My patio, flowers, BBQ’s and The Hamptons!

Hello and happy Tuesday night to you……this post is a bit of this and a bit of that, all about my favorite things- flowers, cooking, decorating, the great outdoors and The Hamptons!

Got my patio furniture for the back patio..was so excited! It is beautiful, very comfortable and beautifully made. Now I have to get busy deciding on pillows (again) and various accessories, and will naturally add my trademark blue and white to the mix!

Have been out to the Hamptons and the North Fork quite a bit lately and am sharing some of those highlights too. Had a casual BBQ on Sunday and love nothing more than visiting a local farm stand and picking up fresh vegetables and fruits……I get so inspired. Also visited a sunflower farm and found the most sensational sunflowers. They are enormous? and are well over 2 feet tall….talk about impact! So its a little of this and a bit of that around here. Let’s get rolling……

Warning- VERY picture heavy, you might want to see this post sitting!

?Outdoor furniture!! Its a beautiful line from Woodard (the Landgrave division)? and I really love it, we have to now get busy figuring out pillows and accessories to add to the setting

This is just the start but I will be sure to share things as we go along……

The furniture is from Woodard Landgrave, a beautiful elegant beautifully built line of outdoor furniture

?Love taking pictures late in the day, that late day sun is my absolute favorite

?Love the elegant clean lines, now need to figure out pillows and accessories (the fun part)…..

?Tried out my loggia pillows, they are a little small but think the blues look beautiful…….

Meanwhile back inside getting ready for a casual BBQ on Sunday……

?The sunflowers looked so perfect with my beautiful melamine outdoor dishes from my online shop

?Love my sunflowers! They are HUGE, towering about 2 and a half feet!

?The spinach Greek salad that is fast becoming? a regular around here

?Hard to tell here but these scallions were almost 2 feet long! The basil was enormous too…..

?My delicious pistachio ice cream sandwiches. So easy and always a HUGE hit. I buy vanilla pizelles and get pistachio ice cream and open it up and then slice it, I add extra pistachios ground up…this is light, delicious, pretty and a perfect summer dessert!

?Tossing in the baked almonds to the salad
?Yummy peaches with fresh mint chilling for my trademark peach sangria, the perfect summer drink!

?Easy peasy, the wine doesn’t need to be expensive just a light dry white wine and Peach Schnapps, fresh peaches and mint, and then the ginger ale is added at the end…..so light and refreshing!

?Love a beautiful fruit platter…..found figs which was so exciting, they add a lot to any plate of fruit!

?Yum, let me do a “taste test”

?Am I the only one who gets excited over pretty tomatoes?
?The “sous chef” has decided he has earned a? much needed nap!
All the fixings for my crostini…a regular in this house!

Table getting set up

Veges ready to be thrown on the grill (I added sea salt and pepper and drizzled them with olive oil and they were fantastic)!

Meanwhile our driveway is getting done, its a mess but the end result will be wonderful…..

And to The Hamptons……

Sorry… I know this is cruel, espeically if you are hungry (which I am right now) and suddenly am craving a fresh lobster roll on squishy bread!

All of my favorite flowers at one of my favorite garden centers……

These orchids were AMAZING. Four stems…and HUGE!

And yes, of course one had to come home with me, it was begging to be picked and brought home!
If you are a hydrangea fan…you would have gone mad, they were there in every color!

Though I am not a big hibiscus fan, this pretty purple color got my attention…..

Loved this large boxwood globe (36″ round)

More flowers getting stuffed into the car…..
Never met a sunflower I didn’t love!
Beautiful Mecox Gardens
And the orchid beauty just continued to wow me!
Loooove farm stands, but I am sure you know that by now:)

And how gorgeous of a picture did these make? It made me want to plan a party around a sunflower theme!

?Love the farm stands…..they almost excite me more than a great clothing boutique (almost)!

?Beautiful vineyards…..
?An abundance of fresh fruit and flowers………
?Love coming home and “playing”….
?Charm galore!

?Even the storage sheds have blooming hydrangeas!

?And once again my backseat is loaded up with as much as I can squeeze into it
?Duckwalk is a wonderful conveniently located vineyard…..

?Another beautiful nursery…..
?Windmills to me are synonymous with The Hamptons
?As are roadside farm stands….
?And gorgeous sunflowers just waiting for a new home

?White hydrangeas always stop me in my tracks!!

