Things I am loving- Buffalo checks

Hello….in getting back to the subject of design, one thing I have always loved is buffalo checks. They to me, are the perfect blend of casual chic with a healthy dose of elegance. They make a room more causal but always still look sophisticated. I had it in my old home and have it in my present home, in my guest room.

As I am still considering the reupholstery of my breakfast room chairs I am thinking of going with a French-y feeling floral on one side and a buffalo check on the other. I find myself continuously drawn to them. So today is all about buffalo checks, if you have not been a fan, this may change your mind and if you are fan, this will remind you why:)

My own guest room where I mixed a traditional toile with buffalo check, love the effect

This is so very pretty, love the idea of using it for a tablecloth mixed in with solid white, Maureen Stevens

Some recent buffalo checks I have found and some great coordinating fabrics=

Don’t know about you but this post has given me a sudden urge to go fabric shopping and do a little decorating:) I will likely use buffalo check in some way in the PB house, think the casual but sophisticated vibe would work well. And you? What do you think of buffalo checks? Do tell, wishing everyone a wonderful day. Until next time….

Bluff Diaries Chapter 6

Hi friends….back with another chapter. It is starting to feel like it will really happen. Our plans are out with two builders that we narrowed it down to and with luck we will have made a decision by next week, will get those final permits and be on our way!

My original plan was to be there by next Easter, that does not look likely however I sure hope that by July 4th we will be calling PB our second home:) There is so much to consider and think about, but I feel like I am making great progress well ahead of schedule by doing these posts. I already know the colors I want, the roof, the windows and shutters, that right there is huge (think of Donald saying H U G E).

Today we are going back to the interiors, when you walk in there is a wide hallway/foyer that opens to a very large great room open to the kitchen/bar (included plans on my last chapter). I have a feeling this is where we will spend a lot of our time. That room has French doors that open to a very large wide deck that goes from one end of the house to the other, love that!

So this room will have tall ceilings and we hope to do some kind of a coffered ceiling. I love when they are painted but I also really like a very light white/washed stain. So here are some of my ideas for how I see that great room being done-

The ceiling-

Either way- painted or white washed, it is a beautiful detail and really adds to that coastal feel-

Great color, Alabaster by  Sherwin Willliams

I am continuing to research this, looove the idea of a stone, like limestone or next best thing, Peacock Pavers but I know they are not as easy on the feet, so we probably will end up doing wood but I am still putting all options on the table! If I do wood it will be a lighter stain and always been a fan of herringbone anything!

And there is no denying the beauty of a Peacock Paver…

Rugs vs sisal-

I see doing either a tonal sisal maybe with a pattern or one of my favorite rugs, Oushaks, the more washed the better!! I know the sisal is not the most comfy on the feet but its so darn pretty, however a worn Oushak is hard to beat.

camilla-sisal dsc_0097 traditional-area-rugs

And of course you cannot deny the beauty of a washed Oushak, so gorgeous!

Fireplace mantle-

We are hoping to do a limestone/cast stone rustic French oversized mantle, I have the vision alive in my mind and know it will be a perfect choice

MT-205-BG P3_Inspiration

The Furnishings-

The fun part aka the furniture/furnishings!  I see a lot of creamy whites, in case you are not onto this idea already:) Soft blues as a subtle bit of color, but a very soft and tonal room. I have always loved this space below that was beautifully finished by specialty finisher Leslie of Segreto, my room will be  much more casual but the feeling that invites you in and is so soothing is what I am after-

I have always seen a big chunky tressel table in this room, the size can handle it and they are incredible durable

And can see any of these chairs, some more casual and some more of  a rustic French

Safavieh Furniture: Sofas, Loveseats, Recliners, Dining, Chairs, Coffee Tables, Accent Tables, Patio/Outdoor Furniture

fox6229h-front contemporary-white-linen-dining-chair-with-varnished-oak-wood-legs-as-well-as-dining-room-arm-chairs-and-dining-arm-chairs-936x702

In the living room/family room I see lots of creamy white (in durable fabrics)

oversized-wood-coffee-tables img-thing C2452_03_0509_fpo-600x6001

I see a tonal room with very subtle color in soft blues and greens, these types of fabrics are what I can see on pillows and maybe a chair or two

Love this trim as well wouldn’t it be pretty on a solid ivory pillow

Always loved this light wood chandelier and am so happy I will have a place to use it, can see putting two in the great room.

