimed in about some of the riding boots being too narrow for their calves, apparently a common enough problem that Neiman Marcus has an entire category on their website now devoted to wide calved or extended calf boots!! How smart is that…..thought I would share:) Click here to visit, here are  few winners!

MY SHOP.  I did a whole post on my shop on Wednesday, if you missed it click here. I am excited for this weeks steals and deals! Check them out….limited availability.

1. Gorgeous assorted scalloped dessert/appetizer plates. Measures 6.5″ square. A set of assorted patterns is $38.00. So elegant, and a perfect size.

Also my Annabell Ingall bags are one hot item. I am super excited to be getting in a big order next week with all new fall colors. Amongst the goodies, I am getting in 14 pieces of this very sought after color, a rich neutral cognac,  10 are sold and 4 are up for grabs. So don’t delay, get inspired and send in your pictures, I know how talented and inspiring you all are! Max. 2 pictures per entrant….pictures  can be emailed to  theenchantedhome@gmail.com. I can’t wait to get this off the ground!! PLEASE PUT FALL FABULOUS in the subject line. All pictures must be your own. Thanks for entering in advance 🙂

So that my friends is a wrap up. Hope you enjoy a wonderful Thursday evening…..and a great end to your week. Hopefully I will check in over the weekend sometime but not sure as I have visitors this weekend.  Otherwise on Monday! Enjoy…..