Back at home put together a pretty casual arrangement? in one of my favorite blue and white bud vases

And the huge sunflowers in this large blue and white vase…love the color combination

And finally put my huge orchid in the centerpiece bowl on my island in the kitchen, love the effect
And my hydrangea in its rightful home……love this planter from my online shop
So that is a wrap of what’s going on around here. Trying to get into the summer groove and have to say this week it finally feels like I am. Love nothing more than a trip to the beach, a visit to my local farmstand, a car filled with fresh veges and fruits, flowers to come home and arrange, it’s all part of what makes summer so amazing and an equally good reminder to stop and smell the roses along the way!

?Some girls need diamonds and other expensive accoutrements (and believe me I won’t turn them down) but I realized the older I get the more I appreciate the simple pleasures in life………how about you? Whats your summer pleasure? Thanks as always for stopping in!

Party central part 2!

Hi there! I so missed being here and chatting with all my friends (that would be you)! Back from a wonderful little getaway to the Richmond/Charlottesville area…so beautiful. Just loved it and could happily buy a beautiful horse farm, grow my garden and own my little interior design studio/shop and be one happy lady! A gorgeous part of the country.? Will be posting on it and sharing some of my beautiful pictures in the next week or so.

As promised here is part 2 of the party central post. If you? missed part 1 please click here. Two parties in one week is a lot and I am not sure I could pull it off again and though the day of this party I wasn’t feeling 100% it was amazing how I got a new pep in my step and renewed vigor? as all the beautiful details started coming together. I captured as much as? I could on film….(wish I had an in house photographer lol) and concentrated mostly on my table because I was so excited with how pretty it came out! Yes, I know some pictures might feel repetitious but what the heck!

Anyway, enjoy…..I made half of the food (all appetizers excepe one) and wish I had photographed them all….as they were sooooo good! Here is what was on the menu…

A huge beautiful shrimp cocktail?
A large Italian antipasta platter
A pretty crudite with spinach dip
A large Mediterranean platter with hummus, pita chips and salsa
Thinly sliced flank with arugula on a baguette
Brushetta and parmigiano crostini
For dinner aka the BBQ
Flank steak
Grilled veges
Grilled corn
Kobe beef sliders
Barbecued chicken on the bone
Baby spinach Greek salad
Corn/tomato/cucumber salad
Grilled corn
Wild Rice

And I cannot believe I didn’t get my dessert table…there were so many scrumptious desserts! By that time of the night however, I think I might have been deliriously tired and anything that involved any extra work or an iota of effort was out of the question:) Many of you asked for my recipes from my luncheon so I have included them at the bottom of this post. Hope you enjoy this recap……

Setting up…which involved more than one argument between my husband and myself was ready to strangle someone, lets face it women just know “these things” more than men, well at least most women! . I envisioned one super long table for all 40 people until…..the weather forecastsers predicted rain right at the very time we invited everyone over (5:00)! So…..we had the big long table concept moved to the loggia? and all that furniture onto the patio. We had a plan B aka backup plan in case and got very very lucky, as the weather ended up being gorgeous with only one dark cloud that floated away with not a drop! But there are no mistakes in life and having the long dining table under the loggia worked out perfectly no matter what the weather as we got the most wonderful breeze, so here we go……

In process of setting things up……

?You are getting a sneak peek at round 2 of the pillows? which I LOVE, (separate post to come later next week on pillows)!

Starting to put the table aka my vision togehter……

?I kept adding “layers” more blue and whites with flowers and candles and hurricanes…..

?Love the blue and white its so crisp and happy I went with navy seat cushions vs. the white……

?At this point I am totally loving it……

Meanwhile back in the kitchen, the prep continues…..

And outside, it is done and I am absolutely thrilled……

?Peonies on any table are always a thing of beauty

?Meanwhile outside on the patio…..

Before seat cushions and pillows……

And what a difference beautiful pillows make! Here is that second set of pillows (a post on these pillows to come)…..

Some of the food starting to come out (really regret I did not get all of it)…….

?Sons taste testing to be sure they are “edible” 🙂

?This was one fifth of the appetizers…..thankfully everyone came hungry!

Bar being set up……
Candles being lit…….

Love the lighting of the late day sun……

The sun was just starting to set and this is my most favorite time of day……

And just before we announced dinner was served took a few quick photos…..

And the next morning the remnants remained, a cigar box (empty) flowers just wilting a bit from the heat? and candles down to their wicks….

