Brimfield or bust! An encore…….

Hi there and hope you had a great weekend.? Over here its raining, gloomy and gray….and I am loving it! Yesterday was the perfect excuse to stay in, and after my long busy (but fun) week I looked forward to a lazy day. Friday morning a good friend and I woke up at the crack of dawn and headed up? as we did last year to Brimfield. Hailed as the country’s biggest antiques show, it is at the very least a really fun way to spend the day. If you missed my first post on Brimfield,? click here, its much more detailed and in depth and I think worth seeing. This is a much shorter condensed post, call me a “jaded Brimfielder”.

It’s huge, literally its field after field for miles and miles. Brimfield is on three times a year, May,? July and Sept. being the bigger shows, and July being smaller. If I am to be honest, there is a lot of junk and this is a total feast for hoarders:) There are many many booths, that you walk by, scratch your head and wonder who in the world would buy that. And sure enough people do!? But there are also some wonderful finds and if you enjoy the “hunt for treasure” as much as the discovery…then Brimfield is most certainly for you!

We have made some friends/acquaintances there and by all accounts, this year was a good show. Unfortunately for me the only things I saw worth taking home were huge, heavy and cumbersome, but it was a lot of fun to “people watch” and check out all the loot for sale. Some things to me, seem overpriced (silver), one subject I feel like I know about, and my favorite art dealer was at another show so didn’t’ come to Brimfield this year which was a bummer. Here are a few highlights (highs and lows)!

?Something for everyone…..enough said.

?Just in case you have been searching high and low for a bodyless doll…….here you go!

?She freaked me out a little as many antique dolls do……..
?Thought this old door was quite beautiful! If I was looking for a project would have found a way for this to come home with me….love the hardware too
?This woman specializes in Swedish/Gustavian furniture and Mora clocks…..

?A pair of beautiful secretary’s
?I loved this chair and just wanted to buy one, but he was selling them only as a set of six

?Antique toy cars anyone?

Love statuary……..
?If I could have lugged these home, I most certainly would have!

?These were the ones I wanted, beautiful but very large and it was just too risky to have them load them in my car (as he suggested)!

?There was a decent amount of transferware…………
?Always like old trunks…do you?
?Say hello to my newest napkin ring! A golfer…..just love this one!

?The bear pushing the beehive is quite cute!
?Perfect for summer and alfresco dining, a lighthouse and shells!
?This cute little guy taking a break….
And letting his owner know its time to eat!
?These “beauties” were 125.00, a total bargain (NOT)!!!!!!!
?We got to see the filming of Lara Spencers popular HGTV show, Flea market flip
?There is Lara in the navy blazer to the right……
We noticed how great her hair looked!
?This pair REALLY freaked me out, that clown face did me in!
?Food choices are pretty slim (healthy eating at least), but fresh lemonade is always a good thing!
Parking lots go on and on…..
And? on and on and on and on…………..
?This is what you see for miles, people and a traffic jam of cars!

?One of the countless aisles…there are hundreds like this!

?And my big purchase….a pair of cute linen kitchen towels! LOL……had to get something!

Anything here catch your eye? That wraps up? my mini recap on Brimfield. Ever gone? Care to go? Love to know your thoughts and impressions if you have!? I love the thrill of the hunt and that is what makes these kinds of events such fun! I am just about ready for another one! Click here to learn all about Brimfield. Thanks as always for stopping in!

Late week musings…..

Hello, can’t believe it’s Friday. Having been away for part of the week, it really feels like it flew! Hope you are well and have had a good week. I will be out of town today but will hopefully be back with a post on Sunday, if not for sure Monday. Wishing you a fabulous spring weekend, let’s get started…….

My house. Everything is in bloom around here and I am loving it! The azaleas are magnificent in all their vivid pinks and reds, normally I am a “white flower” kind of gal but have to say I make an exception for these beauties…against the backdrop of the lush greenery coming into bloom, everything looks so pretty. I forgot just how beautiful spring is, have a look……..

This is my favorite spot on our property, an old pond/fountain (no longer in use) but we are restoring it. We kept the landscape just as it’s always been, mature and very lush…it truly feels like a little enchanted garden, and there is the original birdbath which we also kept in the same place, its a very special serene place……

The little “trail” that leads up to the house………..

?
Great food. You can always count on me to come up with something good on this subject! If I wasn’t on a diet, this is what I would be attempting to make, how good does this look!!!!!!!! Visit the Greedy Gourmand here to get the lowdown on how to? make it……it’s as pretty as delicious I am sure!

