Yearning for urns part 2 and new goodies!

Hi there, the weather was sooo spectacular today. It was in the mid 60’s and felt positively balmy! It was such a treat to be able to walk outside with just a sweater and hard to believe a week ago we had SNOW! Teddy was thrilled and did a little sunbathing:) Enjoying a relaxing weekend and happy to have the downtime!

I get so excited when I get new things in, I am truly like a little kid in a candy shop… and I got some gorgeous new pieces from my very popular and very affordable statuary line. Normally these are made to order and take on average 4 weeks however in anticipation of the holidays I ordered multiples of these new styles, as they are on the small to medium side size wise so are multi functional inside and out and are just so beautiful.

For those of you who do not know of my online statuary and planter line, as hard as it is to believe these are fiberglass NOT heavy antique statuary. They are molded after beautiful classic old world designs but can be picked up with one hand! The best of both worlds…..then you add the special antiquing that has been applied and these are just nothing short of spectacular! Many take these with them when they go to their local nursery to play around with various plants and flowers….how convenient is that? You sure can’t do that with stone!

My mind is racing with all the possibilities and ways to use these, especially over the coming holidays! Take a look…….

?Pair 1- practical and could be used or sooo many things. I see orchids or a beautiful pointsetta, or a pile of pine cones and evergreen, how about as a wine cooler filled with ice! 12″ x 12″ x 10″ $ 85.00

?PAIR 2- This one is so elegant, I could see a small boxwood or boxwood ball, a large pointsetta or holiday plant 12.5″ x 12.5″ x 12.5″ $85.00

?Pair 3- A great one for orchids or a boxwood ball, also great size for a bottle of champagne! 10″ x 10″ x 10″ $64.00

?Pair 4 – Pretty with nothing but would be perfect (since it is shallow) for evergreens and pinecones or an orchid and I would also try this as a crudite display? as I was recently inspired to do…this would be perfect. Also great for soaps in a powder room!? 8″ x 14″ x 9″ $75.00

Pair 5- Love the square shape and regal old world design. This one is screaming for a huge pointsetta for the holidays or a large orchid arrangement. In the summer I would put a large hydrangea plant in it…beautiful!? 15″ x 15″ x 11″ $110.00

?Mr. Teddy sunbathing……and of course watching over yours truly to be sure I don’t slack!
Now lets take a look at all of the amazing ways to use urns…the possibilities are endless! Have any ideas of your own?? Some of these are my own, some are my customers pictures of what they have done with the urns they bought from me and the rest are online inspiration…..

And how I have already started fiddling around with my new urns…..

?Perfect for my little white pumpkins that are still going strong

?Boxwood balls look beautiful in this style planter and literally look good anywhere!

?Love the boxwood topiary in this one…so regal!

?Love the idea of them as a soap dish!

?My powder room

?Don’t think I have gone mad….. I happened to have these trees in? my garage and the pine cones so quickly threw them in the planter to see how they would look, can see a pair flanking the fireplace in my family room…..

?Wow who knew there were so many spectacular ways to use urns!! OK if you want to get your hands on one of these beautiful planters, just refer to the item pair number and email me. They are in stock (4-6 pieces of each) so limited availability. Last day to custom order from this line to ensure delivery for Christmas is Nov.20th which is just in a few days! Thanks for stopping in and enjoy your weekend!

Fall in the Hamptons and taking a little bit home…….

Hello and happy Monday to you! And how was your weekend? Ours was fun, and quite relaxing. Dinner with friends, got to see the movie, Rush…which I have to say was quite good, that it was a true story made it even better.I am disappointed I listened to the weather “experts” and didn’t go to Vermont as planned, as it turned out so beautiful….bummer!

?We have been having such beautiful weather lately…its slowly starting to get a little cooler every day and the foliage is just now starting to turn every so slightly. I am so loving my favorite time of year and seeing the tiny little glimpses of what is to come, nothing to me can beat the month of October.? I was out in the Hamptons recently and it was such fun being out there in the “off season”……of course I took my camera with me and thought it would be fun to share some of what I saw and enjoyed while out there, as well as a few “souvenirs”? that came home with me. I had fun adding small festive fall touches around the house and finished my outside urns too. So here we go…..

?I think you are never too old to enjoy and marvel at a real life pumpkin patch….what do you think?

?One of my favorite nurseries out east, I never visit without a stop here!

