Good morning. This has been a crazy busy week. So much going on at the house. We have our inspection in 2 days, ?please cross your fingers and toes for us! We are supposed to be getting a temporary CO. The last few days literally have felt like a souped version of “Home extreme makeover”, we have had so many people in and out, brought in extra crews and nearly all working over time. We have an exceptional group of people working for us and we are most definitely going to throw them a party when all is said and done. They truly deserve it. I haven’t had a tremendous amount of time to do much else other than the house, so this is house heavy but am sharing a few things I am loving or that have touched me this week…..but before I begin I found this bag online from Kate Spade which is just so apropos for what and how I am feeling…what do you think?
HOUSE UPDATES. Oh boy, so much going on. Kitchen is really coming along and I am loving every inch. We had to put on cardboard counter tops, to get the CO….no worries, I didn’t change my mind on the marble, lol! Bathrooms plumbing getting done, toilets in etc……Moldings and woodworking continues to hum along. Outside is buzzing, gutters installed, countertops going in later today in all the bathrooms, floors are starting to get stained, the breakfast room finisher is nearing the staining/limed oak finish. As you can see at every turn, something really exciting is happening…this is the fun part, finally!!

If you are doing a bathroom, I highly suggest a showerbox cut into the wall and framing it with marble chair rails..it looks so pretty and is very fucntional to keep things out of the way
WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT. The first time I found out about this, my heart raced and my hair stood on end. Why? Because for so long, I was thinking of how I would eventually like to find a way to give directly to those wounded men and women coming home from a senseless war, whose lives have changed forever in ways we cannot fathom. Many who come home with severe problems, mentally, emotionally and physically. They often come home to humble beginnings, broken souls and spirits and families that need to bond again. It has nothing to do with how you feel about the war, they are doing their job and doing their part to protect our liberties and freedoms. There is no job on this earth as stoic and heroic as that one in my opinion. So this fantastic organization, founded by veterans and friends helps raise money and awareness to help these young men and women come home to recover and transition into civilian life again. Their motto is “the greatest casualty is being forgotten”. I am so in awe of this project and am happy to support it. Hope you might consider doing the same. Click here to find out more. JO MALONE. You are likely already familiar with?her wonderful scents, I also love the simple elegant packaging. When you are up to your ears in “house business” and every thing else takes a back seat, it is important to still try and take out a little time to do something for yourself. Shopping…whats that? One of my favorite past times has passed me by, but I love putting on a beautiful soft fragrance to give me a little lift. I like many of her scents but two of my favorites are the white tie and tiara, inspired by Sir Elton John’s white scented garden, and I believe part of the proceeds still go to Elton Johns AIDS foundation. Hope they still make it! The other one I have worn for years ( don’t call me an old lady) is Red roses….its so yummy and I must admit it reminds me so much of my great grandmother so it keeps her memory alive for me in a scent that we both love! THE HELP. I know I touched on this a few days ago the day after I saw it but I cannot tell you enough just how much I enjoyed this movie. I am not sure what percentage of it is because of my southern roots and being able to relate to much of the storyline on a more personal ?level versus how much is just that it was so well done, the characters so well chosen. I cried several times throughout, all tears of joy, sorrow and hope. It is that good, I would and will most certainly see it again. Didn’t think it could hold a candle next to the book, but I was wrong. I hope you will see it too..if you have already, did you love it as much as I did? Emma Stone and Viola Davis in my humble opininon both gave Oscar worthy performances. And that Octavia Spencer, that firecracker of a woman certainly could be up for one too! Hope you will see it……
Well everyone thats about it for this Thursday. As I said have been so busy over at the house, haven’t had a lot of time to discover a lot going on around me, but I am not complaining, anything just to get this done!! Oh Tina what a splendid house, that is the only word for it! Your kitchen is so grand and so elegant and the kitchen powder room (what a novel idea!) is such a pretty room, the flooring, tiles and pedestal sink are gorgeous. I agree with you about the exterior lights I can imagine something very simple and elegant but English – have you considered carriage lanterns, the wall type? I do think the elegance would work well. The house looks GREAT…my fingers are crossed for the inspection! I helped with a charity event a couple years ago and we supported Wounded Warrior Project. When I was in East Hampton I was thrilled to see all of the WWP signs. I even remember seeing a sign in one of your photos next to a roadside stand. It’s such a wonderful cause! I love all the tile flooring you choose for all your bathrooms, so beautiful. And I agree with you on your outside light your home is more French in style so the gothic looks out of place, go check out Chateau Domingue.com for some period lighting. Everything looks magnificent..I love the balustrade, truly a masterpiece, great mudroom and I would love to cook in a kitchen like that. I like lantern..not sure if it appears so Gothic, more like a statement piece which you would want for a house that size..yes, I can see you badly need a vacation!