Hope you enjoyed! It was a total labor of love and my feet paid the price but it was so worth it. Everyone had a great time, they came at 5 and the last guest left at 11!? I had a lot of fun planing it out and seeing it all come together, afterall that’s the real satisfaction at giving a party, is seeing all your ideas come to fruition..its like an experiment every time. Getting it right with just the right foods, drinks and creating the right ambiance. Flowers, blue and white and candles always seem to work for me!? Now here are the recipes from the other day that so many of you asked about!

Baby spinach Greek Salad

Ingredients
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 cup olive oil

1 pound mini penne, or your choice of pasta salad shape (Bear in mind that baby spinach takes up some space, so you want a shape that isn?t too small that will get overwhelmed)
6 oz bag, baby spinach (I used a little more than it called for)
1 7-ounce package feta cheese, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 1 1/2 cups)
1 medium red onion, sliced
1 cup chopped fresh basil
12 oz jar (drained about 7 to 8 ounces) roasted red pepper (Trader Joes has a very lovely one)
1/2 cup sliced almonds, toasted (or pine nuts if you prefer)

Method
Whisk vinegar, lemon juice, and honey in small bowl. Gradually whisk in oil. Season vinaigrette with salt and pepper. (Can be made 2 days ahead. Cover and chill.)

Bring water to boil in pot.? Salt water and cook pasta according to package directions.? Wash and drain pasta.

Mix together spinach, feta, red onion, basil, roasted red peppers, pasta.? . Add vinaigrette; toss to coat. Season with salt and pepper. (Can be made 2 hours ahead. Let stand at room temperature.) Add almonds; toss. Serve at room temperature.?

Peach Sangria (sooooo good)

Peach Schnapps
Ginger ale
Fresh peaches or frozen peaches
one orange
1 bottle dry white wine
Crushed Ice
Sugar
Fresh min? ?

Take a big pitcher, fill with one bottle of dry white wine, about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of Peach Schnapps, add 5 fresh sliced peaches ( or one bag of frozen peaches) and 1 sliced orange to mix. Add about 2 tablespoons sugar and mix well. Refrigerate for at least an hour ideally for a few. Upon serving add about 1/2 liter of ginger ale and mix. Can serve with crushed ice, and I add several sprigs of mint if I happen to have it. This is a sure hit!? I normally do this x 3 to make a large amount..nearly everyone wants at least a second if not third glass!!

Chinese Chicken Salad

1 head of cabbage, 3 nice sized chicken breast, soy sauce, sugar, 2 bunches scallions, about 1/2-3/4 cup slivered almonds, 2 packs chicken Ramen noodles, one can lo mein or? rice noodles ( I use lo mein), 3 tablespoons or more sesame seeds, rice vinegar.

Shred cabbage very thin with a good sharp serenaded knife or a mandolin, which makes it easy. Boil chicken in salted water. When cool, shred to small pieces. Chop up 2 bunches of scallions. Bake almonds until golden brown. Add cabbage, chicken, scallions and almonds and set aside covered. In small mixing bowl, add about 1/2 cup soy, 1/4 cup rice vinegar, the sesame seeds, 1/4 to 1/2 cup oil (not olive any vegetable or corn is fine),the chicken seasoning packets from ramen noodles and 2 tablespoons sugar. Mix well, toss over salad up to 30 min. before you want to serve, add rice noodles at end. The original recipe calls for the ramen noodles (crushed first) to also be added but I personally prefer it without. Yum yum.

Thanks as always for stopping in to see whats new in my little corner of the world. I am happy these are behind me, and have a long long list of “to do’s” that somewhat fell by the wayside! So plenty? to do in the coming weeks to keep me busy. Very busy. Many house projects that somehow got pushed to the back burner…I am ready to take them on again!! Hope whatever you have in store for the coming weekend is fabulous and relaxing. We have a party (thankfully I get to be a guest…woo hoo)? to go to so back to wardrobe woes……gotta get busy! Wishing you a wonderful Thursday afternoon and fabulous weekend. Talk to you soon…….

PS If you haven’t already you must go visit my friend Melinda of Georgica Pond’s? new blog by clicking here. . It is so spectacular and worth a visit..if you like what you see, leave her a comment telling her so! She worked hard on it and it shows:) Great job Mel!

My loggia reveal and a giveaway!