A beautiful vignette so alive with rich color…..love the way the white pumpkins set it off!

?Thought this setup was so pretty and festive, love the white pumpkins, one came with me to join my pumpkin family:)

?This beauty came home with me…the biggest chrysanthemum plant I have ever seen, it measures 36″ across!!!!!!!

And bought more baby cabbages….love these, they are so decorative!

?Fresh orchid delivery at my favorite nursery

?This enormous pumpkin was bought at auction and weighs over 450 lbs!!!

?Freshly delivered pumpkins waiting to be displayed….

At every turn, there was something worth taking a picture of at one of my other favorite farm stands…

Pumpkins of every color and size…..

And the fresh veges were still in abundance……

Then onto a pumpkin farm……

?This monster of a pumpkin weighed in at about 180 lbs!

?This is typical for how my car looks when I am finally heading home, it is chock full with not a single inch to spare!

So back at home……

? I filled my large dough bowl with a bunch of falls gifts and put it on my kitchen island…….

?White pumpkins can be placed just about anywhere and look fabulous!

?This orchid is on its way out (lasted a good 5 months) and have a beautiful new one to replace it with…on my agenda today!

?And even tiny little touches in a powder room….

And put the finishing touches on my outdoor urns….understated but elegant

?You cannot fully appreciate just how huge this chrysanthemum ? is but its a whopping 37″ inches across! See it doesn’t take much to excite me:)

?Put by the front side door in a large planter
By the way…confession, some of those pumpkins on my doorstep are not real. I mix in the old with the new, when mixed in you really cannot tell and I love being able to reuse them every year! Thanks for stopping in and wishing you a wonderful day and start to your week!
Calling all blue and white lovers…..
Don’t forget now accepting pictures for my new contest “blue and white love” as the name implies…..just send me anything that has blue and white! I cannot wait to see what you send, I know its going to be great! Send all pictures to- theenchantedhome@gmail.com

A winner of fall fabulous, a new contest and an award!

Good Sunday morning to you! Hope you are having a nice weekend…the weather turned out spectacular here which kind of disappointed me because i had plans to go to Vermont and originally they were calling for Sat. to be a bit of a washout…boy they were wrong,? it turned out to be an incredible weather day. Only upside is I was able to catch my sons game! So all was not lost, may head up there next week really want to catch the tail end of the magnificent one and only fall foliage, to me it just doesn’t any prettier than fall in New England.

So first thanks a million to all of those who participated in my “Fall fabulous contest”. It was overwhelming to get so many incredible images!! I truly wish I had a prize for everyone. As most of you know, I had difficulty with note one but two of the polls, both which had to be removed and therefore the votes canceled. Then I resorted to the old fashioned way by having everyone leave a comment with their choices. It was a pain, yes I know (for both of us) but it made things as fair as they can be. Promise by next contest to hopefully have an accurate glitch free poll up and running!

Without further ado, here is the unmistakable winner with over 70 votes, congratulations to……

Cannell Dillard, this is picture perfect indeed and really does say “fall fabulous”! Congratulations on a spectacular shot!
A close second with over 50 votes was this glorious shot….
And a few honorable mentions in order of votes….

Please contact me with your information to claim your prize. I am offering either the gorgeous wood and pewter nut bowl or a monogrammed carving board bearing your name! Email me at theenchantedhome@gmail.com

My contest theme for November is not surprisingly “Blue and white love“. Max. 2 pictures per entrant, please in subject line of email put “Blue and white love”. I will collect pictures up until Nov. 1st . The contest will run on Nov. 4th for 2 days. Thanks in advance and I cannot wait to start receiving your pictures…I? know they will be fabulous! Email me your pictures to theenchantedhome@gmail.com.

Finally I had posted this wonderful Sunshine award post bestowed upon me by the wonderful Kate from Preppy Empty Nester but unfortunately had to remove it the same day to repost the fall contest (crazy few days) so here it is again…….

I was so delighted to receive the Sunshine award last week, so much so that I treated myself to a pasta lunch with a little dessert to celebrate of course!!!!? What made it even sweeter was that it was bestowed upon me by power blogger, glamour woman, queen of funny….yes I am talking about the infamous Kate of Preppy Empty Nester, the one and only. The idea behind it is to answer the 10 questions? she asked of me and pass it along to ten other bloggers with my own set of 10 questions. It took some time and thinking to get this done but it was a fun exercise and I am happy to present my portion of this award as well as? my list of questions I am passing along…

Hope you will participate (at your leisure) and pass it along, its fun and a creative way to get to know more about other bloggers……

So here is what Kate asked me-

1. ?You ladies are all creative and talented.? What was the biggest blooper that you made while decorating?

