Pinterest pretties part 2

Good evening…..ever have one of those weeks where you are trying (in vain) to catch up but feel like that gerbil on the wheel who is huffing and puffing with all his might? That is me lately!! I am juggling many balls but things should settle down soon….and it cannot happen a moment too soon!

This post, I had prepared about a month or so ago (when I was home bound being sick), then it got put back in my draft box and forgotten about (temporarily).? I said I would share with you periodically? a board that I am really loving and no week does it feel more appropriate to share pictures from my Pinterest “Food fun“? than this week coming off the heels of being home bound due to ridiculously cold, icy, snowy weather.

Hello and Happy Sunday to you. Over here, its another freeeeeezing day. This is the kind of biting cold that honestly makes you want to stay inside in your pjs, hop into your bed and not leave until March. It is bitter, gray and incredibly uninviting. It is quite something that so much of our country is experiencing this extreme cold. I say please bring on an early spring!!

Good day for the movies…we may head out to one later on. Seen anything good lately? We saw Twelve Years a slave and I must say it was excellent. I have heard rave reviews over Lone Survivor, it looks intense but incredible and to know it’s a true story makes it that more compelling. Any other recommendations?

I really appreciate the over 200 bloggers that participated in my blogger poll. The results were so interesting and I know many of you are eager to see them. The results are below, wondering if there were any surprises to you?

I am also sharing some beautiful (and a few mouth watering) images from my Pinterest boards, random things of beauty and/or inspiration that caught my attention this week. If you want to see more click here.

End of the week musings and a happy Labor day weekend to you!

Hello there…hard to believe its Friday, Labor day weekend and it is nearly the end of summer, kind of crazy huh? I just can’t believe it……..for me personally this is the fastest summer ever. I feel like I am just revving up with my summer list of “to do”s” and have barely made a dent. Oh well, guess it will have to wait until next year!

I hope whatever you have in store for Labor Day weekend is wonderful and relaxing. We are supposed to be away, so hopefully it will all work out:) Lets get started with my random musings post which is normally a bit of this and that…..

House biz. Besides my dining room chairs which I have to say I really love, I added a pair of my newest ginger jars which are the oversized flat tops with birds and have to say I LOVE them. All these new additions has me really motivated to get busy on the chinoiserie and draperies and then call it a day on my dining room. Goal is to get it done by Christmas. Remember you read it here first:) Take a look…….

Also love preserved  boxwood and am going to soon start carrying a wonderful line I found, these small 6″ orbs are perfect for so many containers…

And I got moved one of my blue and white garden seats to the main patio and really like the way it looks……

Got these beautiful framed chinoisersie prints while in Charleston and have to say they were made to go in my powder room. The colors are spot on and so is the theme! Also got some black tole sconce shades and am deciding between the ivory silk or blk tole…thoughts?

 Black or ivory?

You know I love my monogrammed pillows. I have spoken of one of my new favorite resources, Calico Daisy, well take a look at the newest pillows I got from her to be added in my guest room…..just playing right now, got in a pair, not sure where their final resting place will be:)

A great charity. Are you familiar with Donors choose? A friend told me about it years ago and I love the mission, helping teachers all across the country who need help purchasing materials, supplies and necessities for students in need that are part of schools that underfunded. You get to choose which project you want to support. Love this organization.

An amazing DIY from a reader. My reader shared this amazing bedroom makeover with me and it was so pretty…I had to share it. I marvel at her resourcefulness and know we all appreciate a good home makeover! She did a fabulous job…..below is a commentary that she shared with me on how this came to be.

I have just completed a DIY bed for my guest room.  Your planters are so similar, I decided I would share my project with you.

I wanted an antique cane bed, but they were between $4,000 and $7,000.  And none of the antiques came in Queen.  So, I bought a new cane bed and some architectural molding appliques.

They are paintable, stainable and flexible(bend

able

)

.  I had never used them before.

I am also sending pics of the bed without the appliques(pic from manufacturer).

I glued the appliques to the bed, then painted and distressed them with glazing.  I also painted the bed crown to match.  I am really pleased with the way it turned out.  And the best part is, it cost about 1,000!

Visiting hundreds of tag sales from your computer? Yep you heard right. Are you familiar with Everything but the house? Its a genius site that share tags  sales and their contents from all over the country, you can bid online and let me tell you there are some amazing finds. Click here to check it out.

My style in clothing Pinterest board. I have to say, I am kind of in love with this board and if Pinterest ever crashed, I would be heartbroken because it is giving me a chance to really hone in on all that I love in one convenient place,  so here are a few new additions to that board. Click here if you want to see more pretties!

Paint colors. Are you considering changing the color of a room or two? Or three? If so this post is a must see. My buddy, Luciane of Home Bunch did a post on Benjamin Moore paints that was fabulous, so many amazing examples. I am convinced in this one post alone, you could make an educated decision! Take a look…..and click here to visit!