And for above the dining table which is an extension of this room can see something along this line ( a pair of these over table) All lighting from Currey

9075 9000-0013

Can see a pair of these beauties on end tables-

And of course lots of small tables, big baskets of magazines books, a few beautiful orchids like those from my shop, all the “fluff”

Stunning Square Ivory with Blue Planter and 3 Stem Orchid Arrangement

Incredible Large Pink Orchid Plant in Long Ivory Gold Tole Planter

Fabulous Hydrangea in Blue and White Tole Planter

2866520_1 img38m

And finally here is a loose storyboard of what I can see this room shaping up to be-

OB-great room

So there you have an overall design scheme for this great room. I see it as a space that is both beautiful and of course light an airy. I think it’s going to be the center of where our living gets done. So comfort, functionality is very important, a few big comfortable sofas with plenty of chairs you can relax in are tops on my list.

Pretty soft lighting, I cannot wait to get to the point where I need to actually start making these decisions! It’s fun though to have a concept in mind and I know me, I don’t waver much, many of our ideas I know are what will end up coming to fruition.

Thank you for stopping in and following along with me..the best is surely yet to come. If you missed any of the other chapters, go to the rop right in the search bar and type in Bluff Diaries it will take you to all the previous posts. Wishing you a fabulous day, until next time……

I left my heart in Nashville and Frankin part 2

Good morning ya’ll!  No Seven on Sunday today because I am here to share the rest of my Nashville/Franklin trip with you but  it will be back next Sunday:) Yes,  I am still very much in a southern state of mind and I don’t plan on snapping out of it anytime soon.

So I shared with you part 1, the very long part 1 yesterday of an overview of our trip to Nashville/Franklin. If you missed it you MUST see it, it’s so wonderful and truly you will feel like you were right there beside me:) Click here to see part 1…..I cannot wait to go back but until then these posts will have to suffice:)

Today’s part 2 is all about the reason I went there in the first place…..the beautiful O’More Showhouse. Beautiful does not do it justice, this was downright perfection. So much talent under one roof. The master behind this fabulous home was Joanne Haynes, a decorating genius who has been to this rodeo once or twice before. Everyone I spoke with agreed, no one can do it quite like Joanne:) She is as lovely as she is talented.

The opening night party was fabulous…..everything looked so gorgeous, drinks and small bites were served. I felt like I was in a movie based off of a southern storyline, elegantly dressed people all over (over 200 of them), warm and gracious, lovely live music, surrounded by beauty everywhere….does it get better than that? Then to have been chosen as the honorary chair was truly the icing on an already very sweet cake:) I was there with three of my closest friends from NY, which made it ultra sweet. Just a great great night!

So thank you to Joanne and O’More College for bestowing this wonderful honor upon me and to everyone who came out to see the showhouse. It was so exciting to meet many of my readers/customers, one as nice as the next. And to my very special friend, Ann who took things up a notch and gave us the most wonderful tour and treated us to a wonderful country lunch. Hard to believe that all of this started with my little blog! And of course to my friends from NY who traveled with me and were able to share this wonderful occasion with me!

So I am anxious to show you the showhouse..just amazingly beautiful. If you are in the area or feel like taking a little trip, you will not be sorry…this is very much worth the visit. Click here for more info. And here we go……

I managed to snap a few quick pics as we got there right before the party was starting (and a few from a friend)……

Loved getting to see these oversized cards they made for me on the kitchen countertop:)

Phew…that was quite a tour! As amazing as seeing it in pictures is, there is nothing like seeing it in person. So if you have the chance to go…..GO!  I hope you feel like you were almost there with me, tried to capture as much as I could. Thank goodness for our phones:) It was such a magical  night and such a beautiful showhouse, I am truly honored to have been a part of it! Click here for details on the O’More Showhouse.

A big thanks to Joanne Haynes and the O’More College for inviting me and giving my friends and I a taste of “southern hospitality” at it’s finest. It is a wonderful memory and a reminder of just how incredible the world of blogging is…look at what it has given me!

Hope you enjoyed this whirlwind tour through Nashville/Franklin……thank you for stopping in and sharing all of my life’s adventures with me, it makes it so much more fun:) Until next time……

About those dining room drapes……

Hello everyone and happy Friday. First,  I want to announce the winner of the Tory Burch flip flops, congratulations goes to-

#93 JUDE

Please contact me at theenchantedhome@gmail. com to claim your prize and tell me your size

I am so excited to show you my BEAUTIFUL dining room drapes. They are exactly as I had dreamed they would be. I wanted a simple elegant panel that resembles a silk ballroom skirt with a beautiful trim to pick up the soft blue in the rug. I chose a gorgeous silk dupioni from Beacon Hill fabrics in the color, Snow and had long ago fallen in love with my beautiful trim from the incomparable Samuel and Sons… one makes trims like they do!

