California dreamin’…..

Hi there. First things first, the two lucky winners of the Christmas Magic Contest. There is one winner from each round. Congratulations goes to……….

1ST PLACE.? From round 1, congratulations goes to this wonderful picture submitted by Susan……

Honorable mention goes to this amazing picture which was just a few votes behind……..

FIRST PLACE. From round 2 congratulations goes to Lauren who submitted this wonderful picture….

And an honorable mention goes to this special shot….

Please contact me at theenchantedhome@gmail.com to claim your prize. Thanks to all who sent in their pictures and to all the readers who participated in the voting. I will announce a new contest in the next few days…and it’s going to be a fun one!

?As most of you know I was away on vacation (much needed) in gorgeous sunny California. We,? as in my family,? like to start things and end things with a bang. We got there only for my husband to arrive sick, first cold, then bad headcold then he felt like the flu was brewing, so we were at the doctors New Years Eve….thankfully antibiotics acted quickly and by day 4 he was doing much better. To his credit, he was a trooper except that our New Years eve plans did not materialize. We first were in gorgeous, tony Laguna Beach. To say its heavenly is an understatement which is why we go back. And back again. I am not even going to get into my MAJOR airline drama with Jetblue and the nightmarish experience getting back. If it were up to them I would just be flying back tonight, to be continued……

We then went to the not so shabby Beverly Hills. Now personally for me, having been a few times and not having any daughters to shop with:)…..I would have been happy to have planted myself poolside in Laguna but my son and friend wanted to check “the scene” and did they ever! They spotted a few celebs, got to waltz down Rodeo Drive like regulars on a daily basis and we all enjoyed dining at some really fabulous restaurants, I mean REALLY good!!? The weather you ask…..PICTURE PERFECT. Seriously could not have been more incredible. High 70s, zero humidity, sunny skies every single day…magnificent!! God was looking out for us:)

So as I tend to do…I am sharing a ton of pictures, I am talking TONS. VERY picture heavy, not much narration and yes there are many “of the same thing” (come on, you have come to expect that of me by now, right)? but trust me if you were there you too would have been intoxicated by the view, it was just that incredible!! I even included my lists of “loves” for anyone contemplating a trip to the area anytime soon. There are SO many pictures here, I can almost guarantee you will feel like too have traveled to California by the time you are done with this post….. Enjoy!

So first here are some Laguna highlights…….

?The view from breakfast I had to “endure” every morning….

Lobby of the Ritz Carlton in Laguna
?Lobby, many more pics to come!
?Just cannot get enough of the views…sensational!

?At all hours of the day and night..especially gorgeous at sunset/dusk!

?Loved watching the surfers

?And lone sailboats

?A room with a view…..

?The surfboards were on display throughout the hotel….a great reminder of the enviable California lifestyle!

And small reminders of Christmas were abound….

?The lower lobby….

?As soon as it warmed up around 10 this is where you would find me, in an utter trance over the view!

?We enjoyed afternoon coffee in this cozy seating area with those dramatic views!
Starting my walk……

Did this walk everyday, there was a wonderful walkway that went for many miles along the beach!

?Had fun stopping to watch the surfers do their thing…..
?Main lobby, gorgeous and so elegant!
?The views from the restaurant perched high on the cliff are simply out of this world!
?This was a fully edible Christmas display…it was incredible!

?A wedding getting set up…what a setting!

Those California sunsets never ever get old!

?The flower displays in the lobby of the Ritz were so beautifully and artistically done

?View from the oceanfront restaurant at the Ritz at dusk……

?More lobby pics…..

Fell in love with these beautiful mantles in the hotel!
?The wine bar/restaurant….

?Those velvet chairs in front of the fireplace were where I planted myself with my iPad every morning at 6am…one of my favorite times of the day before the world wakes up!

The walkway……
?The wedding getting set up……on a picture perfect day!

?Our view from another restaurant in town….talk about being spoiled!

?Another bride…..can’t blame them for wanting to get married in Laguna!

Yes, obviously by now after seeing 50 pictures with this water view…you know I was a bit obsessed!

?This was one of my favorite activities…doing nothing but sipping my coffee in the afternoon and gazing at the view…..

?The Ritz is perched high on a cliff overlooking the Pacific…the setting is truly priceless!

?As is the beach!

?I always pay attention to flooring….call it an obsession, loved this!
?I am quite proud of these two artistic pictures….he was so cooperative!!
Think he enjoyed his little “photo sesh”
That small gazebo is where yoga is held every morning….