The Mayflower Inn and Spa. Just in case you missed my post/review on my recent stay at this incredible place, you must visit the post, click here.

Artwork. I had sweet Jeanne of I dream of make up my logo, she is a very talented artist and she did a spectacular job. I had shared the completed work here last year but just recently got the original art and it is just so beautiful. Jeanne? had to take some time off due to a relative’s illness but hopefully she will be back in blogland soon, I know her presence has been missed greatly. I am so happy to have this beautiful artwork as a keepsake of her amazing talent.? Thanks again Jeanne!

Crests. I have such a “thing” for them….am always drawn to them. Was in an antique shop a few weeks ago in CT. and spotted this spectacular set of antique prints beautifully framed, so excited!! I needed to do a minor repair on them and they are back and ready to be hung! There are so many places I could put these……

Shop news. I am adding a bunch of new wonderful Staffordshire doggies to my shop. Dogs remain super popular and are just a wonderful decorative motif for virtually any kind of home. Some of these are bigger than some of my current ones and then I am adding some fabulous colors like orange, pink and red in the minis! Aren’t they beautiful! These will up for sale by the weekend.

Love this family of dogs……wonderful!

Love this family! 7 X 6.5 X 3?
Mini Staffordshires in fun colors, too cute…..

And this larger pair in orange…..
8.6 x 6 x 9
How cute are these (comes with one left and one right facing dog)? 8 x 5 x 11 (comes in 2 colorways)

And very excited about a few new exceptionally beautiful additions to the statuary line (I literally want one of everything)…..all of these as of today will be up in my online store! This line is just exceptoinal, and every item is offered in one of 6 finishes…the white moss (shown) being the most popular.

Adore this dog holding the basket of flowers, perfect for flanking a front door or on a patio 9 x 16 x 24

Great food. You can always count on me to come up with something good on this subject! If I wasn’t on a diet, this is what I would be attempting to make, how good does this look!!!!!!!! Visit the Greedy Gourmand here to get the lowdown on how to  make it……it’s as pretty as delicious I am sure!

Jeanne  had to take some time off due to a relative’s illness but hopefully she will be back in blogland soon, I know her presence has been missed greatly. I am so happy to have this beautiful artwork as a keepsake of her amazing talent.

Mini Staffordshires in fun colors, too cute…..

And this larger pair in orange…..
8.6 x 6 x 9
How cute are these (comes with one left and one right facing dog)  8 x 5 x 11 (comes in 2 colorways)

And this stunning planter shown on the garland pedestal, also both now listed (I have ordered this identical pair for myself)…….
And how beautiful is this for a garden, a trio of cherubs….love it!   19 x 19 x 23

And this beautiful  shell urn finial atop something or placed on the ground as a pair, very elegant, 8 x10 x 15

And this beautiful oversized acorn finial, beautiful atop something or as a pair by a door…14 x 14 x 29 (also comes in one size smaller)……..

22 x 7 x 30 Beautiful crest frieze

Cromel overdoor frieze…love this!! 32 x 18 x 4

So there you have it! That’s what new and exciting over here. What’s going on in your world? Do you have spring fever yet?  Hope the sun is shining over where you are and wishing you a wonderful day and end to your week. Be back soon……have a great weekend!

Store biz, new products and updates!

Happy Sunday night…….and how have you been these last four days? I missed being on my blog…..always miss being in “my happy place”! I wanted to give you an overdue store update post as well as address questions that have been asked fairly often.

Though I wasn’t planning on adding my new goodies until late summer, you know me, when things are happening or come in, I have no patience and I am busting at the seams to share with you! I get lots of questions and figured this would be an easy way to answer them as well as update many of you on whats new and exciting! Lots of you have asked me for lamps, the blue and white bathroom accessories I featured months ago, ask for more statuary and many of you want hand painted tole pieces….so this post is for you!

To address various emails and inquiries in one fell swoop……..