I am in love with the double hutches in the kitchen looking out towards the family room. No I wonder what you will fill them with~will they be utilitarian storage filled with wine glasses and collections of dishes or will they have row after row of transferware or creamware??? So fun to start imagining the decorating part of all this grandness! Oh, and I love the different marble floor patterns in the bathrooms!!
Can not wait to see The Help! I started the book a few summers ago after dinner at the beach one day and literally stayed up all night finishing it because I could not put it down.

I am so in love with your house! I see what you mean about the exterior lights. Absolutely gorgeous, yes but no not quite “french”. But the joy of it is the hunting, no? There is no rush for the every last detail. You will find the perfect fixtures that will speak to you just when you should!
Home inspection.. well I know all about them. I don’t know about codes etc but I know your home is certainly a work of art and has used the talents of true craftsmen. So I can’t see a government/town inspector finding any fault at all- its obviously very high quality work done by experts. So don’t worry your head about it. You have obviously done all you can do in the planning and building stage.
Personally I just can’t wait to see you all moved in there, living so happily and see the finished product. That is kind of weird for me- hey Tina, I don’t know you- but can I see the inside of your finished home? Just that design, decor- is such a passion of mine and I feel in some strange way that we have so much in common- its actually eerie.
What a great lady and inspiration you are to me. I thank you so much for brightening my day and reminding me to dream with your great posts.

Wow! I feel like we should cue up David Bowie: “Ch-ch-changes…”. So much has been accomplished! The kitchen progress is amazing, and the butler’s pantry is going to look outstanding. The handwork in the bath is beyond lovely, I do love the showerbox, it really does help remove that cluttered look from a floor or caddy or other areas.

I was so consumed with the project for 2 years that I felt guilty I did not think of more “worthy” causes during that time. I love your “Wounded Warrior Project” entry. Your house is spectacular and I am loving the transformation. I, too, would get so excited when something new had been done. All the time and effort spent on choosing the plumbing, lighting, paint, etc, finally come together and all one can do is marvel. I hope you are going to show us the decorated finish to each room. As for the light it isn’t bad, the style is a bit more formal than I what I go for but I do not see Gothic when I look at that lamp. The scale is perfect for the space, keep us posted on what you do!
We just had our master bath redone. Have the exact same toilet in there now. They are very tall seats. I’m 5’5″ and my feet just touch the floor!
Your taste is truly exquisite. I love to see it all coming together and I can’t wait to see the finished project. The shape of the lantern really fits the space, but if you aren’t completely happy with it, I know you will find the perfect one for that spot.

I just signed up to help make quilts for the Wounded Warrior organization. You should see some of the wonderful quilts the women of south Orange County have made for the wounded men and women who serve our country.
My favorite Jo Malone fragrance is Orange Blossoms mixed with Blue Agave and Cacao. Love, love, love it. My 19 year old daughter loves Red Roses. I love to buy Jo Malone as a gift. I feel it is so luxurious!

I get so excited to see the progress on the house. I’m even focusing on the bathroom floor (and matching insert) in husband’s shower….I really love that pattern! Dropped by my architect’s today and we just need to pass our ARB (Architectural Board of Review), choose the contractor (bids due Tue) and get rolling. My project is teeny tiny compared to yours, but I still need to make some decisions. Your project certainly helps me visualize things!!!

I had spent so much time on our last home renovation, that my (at the time only 4 yr old) son said to me when we finally said good bye to the foreman, “Arent you going to kiss him good bye?” He had seen more of the work men that he had of his Father for over a year! ALso, so good of you to mention WW. I am attending a funeral for a fallen navy Seal tomorrow, and my heart is so heavy. The Navy Seal FOundation is also a worth organization.