This has to be my favorite “view” shot……incredible!

This is a private dining room in the hotel where you can host small intimate dinners….

One of two pools….
That view just never gets old!

Moving onto Beverly Hills at The Montage….
Part of the beautiful luxurious room….
This cute birkin bag sign on the nightstand caught my eye……it was offering personal shopping services

?Part of our room at The Montage in Beverly Hills

?Gorgeous flower displays in stone urns in the lobby..gave me some ideas:) I also loved the soft candlelight

I love that Peets coffee is the coffee of choice everywhere and it was offered in the lobby every morning!

This is an area where you could get a light breakfast or have drinks in the afternoon..this was my “hangout” when I get up early, loved the quiet and peace, it was me, my cup of Peets and my iPad!

Strolling through Beverly Hills…..

This statue caught my attention, thought for a few minutes that they were real until I started thinking about how much his knees would hurt when he stood up after being crouched down that long (showing my age)!

Beautiful windowboxes!

The very elaborate feast displays in the windows of Versace
Beautiful perfect palm trees line the famous Rodeo Drive
The courtyard of our hotel…..

?The outdoor loggia area where we sat every morning with our coffee and croissants from Bouchon Bakery (it was a little too close and a little too convenient:)

?The courtyard area

?You know I am a sucker for topiaries!!

Flipped out over this luscious lemon trees…I want one!!!!!!!

Rodeo Drive was alive with Christmas spirit and plenty of power shoppers!

?Beautiful flooring in the lobby of our hotel….LOVED this!
?Evidence of my daily indulgence……
?Remnants of it’s demise, sinfully good and worth every decadent bite!
In Santa Monica, went to very very poplar Gjelina, just loved the industrial cool vibe of the place and the food…out of this world!
One of the best pizzas and salads we have EVER had!

?Koi…food was OUTSTANDING!!!

The famous Fred Segal……..love the ivy!!!!
Was soooo excited when I saw the storefront of Charm Cakes on Melrose (have watched their amazing creations many times on the food network)!

Their cakes are a true work of art…..
The fun cool scene at La Pain for breakfast……

AMAZING oatmeal! And their fresh baguettes out of the oven with butter and apricot jam was heavenly!

Le Pain,? on the corner of Melrose

OK fell in LOVE with this store, Dennis and Leen only it wasn’t opened!! So I took pics through the windows with my trusty iPhone! So my style..and so elegant!

Every inch of their space was so incredibly and tastefully done!

Now here we are back at Laguna……morning yoga happens every morning in that gorgeous oceanfront structure! Thanks to TWO canceled flights with Jetblue which meant three extra nights here…..although hardly roughing it!

?I might be willing to move for this house on the ocean and golf course:)

Arriving to San Diego last stop en route to airport at long last (spent the day there)…toured the city, went to the gaslight district and had fun walking around, grabbing a coffee and taking in the lively scene!

You can’t visit San Diego without a stop to the USS Midway..it would feel sacrilegious plus there is a virtual “shrine” for Bob Hope..love that guy!

Ok that’s it….I promise!! Do you feel like you have been on vacation with me?

A few highlights I really recommend-

Laguna Beach– Ritz Carlton is fabulous as is the gorgeous Montage, both have superior service and views that cannot be beat! We have been to both and they are both winners in my book! (but the setting at the Ritz is truly unmatched)

Just walking around beautiful Laguna makes you want to diet and get into the best shape of your life. Everyone is so fit and healthy and the lifestyle is really conducive to looking and feeling your best. We did a lot of walking.

Beverly Hills– The Montage was amazing with incredible service and special very luxurious touches. Scarpetta is in the hotel and is fabulous. Ditto Bouchon Bakery?
And last Angelini Osteria another excellent choice!
Walking down Rodeo drive BEFORE all the tourists come out and pack the sidewalks is so enjoyable, we grabbed our coffee and enjoyed the relatively empty streets window shopping
Melrose, went to Le Pain Quotidien for breakfast, its organic/healthy (as is nearly everything in California) but REALLY good! I was so excited to learn they are also in Greenwich and Rye not so far away!!
Santa Monica/Venice Beach– Son and friend did the Segway tour and had such fun. Ate at Gjelina on funky and fun to to walk down Abott Kinney, the food was AMAZING, two of the best salad and pizzas we have ever eaten without an exaggeration. They open at 11:30 with a line of people ready to eat! Also love the industrial vibe…you just feel cooler eating there LOL!

