Random weekend musings…..

Hello there, I am soooooo happy its the? weekend. I seriously need some major downtime to do absolutely nothing. Except for dinner plans tonight, a casual BBQ tomorrow and one game, we have little on the agenda and that is music to my ears. Last week was an exceptionally crazy week, that kind of week where every single minute is accounted for, I barely had quality time with my beloved computer and blogland and I missed it so much, it’s my “happy place”. So finally a chance to sit down for a bit and catch up on all I have missed and share my weekly musings with you. Here we go……

HOUSE. One exciting thing is that I am getting closer to pulling the trigger on my chinoiserie paper for the dining room. Woo hoo! Once the chairs came in it made me want to complete that room once and for all. So I stumbled across a picture a few weeks ago that was an aha moment for me, the colors were spot on and it has since become my reference for what I want the paper to look like (though a slightly different design). Take a look and also a window treatment I am considering that I think will look fabulous in that room. I am getting exited at the thought of finishing this room!

And here is my room in its current state with its boring whitish walls…

ORCHIDS. I love orchids. Honestly to me they are actually a bargain flower. When you consider how long they last…..they are so worth the money.? Lets say you spend $75.00 on an orchid, a dozen roses or a large bunch of beautiful flowers could easily cost that and they last, what a week if you are lucky….the orchid on the other hand, at least a few months!

Its like the gift that keeps on giving. So every few months I pick up a few here and there. I have one place that carries sensational orchids which are pricey but worth it but truth be told I have picked up orchids at places like Whole Foods and Home Depot for next to nothing and had them last a long time. So picked up 8 new plants and added some to a very large tole planter from Italy that I have had a while…..

GORGEOUS TOLE. One of my most favorite things I carry in my online shop is the new custom line of tole. It is truly exceptional in every way. I have placed a few orders lately and one was my very own! I ordered the blue and white chinoiserie lamps I have been wanting for oh about eight years! I looooove them and am now working on getting the shades. Maybe this will finally prompt me to finish my room once and for all!!

?On top of that I took a little trip and got to visit the factory, I am working on a few custom lighting orders right now so it was worth the trip. This is a source that the top designers in the world use and their products grace the most sensational homes.? I was in tole nirvana, seriously the beauty stopped me dead in my tracks. I wanted one of everything!!! They work with Benjamin Moore colors and every single pieces is customized to your specifications. The work is out of this world! Click here to see my gallery online of some of the many pieces they do. Check out the beauty……

?A lantern for a current customer, primed and waiting the customization

?Love this oversized tray table…isn’t it stunning!

?Custom dog lamp….you provide a pic of your pooch and a lamp in his/her honor is made up!

?Part of the customization process..we are finalizing colors for this gorgeous lantern!

?And this one is in the works too…..love it!
?Just ordered this for a customer, isn’t she a beauty!

?LOVE these sconces too…..need to have them!
?Seriously…just being there gave me serious heart palpitations!

?Mr. Charles Faudree has used this particular one a lot…love it!
?How wonderful is this amazing mirror? Love the design and fabulous color!

?Brainstorming about where I could personally use both of these beauties!!
Ready to see my lamps? Still need the shades but here they are…….

BOOKS. Got a few books and trying to get back into my old habit of reading on a regular basis. One I just finished that was powerful and quite incredible was Brain on fire I could literally not put it down and read it in 2 days! . A true story of one women’s? terrifying account of a mysterious brain disease that takes her over, it is an incredible story! Then the two that follows are on my nightstand ready to be tackled…….

Awesome read!

NEW BEAUTY PRODUCTS!? Always enjoy sharing new products with you that I am loving. This was actually received as a gift which makes it even sweeter! But I would absolutely buy on my own (and will). This is a product I really wanted to try and then I was lucky enough to win it over at my buddy, Stacy’s blog South Shore Decorating (on a side note great blog that has an amazing plethora of interior design pictures)

Now, its only been 2 days but so far so good! It does in fact reduce the puffiness under the eyes. It contains the wonder peptite, SNAP,-8 considered to be the safe gentler alternative to Botox and red and green seaweed amongst other key ingredients. So far I am indeed a believer! Thanks Stacy!

A BEAUTIFUL PARTY. “Met” a new blogger, Ashely who had emailed me about my blog,? who has a gorgeous blog, Sparkle Sense? where? she shared this gorgeous bridal luncheon which was thrown in her honor (lucky lady)? that had to be shared. I am always on the prowl for great new finds and one of the things I was looking for was a high quality preserved boxwood line. Well I found it! They will be added to my online shop this week but if you are interested in placing an order, several pieces are in stock, so feel free to contact me. Take a look…..

