Hi there…..haven’t done one of these in a long time! My weekend started off really busy? but? sadly hurt my knee again so had to miss my nieces graduation party, I was so upset as being in bed with a huge pack of ice, it was not the Sat. night I envisioned! But the rest and icing has paid off and I am feeling better today, but will be proceeding with extreme caution!? With a prom, graduation, sports dinner, and my sons graduation party, needless to say this is a busy week and I need to be in top form.? I was lucky to find some older drafts that had never gotten published to? help me see me through this busy week. I also have a Steals and Deals I am putting the finishing touches on that is not to be missed (hopefully tomorrow)!

One thing I am looking for is a new fragrance. Are you an “experimenter” or do you have your own “signature fragrance”? I like having that comfortable “go to” to rely on, the one that I know works well with my body chemistry, tried and true. My preference for 95% of the time is a light powdery fragrance. I love the smell of a freshly bathed baby….ahhh smells so good! That explains one of my choices below. So….I am all ears if you have a favorite scent, that would be considered light and musky/powder, please please please tell me about it.

We have a darling little store not far that carries all these really neat brands and a friend of mine had bought this amazing musk parfum for me there, I loved it so much that I kept buying it, I loved that it wasn’t available in many places so you can imagine my sadness when I waltzed in there to stock up and was told they had one bottle left and the company had closed!!!!! So not fair!!! I googled it and found two bottles of it and have not found it since:) Nothing has come close so here I am again looking…and hoping you might help.

This list of fragrances that worked well for me is kind of all over the map, J Low and Chanel hardly belong in the same sentence but they both smelled so good on me! I got compliments all the time. LOVE Harijuku Baby but it doesn’t seem to last as long as I would like, have had Cashmere Mist for a long time and Daisy is a newer purchase but I don’t love it. Jo Malone has the staying power that I want but somehow they smell very strong on me. Let’s just say you can smell me coming way before I enter the room:)? Chanel 5 is a classic and here to stay but a bit strong for me for everyday. So here is where you come in…I need your advice/input/suggestions!!

Come on…..talk to me. Tell me what you love to wear and if any of them are soft and powdery,? light and musky. Fingers crossed you might come up with my new signature fragrance. Thanks for stopping in! Be back tomorrow to announce the winner of the beautiful gloves from Angela’s Garden. If you didn’t add your name to the hat, click here. Have a wonderful day and start to your week.

D&G the one & D&G desire are very soft&powdery. I like to smell like a baby/old lady compact hybrid!! You must rest knee. Injured my leg 2 months ago & still virtually housebound due to re-injuries.

Tina so sorry to hear about your knee, glad you are feeling better, are you taking anti inflammatory meds? They really help and the rest and ice are the best things though I know not always easy!

I love fragrance and have many on my dressing table. My all time favorite is Cashmere by Donna Karan but I wear Flowerbomb a lot and also Rose by Bvlgari, which you would probably like because its a soft rose scented fragrance. Good luck it is amazing to me how different they can smell on different people.

Tina I hope your knee is better, very hard to get thorough that busy schedule if you are not feeling perfect so rest up.
I change a lot but Oscar by Oscar de la Renta is an old favorite. It smells really light and summery. There was one by Narcisco Rodriguez that I got a sample of that smelled really pretty, you might want to check that out. Let us know what you find!

Hi Tina! So sorry to hear about your knee. Hope you’re in tip-top shape for your son’s party. I have worn the same fragrance for 30 plus years – White Linen by Estee Lauder. Thank God they still make it because I don’t know anyone who wears it. In the winter, I recently bought Tom Ford’s Vanilla Tobacco. My #2 found it and I love it. Feel better soon and good luck this week working on all the party festivities!!

So sorry to learn about your knee, Tina. And at such unimportant time. Get better soon.
I am a Chanel No 5 girl too, and I love the Gardenia by Chanel too, but it is hard to find at times. I also like the old Ralph Lauren in the burgundy bottle for everyday. Feel better, sweet lady.
Teresa
xoxo

Tina, so sorry to hear that you re-injured your knee and had to miss out on some of the fun this weekend, that’s terrible! Have you ever tried perfumes from Frederick Malle or L’Artisan? They are a little harder to find (especially Frederick Malle, which I think is only available at Barneys in the states) but have lots of divine scents and have been staples on my dressing table for years. I just read that Balenciaga is coming out with a scent that Alexander Wang says is inspired by a walk in the rain in Paris (sounds good to me). Or how about the Audrey Hepburn classic L’Interdit by Givenchy?