Those are just a few of my personal highlights. What can I say, California is one amazing place and I am reminded of it as I bundle up every morning? in my heavy down coat, scarf, boots and gloves…yep reminded every single morning that California dreamin’ is mighty sweet!

Thanks for stopping in and checking in, wishing you a wonderful day and end to your week!

My weekend as seen through my iPhone

Hi there…hope your Sunday is going well and off to a good and relaxing start. We have had a really nice weekend, a Friday night football game (and they won which made it even more exciting) dinner out with friends, a visit from a friend in from out of town…and today we are still making up our minds, might do nothing at all which often makes Sundays so wonderful!

So here is a look at happenings in my life through my iPhone as I sometimes do….got the iPhone 5 which has a much better camera so the pictures to me are far better than with the 4, anyway here we go…….

Last weekend we were in Boston, it was such fun despite the somewhat gloomy and very humid weather. I have to say Boston is one city I could easily move to without hesitation…amazing restaurants, an intellectual city,? beautiful and well maintained, and though its a big city it still feels self contained, here are? few snippets from the weekend…..

?A cool restaurant called Empire….the decor was stunning!

?Another one called Island Creek

And we had brunch here, Eastern Standard which we have been to many times, love the French Bistro vibe

?Then a late night cigar bar…..not really my thing but have to say it was fun and quite an experience!

Back at friends house, loved her mudroom and did as any good blogger would do, snap away….

Pretty new marble bath they just finished…

I like this lighting they used for their bookshelves in his study..its this tiny rope lighting, so pretty!

?And the hardware in her Kitchen was pretty too….as a blogger always looking for something interesting:)

And speaking of interesting! They are in contract to buy this house, it is a real project but one thing that is amazing is indoor pool complex, no you are not looking at your local swim club but an indoor pool that is part of the house, it was quite incredible!

?Can you just see all the parties they could have in here!

?The grounds are beautiful with lots of stone walls….

? The sunflowers I brought her, which looked pretty in her beautiful kitchen

Meanwhile back at home……How gorgeous is this chinoiserise fireplace? I would so love to make this work for my dining room but its too small…..trying to figure out a way! Love it! It was taken out of an old mansion in the area…

Around the house we had no sconces up in the front foyer because I was holding out for the perfect antique sconces, the thing is if you want them you need to look for them, something I was not doing so I had two extras from the living/dining room and had my electrician put them up “temporarily” which really means that after 24 hours we like enough to make them permanent, they look great and I didn’t realize how badly they needed to be there until they were installed!

?And with bulbs…..let there be light!

Out on the patio, waiting for a batch of navy and ivory pillows to come in to finish out there and a few more garden stools and finally ordered two planters (we need many more) but starting with two and hopefully they will look as good as I am hoping! It was the most spectacular afternoon…….

This last week it has been handbag central! I am so in love with these bags..every time I am packing one up I want to keep it (which means I want one in every color)….here are a few below. I sold out of both batches but am getting a third in and there are a few pieces left for sale, to see all colors click on this post and email me here if you are interested. They are made of the most scrumptious leather, fit right over your shoulder, hold everything including an ipad and to me it’s just the ultimate chic everyday tote..yes I am excited about them:)? They will up on the online shop by next week……

Finally I have to say though I was late to the starting gate…I am having a lot of fun with Pinterest and I love Sundays when I have more time to pin away to my hearts content. One day, just one day, I want my entire family to go do their own thing and I want to go to the market and buy a carload of ingredients and come home and make as many things as I can from my Food fun board on Pinterest. I am astounded at the inspiration, creativity and variety that is out there..it is almost overwhelming! Heres a look at some recent food fun pins, click here if you care to see more (warning do not visit on an empty stomach)…..

And finally for all you football fans and men out there, of course I thought of you too, this ones for you….

So that’s whats happening over here! How about you? What’s new and exciting in your world?? An absolutely beautiful weather weekend…..hope you are enjoying yours too. Thanks for stopping in and Happy Sunday!

Which would you choose?

Hi dear readers…hope you had an enjoyable weekend!? Ours was fun, a perfect blend of some much needed down time, dinner and drinks with friends, a fun party last night and a beautiful dinner out. Hard to believe we are gearing up for July 4th! It suddenly feels like summer is flying by awfully fast….I always feel that way when July 4th rolls around. Any special plans?