Hello and happy Wednesday evening. I just couldn’t wait to post this. OK first I want to preface this by saying this is not totally done. We had ordered lanterns but found out two weeks ago they are now out of stock until August. The search has resumed and I think we found a good one that is in stock so hopefully within the next few weeks we will have two beautiful lanterns gracing this space. Besides planters, pillows and other odds and ends, it is just about done. BUT the exciting thing is I got my outdoor furniture for the loggia. We are still short two chairs which are due in any day but I was soooo excited I just had to share! I LOVE this furniture, thank you Lane Venture for making it (you should check their website, their things are beautiful with a capital B!

So pardon my amateur photos but you get the idea, I even set up my table with all the different patterns of the melamine dinnerware and I had such fun. I have to say I haven’t been this excited over a new product as I am this, to be able to call outdoor plastic dinnerware exquisite is really saying something but it is! So enough of my gabbing…have a look!

Isn’t it beautiful!
Can you say L O V E!!!!!!!!!

The upholstery is done with Sunbrella…I chose neutral so I could change the look with pillows

Yes, it is as comfortable as it looks……

Love the big square coffee table
And matching end tables
Here is the table all set up…….

?This is the Provence pattern……

?Don’t you just love the wicker serving pieces and how much do those plastic glasses look like glass!

?Love this set!

And the beautiful Amalfi…….

And the Provence yellow…….

I like the idea of mixing and matching patterns…..

I like the way the blue glassware looks……

And finally the Laguna……

These are the basketweave serving pieces that are about to be added, they come in 5 sizes and are beautiful for any outdoor table….just got them in!

Well…what do you think? You know those wonderful little wicker spreaders in the last picture? Well I am giving away a set as a giveaway. They are sooo pretty! And wonderful for any summer table. In addition I have the carving set, salad set, serving spoons, spatula and pierced fork all in this same wonderful pattern. Just got them in and they will soon be added to the online shop. Sooooooo happy its Friday….. I am glad the week is over, I need some downtime in a big way. The weather has truly been all over the map as I know it has in many parts of the country. We have had 82 and sunny one day and today it’s a cold 48 and rainy……..all in one week! I think the flowers and plants are quite confused as to whether or not they should make their debut! I for one cannot wait until the warmer weather is here for good….which makes me instantly crave eating outdoors, one of the perks of the late spring and summer months which leads me to my post today……

?

I had given a little preview of the beautiful new melamine dishes I was waiting on….by far the most beautiful I have ever seen! So naturally I was super excited about carrying them, well I am happy to report that as of today, they are up for sale in my shop! I am really thrilled about this line, not only do they look and feel like real pottery but they are dishwasher safe, doesn’t get better. The glasses also look like real glass….this entire set might well become my every day set! Here’s a look at some of the new items, click here to see the entire line in my online shop. Tah dah……..

Can you believe it’s melamine? And it even feels like pottery….I am still amazed! And to whet your appetite for dining outdoors, thought it would be fun to take a look at all the beautiful ways to entertain outside. Don’t you just love eating outdoors? I love planning a meal al fresco. How about you? Always love to know your thoughts…..

Hi there…well with spring nearly on our doorstep. At least I think its going to be, barring any “surprises” from mother nature, I must admit I have been doing my fair share of day dreaming of bright blue skies, cool spring breezes, explosions of color from blooming buds and the smell of fresh cut green grass. Sounds good, huh? I cannot wait to steal a few minutes to grab a book, and a cup of coffee or tea and settle into a cozy nook outside and “get away” from everything.Just me, my book and good ol mother nature. It is definitely one of my most anticipated free luxuries, costs nothing but feels like a million bucks!

So imagine this……..your family are all occupied doing their thing for the entire day. All of your chores/calls/emails have been addressed and completed. You are free as a bird. It is 68 degrees absolutely picture perfect. All phones get turned off. The only ring you hear is the sweet chirping of the happy birds doing a little spring dance. You excitedly grab that book you have been waiting to start, brew a fresh cup of coffee, throw on your flip flops and head outside for a few hours of uninterrupted bliss! So…you know the drill, pick your patio setting. Which one beckons to you? I can’t wait to hear…..

No one said this would be easy!! I see a few calling my name but if forced, think I could narrow it down. Do you prefer small cozy intimate spaces or larger grander ones that give you plenty of room to move around if you so choose? As I am doing now, I will start this post off with my own comment…can’t wait to hear from you! Wishing you a wonderful day……..