?Way back when I was a newlywed, I had decided, because I had a “revelation” that we just had to have our master bedroom (all 25 sq feet of it, living in NYC)? painted “blush” (relative word). However my little swatch of “delicate pink” proved to explode when on the walls. I left in the morning handing the paint can to the painter as I trotted off to work all smug about my design finesse at 21, and came home literally walking into a bottle of Pepto Bismol. The pink was so incredibly strong that it almost made me faint from the “pinkness”. Needless to say my painter was back the next day, painting the walls a boring white:) I was humbled right back to being a 21 one newbie.

2. ?Which child is your favorite?
KIDDING!!!!!! ?Just wanted to make sure you were paying attention.

Funny! However on pondering this question…..on some days the scary thing is I might actually be able to answer this question….lol

2. ?What is your favorite movie and song of all time??

Honestly I do not have one, are you kidding? One???? Sorry! But a few- yes,? I can manage that…..The English Patient, Sense and Sensability, It’s Complicated, Horse Whisperer, Sabrina and Roman Holiday, Atonement, The Devil wears Prada, Somethings Gotta Give, Anna Karenia, Doctor Zvhivago, geez…I could go on.

Songs- When I need a good cry “Everybody hurts” by R.E.M or “Hurt” by Christina Aguilera, both hauntingly beautiful songs.? I love Ava Maria, enjoy my fair share of current pop music, most music by Coldplay, Midnight Sonata….love Bossa Nova, what can I say with my musical genius I love and embrace it all (sad thing is I am the only one who thinks I am a good singer)

3. ?If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be??

How about “An Enchanted life”??

4. ?What has been one of your most embarrassing moments??

?Wow I have a lot of those :)? One recent one was one morning frantically trying to get my son to school on time, I could not find my keys (I know you all can relate) so we decided to take my sons nifty little car. Yes as in one that is so high tech I have no idea how to turn it on and freak out when I think its stalling at lights by turning off when in fact its supposed to do that:)?

So we pull up to his school, (private conservative school that is) and he runs out to class and the car goes off with yours truly sitting behind the wheel. Somehow I press a button and the ignition shuts off. I have no idea how to get the car going and as I am trying hard to not look like too much of an idiot, the school headmaster walks by with a group of administrators and as they pass I hit the magic button and the car goes on but not without the preprogrammed music (rap music) my son has set to come on automatically when the car starts so loud I am certain those in the next county can hear it. So deafening, it obviously caused them to turn around and stare at little ‘ol me in this car with this music so loud and the saddest thing was I didn’t know how to turn it off, that was the worst part of all! So not only did I look like a 40 something year old loser having a serious identity crisis but I? was a surly “in your face” one too….by not turning it down. I was dying of embarrassment! Finally figured it out, slouched into? my seat and drove away with my tail between my legs:)?

5. ?What is your biggest regret? ?I don’t mind hearing juicy details. ?

Not having had a fourth child. I know, I know its crazy to some but since I am still in my 40’s I feel too young to become an empty nester next year (boo hoo) and would sooooo love to have a younger child right now.?

6. ?If you were awarded an all expenses paid vacation for two weeks where would you go? ?Don’t get any ideas… this is not tied into a give away. ?

Thanks Kate, your treat? Well…….I do want to go to Greece, Turkey and Tuscany. So how about all three….no worries I can manage to take off a little extra time to make it happen 🙂

7. ?How many homes have you lived in? ?Which one was your favorite??

I have lived in 1 apartment and 4 homes including this one. (have to say this one is my favorite) but I do have some really fabulous memories in each of my others of a time when my? kids were younger, and the house felt “fuller” (translates to louder and messier)? etc…….but it’s all good.

8. ?If you could sit next to any famous celebrity on a 5-hour flight, who would it be??

Well,? maybe Nancy Meyers because I just know after a 5 hour flight she would want me to become her partner in her next movie, no make that she would be begging me to become her partner, hey give her credit for recognizing sheer genius when she meets it. If I were a producer…seriously she is the one I would most like to be. I love her style, aesthetic and take on “feel good” movies….Somethings Gotta Give, Its complicated, The Parent trap, The holiday, need I go on?