When I think of summer, I cannot help but think of summer travel. We have taken a few road trips and have a few other trips in the works. Whether by car, air or boat…summer is a wonderful (and popular) time to travel. I know several friends and family who are away now and it got me thinking about some of the travel destinations on my own bucket list.

?Lets just pretend the travel fairy has paid you a visit, she tells you to pack your bags because you are leaving tomorrow on an all expenses paid vacation for 10 glorious days! And to make it extra enticing…I am even throwing in a dream wardrobe that would be perfect for wherever you are headed, adding perfect weather the entire time and plenty of spending money! Sound good? I thought you might agree. So tell me….where oh where would you go? Here we go with the choices, its going to be one tough decision……

CHOICE 1? Beachin it in Hawaii

CHOICE 2 Ranch vacation in Rock Creek

CHOICE 3 Lobster fest in Maine….

CHOICE 4? Beautiful Napa….

CHOICE 5? Paris with panache……
CHOICE 6 The beautiful Greek Islands….
CHOICE 7 Exotic China……
CHOICE 8 Rolling hills of Tuscany…
CHOICE 9? Fabulous Fiji….
CHOICE 10 Alaska style…

CHOICE 11 Decadent Dubai……
CHOICE 12 Marvelous? Martha ‘s Vineyard…
CHOICE 12 Down under in Australia……
CHOICE 13 Escape to England……

CHOICE 14 Bask in Bermuda……
CHOICE 15? Reveling in Rio….
CHOICE 16 Sunning it up in St. Barths….

OK admittedly this is a very very hard decision. Many of these I have not been to but am longing to visit. I will as I always do leave the first comment but not without careful consideration! I cannot wait to hear what you choose and if by chance any of these (or any other trip for that matter) is on your agenda….do tell! Until tomorrow…….

I cannot wait to hear what you choose and if by chance any of these (or any other trip for that matter) is on your agenda….do tell! Until tomorrow…….

By Invitation only……what do I want to do, reality or fantasy?

Hi there, its our monthly By Invitation only post and this one is a good one. BIO is a group of bloggers who get together and post about an agreed upon theme for that month. Its great fun to see each others interpretations.??

?

?

The idea this month is to talk about something(s) we want to do reality or fantasy, something on our personal “bucket list”. I have had so many, some have fallen off the bandwagon like make the cover of Seventeen magazine of course sporting bright blue eyeshadow(back when I was a teenager) to wanting to marry David Bowie (still love his music but Iman I am going to let you keep him) to wanting to adopt a chimpanzee instead of having kids (I will take my three boys over) “Charlie”, yes I had already named him to going to medical school (too grueling and I still get faint at the sight of blood….a definite no no in the world of medicine)? But there’s a whole list of a “grown up” variety that I have now and with luck at least some of these will happen! SO ready to see what they are? Lets go, and in no particular order they are…….(you know theres no way there is just one)!

?

?

?

1. Visit Nepal/The Himalayas. Now 10 yeas ago I would have said to make it base camp 2 on an Everest expedition. Anyone who knows me well knows I had an absolute obsession with all things Everest. Think I had read every book.seen every movie on the subject. Even called a few expedition companies to find out just how it all goes down (you prepare for such a quest about? year in advance in case you are wondering) But in the end between my claustrophobia, fear of heights, absolute inability to give up cheese, fresh pasta and cappuccino, innate desire for luxury and warmth and hating bad hair days..this is not to happen in this lifetime. However my fascination with the region, its people and culture continues and I would love to visit this beautiful sacred land……..and watch the expeditioners from afar (from the comfort of my hotel room…hehe)

?

?

2. Attend midnight mass at The Vatican on Christmas eve. This has been on my mind for a while now, hubby are you listening? I have it all planned out, we are there for the Christmas holidays sleep in late that day so we will be bright eyed to make midnight mass that night. We, along with thousands of fellow Romans head out for a wonderful late Italian feast/dinner then proceed to walk to the church. As we are on our way…..it starts snowing, a beautiful light magical snowfall. The song Ava Maria can be heard faintly in the distance(this part is key to my dream)……..ahhhhh, can you visualize?

?

?

?