Once I had my stunning handpainted paper murals from Paul Montgomery installed, I  knew that the drapes were the only thing missing. So it definitely motivated me to make it a priority which I finally did:)

I also ordered gorgeous gold leaf pole and finials from a company that will be carried on my new site….they make the beautiful solid wood drapery hardware, very elegant. So though it took a while for me to get this together, it finally happened. I waited anxiously for the drapes to come back from my local workroom that I have worked with for years….and day of installation watching it all come togehter, made me question why I had waited so long!!

These pictures will speak for themselves….(used my Nikon for these pics, the occasion called for it:)

The elegant gold leaf drapery hardware/finials-

Yes the silk color and fabulous trim were spot on….phew! I am a fan of about a 3″ puddle on the floors, nothing worse than drapes that are too short!

And here it is installation day!

I could not be any  happier with how they came out…it is exactly as I had envisioned and hoped. They are light and airy, yet formal and elegant without being too stuffy or over the top. I did not do “rings” because I did not need them to move and felt it would take away from the elegant simplicity. It is just “enough” but still allows my gorgeous chinoiserie murals to be the main star!

Thank for stopping by to take a look. Hope you have a wonderful day, and end to your week. Until next time…..

Pinterest Pretties- My style

Hi everyone and happy Saturday to you. The sun is shining, it’s cool but spring is not that far away and I have been on a flower buying binge to add some “early spring” to my home. It’s Oscar weekend…love all the pomp and circumstance of this iconic event. Hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend so far.

Periodically I highlight favorites form some of my Pinterest boards, a constant evolving gallery of favorite images and pictures.? Today’s post is on the board “My style” which best defines what I love in decor , now and then and it’s fun to see how our taste evolves, mine has not changed much but I do appreciate a light, airy look more than I ever have and find those kinds of spaces so soothing and calming. If you want to see more or follow along with me, click here. And here we go…..

4d30c3d897886880f22e782241872eb5 b804496e4ad39d69907f6c5627aed088 041070100cec0bde9c94cafc4e0126a9

It’s funny looking over this board, it made me realize that while my taste has not wavered much over the years, I have been drawn increasingly to slightly more casual (but still very sophisticated) spaces. Maybe its my subconscious preparing for a part time more casual lifestyle in Palmetto Bluff:).

I also realized I am drawn to a variety of styles, that are beyond true purist traditional, I don’t mind a bit of a mix as long as it’s really well done. It’s interesting how our taste evolves and grows with us as we enter new chapters of our life. Anything here speak to you? What is your style? Thank you for stopping in, a few reminders-

Seven on Sunday

Hello and happy Sunday! Rainy, dark and stormy over here today…perfect movie day. And as I am so out of the movie loop and haven’t seen anything that is new, looks like I have lots to choose from with The Big Short and Joy at the top of my list……but I must be home in time to see all the fun Golden Globes pre show fashions! Love awards season:) You can see my past recap on the last Golden Globes by clicking here…will be sure to post on this years as well!

Been a busy week with the long awaited arrival of my gorgeous chinoiserie tole…it was so exciting to get what to me, are the prettiest pieces from my chinoiseris tole yet. An exciting 2 day sale has started which will end tonight and trust me it is something you will not want to miss.

Hope whatever you are up to this weekend is fun and relaxing. I was thinking this is the first winter that I can remember that we have not had a single snowflake…kind of makes me sad, so old man winter please come back (just for a little while)!

I desperately want one good snow storm then we can happily stroll into spring:) Anyway here is my Seven on Sunday…..

3. PRETTIEST WINE I EVER DID SEE! Isn’t this the most gorgeous bottle? It happens to be a mighty tasty rose as well and I love the name, Summer in a bottle. I am in love with it and what a beautiful hostess gift to give! Click here to visit Wolffer Estates.

I normally drink rose in the summer but now that I make the most delicious rose sangria,? it is now a year round option in this house. Very simple, here is my recipe below (to server approx. 6-8) or 1 if I have had a very tough day lol:)

Rose Sangria-

2 bottles of rose, fresh berries ( I like blackberries and raspberries), a bag of frozen peaches, 2 oranges cut in cubes (skin off), about 12 strawberries cut up, a sprig of mint, fresh OJ (can use ready made if you don’t have fresh but fresh is much better), 3 TBSP sugar, and a bottle of peach sparkling water.