?A classic ball and cone topiary, so elegant!
?The pretty 10″ half ball is perfect for planters…
The 10″ boxwood balls in my stone anduze planters…for outside

I had many email me about extra bags and I promised that as soon as all orders shipped I would see what was left so for anyone who is interested, here is what I have. Still being offered at the promotional price of $375 for the large and $355 for the med. As of next week, they will be a permanent fixture on my online shop! Email me with any inquires.

Finally this is one of my all time favorite songs of all time, and this particular performance is sooo amazing, guaranteed to give you chills, tears and maybe both:)? That Charice is one amazing powerhouse! I want to see her in concert……

And one final thought to anyone with a daughter, you might find this funny…

hahahahaha, thought you would get a chuckle out of this one!

So that about wraps up what is new and exciting over here. Thanks so? much for stopping in and wishing you a fabulous Saturday and a wonderful weekend.

Say hello to my newest custom tole line and a tole giveaway!

Good morning! If you are a member of the “tole anonymous club” or just a casual lover of tole……hold on tight, you might just get heart palpitations over this line so be sure you are sitting down:)? If you have been coming here for a month or two years, you know the things? that my love is unabashed for. Those would be monograms, blue and white, beautiful interiors, gorgeous linens, great food, and tole. I do love my tole. It is not as easy to find today, as often the process is rather painstaking and the chinoiserie artwork requires skilled artisans, who seem to be few and far between.

I have sold my fair share of tole and always am on the prowl for the next great thing. I am very excited to be offering a line of custom tole products. I have ordered from this company myself a few years ago and have since done some custom work with them. They are truly unparallelled and their exquisite offerings can be found in some of the most glamorous residences on the planet!? They do not come cheap as everything is custom and made to order. But these are very very special pieces bound to offer a lifetime of beauty to any home. Below is a sampling of the work that they do, but bear in mind anything can be done in virtually any color, which makes this line both unique and special.

No prices will be on the site as everything is done based on a custom quote. I have ordered several times for custom orders from this company and can tell you that each and every time someone has received their purchase, they have been overjoyed with delight. Please feel free to take? a look and let me know what you think!? I have numbered each item for reference. The beauty here is you can say I want lantern 1 with the colors and scene of lantern 9, etc……Every piece is like a little treasure. Make sure you are sitting down, this is a post filled with many many images with potential to give heart palpitations to any tole lover…enjoy!

I had rented out a small space at a nearby warehouse which I am no longer leasing (got another small space) so I went to clean things out and found some things that frankly I didn’t know I had! They were stored all in boxes and there were many happy surprises:) Most of them are things that there are only one or two of….but all wonderful brand new,  beautiful item.

I as of this morning updated to tell you what is available and what is sold…

Instead of putting them up on my online shop, I am going to post them here since I have only 1 or 2 of each item,  along with their description and price, as you can also see I numbered them, for ease of emailing me. If you want something simply email me tell you want number x and I will direct invoice you. Any questions of course just ask! Obviously its first come first serve. Everything is discounted. Some things are less here than on my website because I got them at the old pricing and only have one or two here.  Email me here.  So ready to take a look? Here we go…..

Orchid fever and a blizzard have struck and a winner!

Good morning, well here in NY we got socked by a blizzard of epic proportions! We are covered in  white everywhere you look!  Guess be careful what you wish for….I was moaning and groaning about the lack of snow, well mother nature certainly delivered and showed me whose boss!  I had to share some pictures because we all know everything looks prettier in snow! We were supposed to leave for Boston today but clearly we are not going, bummer but better to be safe. Hope if the snow has impacted you, you are safe and staying inside!

This batch was taken as the storm was cranking up…..

And then this is what we woke up to this morning……..22 inches later!

Forgot to show you my new lantern for the front door…..from Arte de Mexico, love it!

Next order of business I have a winner for the beautiful blue and white flower pot!
Congrats goes to……

Wow so much to love~I loved the wallpaper or mural in that dining room (the chinoiserie one). And your breakfast table setting was amazing too Tina! You continue to inspire in such a dedicated way on this blog! Nice going!

This was my original post…..so it turned into a 2 for 1!