Wow, Tina! I’ve missed a few posts while away helping my son move onto his college campus. I’ll certainly have to catch up! I know it sounds like a cliche, but there really aren’t words to describe your home. It is truly magnificent. I like the outside lantern, but agree that it does have a Gothic look. Nothing wrong with that, but you may want to go with a more French-inspired lantern. I’d anticipated The Help after seeing the movie trailer, but haven’t seen it yet. I need a beautiful fragrance that doesn’t aggravate my sinuses, so I’ll have to try Jo Malone. Thank you for helping the Wounded Warrior Project. Your generous, kind spirit comes through in your written word and the causes you support.
Perfection is the best reward in life when you’ve worked so hard and that Kate Spade purse is proof. To achieve what we want is never a light issue it’s all consuming which means waking hours and most of our sleeping hours too.

A great scent transforms us in time and space and leaves our best impression on others. Using the same scent no two people smell the alike because our chemistry changes it. Glad to learn about your invisible signature scent.
“The Help” I’m so glad you attend movies and bring your whole self with you I do the same I become an emotional live wire with movies such as this and they remain with me for days afterwards. It’s a pull of cosmic proportion on the compassionate individuals of this wonderful world.
Deep breaths, walk it out, and remember “this to shall pass” and when it does it’s big time celebration!
What a great feeling to see your home coming along. I love the kitchen and all of the cabinets. When we did our remodel I didn’t do a final party, but would bring the crew {whoever was there} donuts on Tuesdays, Pizza on thursday. There was a delay in our project, so they worked through the winter. I would put out hot apple cider for them on the really cold days with styrofoam cups. I think it really built a good morale. It is going to be great!
What a home !!! Just beautiful, Tina. Every time you show us a look I love it more. Thankfully, here in Texas the Wounded Warrior program is well-known, we have many military bases in our state. Both of my husbands were former military officers, and all of us feel we must support their mission. It is so fun to watch your house come together – the details are so beautiful! I am very curious about your breakfast room stain. We are building now and trying to figure out what we are going to do with our library. It has narrow (4 stacked single lights and a bottom panel) french doors (2 of them) as the only windows so not loads of light. I want to do something lighter and limed oak is on my short list. Yours is perfect! Is it just regular white oak or is it quartersawn? What about the finish – it looked like it was stained and then limed. Do you have any details? I would love to achieve a similar finish!
Gosh its really coming together isn’t it? I love the tiles in the bathroom how it looks woven really nice, I so wish I had done the recess in our bathroom to hold all the shampoos ect (next house) The stair case is stunning I bet each day your heart does a flutter watching it all come together 🙂
Oh Tina! I couldn’t agree with you any more regarding the movie The Help. I almost did a post just wondering if anyone was as nervous as I was about the movie. So rarely is the movie as good as the book. I didn’t want to ruin my memory of how good the book was! But oh, did they ever pull it off!!! I loved the movie so much and cried my eyes out! I am seriously in awe of your superwomaness! How do you do it all? You win awards, write the longest posts ever, post everyday it seems, deal with the stress of building a mansion, go to art shows and movies, plus you’re a mom and wife! I am in awe. I am feeling overwhelmed and am not finding the time to comment as much as I would like. You are the best commenter too! If your energy pills are for sale, I’ll take a case! THE HELP. I know I touched on this a few days ago the day after I saw it but I cannot tell you enough just how much I enjoyed this movie. I am not sure what percentage of it is because of my southern roots and being able to relate to much of the storyline on a more personal ?level versus how much is just that it was so well done, the characters so well chosen. I cried several times throughout, all tears of joy, sorrow and hope. It is that good, I would and will most certainly see it again. Didn’t think it could hold a candle next to the book, but I was wrong. I hope you will see it too..if you have already, did you love it as much as I did? Emma Stone and Viola Davis in my humble opininon both gave Oscar worthy performances. And that Octavia Spencer, that firecracker of a woman certainly could be up for one too! Hope you will see it……

