Three cheers for Cherry blossoms and a giveaway!!

Hi there! I have sooooo missed being in blogland, making my rounds and really missed all my readers! My little getaway was wonderful and I came back to an overflowing mailbox, and lots of orders to get out. No rest for the weary…but I love every minute:) We are off again later today on a mini road trip for the next three days to do some college visits so I am thrilled to share with you a post I had put together a week or so ago, I will be back on Sunday and just in case I do not have the chance to post want to wish everyone a very happy Easter! Next week…..everything goes back to normal!

I looooove cherry blossoms. I can still remember the first time we attended a cherry blossom festival in Washington DC when I was a kid, I was totally transfixed in a way I cannot quite explain. As a young girl, we were also in Japan for the cherry blossom festival and have lots of pictures of my sister and I standing against natures most spectacular backdrop. Perhaps this was the very beginning of my love for flowers and nature in general, without my even knowing it. They are as beautiful and elegant as they are dramatic. Only downside is that they don’t last as long as would be ideal (forever would be ideal).

I? have searched high and low for a very realistic looking cherry blossom and finally found them! I am soon going to be offering them? on? my online site,? under new arrivals. These blossoms are exceptional! Best part, they really do last forever!!

Spring is in the air…..at least in my house!

Last day to be eligible to win the beautiful silver tray for my one year celebration! Click here to visit that post for details…winner to be chosen tomorrow!

OK yes after a ridiculous amount of snow this season we have finally been having some milder days! At last we are hitting the 50’s…and it feels positively balmy out there! No complaints form me, when I see the temps creeping up and the sun blazing, I am a really happy girl. However I am not so naive as to think its over…we have been known to get one last blast of winter when our guard is down, so I am not discounting even more snow or frigid temps.

?However just because I can’t control what goes on outside doesn’t mean I can’t let things feel “spring-y” indoors and that is exactly what I am doing! I went to my favorite nursery and filled my cart to the brim with the prettiest array of spring flowers that I could find and came home and had fun filling all my containers with them. Then I got really ambitious and took on a little do it yourself project and from afar they look pretty darn good….blue and white Easter eggs! So here’s what I have been up to…..

It all started with this? innocent darling basket of spring beauty that a friend who stopped over dropped off….

?And soon my “spring flower bug” bit and off to the nursery I went…….

And then I got busy choosing various containers for all the flowers……

?Love the way the pale pink hydrangeas look in the blue and whites…so fresh!

?Added these beautiful double ball topiaires to my black tole planters

And these pretty white azalea topiaries in my blue and whites

Isn’t this planter a beauty? Brand new style soon to be listed in my shop…just got it in!

?More topiaries looking for a place other than my breakfast room table..I SOOO NEED a? greenhouse!

These are tall about 3 feet so need a special place………

Gardenias? require a? lot of sun so hoping their new spot will get them blooming again!

?Beautiful pink hydrangeas fill my oversized blue and white bowl
?Love this pair near my sink….they just make me happy

I did not forget about my powder room, here a pretty pink hydrangea plant graces my newest silver planter

And finally I am not exactly a “do it yourselfer” but every now and then I do enjoy trying to tackle a project here and there…..so I tried my hand at making blue and white Easter eggs, they came out very pretty, as long as you don’t look too close!

?I cut napkins into mini triangles, got some mod podge with a paint brush and started pasting them on, a final coating all over the egg seals the deal, let them dry for about an hour and you are set!

And then when dry I put some in my small William Yeoward dish and some in my spring flower arrangemtnets…

And when added to my flower arrangements, they were the perfect touch of spring!

And I was experimenting for a small spring lunch I might be hosting….think this is a neat idea. I put waterwith some baby spinach leaves a few fresh flowers (or whatever you have in the house) in a square container and froze it, I ended up with a “frozen plate” on which to put my salad….isn’t that a neat idea? I will use a round mold for this next time, as I think it will sit better on the plate. I think it would be beautiful for shrimp cocktail or some kind of seafood appetizer…..

So….has the spring bug bit you yet? I have to say though I actually like winter, this year I have had more than my fill! I really love the idea of flowers blooming, crave the smell of fresh cut green grass and cannot wait to fling open the windows while belting out a spring-y tune (OK for my kids sake, I will not do the last thing) but you get what I am saying…..I am ready for spring to arrive! Enjoy your day………

Orchid fever and a blizzard have struck and a winner!

I had to share some pictures because we all know everything looks prettier in snow! We were supposed to leave for Boston today but clearly we are not going, bummer but better to be safe. Hope if the snow has impacted you, you are safe and staying inside!

This batch was taken as the storm was cranking up…..

?And then this is what we woke up to this morning……..22 inches later!

Wow so much to love~I loved the wallpaper or mural in that dining room (the chinoiserie one). And your breakfast table setting was amazing too Tina! You continue to inspire in such a dedicated way on this blog! Nice going!