If you have been following me for a few weeks or  for an entire year, by now you  know I do  love my orchids. They bring elegance and grace to any space they enter. Then you add a beautiful planter and the effect is dazzling. Every few months I go on an orchid binge and buy a dozen or so. Truth is even though they are pricier than a lot of other flowers, they actually end up being one of the best flower bargains because they last so long. Most cut flowers or flower plants last 2-4 weeks.

On average my orchids last I would say about 3 months, sometimes even more. So its a great investment that requires little upkeep except for water and a good amount of sun and a lot of love. I adore  them in every room and my love for orchids is one reason why I buy so many planters! I don’t think you can ever have enough:) Any fellow orchid lovers out there? I buy them from a local florist but have also picked them up at the Home Depot greenhouse. And you know what, they are really nice looking, good quality plants.  So here is  a little recap of my orchid buying day…..

It all starts with an island (a messy one) filled with all my containers. I would do this outside if it wasn’t 10 degrees!

More containers and unloading the orchids……..

First pair ready to go to powder room…..

Love this planter..this is a new one in my online shop

Orchids and classic silver planters go together like blue and white:)

I know these are not orchids but I had to how you my gardenais in bloom!

I know these are not orchids but just moved my oversized blue and white jar with cherry blossoms to front foyer and kind of liking it!

Love orchids in silver…so classic!
Another one of my silver crested planters from my online shop
Love this tole crown planter filled with orchids…..

So what about you? Do you love orchids too and use them in your home?  What is your favorite way to plant/pot them? I just can’t get enough and when you consider how long they last…they actually are might I even suggest economical! Hope wherever you are, you are safe and warm. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Late week musings…..

Hi there! How has your week been? Mine, busy and very productive.  I still am trying to get used to writing down 2013! Anyone else with me here? No small talk, going to delve right into this weeks post. Lots to dish about, so let’s go. Call this my weekly newsletter.  Hope you have a splendid weekend…..

I have not showed much of the extensive landscaping/masonry work that is going on around here. For weeks on end, we have had a nonstop battalion of very talented workers completing much of the  masonry work on the patios/walkways/landscaping. It is still going on but the bulk is just about done. To say we are thrilled with how its turning out is a serious understatement. Now I cannot wait till spring! We have two small patios off of the kitchen/family room/breakfast room that are nearly done, here they are…..

So happy we were able to use the old planters from original home, we have 8 total so this was great

We are going to have a built in BBQ done later in the spring to the side…much more to come soon!

Can you imagine losing your blog one morning? This, for bloggers is the ultimate nightmare.  Twice this past week I read about long term bloggers signing into their account only to find out their entire blogs were wiped out. That’s right..no longer there! Disappeared. Gone. Can you imagine? This freaked me out in a big way. I cannot imagine something I pour so much hard work, love and devotion to leaving me without any notice. That is beyond a bad breakup.
So as I started prowling….it seems the thing to do and likely many of you seasoned bloggers know this is to regularly back up your blog. Did you know this? I found two really easy tutorials and have since done this. Great and priceless advice. Secondly it also really has me thinking maybe a switch to WordPress at some point in the near future is in order…any thoughts on that? Between other less significant problems with blogger and hearing this, I am feeling a bit nervous, hopefully undue stress on my part. So would love to know your thoughts on this matter! Click here if you want to learn how to back up your blog.

I visited my blogging friend, Sharons’ blog, one you all likely know, French Country Home (its like a mini vacation every time you click over there). Anyway one of her posts about having received small baking rounds totally intrigued me and prompted me  that very afternoon to visit Sur La Table, a phenomenal kitchen store (its highly addictive) and to buy my own little versions. I ended up with the cutest 4″ springform pans and came home and got busy. I started with mini Cherry cheesecake and ended with the most delicious potatoes au gratin! And it didn’t stop there…….

The next night we were having friends for drinks then heading to dinner. I was brainstorming about a last minute appetizer to serve, and immediately thought of my heavenly good pesto cheese dip which is normally baked in a Pyrex then spooned onto crostinis. This time I decided to try out my “new little friend’ and lets just say he did not disappoint. The finished product was a perfectly rounded mold of the pesto cheese dip and I garnished with a few tomatoes that had been broiled and served with the costini. Thanks Sharon for unleashing a springform beast in me! I can’t stop thinking of ways to make all of our foods small and round:) My boys think I am seriously possessed. Tonight? Its individual eggplant parmigiana!!! Tomorrow…who knows!

(Don’t love the quality of these pics, taken with iPhone at night but you get the idea)

The innocent little springforms that fueled a cooking marathon with no end in sight!

