Before I begin this post…got in 4 fabulous dough bowls yesterday. All stunning, they go fast and there are always people wanting one….so if interested email me here.
Good Friday morning! I really enjoy the relatively new concept of e-desgn. Its a lot of fun and I am working on two great projects right now. One of them is a project for a wonderful lady who wants to freshen up her beach house. She was open to ideas/colors but prefers earth tones, however was not opposed to introducing other colors into the room. We are starting with the living room. The idea was to create a sophisticated, but fresh inviting vibe to the space. In the next room over, the family room, there is navy and off white. There is a lot of sunlight and very high ceilings. (we have not really addressed art or wall application yet).

So I started with the earth tones, to honor her wishes and because we all know that when you start with a neutral palette, it makes it so easy to change things up when and if you want to down the road. I came up with four mood broads, which I am sharing with you today. Mind you, these are concepts at this point and will be tweaked and fine tuned when she decides which way she wants to go. Its always fun to hear your take…so if you we redoing a beach house living room, which of these would you choose?

CHOICE 1

CHOICE 2

CHOICE 3

CHOICE 4

I have to say I am having a hard time making my own mind up. I am really torn between two. How about you? I wish that was my dilemma….decorating for my beach house:) Look forward to hearing what you have to say and wishing you a fabulous Friday!

I really like the Earth Tone version – the first one – you captured that serene ocean/beach feeling perfectly. I like end table number 2 with it and would still use the gold mirror because I have to have a touch of gold/sheen in a room and of course, it pairs beautifully with the blue/white porcelain. Wish I could hire you down here in Virginia!

Tina you are so good! I love every single one but since I am a soft green fanatic (have it all over my house) I am drawn to #2 but honestly they are all exquisite. She is a lucky lady!

Good morning Tina…I have always wanted to decorate a beach house (for myself – I am certainly no designer)! I love your choice with the ocean blues (which if you think about it is an “earth” tone – the color of the ocean!)

Have a great weekend! xoxoxo

Another Virginian here! Plus, I live at the beach and am re-doing my home! I can’t wait to see how your plans develop! I am drawn to #2, but like the more subtle rug from 1,3 & 4. Sand is so hard on floors and rugs that are constantly vacuuming in the summer. Love the nesting end tables! It’s nice be be able to move the smaller tables to occasional pieces (like the ottomans) for drinks if you have a crowd over. With 3 pre-school grandsons, I would never risk a glass table! Thanks for sharing your boards!

Funny but I rarely use blue in our home but a beach house says blue to me so the second board would be my choice. You still have the neutrals but because the blue is light it comes off as a neutral. It’s really a beautiful combination and one I would use. Boy Tina you sure are busy with designing and everyinthg else.

Enjoy your weekend Tina!

Hi Tina, all lovely choices. Some day will you share with us your design process? How do you go about designing a room for a client? Where do you find the pictures to post in your choices? Do your clients purchase these exact items or are they just ideas? Just so curious and love your blog!!

Thank you!
Sara

Tina your customer is one lucky lady! She is going to be getting such a beautiful room thanks to your talents. I have to say I am torn between 1 and 3. I do love 2 also but feel the neutrality of the other two could make it easier down the road to add or take away other colors. All four are really beautiful though.
Hope you had a happy Valentines day.

Just beautiful. If I was lucky enough to have a beach house to decorate, you would so be hired for the job! There is no “wrong” choice here but I do love the 3rd with the navy and the versatility of the first. The interesting textures make them really great looking even though they are very neutral.

Nice job Tina!

Love everything! I live near the water. If I could choose for myself it would be choice 2. It feels like calm rolling waves on a sandy shore. I could almost sink into the sofa and take a nap. I love the stacking end tables. Beach houses bring lots of visitors so I’m sure that they would come in handy and take up less storage space. GREAT IDEA. I love the solid ottoman. Love it!!!!
Such fun!
Hugs,
Morena

Hi Tina….again you have such a good eye and talent for design. I like them all but favor choice #2 the best. I like the soft blue/green accents as it reminds me of the sea. It is very similar to my own beach house on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Tina this is hard but somehow I am really drawn to 2. The colors remind me of the soothing ocean, I think its perfect.

Would love to know how this process works. Have a nice weekend.

Coice THREE. The loving room may appear too bland, unfinished if it is next to the nay/off white den. I love just a pop of navy here. It is bold yet subtle, a little edge to a “safe” neutral palette.

Oh my gosh this is so fun! I love the first and second one the best. I think number 2 would be my choice. Love the blue rug. I don’t like the checked rug in the other photos. Very nice ideas!

I really like Choice 1 – very calm and serene I feel there is an elegant casualness that I find appealing.

Hi Tina, I miss coming to your blog but started a new job that eats up all my fun time. I look forward to catching up with you.

I just love all of these but 1 and 2 really appeal to me. They are really calm, remind me of being near the ocean but aren’t too beachy, very elegant in a casual way. I love your take on beach house living!

Choice #2 and #3 are such close contenders… if I was forced to choose this second I’d choose 2, but 3 is also so appealing to me.

#3 for sure! I have a beach house in Florida and that strong sunlight washes everything out. Both #1 and #2 way too blah..need that punch of color.

Tina 1, 2 or 3 for me. I love navy but I think in this case I really like the subdued soft feeling of those boards, but truthfully they are all amazing. Great job, I bet shes so happy.

I love 1 and 2, but would definitely choose 2. It’s a bit fresher with the pop of color. Love the ottomans and lumbar pillows which add a punch as well. Where can I find the console table? I would love it in my house!