Oh Tina what a splendid house, that is the only word for it! Your kitchen is so grand and so elegant and the kitchen powder room (what a novel idea!) is such a pretty room, the flooring, tiles and pedestal sink are gorgeous. I agree with you about the exterior lights I can imagine something very simple and elegant but English – have you considered carriage lanterns, the wall type? I do think the elegance would work well. The house looks GREAT…my fingers are crossed for the inspection! I helped with a charity event a couple years ago and we supported Wounded Warrior Project. When I was in East Hampton I was thrilled to see all of the WWP signs. I even remember seeing a sign in one of your photos next to a roadside stand. It’s such a wonderful cause! How great was The Help…I will pass on the chocolate pie thanks! xx

I love all the tile flooring you choose for all your bathrooms, so beautiful. And I agree with you on your outside light your home is more French in style so the gothic looks out of place, go check out Chateau Domingue.com for some period lighting. Everything looks magnificent..I love the balustrade, truly a masterpiece, great mudroom and I would love to cook in a kitchen like that. I like lantern..not sure if it appears so Gothic, more like a statement piece which you would want for a house that size..yes, I can see you badly need a vacation!

I am in love with the double hutches in the kitchen looking out towards the family room. No I wonder what you will fill them with~will they be utilitarian storage filled with wine glasses and collections of dishes or will they have row after row of transferware or creamware??? So fun to start imagining the decorating part of all this grandness! Oh, and I love the different marble floor patterns in the bathrooms!!
Can not wait to see The Help! I started the book a few summers ago after dinner at the beach one day and literally stayed up all night finishing it because I could not put it down.

Something jumped out at me though…in Son #2’s bathroom, there is a sticker that says “heated backrest this side”…if that’s true he will bang his head on the faucets trying to enjoy that!

I am so in love with your house! I see what you mean about the exterior lights. Absolutely gorgeous, yes but no not quite “french”. But the joy of it is the hunting, no? There is no rush for the every last detail. You will find the perfect fixtures that will speak to you just when you should!
Home inspection.. well I know all about them. I don’t know about codes etc but I know your home is certainly a work of art and has used the talents of true craftsmen. So I can’t see a government/town inspector finding any fault at all- its obviously very high quality work done by experts. So don’t worry your head about it. You have obviously done all you can do in the planning and building stage.
Personally I just can’t wait to see you all moved in there, living so happily and see the finished product. That is kind of weird for me- hey Tina, I don’t know you- but can I see the inside of your finished home? Just that design, decor- is such a passion of mine and I feel in some strange way that we have so much in common- its actually eerie.
What a great lady and inspiration you are to me. I thank you so much for brightening my day and reminding me to dream with your great posts.

Wow! I feel like we should cue up David Bowie: “Ch-ch-changes…”. So much has been accomplished! The kitchen progress is amazing, and the butler’s pantry is going to look outstanding. The handwork in the bath is beyond lovely, I do love the showerbox, it really does help remove that cluttered look from a floor or caddy or other areas.

I am a newcomer to your blog and I am loving every entry. I can relate so much to what you are going through. We just built our dream home at the beach. I was so consumed with the project for 2 years that I felt guilty I did not think of more “worthy” causes during that time. I love your “Wounded Warrior Project” entry. Your house is spectacular and I am loving the transformation. I, too, would get so excited when something new had been done. All the time and effort spent on choosing the plumbing, lighting, paint, etc, finally come together and all one can do is marvel. I hope you are going to show us the decorated finish to each room. I love choosing fabrics and furniture and that will be fun to see all come together. Thank you for sharing your project with us. I’m so glad I discovered you!

As for the light it isn’t bad, the style is a bit more formal than I what I go for but I do not see Gothic when I look at that lamp. The scale is perfect for the space, keep us posted on what you do!

We just had our master bath redone. Have the exact same toilet in there now. They are very tall seats. I’m 5’5″ and my feet just touch the floor!
Your taste is truly exquisite. I love to see it all coming together and I can’t wait to see the finished project. The shape of the lantern really fits the space, but if you aren’t completely happy with it, I know you will find the perfect one for that spot.

I just signed up to help make quilts for the Wounded Warrior organization. You should see some of the wonderful quilts the women of south Orange County have made for the wounded men and women who serve our country.
My favorite Jo Malone fragrance is Orange Blossoms mixed with Blue Agave and Cacao. Love, love, love it. My 19 year old daughter loves Red Roses. I love to buy Jo Malone as a gift. I feel it is so luxurious!