  • The canvas art and statuary are made to order and take about 4 weeks but some canvas art is in stock and on occasion I can get something to you in a week or two.?
  • The statuary as of late Aug. will start being offered in 8 different finishes. ?
  • Most monogrammed linens ship out within 5 days, almost all porcelain, pillows and silver in stock as well.?
  • The silver line is going to be extended and several gorgeous new pieces will soon be added, a few taken away that are discontinued
  • I am going to soon announce a frequent buyer program which will offer some enticing incentives! I love my repeat customers as much as I love chocolate. Well almost:)
  • Candles are being discontinued except for the crystal hurricane gardenia candles (like The Ritz carries) though there will be a price increase in the fall.
  • ?I am going to add lamps and possibly another category.?
  • In addition as the holidays approach, I will offer special promotions as well as a section for gifts under $50 and one for gifts under $100. As always, feel free to email me anytime with any questions you may have, happy to answer!
  • Frames are going to be phased out, selling what I have left.
  • Bookends for now are not going to be carried, they are heavy to ship and breakable.
  • The dough bowls I carry are real antiques, not repros…so no two are alike. Every one is a slightly different size and on occasion I can get smaller ones but the long ones tend to be quite big, generally about 26″ and up. Every now and then I get a smaller one but you need to ask first especially if you are looking for a specific size
  • The belljars stock changes everyday. The tulip which is quite popular is due in Oct. and will come in S,M,L and XL. There will be limited quantities and I already have several orders for them. The deep cut and floral etching right now are for the most in stock in all of the above sizes except M. These two styles and the tulip are the three best selling.

One area I am planning on putting a lot of focus on is lamps….many of you have asked for them and I know from personal experience really great lamps are not so easy to find, crazy as it is! ?I have sold some of these already to rave reviews. Not only are they gorgeous but they are VERY well priced. Again these will be added sometime next week, but feel free to email me if you have any questions. There are many more other than what is shown, so if you have a specific size or color theme you are looking for just email me! So many to love………..

And I am getting in a “trial order’ of these pieces, ?would love your feedback! All are handpainted and have a strong chinoiserie theme going on, which I think is elegant and timeless, real statement pieces and again excellent price point. Plus it appears the whole chinoiserie thing while to me never went out of style is in vogue once again. I think they are stunning…..

And last plan on adding many pieces to my statuary/planter line, I have done extremely well with it and everyone is so excited when they get it because as they say its even prettier in person (always a nice surprise with anything, don’t you think)! Best part is they have the look of old world statuary, but are lightweight can be kept out year round and are being offered in 8 colors, though the white moss is my personal fave and by far the most popular. Some of the items I will be adding. And as this line is extensive, if you have a particular item in mind or a certain size planter, email me chances are they have it!

And certainly last but not least……from the gorgeous pewter line, some truly stunning new additions! Some current items will no longer be available but some special pretties will take their place. BTW for any of you waiting on the popular squirrel nut bowl, getting in five this week so order if you are interested. Feast your eyes on these……

Weekend musings………

Hi..how is your weekend going? Finally the first weekend in a loong time that we only have dinner plans on the calendar and not much else and ?I have come down with something! Not sure if its allergies or a cold, but I have basically lost my voice……so looks like it will be a weekend to rest and get better (great weekend to catch the Olympic action). Plus its supposed to thunderstorm and I LOVE being in when its nasty besides not much I can do to fight it. Didn’t think allergies could flare up this time of year but several have told me its really bad right now! Onto other things like the house…… Both powder rooms are officially in the works (window treatments) so I am a happy camper. Plus I have other small projects happening..so things are moving and shaking here.

For the powder room off the kitchen, the more casual one….I fell in love with this wallpaper and wanted a more casual fabric for the windows, so got a silk gingham (if there is leftover would love to make a dress out of it)! And don’t you LOVE when you find the perfect trim? Well lo and behold I found it my one day last week which was a super productive day..I mean I was on fire. There it was….a no brainer. I didn’t ?have to think, I ordered it then and there and its en route to the fabricator! Cannot wait to see this room complete. I love completed rooms (really don’t have any but its so nice when you know a room is done)!!

My attention next is going to four rooms, I know ambitious for someone who has been pretty lame lately…..but trust me I am pacing myself but need to take full advantage of when the mood strikes! My bedroom, the guest room, the living room and the dining room. The dining room already has the table, and we chose the Charis so now its just finalizing the fabric, and I decided i am going simple, so I can really focus on the chinoiserie walls and allow that to be the statement in the room. For my bedroom and the guest room..I have a small album of inspirations that I keep handy, so here are some of them……..

For the guest room I am doing a bed just like the one below…..and fabric inspirations waver between going with the blues and creams to doing something more monochromatic…..hummmm!

This is a very pale green with taupes and beiges

Blue and white…a classic
Another option….