Hands down #2 for me! Love the subtle introduction of soft blues and sea foam greens. I absolutely love the serene feeling it invokes. Great job!

Great job, Tina. I would choose #2 with the Italianate console, blue and white ginger jars and white ottomans from #1 and the driftwood mirror from #3 and #4 for their rough/luxe juxtaposition. I would choose end table #1 on one side of the sofa and the stack of three (#3) on the other side. I would eliminate the ginger jar from the coffee table, since there would be a pair on my virtual console, and in its place I would put your lovely blue and white scalloped edge planter shown on the console in #4. I love all of them; this is just what I would do if it were mine. BTW, is your day longer than 24 hours? I don’t know how you get everything done. Have a great weekend.
XO, Victoria

You have done a superb job. I had to look carefully over each and its between 1 and 2. I do like the others but the first one is classic beach house, and love that its so neutral. I also really love 2, it reminds me of the sea and blue coastal skies. I would LOVE to have a beach house done like this! We owned a small charmer in Cape Cod for years and sold it three years ago when my youngest went off to college. We didn’t use it much. But I had it done up really cute. The colors in 2 are just so soothing and almost therapeutic to say “you are away”.

I think the idea of stacking tables and small ottomans that can be tucked under tables is a great idea. Trust me when you own a beach house, there is always someone unexpected showing up and you can never have too many tables or seats!

I need you! I would love you to come up with something like this for me, problem is we can’t get access to all the fabulous furniture you have over there, so I’d be stuck. I love all these moodboards. I would have any one of them in my house with great pride and joy! My particular favourite is #2 because it has more blue, but apart from that they are all fabulous. Love all your choices of furniture, your pieces of blue and white, orchids, rugs and everything. I am looking at your console setups and how lovely they look and wonder which of these would look best against my wallpaper – what do you think? Black, natural timer or dark timber?

Love them all but 3 is my favorite. Am a huge fan of navy and this has a classic, casual feel. Second choice is 1 but love the lamps in 4. Like you, blue and white makes me swoon!

2 is my fav, and i love the elements you’re pulling in here. the rug is my fav and keeps things airy. i would feel like i was living on a cloud–dreamy.

smiles to you, and bravo on landing this assignment!

michele

Hi Tina, I love choice 2 because it has the blue green tone that also brings in the ocean more and is my fav colour(: so I can’t even be objective… Ciao z

Hands down for me it’s #2. Love the neutral with the introduction of the light aqua, perfect. Not dull but with a smidgeon of beachy. Love love it.

Tina! How lovely to see you today! I am preparing to go to a bridal show today downtown where I was invited to go with one of my paper dresses!

I agree with you about the love translated on my post; too wild for me, but after 31 years of marriage, we find that the most gentle love is the best of all!

It was fun to translate from the French; I am always finding ways to be a tad “different.” Enjoy your weekend sweet friend! Anita

All of the choices are so pretty and beach-like. We’d perhaps add the pops of blue from #3 to #4! Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Tina!

I like the earth tone ones, especially the 4th one. The two arm chairs in the others are a little too formal for my taste at the beach. But our beach houses were very laid back in the out islands of the Bahamas where formal just didn’t fit with the lifestyle. However, not all beach houses are or should be laid back. It totally depends on where her house is.

She is very lucky to have your help with style Tina. There’s no way she can go wrong.
Sam

Can you tell me who the coffee table is made by, I really like it. I’m down in Houston.

what a wonderful project tina, congrats!

for me, in design, i take a quick glance then note what caught my eye initially. then i go back and study the choices. 80% of the time my instinct wins out.
love #2, lots!

Hi Tina, great job! I would definitely hire you in a heartbeat if I was lucky enough to still own my darling beach cottage. You have done such a great job.

I love 1 and 2 the most and do think the navy is a nice look but something about the first two evokes the calm qualities of the sea and coastal living. When you go to a beach house, it should be really relaxing and serene and both of those boards make me feel instantly calm. I would love to know which she ends up selecting. Have a nice weekend.

I love blue and white but I don’t love the blue and white pottery or the crystal or the fancy hurricane bases in a beach house. I see more casual accents – blue and green sea glass in a bowl or hurricane, handmade pottery, etc. I don’t care for the fancier console in the first example for the same reason, and heavier fabrics (chenille on one pillow?). I also feel the french chairs are a little formal. Perhaps a larger bergere type chair with more whitewashed wood?

Sunbrella makes many great fabrics! I just did a beach house using mostly indoor outdoor fabrics from Kravet/Sunbrella and it looks and will wear great. Lots of the same colors – neutrals and blues (more of an oceany blue) and sea glass greens. It was a more casual beach house – nantucket style – rather than a formal palm beach type place 😉

Oh I see that you used the bergeres with the wood surround in the first one – like those much better than those with the nailheads – a bit more casual and beachy to me.

Tina- have to say you are so talented! I love that you could take your classic style and imply it to beautiful coastal living. I am in love with 1 and 2 down to the smallest detail. I am sure your customer is very happy!

Tina all of these designs are wonderful but my favotire would be #1 with a little more color. The furniture is fabulous, but I think perhaps a little blue in the pillows and accessories would be my preference.

Enjoy your trip!!!

I like the first two choices. I love the carpet in the second grouping and the chairs from the first grouping…so I am not much help…I guess I like the neutrals with a dash of the pale sea blues added to the palette.

Definitely 2 for me. It has so much more interest and ‘life’ with the added splash of colour but all are gorgeous! Beverley

Tina,

These are all so gorgeous! She can’t go wrong with any of these. But I love navy and blue and white porcelain, so t #3or #4 for me!

xo, Alexandra
