Guest posting today at Party Resources and my mid week musings…

Hi, and happy Friday, ?hard to believe it’s Labor Day weekend!! We are getting away for a couple of days and hope to beat the traffic. ?I was going to keep my current post running through the weekend but remembered I have a really neat guest post over at Party Resources, definitely one of my favorite blogs for all kinds of fabulous entertaining tips, awesome food and menu ideas and a chic inside take on all kinds of fabulous destinations. Here’s a sneak peek of my post……….

Kate’s new series is entitled “I do II” and I am honored to be helping her kick it off! Its all about how we would plan our wedding if we were to get married again! It was great fun to prepare (as I love anything to do with weddings and often fantasize about how I would really do it, given the chance) so this was the next best thing. ?I do hope you will take a peek, click here to visit. For those of you who did not see my mid week musings post…here it is! Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, I will be back on Sunday and will try to pop in and say hello. Enjoy summers last hurrah:)

Here’s my mid week musings post in case you missed it………….

Hi there, how are you? Hope you are having a great week…any exciting Labor day plans coming up? We are supposed to be heading to my sisters beach house, and I cannot wait. I am looking forward to a few days of total relaxation and some summer fun. No time like the last weekend of summer to start enjoying it:) ?Today is as always a random post about a few different things, so lets get started!!

OK?I am seriously in love, in love I tell you with my new window seat! Makes me do ?my happy dance every time I walk by it……I had done the cushion but just got some of my pillows made, I had them cut out scenes from the Brunschig and Fils window seat fabric and added trim to?the velvet and had bolster made and am waiting on the other blue and white vase pillow. Now that these are in place, I can figure out what I am doing for the window…I am inclined to go simple as to not take away from the beauty of the window seat and pillows….so here it is! (still experimenting with different sized pictures….hence the different sizes here) Most seem to like the enlarged pictures.

I think the pillows and what I did with them have a very “Charles Faudree” vibe going on!
Got?the pretty faucet installed on my vanity in the powder room….slowly one thing at at time, its coming together. Waiting on the Chinoiserie?mirror we ordered and chandelier, then we are done!
Dough?bowls……got in my first order, seriously gorgeous. Worth naming each and every one and calling them my own, and don’t you know I wanted to keep them ALL! I did keep one for myself and there are so many wonderful ways to use them, I put some flowers in and it looked so pretty. For those of who waiting for me to get more, ?I promise working on and hope to have more fingers crossed, next week!
Finally?finished my little DIY project, with my mirror rosettes. OK, OK I know this is not a huge DIY like some who tackle entire pieces of furniture or other big projects..but this was a victory for me because I had such a hard time finding this darn rosette and lo and behold found it in such an unsuspecting place. Armed with?a glue gun, I got to work and love the result! Decided on the originals, after trying several different ones. Funny how we often go back to the first, isn’t it? So here it is all done…..only waiting on my sconces and chandelier and its a wrap!?
A ?few taken later that afternoon…love the late day light.
Barstools.….finally decided on this one from Vanguard. I am wavering between a few fabrics, I know I want something simple Becca’s remember the blue and white Brunschwig fabric going up on my kitchen window has a lot of pattern. I see something simple and fell in love with this grain sack French fabric from Kravet. I don’t at all want it to feel gimmicky but at the same time KNOW it will look fabulous, it will understated and beautiful on this chair….and i love the way the natural color goes with my floors and the mix of cools and warms. Here it is and the chair…
Draped it over the current chair so you could get an idea, its absolutely understated but think it works…thoughts?
Remember?how I was thinking of switching the hardware on my island? Well I think I made up on my mind. Here’s one of the cup bins in the ant. brass to give you an idea. It definitely pops against the black whereas the oil rubbed bronze gets lost. The big handle is on top of the countertop that I would use for towels to be hung off the island…thoughts?
Taken with the iPhone, so the quality is so so.

Store?biz……the kitchen/bar towels have arrived! Many of you inquired about them…they will be up for sale next week. Here’s a sampling……
When?we were in the city over the weekend, we were near our old stomping grounds and I was shocked to see the most beautiful Food Emporium (my old regular supermarket when I lived in NY) transformed under the 59th st bridge. I mean seriously it would make supermarket shopping a royal treat, the architecture alone is worth the trip. Took these two pics with my iPhone.