This was my original post…..so it turned into a 2 for 1!

If you have been following me for a few weeks or? for an entire year, by now you? know I do? love my orchids. They bring elegance and grace to any space they enter. Then you add a beautiful planter and the effect is dazzling. Every few months I go on an orchid binge and buy a dozen or so. Truth is even though they are pricier than a lot of other flowers, they actually end up being one of the best flower bargains because they last so long. Most cut flowers or flower plants last 2-4 weeks.

On average my orchids last I would say about 3 months, sometimes even more. So its a great investment that requires little upkeep except for water and a good amount of sun and a lot of love. I adore? them in every room and my love for orchids is one reason why I buy so many planters! I don’t think you can ever have enough:) Any fellow orchid lovers out there? I buy them from a local florist but have also picked them up at the Home Depot greenhouse. And you know what, they are really nice looking, good quality plants.? So here is? a little recap of my orchid buying day…..

It all starts with an island (a messy one) filled with all my containers. I would do this outside if it wasn’t 10 degrees!

?More containers and unloading the orchids……..

?First pair ready to go to powder room…..

?Love this planter..this is a new one in my online shop

?Orchids and classic silver planters go together like blue and white:)

?

?I know these are not orchids but I had to how you my gardenais in bloom!

I know these are not orchids but just moved my oversized blue and white jar with cherry blossoms to front foyer and kind of liking it!

Love orchids in silver…so classic!
Another one of my silver crested planters from my online shop
Love this tole crown planter filled with orchids…..

?

?

So what about you? Do you love orchids too and use them in your home?? What is your favorite way to plant/pot them? I just can’t get enough and when you consider how long they last…they actually are might I even suggest economical! Hope wherever you are, you are safe and warm. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

A prayer for Newtown and my birthday recap…..

I start this post by saying my heart is heavy over the unspeakable tragedy in Newtown, and asking everyone to keep those affected in their prayers.   Absolutely devastating and frankly hard to wrap my head around. For those families left behind dealing with the most unimaginable grief, I hope God will protect, bless and guide them during this dark time and in the difficult days ahead. My heart breaks for each of them. All we can do is keep them in our prayers, which I will continue to do.

LAST DAY TO SUBMIT YOUR HOLIDAY PICTURES…….IT CAN BE OF YOUR TREE, YOUR HOME, YOUR GIFT WRAP, AS LONG AS ITS HOLIDAY RELATED! I WILL BE POSTING MY READERS SPECTACULAR IMAGES TOMORROW! YOU ARE IN FOR A ROYAL TREAT……SEND ME YOUR PICTURES TO THEENCHANTEDHOME@GMAIL.COM

As you know Friday was my birthday as well. I am glad I didn’t know about it beforehand, admittedly it would have been difficult to get into a celebratory mood knowing what was going on just a state away.  I first want to say thanks so much for the wonderful and warm birthday wishes and was so touched by your comments, emails and even a few E-cards!  I really had a wonderful day. It meant so much to have a “day off”, no pressure to run around, play mama elf and do a million things in a day, do anything other than allow myself to be wined and dined by those I love and who thankfully love me back:) My dear friend made a beautiful luncheon for me and five of my closest friends. It is more than apparent that she put a lot of love and care into this special day as these pictures will attest.

The food was amazing, the atmosphere picture perfect and holiday ready and the company bar none….being surrounded by my closest friends, who could ask for anything more! I gave out nutcracker ornaments as favors and then she showered each of us with a beautiful Ralph Lauren candle and giant gingerbread cookie! It was like Christmas 11 days early! Besides feeling very loved and cared for, it was fun to be in her stunning home all decked out for the holidays! So you know I love to share with you my comings and goings and I thought you would all enjoy seeing highlights from this special day…..

Such a beautiful and elegant holiday/birthday tablescape!

Her dining room is absolutely beautiful and you know I love that paper (and those jars)!
 Killer view…….
Her 15 foot tree, its a stunner and could give Rockefeller Center a run for its money!
This is a beautiful vignette in browns and greens…love it!
 A peek into the kitchen
Another angle of that amazing view….
This is such a pretty picture, don’t you think?

Her elegant and warm butlers pantry…..
And for all you Gracie wallpaper fans……this is one stunning powder room!

Coffee was served in these darling nutcracker mugs….
How about this darling pair of lab fireplace fenders for her two labs, love this!

Her beautiful new mohair chairs…….love the color!
The pooches are partied out….they are ready for an afternoon siesta!
Looking from the family room into the kitchen and breakfast room, such a pretty shot.
My “favors” for each of my friends, a trio of nutcracker ornaments

The ornaments that I gave out as favors….love nutcrackers!

And the second favor! A beautiful Ralph Lauren candle and giant gingerbread cookie!

The beautiful table setting, love the plaid, the gold and of course those darling napkin rings!