I get so excited to see the progress on the house. I’m even focusing on the bathroom floor (and matching insert) in husband’s shower….I really love that pattern! Dropped by my architect’s today and we just need to pass our ARB (Architectural Board of Review), choose the contractor (bids due Tue) and get rolling. My project is teeny tiny compared to yours, but I still need to make some decisions. Your project certainly helps me visualize things!!!

I had spent so much time on our last home renovation, that my (at the time only 4 yr old) son said to me when we finally said good bye to the foreman, “Arent you going to kiss him good bye?” He had seen more of the work men that he had of his Father for over a year!
ALso, so good of you to mention WW. I am attending a funeral for a fallen navy Seal tomorrow, and my heart is so heavy. The Navy Seal FOundation is also a worth organization.

Wow, Tina! I’ve missed a few posts while away helping my son move onto his college campus. I’ll certainly have to catch up! I know it sounds like a cliche, but there really aren’t words to describe your home. It is truly magnificent. I like the outside lantern, but agree that it does have a Gothic look. Nothing wrong with that, but you may want to go with a more French-inspired lantern. I’d anticipated The Help after seeing the movie trailer, but haven’t seen it yet. I need a beautiful fragrance that doesn’t aggravate my sinuses, so I’ll have to try Jo Malone. Thank you for helping the Wounded Warrior Project. Perfection is the best reward in life when you’ve worked so hard and that Kate Spade purse is proof. To achieve what we want is never a light issue it’s all consuming which means waking hours and most of our sleeping hours too.
Well how spectacular you should be feeling right about now even with nerves lurking for the CO visit. Once it’s over you’ll wonder where all the time went even though it’s been 3 years.
Everything looks so dreamy and perfect. You’ll have to give us a tour via podcast when your castle is complete. You have been doing an extraordinary job with all the pressures and demands put upon you.
Love the Kate Spade bag it’s you! Outdoor lanterns I like the scale and they look masculine like the tile in your husband bath. Boys bathroom, power room are all looking really really nice. Rolling right along with you on all the other house updates they are exceptional well done.
Wounded Warrior Project your body signals when your soul has something to say…but you have to listen….you did and that’s why this appeals to you good for you what a great cause helping others directly from your heart.
A great scent transforms us in time and space and leaves our best impression on others. Using the same scent no two people smell the alike because our chemistry changes it. Glad to learn about your invisible signature scent.
“The Help” I’m so glad you attend movies and bring your whole self with you I do the same I become an emotional live wire with movies such as this and they remain with me for days afterwards. It’s a pull of cosmic proportion on the compassionate individuals of this wonderful world.

What a great feeling to see your home coming along. I love the kitchen and all of the cabinets. When we did our remodel I didn’t do a final party, but would bring the crew {whoever was there} donuts on Tuesdays, Pizza on thursday. There was a delay in our project, so they worked through the winter. I would put out hot apple cider for them on the really cold days with styrofoam cups. I think it really built a good morale. It is going to be great!
What a home !!! Just beautiful, Tina. Every time you show us a look I love it more. Thankfully, here in Texas the Wounded Warrior program is well-known, we have many military bases in our state. Both of my husbands were former military officers, and all of us feel we must support their mission.
Now, I couldn’t read The Help, just waaay too much dialect for me (& I’m Southern) but everyone is raving over the movie, so I’m going for sure. Sending love, sweetie….

It is so fun to watch your house come together – the details are so beautiful! I am very curious about your breakfast room stain. We are building now and trying to figure out what we are going to do with our library. It has narrow (4 stacked single lights and a bottom panel) french doors (2 of them) as the only windows so not loads of light. I want to do something lighter and limed oak is on my short list. Yours is perfect! Is it just regular white oak or is it quartersawn? What about the finish – it looked like it was stained and then limed. Do you have any details? I would love to achieve a similar finish!

Oh Tina! I couldn’t agree with you any more regarding the movie The Help. I almost did a post just wondering if anyone was as nervous as I was about the movie. So rarely is the movie as good as the book. I didn’t want to ruin my memory of how good the book was! But oh, did they ever pull it off!!! I loved the movie so much and cried my eyes out!