Also?visiting a friend yesterday, look at her view from her living room patio. How gorgeous is it! I told her I feel like I am in Lake Como every time I visit her…only thing missing is George Clooney:)
Tonight?I am trying this recipe (from Bon Appeit), sounded too good to not make. Heard the lemon gives it that refreshing zing to make this a winner. I used to have the recipe for something very similar?that was out of this world…so here it is just in case you want to try it too!

Enchanted guest #1…say hi to Kate from Party Resources

Good morning. Hope everyone had a great weekend. I did, went to a wonderful Christmas party, had dinner with great friends, had some time to relax and take Teddy for a long walk, and even did some Christmas shopping! I will be featuring various wonderful guest posts from some of my uber talented blogging friends off and on for the next two weeks leading up to Christmas. The idea was that we were hopefully going to be moving and that I was going to have my guests fill in for me while I was busy getting settled in but that plan has been slightly derailed until after Christmas. Though we aren’t moving for at least a few weeks now,  I am still in packing mode in addition to being in the full swing of Christmas so these guests posts are a lifesaver!!

To kick things off I welcome talented, wonderful Kate. You are in for a mega treat today. Kate is the talent behind Party Resources, my most favorite blog for entertaining and party deliciousness!! Kate is here today to talk about “Whats on your tray” for the perfect Holiday dinner starting with the cocktail hour. taking you all the way to decadent desserts.  Get ready to feast your eyes on this scrumptious post! Thank you Kate and take it away……..

I am thrilled to bring the party over to Tina’s today. Don’t you just love her? If you know my blog, then you know I love to entertain – especially during the holidays. It is a hectic time for everyone, so plan ahead and do things in advance. What’s on my tray for a holiday party? Let’s take a peek..

Cocktails
While a well stocked bar is a must, I also love to serve a signature cocktail. Our friend Peter Callahan’s CRANBERRY MARTINI is perfect for this time of year.

Nibbles
My motto for cocktail nibbles is something that pairs well with drinks and is simple to prepare!

The Union Square Cafe has the best recipe for spiced bar nuts I have ever found. Really. Truly. RECIPE

And a Cheese Board with assorted crackers, dried fruit, etc.

Along with one hot passed hors d’oeuvre – HAM AND GRUYERE THUMBPRINTS

Main Course
If I had to pick one favorite recipe for entertaining during the winter months that is always a huge hit (and can be made the day before), it is Ina Garten’sBEEF BOURGUIGNON. (I skip the pearl onions.) Topped with fresh chopped parsley and paired with lots of crusty bread.

HARICOTS VERT with Shallots

Followed by an arugula salad with shaved parmesan in a balsamic vinaigrette

Dessert
I always serve champagne or Prosecco with dessert.

Accompanied by homemade ALMOND BARK with Sea Salt

To top off the decadent meal – CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT CAKE with Praline Crunch and vanilla ice cream

Hope this inspires your holiday entertaining! Merry! Merry!

Well Kate, you have me quite hungry right about now. My bowl of oatmeal waiting is just not cutting it!  And not just for any meal….I am talking a full blown mega decadent and delicious sounding one like the elegant meal you have planned above….there is not a single thing there that I wouldn’t be thrilled to indulge in! I might even want to start backwards and start by “nibbling” on the chocolate bark and chocolate hazelnut cake….yum!! Many thanks for stopping in and offering your elegant take on the perfect holiday foods to offer during this festive season. Love all of your wonderful ideas and thank you for sharing some of the recipes! Please be sure to visit Kate over at Party Resources where there is a  whole host of wonderful posts about delectable foods and elegant entertaining.
Wishing everyone an enchanted day!

Behind the blogger…meet Kate from Party Resources!!

Good morning! I am starting to feel falls crisp cool air slowly making an entrance, as I took Teddy out this morning it dawned on me, summer really is over. Though I will admit, I do love the season of fall, from the beautiful crisp weather to the gorgeous foliage to the luxurious clothes that accompany it…just wish we could push fast forward and then go right back into summer, skipping winter! Enough of my weather woes,  I am so happy to be here with another fabulous behind the blogger interview, definitely one of my favorites. So please welcome…….