 There are the “party animals”
Part of the spread to start….yummy cheese and a crudite

A wonderful rose champagne, that just kept on flowing…I certainly didn’t say no!
 Pretty!

 Nutcrackers are everywhere….
I am getting hungry all over again!
A wonderful really yummy pasta with fresh lemon and olive oil…soooooo good!
And this lemon sole was heavenly!

The colors are so pretty and warm
 Time for the “goodies”!
My friend putting her last minute touches on her wonderful cooking!
This green tea ice cream was sooooo good, love the peppermint topping she put in for a little holiday cheer!
 And my special birthday cupcake….yum!

And my beautiful gift, it was almost too pretty to open. I said almost, but I was able to oblige:)

Her beautiful welcoming family room…….pretty!

With a view like this, it was hard to get up and get back to our schedules…mesmerizing!

What a fabulous day!! Thank you so much for making me feel like one special lady! This was such a nice break from the chaotic days that I have had, and the perfect remedy to a crazy busy last few weeks. I feel recharged and ready to carry on with the holiday hustle bustle! Thanks for stopping by, hope you are getting through the holiday craziness OK……..I am taking it easy today, wrapping gifts but not even thinking of venturing into stores, supposed to stop by a holiday party a friend is having, and just catching my breath before I begin what will be a super busy week (I am determined to finish all my shopping no later than Wednesday)! Have a wonderful Sunday……

I have fall fever and its contagious……

Good morning……So do I have any fellow fall lovers out there? I know, I know there are soooo many  fall posts out there..but I simply could not resist sharing some favorite fall images.  I must say I get a little pep in my step when fall rolls around, when my sleeveless shirt dilemmas say goodbye until next season, when I feel inspired to start making big pots of my favorite comfort foods (and there are many trust me on that), when apple picking and fall foliage season come about. Yes, this all excites me like you can’t believe!

My own fall decor this season……..

I love waking up that cool air, and opening a window and just breathing fall in. I  love adding little touches around my home to signify falls arrival. Nothing over the top, but little subtle touches here and there. So,  today’s a tribute to fall and the glorious inspiration it inevitably brings like a beautifully wrapped present every time this time of year. How about you? Do you like to add touches of fall into your home?  Do you enjoy the season like I do? Do tell!

How spectacular is this rustic outdoor setting in a barn….absolutely idyllic!
Are you seriously ever too old for a candy apple? I think not…don’t you know if you eat one in the fall, its half the calories:)
Something about an outdoor setting under the rustling leaves with a slight fall breeze…..doesn’t get better!

A fun time to go a litlte crazy with fall decor……love the colors! Pottery Barn
I feel you are never too old to hit a pumpkin farm!

Hello crusty bread and hearty homemade soup!
Fall is a visit to Central Park and watching the model sailboats take sail in the cool fall breeze….
Fall is meant for apple picking (and apple pie ala mode of course)!
Its the perfect season to burn fall scented candles…and how about these darling gourd ones? PB
The spectrum of colors is nothing short of a miracle
Where apples in abundance can be found…..Country Living
And creating beautiful fall-ish vignettes! (Pottery Barn)
I cannot help but think of lazy late afternoons…true I NEVER get to catnap in a beautiful hammock in a sun lit lakeside cozy cabin but I can dream about it! (Pinterest)
How about all those precious little trick or treaters that come around every fall?
Apple pie and fall are practically synonymous!
And doesn’t fall make the most inspiring table setting with the rich colors and wonderful textures! CL
Fall is meant for settings like this, a charming quiet cabin on a lake…….love it!
And wearing gorgeous cashmere sweaters and scarves and fabulous racing gloves..ooh la la!
And creating simple arrangements of beautiful fall leaves and gourds in pretty old urns…..
Give me any excuse to have to stay home and put on a pair of cozy socks…ahh, that’s fall for you!
And finally, fall and wonderful comfort foods go together like oreos and milk, don’t you think?
Well that’s what fall means to me………So what about you? There’s so much to celebrate during this wonderful season! Do you love fall and get excited over it being here too? Whats your absolute favorite thing about this magical season? Do tell!

I have fall fever and its contagious……

Good morning……So do I have any fellow fall lovers out there? I know, I know there are soooo many ?fall posts out there..but I simply could not resist sharing some favorite fall images. ?I must say I get a little pep in my step when fall rolls around, when my sleeveless shirt dilemmas say goodbye until next season, when I feel inspired to start making big pots of my favorite comfort foods (and there are many trust me on that), when apple picking and fall foliage season come about. Yes, this all excites me like you can’t believe!

My own fall decor this season……..

I love waking up that cool air, and opening a window and just breathing fall in. I ?love adding little touches around my home to signify falls arrival. Nothing over the top, but little subtle touches here and there. So, ?today’s a tribute to fall and the glorious inspiration it inevitably brings like a beautifully wrapped present every time this time of year. How about you? Do you like to add touches of fall into your home? ?Do you enjoy the season like I do?