9. ?What would your friends say are your 3 best qualities??

Kindness, generosity and humility. Of course I am most inspired to be all those things to my friends who make it so worth the effort (you? know I love you)!

10. ?Why do you blog??

Because I so enjoy the personal connections I make with so many that I would otherwise likely not meet. It is a creative outlet for me to express my love for design and its opened up so many wonderful doors. and I of course, have to admit, I also love the free loot.?

Blogging has become my happy place (I call it cheap therapy) . Even when I am having a rough day, the world seems right again when I enter blogland…..its filled with so many amazing like minded people. Its been wonderful and is a virtual classroom, cannot tell you how it has opened my eyes and taught me to much.

The biggest perk you ask? Of course we all know….meeting Kate. (you can send me the money via Paypal Kate) lol..

?Kate being coy………

Thank you Kate! Now it my turn to come up with 10 juicy questions and pass them along however instead of selecting 10 bloggers I am opening them up to any blogger that wants to participate (there are so many great ones), the more the merrier!! Here are my questions for you……..

1. If you had to move to another country for a year, where would you go? Why?

2.You are having a dinner party with a table of? famous people (past and present). Who will be lucky enough to sit on either side of you?

3. What are two things in this world that are “must do’s”on your bucket list?

4, What is one of your weaknesses and one strength? (comfort and junk food included)!

5. One of your most dreaded household chores?

6. Something most of us don’t know about you…..

7. Fill in the blank, I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing……….

8. Have you ever won a trophy? If so for what, do tell!

9. What is your best dish? (feel free to brag)!

10. Be honest…have you ever faked an accent?

I do hope whoever this appeals to will participate and let me know if you do! I love reading more about my favorite bloggers:) Thanks Kate!?

Thanks for stopping in, wishing you a wonderful and relaxing Sunday. Many thanks once again to all those who sent in their beautiful fall pictures! They were so enjoyed and I will no doubt go back to that post again and again to enjoy all the beauty and inspiration. I cannot wait to get in your blue and white pictures! Until tomorrow……

Songs- When I need a good cry “Everybody hurts” by R.E.M or “Hurt” by Christina Aguilera, both hauntingly beautiful songs.  I love Ava Maria, enjoy my fair share of current pop music, most music by Coldplay, Midnight Sonata….love Bossa Nova, what can I say with my musical genius I love and embrace it all (sad thing is I am the only one who thinks I am a good singer)

3.  If you wrote a memoir, what would the title be?

How about “An Enchanted life”?

4.  What has been one of your most embarrassing moments?

Wow I have a lot of those 🙂  One recent one was one morning frantically trying to get my son to school on time, I could not find my keys (I know you all can relate) so we decided to take my sons nifty little car. Yes as in one that is so high tech I have no idea how to turn it on and freak out when I think its stalling at lights by turning off when in fact its supposed to do that:)

So not only did I look like a 40 something year old loser having a serious identity crisis but I  was a surly “in your face” one too….by not turning it down. I was dying of embarrassment! Finally figured it out, slouched into  my seat and drove away with my tail between my legs:)

5.  What is your biggest regret?  I don’t mind hearing juicy details.

Not having had a fourth child. I know, I know its crazy to some but since I am still in my 40’s I feel too young to become an empty nester next year (boo hoo) and would sooooo love to have a younger child right now.

6.  If you were awarded an all expenses paid vacation for two weeks where would you go?  Don’t get any ideas… this is not tied into a give away.

Thanks Kate, your treat? Well…….I do want to go to Greece, Turkey and Tuscany. So how about all three….no worries I can manage to take off a little extra time to make it happen 🙂

7.  How many homes have you lived in?  Which one was your favorite?

I have lived in 1 apartment and 4 homes including this one. (have to say this one is my favorite) but I do have some really fabulous memories in each of my others of a time when my  kids were younger, and the house felt “fuller” (translates to louder and messier)  etc…….but it’s all good.

8.  If you could sit next to any famous celebrity on a 5-hour flight, who would it be?

Well,  maybe Nancy Meyers because I just know after a 5 hour flight she would want me to become her partner in her next movie, no make that she would be begging me to become her partner, hey give her credit for recognizing sheer genius when she meets it. If I were a producer…seriously she is the one I would most like to be. I love her style, aesthetic and take on “feel good” movies….Somethings Gotta Give, Its complicated, The Parent trap, The holiday, need I go on?

