Sunday Showhouse and you’re invited!!!

Good morning everyone! I was again humbled to receive an award from not one but two blogs!!! This has been some week! The first was from Melissah from Scrapbook….. I share her views on living a beautiful life so hope if you don’t know of her blog already you will pay her a visit, truly something beautiful and inspirational always! The second one is from Linda of?Seaside style, another one of my daily reads. Her emphasis is on everything coastal which is a love for me, she has great style and always find the best pictures of elegant coastal living. In accepting this award we are asked to reveal 7 things about ourselves and then pass it on to 15 other deserving blogs. So here we go……….

1. I would love to write a screenplay/novel by the time I am 50
2. I wish I had had more children, feel too young to almost be an empty nester and am having a harder time with?that than I ever thought possible (youngest is 15) ?

3. My retirement plan- to retire in Napa Valley with a little pied a terre in Paris and the perfect little beach house at the waters edge in the Hamptons…..that’s not asking too much is it? ?(Ugh…just realized by my first 3 things I am really making myself sound old! I am in my “mid forties” ?and feel like I am 30 just so you know…lol)

4. That I always feel like I was born in the wrong era, so am not in step with “social media” with it being the current popular means on how to keep in touch, am a stickler for good manners (seems to be extinct), am big on WRITING out thank yous and invites not “eviting or ethanking”, love old fashioned beautiful at home dinner parties (I am in the minority) , love holding, smelling a book and feeling its crisp pages and love the old fashioned traditions that sadly seem to be evaporating from our society as a whole.

5.You know those Christmas village displays that make their debut every holiday? I am totally mesmerized by them, I stare at them transfixed, wanting to literally jump into those perfect idyllic settings, all the kids going to the local skating rink, hearing a dinner bell at 5 so they can all run home and sit down AS A FAMILY to a wonderful aromatic home cooked dinner, where the postmaster knows everyone by name, where people only communicate by TALKING, etc….you get my drift!

6.I have a long standing fascination/obsession with Mount Everest. Read most books on the subject published in the last 10 years and have seen most movies on it as well. Dont’ know why, Lord knows I would not have to guts to do it though I briefly fantasized/toyed with the idea going so far as to talking to expedition outfits, really now…..who was I kidding? Me? The one who can’t take an elevator, the one who freaks out when it snows more than 6 inches, wears 4 layers of clothes in 25 degree weather and who cannot go even 3 hours without a major meal!

7. I have a very long (and growing) ?bucket list of things I hope to start accomplishing once I move and settle in. Included are writing a screenplay, opening a farm to table restaurant, starting my own design business, have a design idea I want to look into getting patented, having a kid come and stay with us next summer from the Fresh Air Fund, open up a quaint bookstore/cafe/bakery that plays only jazz music and we will have our “jazz nights” where local artists will come in and play display local talent (think the shop from Its complicated) That is just a few amongst a number of other things…things that will keep me busy a very very long time:)

And last to the blogs who I am passing this award onto, I do so because I enjoy your blogs immensely, must make them part of my “daily blog routine” and am always intrigued and captivated by what you have to say. Thanks for doing what you do! There are so many more but these are some that I have been really enjoying as of late, and I so appreciate ?the work, effort and creativity you add to your beautiful and highly inspirational daily posts! (click on each to visit….I promise its worth the click)

Now moving on to our GORGEOUS Sunday showhouse, we start in the luxurious countryside of idyllic Virginia and end up in swanky Beverly Hills and Newport Coast California. Three very different homes and settings, but all quite stunning. Which is your favorite?

WARRENTON, VIRGINIA. This absolute incredible, majestic elegant equestrian estate on only 1466 acres in Warrneton, Virginia is the epitome of what “high country” elegance is all about. With an expansive compound including a carriage house, a full equestrian facility, several guest houses, a shooting preserve and so much more, this has it covered! A full home restoration has recently been done and has been placed on the Historical Register. How incredible is this gracious Virginia home! I am ready to move right in…..and never leave!

Love this time worn entrance, so gracious

Beautiful stately staircase graces the front hall
Formal living room
Sitting area off the main foyer
Love the dining room….country elegance personafied!