Add the fruit with rose and using a potato master or pestle, gently mash the fruit into the liquid. I normally pour it in a big bowl or into two pitchers.

Put in fridge for ideally at least 8 hours (overnight works well too) or you can put in freezer for an hour or so

When you are ready to serve, add 2 cups orange juice and a bottle of peach sparkling water. Pour into glass making sure some of the fruit is included add a sprig of mint….voila!

4 MY CHINOISERIE TOLE HAS ARRIVED!! This is super exciting for me, some truly exquisite pieces….by far my favorite container of the tole yet. All of these beauties are currently up for grabs on a presale that ends tonight. Click here for all details.

And how about here, do you like the idea of an orchid or the peonies (a low arrangement)?

6. ONE DELICIOUS SALAD. This was sooooo good, a new staple for me. Not so different from the one I have made for years but this one with a few extra ingredients is incredibly tasty and quite pretty too. Actually makes me look forward to eating a salad…..a first. Click here for the recipe, you will be happy you did!

7. BOOKS. One of my many “resolutions” this year is to start reading again. I used to be an avid reader then somehow life took over where I don’t feel there are nearly enough hours in the day, sound familiar?

However I miss the feeling that only a good book can deliver about being transported to another place….nothing quite like it.? So here are a few that I recently ordered that I am excited to begin, and hopefully reignite my love for reading……

So there you have it…anything excite or entice you? Hope whatever you are up to is wonderful and mostly, relaxing. I look forward like you cannot imagine to my lazy Sundays:) Thank you for stopping by, until next time…….

Hi friends! I am back and well rested. Will tell you all about it later in the week. Oh how I love this line of such gorgeous fabrics and wallpaper. Quadrille kind of makes me want to buy a new house just so I can start the decorating process all over again:) I had a great grouping of pillows done in my old house by them which I greatly regret selling along with many of our furnishings to the people who bought our house.

I recently bought more of the Bali Hai fabric and am having pillows made, not sure if I will use them in the lower level and/or possibly outside when spring rolls around but trust me they will find a great resting place! I am also loving it in the green, you know how I? love that rich mossy green so getting a sample of that too, and might just look for a spot for those as well!

In case you are not familiar with Quardrille, welcome to their beautiful world of fabrics and wallpapers. Just feast your eyes on all of the beautiful rooms their product line has graced and at the end some of my favorite fabrics. Enjoy!

A dining room, a dream and two years of patience….

Hello there!? How long have I waited to write this post….a looooong time. Even before we moved in, I knew I wanted to put chinoiserie hand painted panels in? my dining room. I also understood that this was hardly a ‘top of the list” item and as we had dozens and dozens of other things that were far more important, like running water, bathtubs, painting and windows! I knew it would happen in due time, but that I needed to be patient (not one of my strong suits).

So after the first year as things started to settle into place, my idea was hatched of what I wanted in there, we found the most beautiful rug and that sort of set the tone. This past year we got our dining room chairs and our very long awaited mantle (but so worth the wait) so the room was starting to shape up indeed. I started plotting about how the dining room might turn out….and soon I turned to the artistic genius of Paul Montgomery Studios and over many many months, we finally got an order going.

This is a process, and patience is absolutely essential Just drawing up the patterns, customizing the colors and of course you need to factor in the lead time in getting new samples and sending them back and forth, we are talking months and months. Alas, we finally had a sample I loved enough and many many emails later, the order was placed. Finally a few weeks go the long waited panels arrived and we put our hanger on the schedule.

There were times it felt like it would never happen but that all changed a few weeks ago. Finally we got it done! My dream for my dining room realized. And let me say this……I absolutely love it. It is soft, muted, understated elegance at it’s best in my opinion. I had it “hand blocked” and antiqued which gave it an old almost worn in feeling… is so dreamy:)

I am still on the prowl for an antique, large sideboard (the one we have now is from our old house) and I still? have to recover two upholstered chairs to go on the side wall and am going to work on silk panels for the windows to complete the room. I am thinking of keeping it soft and understated, creamy silk panels with maybe a pale blue tape or trim, billowy and understated elegance.? Ready to see the completed room so far?

I used my Nikon camera for these pictures, I am certainly no photographer but did the best I could…one day one day I hope to take a class though:)

So here it is completed except for window treatments which is the next step in completing the room….getting there!!