Store biz. Things are starting to heat up as summer ends and fall is nearly here and the official shopping season is soon going to start. I have all kinds of exciting things in store! Finally added the magnificent new pagodas in both blue and white and solid white along with the white pagoda lamps. Plus the new six sided ginger jar….all things I am smitten over! Take a look…..

And adding these stunning new flat top jars in various sizes, first the really big flat top (the same as on my dining room table) 11″ x 11″ x 13″

The first two are 9″ (standard height) These below are not yet added but if you are interested, just contact me here

And these are the minis, about 5.5-6″ tall….

I also plan on adding some more much loved items to the personal accessories. The good news is for all of you who inquired about “the bag” it is coming..woo hoo! I will announce it on my blog when they are actually here but they are coming and I am really excited, getting them in about 6-8 colors….

And also hope to  be adding some pieces from a fabulous cashmere company I have bought from many times, beautiful featherweight cashmere scarves and wraps and best part is I will discount approx. 30%!  Will keep you posted.

This week I am not offering the steal and deal because I will not be here this weekend, but next week I  have some really great buys to announce:)

Being it’s Labor Day weekend, thought this conveneient little chart on the ins and outs of Labor Day was neat to have at your fingertips with all kinds of fun facts and statistics…….

Thanks as always for stopping in. I want to wish all of you a very happy and safe Labor Day weekend, hope whatever you are doing is loads of fun and relaxing. We will catch up next week! Enjoy……

End of the week musings and a happy Labor day weekend to you!

?Your planters are so similar, I decided I would share my project with you.

I wanted an antique cane bed, but they were between $4,000 and $7,000. ?And none of the antiques came in Queen. ?So, I bought a new cane bed and some architectural molding appliques.

?They are paintable, stainable and flexible(bend

able

)

. ?I had never used them before.

?I am also sending pics of the bed without the appliques(pic from manufacturer).

I glued the appliques to the bed, then painted and distressed them with glazing. ?I also painted the bed crown to match. ?I am really pleased with the way it turned out. ?And the best part is, it cost about 1,000!

Click here if you want to see more pretties!

Paint colors. Are you considering changing the color of a room or two? Or three? If so this post is a must see. Pinterest fever has struck!

Hi there how is your week going? Mine has been busy…my husband had pneumonia for the last 8 days, had houseguests and let’s just say I am rather exhausted. Thankfully he is feeling better, went back to work for a few hours yesterday (taking it slow) and life is getting somewhat back to normal. I feel like lately I just haven’t had enough hours in my day! I am still waiting for the fun and relaxation of summer to kick in. August? Anywho, moving on……

OK I might be slow to the starting gate but finally this filly has caught up and now gets what all the Pinterest fuss is about. Let’s just say I find it incredibly “pinteresting”…and I cannot seem to stay away!

I am by no means addicted (though some might argue)  but definitely love the convenience of being able to capture what I love and putting it in a safe and organized place…I mean the concept is totally brilliant. I have a ways to go but am getting there and having fun in the process.  Some of the boards are “newly hatched” and others are a bit more developed but let me tell I am having fun on this learning curve!! You can click on each title to be taken to that Pinterest board (and I have others, these are just some of what I have started) . Love being able to customize and curate a board specific to my own style and tastes.  So thought it could make a fun post to include a few faves from each of my boards, ready? Here we go…..

Forewarning, seriously beautiful  images that can produce heart palpitations…..

Monogram love…..

Food fun……

My style in clothing….

My style……..

Boxwoods and outdoors….

Tabletops that rock.…..

Sweet dreams…..

Party like a rockstar..….

My Home…..

The power of flowers….

Wow..that’s a whole lot of pretty, wouldn’t you say? If you want to see ALL of my Pinterest boards click here.…yes there are more, and that is nothing compared to some of the Pinterest veterans. Forewarning, it can get really addicting and not for the faint of heart!! So I normally tell myself before I even get started that I will allow myself x amount of time and set a limit before I even begin…its a wonderful resource but like with all good things,  when done in moderation:)

I do not want to be sitting in some big circle with other “addicts”  in a dark obscure room one day having to fess up to too many hours pinning so I really do limit how much time I spend on there, lol. But let me tell you…once you get started, its not so easy to stay away! Do you too have Pinterest fever? It can be awfully contagious:)  Every picture you see, you think to pin for safe keeping…..brilliant idea! Happy pinning…and have yourself a fabulous day.

Random musings and off to Palm Beach!

Good morning! I  hope you have had a great week, it is amazing that we are less than a month away from Christmas!! Do you feel the pressure yet? My week has been super busy but productive. I feel like I am juggling many balls in the air and on top of that I have been waking up at a ridiculously early time every morning (think 4ish)  therefore I am anxious for a little relaxation.  Think this will be the ONLY four relaxing days I will have in all of December! So, I am off today to beautiful Palm Beach, really looking forward to a 3 day mini break from well…….everything 🙂

Such a beautiful jewel of a place, I plan on getting some much needed relaxation, rest, indulging in a few great meals, and maybe hopefully some retail therapy! Any suggestions that you feel compelled to share…..please by all means, let me know.  In the meantime…things are getting awfully busy around here. By next week hope to have my tree up and my front door wreath.