And yet another

Another beautiful pattern
The queen bed will look just like this (with a coordinating check) Anything above standing out to you when you visualize it like the bed below?
For our dining room we have ordered this Ralph Lauren chandelier. We had a beautiful antique chandelier in our old house but its too small for our current dining room. So, this was instant love when I laid eyes on it..cannot wait to see it up! Here it is in the store…..

OK now something I have been thinking about for my kitchen, I LOVE my kitchen, not like but love. It is everything I ever wanted, but one small detail I thought about when I was selecting hardware but chickened out on was putting antique brass hardware on my island. I actually like not seeing everything so “matchy matchy” in a kitchen and like when I see the island have something different, its almost like apiece of furniture. The oil rubbed bronze, though beautiful just blends into the black of the island so its not pronounced. Below is picture for you to see…..and then below it what I am considering, its really beautiful and very heavy duty, looks like it came off of some old yacht or something, it looks aged and is unlacquered brass….thoughts???? ?Would love to hear your opinions!
And here are some of the pieces…
This beauty comes in 4″ and a 12″ I would put two 12″ on either end of the island to hold towels…like that look!

The heavy duty pulls…..

I love traditional planters, simple, and love anything with a lattice or trellis design. SO I am very excited?that I bit the bullet and ordered these gorgeous planters in the limestone finish. They are going to be so pretty with a beautiful topiary of some sort and overflowing white flowers on the bottom with ivy spilling out. I have the vision very alive in my head. This is from the line I carry and I am so in love with each and every thing they carry. Plus these are big, 36″ tall by 36″ wide…very generous, cannot wait!! Happy birthday to my husband. Dont’ tell me i am the only one who gets things I love but likes to act like they are a “gift” for those we love……….

? ?Then ordered a few of these for the patio……they come in three sizes, very classic design.

So ordered this one for the pool area…..

Debating between all these beauties…HELP! Which one? I want one for around the pool……whichever I do will be in the aged moss (as shown in most of the pictures) though 8 finishes are offered, the aged moss goes best with my house.

If I do these, I will do the pair………so pretty!! I have a “thing” for classical cherubs!

Which of the cherubs is your favorite? I love them all and honestly having a heck of a time deciding!?
And here for no real reason at all, other than I just love these pictures that make me feeling something…..
Isnt’ this an amazing picture??
I have been in love with this picture for forever…the colors, the setting, the time of day and lighting, I am imagining its near Provence or Tuscany, the table is waiting to be set with a rustic elegant dinner for friends and family…..ahhhh love this picture!
Last random tidbit, probably my most favorite dessert in the entire world is a really good key lime pie…the tanginess of lime with the buttery crunch of the graham cracker crust….can I get a “yum”! So…..this is being hailed as the best recipe and was featured on Oprah as such…….planning to make this one day very soon but just in case you are in a baking mood, here it is…and promise me you will tell me if its really “all that”!
Best Key Lime Pie
Servings:?Serves 8
Ingredients:
Graham Cracker Crust:
  • 3/4 pound graham crackers
  • 4 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 2 sticks melted butter
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt
Filling:
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 can (14 ounces) condensed milk
  • 2/3 cup fresh Key lime juice
  • 1 lime , grated zest
Topping:
  • 1 cup heavy or whipping cream , chilled
  • 2 Tbsp. confectioners? sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions:
To make graham cracker crust:?Preheat the oven to 325?.
Break up the graham crackers, place in a food processor and process to crumbs. Add the melted butter, sugar and salt and pulse until combined. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan, forming an even layer on the bottom, sides and edge. Bake the crust for 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow the crust to cool.
To make filling:?While the crust is resting, in an electric mixer with the wire whisk attachment, whip the egg yolks and lime zest at high speed until fluffy, or 5 to 6 minutes. Gradually add the condensed milk and continue to whip until thick, 3 to 4 minutes longer. Lower the mixer speed and slowly add the lime juice until incorporated.
Pour the mixture into the crust and bake for 15 minutes, or until the filling has just set. Cool on a wire rack, and then refrigerate for 20 minutes.
To make topping:?Whip the cream, confectioners? sugar and vanilla until nearly stiff. Evenly spread the whipped cream on top of the pie, and place in the freezer for 20 minutes prior to serving.
So….that’s what’s new around here. Wishing everyone a fabulous weekend……filled with good things, great food, lots of laughter and the Olympics!