Paul Montgomery Studios delivered on what I wanted and I could not be happier. It is a classic look that will stand the test of time. Even down the road if anyone else ever lives here, the colors are so neutral with just hints of pale blues and greens, that they could use almost any color in this room and it would work beautifully. Another advantage to going with a more monochromatic color scheme.

If you have plans for chinoiserie paper for your home,? I cannot recommend them enough. They made the process almost effortless, gave great personalized special attention to me and my project and were a joy to work with.

You can contact them here and drool over all the beauty in their website. In addition be sure you mention are you from The Enchanted Home for an extra special discount:) Thank you for stopping by, wishing you wonderful day!

A memorable lunch with friends…..

Hello, so what does one do when you wake up at 3:30 and can’t go back to sleep? I mean I am an early riser but this is just absurd!? So I decided to write a post……at least I am getting a head start on my day:) On Tuesday I had the pleasure of hosting a group of wonderful blogging friends who I have become friendly with. It was such a lovely get together. It was held in my home and I had fun as I always do planning what to serve and mapping out all the little details that go along with planning any kind of gathering.

At first I was going to do it outdoors but given the call for possibly humid weather I decided to have it inside so set it up as a true “ladies luncheon” in the dining room…and why not! I rarely get to use that room and it was a nice change getting to use my china, crystal and silver. I know my readers really enjoy my entertaining posts so thought I would share a bit about the afternoon. I always stop with the picture taking once my guests arrive just because I get so caught up in playing hostess. If only I had an extra pair of hands:)

So, here are the details. When they arrived, I served peach Bellinis and a wonderful and quite easy crostini and given that there wasn’t a single one left it appears they were a hit (recipes below). We sat outside on the covered porch….then moved inside for lunch.

I served a rose and sparkling water, finally made those darling ice cubes with edible flowers in them, perfect for a smaller group. For lunch I started with a really tasty curried cream of vegetable autumn soup (perfect for fall) that is a staple in my home come fall,? several of those that were there asked for the recipe so that too is included and then served a wonderful chicken salad with an assortment of breads, two types of tarts, one asparagus and Swiss tart and the other a spinach and Manchego tart and a mixed green, brussel sprouts, pear and walnut salad. To finish off the meal, a tray of mini tarts one pecan and pear and the other a chocolate mousse was served along with a assortment of fresh fruit, coffee and tea.

Add to that all kinds of? lively conversation, lots of laughs and wonderful little favors, it made for a wonderful afternoon!? And here are the highlights…..

I am big on being organized in the kitchen so here are various toppings/condiments in bowls…

Finally made those wonderful little ice cubes with the edible flowers, I hadn’t bought an ice cube tray I think in 20 years!

The edible flowers were picked up a local market, or can be bought online

More garnishes await

My little blue and white bowls are perfect for things like sugars and teas…..

qewqqunnamedTable setting!

Moving onto the food and table, did not get pictures of the tarts or the soup but here is what I did get…..

This crostini is heavenly! I think the key is a good baguette and great ricotta (ideally fresh whipped ricotta), I spread the ricotta on a buttered grilled sliced baguette, then add a good helping of fig preserves (I mix it with a little orange zest), top that with chopped roasted pecans, add a drizzle of honey and top with chopped figs….yum! My rustic wooden trivets from my online shop is the perfect way to serve this wonderful little appetizer….

This is what I used, it is really good!

Lunch! The soup (took this picture from Karolyn)!

Curried cream of vegetable autumn soup recipe-

1 very large head of cauliflower (or 1 and a half heads), 4 carrots, 4 Yukon gold potatoes, 1/4/ cup chopped flat parsley, 1 large onion, 1 Tbsp chopped parsnip, 2 Knorrs chicken bullion cubes. Cut up all vegetables fairly small (about 1″) Fill a pot with about 5-6 cups of water, add bouillon cubes and all vegetables. Boil until very soft. Remove from heat and in batches puree with handheld mixer or in a blender until very smooth. Pour back in soup pot. Add sea salt, fresh pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and curry powder to taste. Add about 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Original recipe calls for 3/4 cup of cream but I have lessened it by adding 2 more potatoes and the result is excellent. Add a pinch of finely chopped chives on top for garnish and enjoy!

The wonderful? and very flavorful chicken salad, for recipe click here. (I added pumpkin seeds and some dried herbs to mine as well) This is really tasty and quite healthy.

334453unnamed unname435dA great assortment of wonderful fresh breads is a must!