Though I like to hem and haw about how crazy and chaotic things are (and they are) it is very exciting to be celebrating Christmas in our new home. I am thrilled to be able to share it with all of you and hope your holiday season is off to  a blazing start! This is a very photo heavy post (consider it 3 days of posting all in one)! Enjoy your weekend……

I missed a dear friends birthday so invited her over for a one on one lunch.  I wanted to have it look pretty and we had such a nice time. I made my usual tricolor salad with grilled chicken and shaved Parmesan, a yummy chicken tortilla soup, fresh sour dough rolls and for dessert I was very practical, instead of a cake that would likely go to waste, or to have leftovers for that would be serious tempation for me late at night,  I got her one big oversized cupcake, fresh fruit and the best biscotti locally made I have ever eaten (its addicting, its that good). Here’s a few highlights…

Even had a bottle of champagne for her to toast her belated birthday………

Please remember those chairs are going……….do not like the plaid but they are something to sit on!

My pretty soup tureen

This soup is soooo good and really satisfying..recipe below!
The oversized cupcake, just perfect for 2!

Trust me it didn’t stay there long!

My very generous friend, came bearing gifts….these gorgeous flowers (she knows my love for white flowers) and these were exceptional and this beautiful holiday candle from Nest, too pretty to open!

Want the recipe for the soup? Here it is…say hello to your new comfort food! ( I buy ready made tortilla strips, and am generous with the extra sharp cheddar for that extra little “zing”!

CHICKEN TORTILLA SOUP

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons vegetable oil or light olive oil
? cup minced white onion
? cup mined Anaheim pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons cornstarch
4 cups chicken broth
2 cooked skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
1 cooked skinless, boneless chicken thigh, cut into bite-size pieces
1 package sharp or extra sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
3 (6-inch) corn tortillas, minced (if you actually want to do this yourself…not me)
2 tablespoons lime juice
Carrots very finely diced
1/2 green pepper and 1/2 red pepper, finely diced
? cup canned diced tomatoes
? teaspoon ground cumin
? teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
? teaspoon oregano
1 can pinto or black beans
3/4 cup of corn
? teaspoon salt
Tortilla strips, optional, for garnish

Directions:

1. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, heat the vegetable oil over medium-low heat. Add the minced onion, pepper, and garlic, peppers and carrots and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes, or until the minced onion begins to turn translucent.
2. Whisk the cornstarch into the chicken broth, then add the broth mixture to the pot, along with the chicken, cheddar cheese, corn, beans,, lime juice, diced tomatoes, cumin, cayenne pepper, oregano, and salt. Increase the heat to medium while stirring constantly to help the cheese melt. When the soup begins to bubble, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes. Serve the soup topped with tortilla strips and extra shredded cheese

Store news……Been busy fulfilling holiday orders, the monogram items are hot hot hot, the napkin rings and silver also moving fast. I do a consistent business with my pillows. This line is particularly fabulous, super high quality, beautiful heavy down filled and I discount substantially. I am excited to have a bunch of new pillows, they will be added on by Monday. Here’s a peek at the new loot in the pillow dept! Click here to visit my online store.

Also…several of you have made inquires about the pewter chargers. I had gotten in a large batch which went immediately. I am working on trying to get more, not so easy! I did get in a random assortment of 14 of the scalloped ones and 3 of one of the more ornate ones.. If interested just email me. I am discounting the scalloped to a great deal of $25 a charger (they sell for 40) because on some of them there is the slightest trace of a “sticker residue” on them but they will be covered any way so its a small “defect”. I tried to photograph them. Just email me here if you are interested!

 I have 14 of these

 And 3 of these

Moving on.….continuing to decorate around here for Christmas. I have had such a chock full week that I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked, but am getting there! Here’s a few new things in my holiday decorating….

I do love the way red pops next to blue and white……

Added some garland….will be adding pinecones at some point, this is phase I

I like adding small sprigs of greenery with berries to vignettes around the holidays….

I found this HUGE pumpkin for 1/2 off (so next fall you will be seeing a lot of it) Its so great looking, about 22″ round!

I love late afternoon sunlight and the beautiful silhouette it creates…..

Though I am not a huge “red” person have to say a touch of it here and there brings the holiday spirit into my home in a beautiful way….

Love adding scented pinecones to the base of a planter for my holiday flowers…

There is so much inspiration online that at times its intoxicating and overwhelming( I know many of you are shaking your head in agreement)! But it is so incredibly fun to drool over all the amazing images available! Here’s a few I am loving lately……..

Such a magical time of year, so much going on, so much inspiration everywhere! It is a wonderful season but it is also so important to pace yourself, I keep reminding myself of this every day and am a “list queen” and  love checking things off my list! Enjoy the magic of the season that is upon us and I will speak to you next week! Wishing you a fabulous weekend. Ho ho ho…….
