Which would you choose?

Good evening from icy, snowy, messy New York.  Yesterday it was snow, today we are in the midst of a serious snow/ice storm. CRAZY weather, this is a winter surely to go down in the history books! I am so over winter, and praying for an early spring. Moving along…..

I cannot tell you how touched I was by all of the comments regarding my empty nester post yesterday and all the emails I received too…not only did you offer such  amazing and encouraging advice but honestly the kindness bestowed upon me brought tears to my eyes, thanks to you I am now feeling a wee bit more optimist about my soon to be empty nester status:) Whether you are an empty nester, soon to be one, or still have little ones at home…..reading over the comments is heartwarming and if you have an extra few minutes, I really encourage you to do so (click here). They would make a wonderful book! Thank you, I know I will refer back to it time and time again:)

So imagine this, the furniture fairy has paid you a visit…she is going to grant you with one wave of her wand a brand new fully done up living room! So imagine for a minute, one of these gets to be yours…which would it be? I set it up poll style…and since there are so many pretties, you can vote for two, so think hard:)

Which living room do you lust after?

Calling all blue and white lovers!!

Good morning! Hope your week is off to a good start. Over here, I have a list a mile long of things to get busy cracking on (mostly house related) so no rest for the weary…it’s already another busy week. When I start my morning with a healthy dose of blue and white, I just know its going to be a great day. Every now and then I have to post on blue and white, to give me my regular “fix” of this scrumptious combination. It just never gets old……..what can I say!!
I am also super excited to have added some truly exquisite new pieces (below) so this was a perfect post to tie it all in. Hopefully some of these images are new to you, while some I realize you have seen…….they are just too pretty to not include. The truly wonderful things about blue and white is that literally it goes with every single color. I dare you to find a color that it doesn’t work with. Impossible!! How about you, has blue and white-itis  struck you too? Happily there is no cure in sight. So lets take a look at blue and white at its very best………
Just some of my very favorite blue and white goodies!!

Canopies, Caronas and Crowns…..oh my!

Happy Wednesday to you! As I am starting to finally think seriously about my guest room and my own bedroom (at long last), one look I am continuously drawn is canopied beds and beds with crowns. Yes, it is very classic and traditional, having been done for centuries but now you also see it being done with a modern twist to give it a fresher cleaner feel. Its a beautiful way to use a favorite fabric or combination of fabrics and just feels so “cocoonlike”.
I remember the very first time I slept in a bed with a soaring crown was in a beautiful hotel room in Belgium about 15 years ago. I felt like a royal and must say I had an awfully great nights rest. So….am sure I want to do the same thing in  my own guest room and today’s post is a tribute to all the wonderful treatments that can be applied to a bed. What are your thoughts? Is it a like? A love? Would love to know! Here we go………feast your eyes on these beauties!

This beautiful bedroom has been an inspiration for my guest room, love the check fabric used inside, think it makes it less fussy and crisp feeling, Joy Tribaut
The colors here are my favorite, I like the idea of a very quiet print with solid colored muted bedding, so inviting! TH
Beautiful application, love how the fabric matches the wallpaper, also love the gathered carona,  Kendall Wilkinson
LOVE the scalloping detail on this vision in ivory, Phoebe Howard
Always adored this bedroom, so serene and inviting! Cathy Kincaid
Fun twist on a traditional room for a lucky young lady! Palmer Weiss
How pretty is the soft billowy fabric used as a canopy? So soothing and calming…..Howard
Thom Felicia’s bold take on a modern day canopy bed
Mary McDonald dreamt up this vision in white!
Wiliam Eubanks designed this fabulous master retreat using warm soothing tones…so elegant!
How sweet is the pink gingham? Love it! Shes so pretty
This sumptuous room by Mario Buatta just screams “come jump here” and bring your mags and books with you (and a indulgent little snack too:)
Love this serene oasis of a room, the scale of the room makes it feel majestic, Veranda
Always been a fan of this gorgeous dreamy room of canopied twin beds, Cathy Kincaid
Love pretty prints in rich warm tones for a canopy as Rinfret did in this elegant retreat
Love this monochromatic take on an elegant modern daybed….beautiful!
Of course everything Ralph Lauren touches turns to gold or at least into a bed fit for a princess!
Solis Bentancourt’s modern take on a pair of canopy beds, pretty!
And for a more masculine approach, canopy beds can still work…as shown here in Cottage and Gardens.
I really like Michael S. Smith’s take on a more transitional cleaner feel on a canopy bed, Elle Decor
Barry Dixon designed this fabulous retreat in brown, love the feeling!
And finally….who said canopy beds are just for humans?  Aristopaws
Too cute! Chinoiserie Chic
Had to throw in mans best friends, they like to live in great style too! So….whats your take? Do you love this look? Do you favor it more traditionally or like the more modern take? To me, its just beautiful any which way. As always, love to hear what you think. Wishing you a fabulous day!

56 reasons why I love blue and white jars!

Happy Monday! Never made it to Target…I figured it was going to be a madhouse and I try to stay away from shopping in general over the weekend, so just as well. The only two people I know that saw the Calypso Collection seemed a bit underwhelmed so doesn’t seemed like I missed much. Anyone else check it out? Moving along……who has a thing for blue and white china? Surely I know there are lots of you out there that like me, love the look of blue and white and what it does to a room. Just add a blue and white jar here, a plate or garden seat or vase there to a room ?and voila instant glamour, pizazz and sophistication are added! No doubt about it……they work just about anywhere, in any room of any color of any style.?

They are considered by most designers to be staples, items that never ever seem to go out of style. Classic, timeless, stylish. That’s how I sum up the use of blue and white pottery, and china. They come in the form of vases, jars, with tops, open faced, with lids and without, garden seats, big bowls, huge planters, plates I could go on, they can be found very inexpensively so you get a lot of look for the money. Today I salute the almighty blue and white jar, plate, bowl and such…..what do you think? Used alone as a single standout piece or grouped together as a collection…blue and white makes an impact on a room, there is no denying. So, I have put together what I think is a fairly impressive little collection?of beautiful spaces that make a pretty beautiful argument for blue and white! Would love to know! Do you have a secret or tip on how you like to use blue and white? Do tell!

There is perhaps no more gracious way to welcome guests to an entry hall than with blue and white, love it against the rich warm woods, Joseph Minton?
John Bossard used blue and white brilliantly in this stunning entrance hall..love it!
Kristin Fitzgibbons and Kelli Ford show there is never such a thing as too much blue and white!
Love lots of blue and white displayed in a pine hutch as shown here, Photo by John Umberger
Love the blue and white here against the dark contrast of the floors, Ashley Whittaker
How amazing is THIS? It took my breath away…. Lake Forest pool house, designed by Marshall Morgan Erb Design
Blue and white in an all white kitchen is a winning combination, Country Living
Who said blue and white china is only for indoors! Gorgeous setting……Peggy Sewell
Love how this blue and white collection is arranged atop this magnificent antique chest

Just add a blue and white jar here, a plate or garden seat or vase there to a room  and voila instant glamour, pizazz and sophistication are added! No doubt about it……they work just about anywhere, in any room of any color of any style.
So, I have put together what I think is a fairly impressive little collection of beautiful spaces that make a pretty beautiful argument for blue and white! Would love to know! Do you have a secret or tip on how you like to use blue and white? Do tell!