“The helper” was my wonderful mandolin….love this thing!

Perfectly thin potatoes every time in seconds…….

 My mini cherry cheesecakes…..soooo good!

The heavenly potatoes au gratin…….just so good and looked so pretty!

Roasted chicken asparagus and the mini potato, healthy and pretty!
Coming out of the oven, let them sit a few minutes

My experiment, the pesto dip going in the oven…fingers crossed!

Voila! It worked……added some extra grilled tomato on top.
Added warmed crostinis with a drizzle of olive oil and its instant elegance!

I don’t know about you  but I am already looking forward to spring. Unless we get a serious big dose of the white stuff, I have serious ADD during the winter. If we are going to have to deal with the cold…lets make it pretty. Bring on the snow. I normally do not shop for spring clothes this early but couldn’t  resist these pretty accents that are classic and practically seasonless. So I put together this little mood board of some great recent finds/loves. Best part….some of them, most of them,  are really reasonable. Well not the Prada bag but……most of it:)

One more thing I recently saw and immediately fell in love with, the new spring collection from Tory (yes we are on a first name basis:) LOOOVE these shoes. I want all three!! I cannot possibly narrow it down….they are all so great looking! The flats are a no brainer, as there is not heel height to have to mull over! But the wedges and heels are so darn cute too!

Finally tackling my dining room. Also planning on recovering my breakfast room chairs, I love my Pugsley fabric but its about 10 years old and quite faded so its time for a fresh change. The plaid chairs are temporary and I am excited to have finally made the time to select fabric for the chairs. I am also working simultaneously on the chinoiserie for the dining room and that has me incredibly excited. I will do a whole post on one of my favorite things, chinoiserie soon. . I want to keep it simple because I really want the chinoiserie to shine and not have much competition!  I am going to devote an entire post to the dining room next week, but here’s a sneak peek of the fabrics that have made it to the final round…….

And dining room contenders though its still in the early rounds…I am probably using two fabrics on the chairs

Its always fun to share the results from my Which would you Choose posts. So, I asked you out of 16 designers who you would hand your home to…and here are the top four. Several others vied for a close 5th place..what can I say, you have excellent taste!

1st place John Jacob

2nd place Phoebe Howard
3rd place Mcalpine, Ferrier and Booth
4th place Charles Faudree

I will share the results from this week’s coat edition next week.
I want to have a party with a blue and white theme (naturally) just so I can set a table that looks like this. This picture is enough to get my braincells working overtime just to think of an occasion to recreate this dream of a tablescape! Perfection…the green against the blue and white!

Store biz…so excited about adding this fabulous line of tole hand painted pieces to my online store. I am starting with a few pieces and will gradually add on. They are really special. LOVE them! All pieces will be added to “new arrivals” over the weekend. Feel free to contact me here with any questions.

Adore this black chinoiserie wastepaper basket, so classic!

And looooove these blk. chinoiserie brackets!

Also have this in a cream version which is also stunning!

How about this for a library/office or family room? Yes!

And you know I love this lamp. Already ordered one for my own office:)

In addition to my beautiful French tea//bar towels, that are made in France, just got in greatest looking aprons. I LOVE these. They are so great looking, they are pretty enough to wear  even once your guests have arrived!! Just got added under new additions.

A few new silver items that are new additions to my very popular silver collection…..

 Stunning silver cake plate…14.5″ round
Beautiful scalloped decorative flower bowl/planter

Large decorative ornate tray 28.5″ long by 14.5″ wide…..stunning for serving or display

Wine cooler (holds 4-5 bottles) 14″ round by about 9.5″ tall

And by popular demand I have just added this gorgeous crystal handcut etched dome cake plate/cloche. Talk about adding some serious beauty to your kitchen! And what a gorgeous gift too! Only getting in 6 pieces. Click here to see.

I own this and its a definite jewel in my kitchen.

Some other great things coming this way soon. Just to let you know, I am phasing out of the canvas art. I have about 5-6 pieces left. Unfortunately the vendor is not reliable and the containers often take much longer than initially promised, its too unpredictable, so when these are gone, I will no longer carry the canvas art.

Also my monogrammed linens are going up about 20%, they will still be a bargain even with the price increase. Prices will be going up early next week. As always if you have any questions about any of my products, just email me here!

So that is about it over here in my tiny corner of the world. As always, thanks for stopping by and seeing whats new. Whats going on over there? Any exciting plans for the weekend ahead? Hope whatever you do is wonderful and relaxing…until Monday!