Good luck with your search and take it easy this week! XOXO

Oh Tina, what a great way to get the Monday juices flowing! I have been ‘locked’ into Ralph Lauren’s Safari for an unknown amount of time now. My ‘signature fragrance’ if you will… Let’s hope it is never discontinued – I know I will panic with the choices and change.
Glad you are feeling better, have a wonderful week.

Hi Tina sorry to hear your knee is still playing up on you, my back is being very unkind to me at the moment being stuck at home and having limited movement can get to you after a while just keep looking after yourself. Perfumes… let’s see I love Chanel no. 5, Chanel No. 22 and Gardenia, how about Arpels and Van Cleef First or Givenchy L’ Intardit (hope I spelt that right), Miss Dior or Diorella. Have fun trying on perfumes. Till next time Regards Esther from Sydney.

First, I’d like to say that I really enjoy your blog — it’s a bright spot in my day! My very favorite perfume of all time is Trish McEvoy No. 9 Blackberry and Vanilla Musk. It’s not really powdery, but it is so fresh and clean, and my husband loves it. It has no synthetic ingredients, so it doesn’t give me a headache. There are other fragrances in her line, such as Sexy 9, that are also good. I hope your knee is better soon!

My dear Tina

Im so sorry for your knee…..you must rest, rest although it is so hard, I know.
You have your party to look forward to I do hope you get better… presto!

Have you tried ‘Ivoire’de Balmain, light and musky, or ‘Very Irresistible’ by Givenchy, a light florally one?

Perfumes dont last on me, so I have to wear a strong scent..Miracle by Lancome I love it

For many years I was a White Linen (Est?e Lauder) girl then one day it just didn’t seem to suit me anymore. I tired Happy Heart by Clinique and have never looked back. I have complete strangers stop me in the grocery stop and compliment. On a recent airline flight before I got off the plant the gentleman sitting next to me thanked me for the beautiful fragrance he enjoyed on the flight. To me, that means it’s a keeper.
Hope the knee gets better πŸ™‚

Yikes about the knee. Wise to rest and take it easy~wishing you a speedy recovery Tina. I have just been spritzing with Channel No. 5 and I don’t really think of it as heavy. That may be because I used to wear a Calvin Klein scent that was pretty strong. Sorry no advice from Boston on this one.

Tina, this is very first time leaving a comment. Ever. I have been reading my list of blogs for at least a couple of years and I have to say yours is one of my favourites. I have ‘ introduced ‘ quite a few friends to you too and they are very thankful.
To answer your question about perfumes may I recommend my own favourite perfume, Boucheron. I have tried quite a few others including delicious smelling ones that I have had to have while shopping in London and Paris. I mention those cities not to sound pretentious but because they have been home to me and I know where I am going to get the best selections. After wearing anything else for a time I always go back to Boucheron because frankly for me, it is me. Now if I may be a little forward and mention deodorant (anti-perspiration) nothing seems to beat Donna Karan’s Cashmere Mist. It is fantastic. It works, it smells wonderful and it compliments my Boucheron beautifully.

Just remembered in my opinion the ultimate baby powder fragrance is Guerlain Shalimar. (& as it’s comes in a vintage style bottle with a blue stopper it would delight all your senses!)

Tina, I hope your knee is going to feel great for all the upcoming events. Perfume….I adore Laura Ashley No. 1, they just brought it back after a decade, and it is a bit softer this time. I wear it day or night and on me. it has staying power but is not overwhelming. LOVE IT. Susan

So sorry to not to have signed my name. I didn’t mean to be ‘Anonymous’, I can only asked to be forgiven due to being new to leaving a comment. Francine

Hi Tina,

I adore Kai fragrance – it is tropical and summery, smells so lovely! I also like to wear Philosophy Baby Grace – which smells light and clean, like baby powder. Hope the knee feels better.

Hi!
I LOVE Amazing Grace by Philosophy. I smelled it on a friend at a super swanky black tie ball – I was sure she was wearing something totally obscure and expensive, but it’s available at Macy’s and other department stores! I went out the next day and bought it in every form. It smells like you just got out of the shower/a fresh baby/roses/powdery/musky… you MUST try it! Also, I think it smells different in different forms – the conditioner smells a little different from the perfume and the shampoo and the powder, etc… but they all smell the same after they’ve been on you for a bit. In fact, at the end of the day, I smell like I’ve just taken a bubble bath, plus my own pheromones sort of musk it up a bit. Amazing. I’d love to hear if you go try it and what you think! Let me know! πŸ™‚

Tina I change my fragrances with the seasons and go heavy in winter/fall. For summer I love Origins ginger essence and the one by Coach (pink bottle). Both are so light, try and get a sample and see what if you like them. Good luck with your knee, had ACL surgery last year, physical therapy is key, hope you get through all the days ahead pain free!