9.  What would your friends say are your 3 best qualities?

Kindness, generosity and humility. Of course I am most inspired to be all those things to my friends who make it so worth the effort (you  know I love you)!

10.  Why do you blog?

Because I so enjoy the personal connections I make with so many that I would otherwise likely not meet. It is a creative outlet for me to express my love for design and its opened up so many wonderful doors. and I of course, have to admit, I also love the free loot.

 Kate being coy………

Thank you Kate! Now it my turn to come up with 10 juicy questions and pass them along however instead of selecting 10 bloggers I am opening them up to any blogger that wants to participate (there are so many great ones), the more the merrier!! Here are my questions for you……..

1. If you had to move to another country for a year, where would you go? Why?

2.You are having a dinner party with a table of  famous people (past and present).

I love reading more about my favorite bloggers:) Thanks Kate!

Fall urns, new items for the shop and a hello!

Hi there! What a hectic chock full week I have had….been super duper busy and have not had the downtime I so crave (which means almost no time in blogland). So I am tickled pink about getting to stay home today and finally relaaaaax and just do whatever I please, and let me tell its not much. Ever have one of those weeks where every minute is accounted for? Well…that was my week. Busy making candy sushi for my sons annual fair with eight friends (2 days of work),? Went to a beautiful surprise birthday party at the Union League Club in NYC, dinner plans, all good stuff but I am exhausted! So happy its all over with:) Here is whats happening…..

Excited to have added some gorgeous new pillows which are now up in my online shop. There are pillows and there are pillows. A LOT of new pillows! I do really well with these pillows…and hear so often that good pillows are increasingly harder to find? Most people when they get these, email to tell me how beautiful they are and how much more luxurious they are up close and personal. They are exceptional!

?They are overstuffed with? wonderful down/feather pillows, are backed in a luxurious cotton velvet, trimmed in beautiful coordinating trims and done with the best quality hand needlepoint. Really classic and best part is there is really something for everyone. Whether you re in a cozy cabin, a sleek transitional apartment, a refined country home, a coastal abode…whatever style you claim as your own..there’s a pillow for it!!

Many of you loved the new line of capes/wraps I am going to be carrying. I already got orders for these beauties and they will be up on the shop under personal accessories by Tuesday. I always say I only carry what I truly love and would use in my own home/life. I discovered this line almost 10 years ago and treasure the pieces I have, so classic. So in the meantime,? I am going to be offering these at a special introductory price before they go online. So for the next two days I am offering the following deals-

These are made of the finest baby alpaca that exists. As soft as cashmere, they do not pill, and my wrap from them (9 years old)! looks brand new. This is the ultimate in chic dressing and honestly to me, something every woman should have in her wardrobe. These are perfect for when you don’t want to wear a heavy coat, look great with jeans as well as the dressiest dress. I guarantee you will LOVE these!

Crochet trimmed classic cape ( I own this one) I have charcoal, gray taupe and black $275.00

Same cape but reversible! Ivory/beige, light gray/dark gray and taupe/charcoal $345.00

Started working on my fall urns by my front door. I have had so little time that they are not yet done but I do love how they are coming out. I must say the statuary line I carry has been AMAZING, not only are they so? beautiful and look like aged statuary? but the fact that I can so easily pick these up with one hand and carry them around makes them extra amazing. I will be adding new styles in the next week. So here is a look at the work in progress…..hope to finish them up today or tomorrow!

?These babies are still going strong so I felt bad ripping them out, so replanted them in another planter to let them live out their last days…..

?All good things are worth a little mess……

?I love all the unusual variations in pumpkins today…..so pretty!

?Not done but this is it so far……..

So that is what I will be up today….finishing up the front door for fall, hopefully stealing a few hours to watch something good, I am feeling like an old favorite standby like It’s Complicated or Midnight in Paris or The Horse Whisperer, some movies just don’t get old, and maybe cook up something good, I am craving a home cooked meal:)

?Don’t forget today s the last day to put your name in the hat for the Phoebe Howard signed book giveaway! You dont’ want to miss the chance to enter….its one of my favorite design books. Click here to visit the post where you can get the lowdown.

Hope whatever you are up to today, is wonderful and relaxing….thanks for stopping in! Until tomorrow……