Charming breakfast room

Love the grand sonte entrance

One of the many charming guest homes

The farm buildings

Another guest house

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA Moving on…..to this newer construction in Beverly Hills, California. This home was built a few years and was inspired by a Tuscan villa. This is not an overly large home and is on an even smaller lot but they used high ceilings to give it a much grander feel, love the dark casing on the many french doors and ?casement windows. Despite being on a small piece of property, full advantage was taken of every inch to create their own lush oasis in the back with a beautiful pool and stunning loggia setting complete with outdoor fireplace! They went with a more transitional feel for the decor, see what you think!

Grand entrance………

This is such a bright and uplifting dining room, love that banquette at the end!
Family room
Elegant living room….think I would have preferred wood here over marble, makes it feel a little cold and sterile
Love this french door in the library
A butlers pantry, love those dark doors
The kitchen
Breakfast area off the kitchen
Has their own elevator
A small gym/workout area
Lower level recreation room, wow a pool room with a chandalier!
Sunken movie theater..quite nice (dont’ know about the red suede though)
This is a wonderful area, great for outdoor entertaining, looks so inviting
Back pool area
Rear view of the home
NEWPORT COAST, CALIFORNIA. I rarely feature modern homes in my posts. It does not reflect my personal style yet I have an absolute appreciation for them when done right. I think this very sophisticated home in Newport Beach achieves just that. It has open sunlit soaring spaces, and though it is done with a more minimalist style in mind, it was done with much integrity and ?all on a very proper scale. I know some of my readers like this style so thought it would be fun to break it up a little and feature something different. That pool setting is quite amazing!
Very attractive facade which appears to be done in limestone
I like the use of materials and cool color palette

The grand living room
One of the few rooms where they added drapes to soften things up a bit
Probably my least favorite room, feels too cold and sterile for me

Dining room

Sunken TV room/family room
Lower level wine cellar, I like the concrete walls
This hallway is incredible…looks like its leading to a beautiful spa!
Elegant and generously sized master bathroom
Theater, not a fan of black leather or red carpet however

Very large gym
Part of the elaborate backyard pool setting
This rivals many hotel pools!!
The main pool and rear facade
So there you have it! Which is your favorite? Would love to know. ?That Virigina compound is calling my name……but each of them offers something to be sure. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!!

Sunday Showhouse, and you’re invited!!

Happy Sunday to you! Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Ours I must say has been pretty relaxing, so I am not complaining other than I wish we could press a pause button for summer. Anyone else feeling like its going by far too quickly? Right now it is pouring cats and dogs, but I am loving it, makes the perfect excuse to be inside and relax! On a side note, several left messages and emails about asking for a basic mood board tutorial(since I bragged in yesterdays post about finally being able to make one though it was super basic). Like you, I was intimidated and totally at a loss of where and how to begin. But I found a way, and the bigger surprise was that it was ridiculously easy! I would love to take more credit though so feel free to give it to me:) I will be posting a short how to on my Tuesday post, so stay tuned!!

To me, summer getaways are the best, going near the water automatically transforms your mind, body and spirit. Today is all about escaping to dreamy vacation homes on the Northeast coast, think Bar Harbour, Nantucket, you get the picture! Gorgeous lake and ocean views, soft soothing color palettes, big open welcoming kitchens just begging for a dinner with?family and friends, open and airy bedrooms with expansive views. Understated, getaway elegance at its best. Sound good? Yes to me too! So, sit back, relax and lets get away!

BAR HARBOUR, MAINE. This fabulous home was built to take maximum advantage of the water views from virtually every room. ?I wish I could click my heels and be there right this very minute. It is perfection in my book, and the interiors do not disappoint. It is done so elegantly in a timeless understated fashion, but one that beckons you in, it feels so comfortable and livable. The setting is just incredible, with?its own private beach, it is truly a small slice of heaven. What do you think ?of this ” as pretty as a picture” home?