Kate from Party Resources

Kate’s blog is part of my morning routine, my blogworld visits would not be the same without a stop over at her exquisite blog showcasing everything having to do with elegant entertaining and beautifully planned events of all kinds that range from amazing destination weddings to elegant soirees both at home and exotic locales. Her mother, the renowned party planner, Dixie Todd and Kate started this blog to showcase their talents and expertise in all matters having to do with party planning and its crystal clear that the “extraordinarily good taste gene” runs in the family. I get so many amazingly great ideas from Party Resources, based in Litchfield County, and its always great fun to discover a new idea for a party or a new inn or restaurant that they are profiling. Their work takes them all over and one look at their site, you will see why their services are in high demand! Trust me, there is always something fabulous going on over there!  If you don’t know of her blog yet, run don’t walk over….you are in for a mega treat!

So……. what inspired you to start blogging in the first place?
We wanted to expand the reach our family business ? Party Resources with fresh fun ideas on entertaining.
And my friend Erin of Element Of Style is someone I have known for years and was very supportive.

How did you come up with your blog name?
Not very inspired ? it is the name of our company.

Do you have a favorite all time movie?

I have a few that come to mind: Breakfast at Tiffany?s, Julie and Julia, The Hangover, Rear Window ? how about that for an eclectic list!

You get to spend a month in the European  countryside…..is it Italy or France?

I have been fortunate enough to spend time in both countries. Italy ? no contest! The people, the scenery, the food, the language and the wine!

Favorite meal?

This time of year it would include: oysters on the half shell paired with champagne, caprese salad with local summer tomatoes, fresh corn from a local farm stand, a crusty baguette served warm with home made basil butter with a really good bottle of rose or Sauvignon Blanc. I am not much of a dessert person.

Tell us as little or as much as you want to about your family.

My mother is the person who runs Party Resources. Her name is Dixie and she is one hell of a style maven!

If you could have any career what would it be? I think maybe interior design, as I love all things visual.

Favorite design style?

Classic with eclectic, modern style

If you could only live in one color what would it be?

Black

Favorite season and why?

Fall. I have always lived in New England (with short stints in Chicago and London). The changing of the leaves, crisp clear air, a cozy fire and a warm sweater.

One place you haven’t been that you want to visit-

South Africa ? I have been to Morocco but would love to go on safari in S. Africa

What’s your number one pet peeve?

People that don?t know when to stop texting or talking on their mobile phone.

What are the two best things about blogging?

Fellow bloggers and the readers. I had no idea what I wonderful community I would encounter when I launched our blog a year ago.

You get to have a private dinner with any two people in the world, they can be from the fashion, design world, literary world, Hollywood, politics, etc….your choice. Who are the lucky two? Bono and George Clooney

Do you have a favorite saying or quote? Her genius was her oneness with herself. Said about Georgia O?Keeffee

Reading anything interesting that you want to share?

Blood, Bones & Butter by Gabrielle Hamilton  It was suggested by a restaurant owner here in Boston and is all about the adventures of the food world for an aspiring chef.

You are 18 again. What do you do?

Enjoy the freedom from responsibility and not be in such a hurry to grow up!

What are your plans for the fall? To me, fall in New England is all about crisp air and fall foliage. I spent Labor Day weekend at the stunning Stowe Mountain Lodge and am already planning a return trip. I haven’t gotten further than that yet…….

In ten years I will be………………..
Older.

If you could live anywhere on earth and money was no object where would you go?

I would have a place in Boston (where I live now), a house on the ocean on the Cape and a place in Tuscany.

Best tip or two for any new bloggers reading this…….

Blog consistently 5 days a week
Read other blogs for inspiration and leave comments
Ask fellow bloggers to do guest posts, it is a great way to get to know other bloggers and expand your following.

What a great question! I think I would rather answer with a few entertaining tips that I love for entertaining. Serve a signature drink for your next party (small or large). Pair them with a personalized stirrer- like a pinwheel or monogram.

Blogging to me is?

 A creative outlet.

Give me four words that describe your personality.
Energetic, creative, funny and loyal.

And here is a little recap of the things that Kate loves……