3. To write a screenplay, again anyone who knows me well knows this about me. I have had several ideas for a great screenplay that would translate well to the Broadway stage. One play in particular that I am not letting go of and go back to every now and then….you heard it here first:) What a thrill it would be for someone to read it, love it and get excited about it and then want to produce it. It would be satisfying to at least finish it…..Can you imagine!!

?

?

4. Visit Fiji, I have always visualized that this is as close to heaven as you can get. I mean look at that water, look at that remote tiny island.? I can so easily visualize hanging on a hammock all day, tropical drink on hand, plenty of reading material with not a care in the world. I think this might be the ultimate place to go and just “veg out” and leave the world (and worries) behind. Anyone I know who has been says its really as beautiful as it is in the pictures……just wish it wasn’t so darn far!!

?

?

5.To rent a house in Tuscany or Provence for a month during the summer, this is something I know I will do, I am determined. Better yet, maybe two weeks in Provence then 2 in Tuscany…that way I can come back here to my blog and tell you about both places! I would love to rent a lovely villa for an extended period of time, have a bicycle at my disposal, ideally said house would come with a garden (a healthy thriving fruit and vege bearing garden) where I could pick fruits and veges on a daily basis and plan our meals around the days pickings. I see myself pedaling into town, saying buongiorno or bon jour to the local townspeople, grabbing bread from the local bakery, visiting local wineries and educating myself about wine….all in the name of “blog research” of course:) Afternoons will be spent in my hammock reading the 30 books I have had on my reading list for the last year!

?

?

6. To own my own farm. I have spoken of this often. I really would love to buy a farm one day before I am too old to really enjoy it, restore the farmhouse, have a small vineyard, a massive garden, let my husband fulfill his inner cowboy and ride and lasso to his hearts content while I garden, blog of course, and eventually open up my own little restaurant right on the farms property. This would be the perfect time to put the finishing touches on my screenplay too!? Visitors from near and far are welcome! To be continued……..

?

?

?

7. Spend a month driving across country. I have been to a lot of places. But there are still so many I want to visit and revisit. This particular trip would send me all directions. South I would want to visit some of the great southern cities, places like Charleston, Savannah, horse country in VA, Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, Austin, Dallas and Houston…..then I really want to drive and experience the great vast lands of Montana, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming..I want to feel like I am in The Horse Whisperer and if you want to throw in a horse whisperer like Robert Redford, I won’t complain!! I want to explore the rugged coast of Seattle and head to wine country in California and drive the entire Pacific Coast Highway…..want to head to the windy city of Chicago and eat deep dish pizza and see if it’s really “all that”? and end things with a bang in the northeast, visiting Nantucket, Martha s Vineyard, exploring Maine and New Hampshire and? ending this month long trip with a giant lobster dinner in a quaint Maine coastal town!! I have been to a lot of these places but my husband hasn’t really gotten to visit the south and only a few places on the west coast…so think this is a trip we have to make happen. And some trips you cannot fully enjoy unless you drive them.?

?

8. Open up a darling chic super cool cafe/bookstore/coffeehouse/shop. Yes it would be a lot of things to a lot of people. This is a place where cool sophisticated people in the know want to come, whether to have a light lunch or? a casual dinner with a? friend, pick up their morning coffee and a French or Italian newspaper (yes I will carry them in all languages), browse the books or select a beautiful item for their home or as a gift. It can all be done under one charming roof! I would have authors come in for readings and signings, local jazz bands come on jazz nights to perform, baronistas join us to give talks on coffees around the world and oenophiles would do sold out wine workshops. Sound like fun? I think so! In terms of look……Think the bakery from Its Complicated mixed in with a little of the Meg Ryans’s books store in When Harry met Sally with a smidgeon of the great shop in Somethings gotta give (was the former Barefoot Contessa shop owned by our friend “Ina”). I would have black and white marble floors (honed and old looking) neat lighting, lots of antique mirrors, french music playing…..Get the picture? A lot of work….yes. Super cool to own it……even a bigger yes!

?

?There!! If I can even do half of these things I will be a happy girl. Nothing that is so extreme that its out of the question, right? Anything on my list something you too want to do? So lets see if all goes according to plan……. Nepal, Rome, Fiji, Provence and Tuscany will all be stamped on my passport while I will return home to my farmhouse to? put the finishing touches on my screenplay and get ready to open up my cafe/shop. Sounds like a good plan to me!? Your turn…whats on your list either reality or fantasy to do in your lifetime? As always, many many thanks for stopping to say hello and see what’s happening over here….wishing you a wonderful day!