Is this picture perfect or what? The setting is as pretty as a painting!
Here is where we would devour our nightly lobster dinners
Part of the elegant pantry in the kitchen, love the floors the cabinetry color
The views from every room are out of this world! Some fierce scrabble and chess games would go down here……
Love the?openness of all the spaces
This is a room I would spend A LOT of quiet time in, reading?
This entrance is the ultimate welcome to a beautiful weekend on the water
The setting is majestic, pure and simple
Private, secluded, and serene……I will take it!
NANTUCKET, MASS. This fabulous enclave needs no introduction. Love the way this incredible home is situated on the water but has the luxury of a nice sized yard complete with beautiful pool. Every conceivable luxury is to be found here, but it is done in the low key Nantucket style for which they are famous. Windows for the most part are treated with simple window treatments to take full advantage of the water that surrounds them. A soothing palette of soft blues and whites dominate the house. ?A great home for living and an even better home for entertaining! Come on in……
Love how the house is situated
Beautiful pool with waterfall on far side of the home
Your own private walkway to the beach…..
Pretty gleaming woods and lots of blue and white, perfect for this house!
Crisp, light and airy

An office with a view…..work wouldn’t seem so bad from here

Casual light and airy open kitchen
Cozy TV room made for late night movies and midday matinees!
Simple but fresh and welcoming and the views brings it up a few notches!
Big open bathroom with lots of space and distant water views
This could come in handy!
And let me present the art gallery room, filled with all kinds of interesting sculptures (yes I know what an exercise room is, but that’s how foreign they are to me..lol)
Beautiful vistas from the rooftop deck
MARTHAS VINEYARD,MASS. Last is this incredibly charming vacation home on the picturesque island of Marthas Vineyard. The interiors were done by?Twanette Tharp, who resides in this charmer. This actually is two homes which she purchased and completely renovated soup to nuts. Perfectly perched right at the mouth of the harbor, this home gets the added bonus of getting?to watch the ships, yachts and boats cruise in and out all day long.It is above all else, so relaxed looking. ?Done in ?a laid back but elegant nautical style, this is a home I would be happy to get away to!
Charming and understated
Ahhh, I can hear the seagulls and feel the rush of the harbor breeze now!
What a perfect spot to have your meals!
The two houses that comprise this charming compound
I would plant myself in those comfy chairs for the entire day with a view like that!
This to me, personifies elegant beach living
Three beautiful levels of outdoor spaces make this so wonderful, love the al fresco set up!
I wish I was packing my bags to head to one of these beauties now! Have a personal favorite? The first time I saw the first one, my heart skipped a beat. I couldnt’ have it for a vacation house because I would never ever want to leave! So the third one would be a perfect little vacation place, not too big, really charming, amazing location, beautiful views and looks like it would be fairly low maintenance. The second one however is so light and airy and that view….hard to make a decision here! There is not a bad choice amongst them..all fabulous! How about you? Hope you have a wonderful Sunday!!

Sunday Showhouse, and you’re invited!!

Good morning, I feel like summers lazy, slower paced days are slipping away, and I am not liking that. The official event that tells me summers sweet days won’t last forever?is when I start to see back to school supplies…..ugh! With the time, like an hour glass slowly fading away…I am suddenly craving more than ever a seriously relaxing getaway. As we are in the home stretch of building our house, that is highly unlikely (best I can hope for is a few days at the beach) so I am taking a virtual fantasy trip today….all the homes today are incredibly grand, the first house being in the Bahamas has me longing for a lazy, “do as I please” weekend, going there would suit me just fine, then we move onto two equally grand homes in their own right, and again with spaces so over the top…..a weekend there would be heaven. Come take a look…..

CA’LIZA BAHAMAS, I have always loved this home. This magnificent Island colonial home is named after the owners daughter, Eliza. This is just the epitome of understated Island sophistication. Just a glorious home with a soothing and pale palette to promise the most welcoming and relaxed ambiance. The open shutter windows to allow the island breezes are in every room with?a large loggia off of the back facing the ocean. Does it get any dreamier than this? I think not!

Love the exterior, very tall but not imposing, of course the shutters add so much
Now this is what I call a loggia!