Amanda

So sorry to hear your knee is still flaring up, but happy the rest helped you in advance of this busy week you have. My two “go to” fragrances are Jo Malone Lime Basil Mandarin and Hermes Eau de Merveilles and Jardin Sur le Nil. One I love but haven’t actually purchased is Aerin Lauder’s Ikat Jasmine – my friend wears it and I compliment her every time I catch the scent.

Have an absolutely wonderful week with all your events! xoxo

I am in LOVE with Private collection Tuberose Gardenia from Estee Lauder, it is wonderful and eveyone loves it on me, please see if you like it. I also use gardenia rattan perfume from Aerin too. Lots of underlying scents in these. Heal quickly and stay rested, Beth

I just discovered Alien by Thierry Mugler. It gets me compliments all the time. It is soft but with staying power. Also you can refill the bottle.

I love and have used Issay Miyake for years. It has a lovely light scent thats perfect for every day. Love your blog and hope you are feelng better.

A few years back I bought Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker. Soft & flowery/summer fragrance I loved. I got compliments while wearing that one. I don’t wear perfume much as so many are allergic to it, but I also love Noir & Victoria from Victoria’s Secret. Love reading about all the other perfumes out there! Hope your knee feels better soon!

I have been a devotee of Cashmere Mist almost since it was launched back in – what, 1994 or 1995?

The scene: the week after Thanksgiving, Saks across from Rockefeller Center, having just left those snooty folks working at Bergdorf?s. I saw a crowd by the perfume counter, huddled around the most handsome man I have seen this side of my 30th birthday. His name was Enrico, an Italian baron, tall with eyes the color of milk chocolate. He was introducing us to Cashmere Mist. I bought one of everything.

That guy could have sold me dirt in a bucket.

Take care of that knee!

Angela

I sold fragrance for 10 years so there are many I have not tried. I have worn cashmere mist, and No. 5. For the summer I like Philosophy’s Pure Grace or Amazing Grace. Also, Prada Iris is lovely and it lasts without being to strong.
Happy Hunting
Diane

I too love Chanel no 5 but my all time favourite is Moulinard. I bought it in duty free in London many years ago and it is still my all time favourite.

Love Love Love my CHANEL Coco Mademoiselle – ” the irresistibly sexy scent, a fresh Oriental fragrance that recalls the irrepressible spirit of the young Coco Chanel.”

Also love my Niven Morgan Gold Scent perfume and fabulous hand cream – “Niven Morgan?s dreamy signature fragrance stirs sweet longings and fond memories with its warm top notes of vanilla and floral amber rising from a bouquet of rich Egyptian neroli and Italian bergamot blended in lusciously subtle aromas of sandalwood and musk. For the sensualist.”

Hi Tina,
Sorry to hear that you hurt your knee again. Hope you are better soon! Love this post because since I had my boys 14 years ago, my favorite, Chanel Cristalle, does not work for me. Never figured out if it was me or the perfume that changed. I keep buying and than not liking various perfumes. I prefer a clean, fresh scent. The only one that I have purchased more than once since than is Bvlgari Au The Blanc. Going to try a couple of the others than were recommended.

I have worn Jessica McClintock forever. It has a baby powdery scent that apparently sticks with me longer than any other. It doesn’t irritate migraine or sensitive noses. When it was discontinued I sent my family and friends on a mission to purchase any errant bottles. . It has always been the source of many compliments throughout these many years. I hope you can find this lovely perfume since it smells as you describe.

I’m so sorry that you re-injured your knee. Things like that always seem to happen at the most inopportune time! (Actually, there is no good time!) My favorite perfume is Aromatics Elixir by Clinique. I only use one small spray… it doesn’t take much. It’s been around for at least 40 years. I don’t wear perfume as much as I used to, but whenever I wear this Clinique perfume, I receive compliments. My second favorite is Chanel no.5.