I love the tranquility of this space, I can see this being a cozy spot to indulge in a great book
What a view, will have my afternoon cocktail here, thank you!
Soft and tonal, neutral dining room
Love the kitchen too….
How about this bedroom? So chic….

NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA Then we travel to the west coast and to gorgeous Newport Beach, perched high on the hill to take full advantage of the majestic water views, this rather opulent home is quite impressive. Though the interior furnishings do not reflect my personal style, and think they are overdone, ?I am still wowed by this house and the exteriors and grounds/views are beyond incredible. With a few improvements and furniture changes here and there, this is and could be ones ultimate dream home. I would however want to live outside, I am just mesmerized by that setting.
You know with an entrance like this…something fabulos lies beyond!

Love an interior courtyard
Would want to do a redo here
Not a huge fan of red dining rooms, just my personal opinion
This is a cozy family room, I like the grays and soft tones
The kitchen looks really pretty and open, with big open doors and windows to the outside
A bathroom fit for a queen and as I typed this sure enough..there is a tiara over there!
Love the way this loggia is done…..overlooking the pool
Breathtaking don’t you think?
Oh the meals we would enjoy here…….this is where I would spend all my time
Quite spectacular…..perched way high up on the hill it takes full advanatage of the water views
Gorgeous!
Something about a house at dusk with all the lights on…its magical!
This is too much! I would go cross eyed, not sure if I should stare at the water view or the TV! (But I suppose I could get used to it, haha)
Oh and did I mention there is a dock and landing for your yacht? You do have one, don’t you?
LAKE FOREST, ILLINOIS. This older elegant estate home is an understated manor that has been lovingly restored and maintained. What I love here, is whether or not its your taste, that they stayed true to the integrity of the home when they undertook the renovation and followed through with equally appropriate decor. I think it happens to be quite beautiful and certainly very grand. The formal gardens are dreamy and overall this is a very special and stately home. Step inside!
Beautiful elegant and stately living room (love the wall color, a sand color)
Love this fabulous wide gallery/hallway off the main foyer
Updated fresh English style kitchen perfect for big get togethers!

Formal, wood paneled library for your reading pleasure
Don’t you love this hallway? I do!

Increidble formal Parterre gardens are a perfect setting for afternoon coffee

A beautiful pond filled with looks like Carp fish grace the beautiful gardens
Three incredible homes…any of which I would be thrilled to live in. I do love the first one for its light, airy but so sophisticated Island feel…then that second ones views and grounds are just out of this world not to mention that the entrance isn’t too shabby either, and last the understated elegance of the last one cannot be discounted, it is quietly fabulous. Do you have a favorite? Love to know! Have a great Sunday!

Sunday Showhouse, and you’re invited!!

Good morning. At last this increidble, to be believed heat wave is due to break, it has been unbearable! Hope things are calming down where you are too. Today we visit 3 lovely homes starting off in beautiful Atlanta, then venturing off to picturesque Napa Valley and last to posh Greenwich, CT. Three very different homes, each with their own distinct personality but each equally beautiful, as they range from casual Napa style to formal European influenced to old world stone regal. I see something in each that I love so it would be hard to pick a favorite, as there are many beautiful elements within each of these exquisite homes. You know I always love to know what you love and which would be your pick so take a look and let me know. Wishing you a happy and relaxing Sunday!

ATLANTA, GEORGIA This stunning French styled manor home is located in the heart of beautiful Buckhead. This graceful and large home is an entertainers dream! Beautiful European influenced interiors compliment the gorgeous materials used throughout. The property is beautifully landscaped, not overly done which is my personal style and the lap pool, family room and kitchen in particular are just incredible!! Step on inside…..

Love the kitchen with its brick wall, beautiful!

I just love this room, the woods are so warm, the scale of the room amazing

The limestone cladding in the foyer is really pretty and a beautiful old world touch

As pretty as a postcard

I love this angle, just fabulous!

NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA We scale down a bit heading over to picturesque Napa Valley but don’t let the small simple facade here fool you. One step inside and you are in for a real treat! Love how the builders successfully made the indoors and outdoors become one with soaring walls of glass, lots of reclaimed materials and a beautiful open airy layout to take full advantage of the magnificent vistas of acres and acres of vineyards that beckon. This looks like a really happy home, one that would be filled with lots of wine tastings and dinner al fresco with family and friends! Love this……

It might looks small and unassuming from the outside

Love the wall of glass which you see a lot in the homes in Napa
This is so beautiful, I could see wine tastings and fabulous al fresco dinners here
What a view!
Love the big wide open spaces and the vistas are breathtaking
Of course there is a wine cellar…..and this one is quite amazing!
A wine cellar with a view…gotta love it!
GREENWICH, CT. Last we visit this fabulous 1928 stone manor home built for Florence Rockefeller Sloane in gorgeous Greenwich, CT. The grounds are just breathtaking and the interiors, while parts might appear dated have been beautifully maintainted and are in pristine condition. Its a grand home but understated and loaded with elegant charm. The lush and formal gardens are old and stately, only adding to the incredible charm of this fabulous estate. Take a peek…..
So regal and stately

This is screesaver worthy!
Elegant black and white is so timeless

Well three vastly different homes, in very different parts of our country. Which would be your choice if you had to pick up and relocate tomorrow? Does one style resonate with your own? Its always fun to know what you think! Enjoy your Sunday, may it be relaxing and the key word…cool!!

Sunday Showhouse, you’re invited!!

Happy Sunday! Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer so far. I feel like its going by way too fast though and I just want to hit the pause button. When I think of summer, I think of getaways to the lake, to the beach and relaxation. Summer is about downtime and decompressing from life’s maddening pace and nothing to me, is as relaxing as being near the water. It is practically hypnotizing! Today we take our time and head to three gorgeous homes near the water. This is all about a casual but elegant and low key weekend getaway to a lake house. Who doesn’t dream about escaping life’s chaos and unwinding by a lazy lake with your biggest worry being about which book to read? Sounds good to me! Give me a bottle or two of wine for the weekend, some good company, great food and soft music…I am good to go! First we start off in gorgeous picturesque Montana.

LAKE HEAD, MONTANA This incredible three structure compound was completed by architect, Arthur Anderson and designer Mimi London. All three buildings face directly onto the lake and the main lodge is the crown jewel. There are many vintage pieces that work beautifully with several more contemporary pieces. Tree line views from every other window ?make this a home where every room is nothing short of breathtaking……I could definitely enjoy getting away to a gorgeous compound like this.

Love the mix of materials here, the warm woods, metal doors, stone fireplace
Truly a room with a view!
Really like the structure
Imagine the sunsets from this spot with a glass of wine in hand

This is a cozy outdoor space with its own fireplace
The views are incredible…
How dramatic are these soaring walls of glass!
MEXICO. Michael Schaible designed this fabulous minimalist modern home in Ajijic, Mexico. The door was painted a beautiful vivid blue which was drawn from inspiration in one of the owners Matisse paintings. Built on beautiful Lake Chapala, the setting is nothing less than fabulous. Funny that from the street, there is little clue to the beauty and drama that lies beyond that blue door! Love the dramatic soaring spaces and huge walls of glass. This is an entertainers dream!! Take a look…..
This is GORGEOUS!

Love the white against the black….
Gorgeous drama in the dining room
How inviting is this spot?
Love all the metal doors…..

Love this space…..great for a cocktail party!
SOUTHAMPTON, NEW YORK. Finally we head towards Georgica Pond to the famous Hamptons, where this fabulous perched high on a hill Southampton beauty commands killer views of both the lake and distant ocean. I love the decor here, quintessentially “elegant sophisticated beachy.” Mariette Himes Gomez designed the fabulous interiors. I would happily get away to this home every weekend every season!

Great soaring space that manages to still feel cozy….love the ceiling!
Love this monochromatic and elegant dining room….perfect for informal entertaining

Views are breathtaking from every room!

I would spend a lot of time on this deck!

So pretty how its nestled in the dunes

So do you have a favorite? There is something charming, unique and beautiful about each one and I would be only too happy to call any of these a weekend getaway. Would love to know what your thoughts are. Wishing you a wonderul and relaxing Sunday!