What a busy time of year for you! I’m sending healing thoughts and love and light your way.
Fracas…supposedly Jackie O’s signature scent. Very powxery and heavy of white notes, so you have to love gardenias on this one
Bond no9 fragrances are my all time favorite. Powdery clean lovely goodness can be found in a few. I love Chelsea. All named after places in NY. Found only at Bond boutiques and Saks or Nordys

My mother and grandmother both wore Norell for decades and it was so nice have a scent associated with them. I started to wear it in my 20s but my husband didn’t love that I smelled like his mother in law! Now I love The One, Dolce &Gabanna.
Stacy

So sorry to hear about your knee. Hopefully you can rest some.
My go to perfumes are Flowerbomb and Flower by Kenzo. It’s such a wonderful light clean fragrance. It is kind of powdery so you might like it. I occasionally use different ones for Jo Malone.
I look forward to hearing about your new perfume selection!
Enjoy reading your blog so much!
Karin Hunt

I feel your pain, Tina. Literally. I’ve had an MRI and am now waiting to see a surgeon.
My go to scent has not changed in the last 15 years… Coco Chanel . Love it because it works so well with my body chemistry. I get so many compliments on it; even from strangers. It can be an overpowering perfume, so you can’t spray several times like you would with other perfumes. Self restraint is key here in respect for others.

Good luck with your knee – so miserable for you.
My all-time favourite is Mitsuoko by Guerlain. I have had so many compliments about it. Even when trudging through mud and rain (in UK!) while walking my dogs, people have asked me what it is!
Hope you find what you are looking for amongst all the suggestions left in comments.

I found a beautiful soft scent that is good year round it is Narciso Rodrigues For Her. Normally I have one for Summer and one for Winter but this is so pretty I use it anytime.

Hi Tina, my daytime fragrance that I use every day is Clarins Eau Dynamisante. It is a natural fragrance and does not ‘cloy’. I use Miss Dior for evening and special occasions and have done so for the past 45 years. I also love my husband’s Tiffany for men cologne atomiseur. Regret I find the American fragrances ‘synthethic’

Well.. I’m not much help here as my fragrances change seasonally. Currently I’m wearing JM and Erin L. fragrances. I agree that fragrances smell different on everyone so it’s tough to say what will work. I’ve also noticed that after a while, I tend to get tired of a certain fragrance and it no longer smells nice .. not sure why this happens πŸ˜‰ I’m always changing it up.

Noticed everyone’s comments and realized there are sooo many fragrances for so many moods and like life soo many different tastes…one not mentioned yet and one of my favorites is Jo Malone .. You can layer her scents according to your moods and the seasons., enjoy your weekend and I am going to break out and try some of your readers recommendations…also like Annik Quitsl..

Hi, Tina, well, I’m a bit late to the party and you probably have more advice on this subject than you ever wanted, but it’s a topic dear to my heart so I will fearlessly wade in. My favorite way to use any fragrance is via a lotion instead of a cologne. It controls the strength when you first apply it, and lasts longer on me than alcohol-based cologne or perfume. Favorites for summer: Antonia’s Flowers (original scent–smells just like honeysuckle to me, but they say it is freesia), Fresh Sugar, Atelier Orange Sanguine. For cooler weather, Trish McEvoy #9 (blackberry vanilla musk–delicious), Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir and Fresh Hesperides Grapefruit (I use them together), and Thierry Mugler Angel (not so much anymore, but I loved it in the past and still get in the mood for it now and then). Take care and thank you for your lovely blog.

Must agree with the other Philosophy “Grace” fans. Have gotten so many compliments for “Pure Grace”–my favorite–and have just been gifted with an “Amazing Grace” set which I also adore. “Pure Grace” reminds me of my grandmother’s face soap–so fresh and clean and lovely!

Chanel “Coco Mademoiselle” is my favorite! I get more compliments from men when I where this, love it!

If you love musk, then you would probably enjoy Aerin (as in Lauder) Amber Musk…it’s very lovely!

I have always been very fond of Burberry Brit and Burberry Body. Recently tried a sample of Dolce & Gabbana, it has a nice, light powdery fragrance. Just may have to add it to my fragrances to try more of. I don’t like heavy fragrances, but do want a fragrance that doesn’t seem to “disappear”. Love the way the “Bond” fragrances smell as well as Tom Ford, but omg, they are so pricey!

I am late to this party, but I’m putty in my two cents anyway. I have used Must de Cartier for decades and still love it. Recently I bought Angel by Thierry Mugler and La Vie est Belle by Lancome…both delicious.
Best…Victoria

No doubt you are a little overwhelmed with all the suggestions here Tina, but thought I would add my penny’s worth. I also love perfumes that smell clean and talc like. I wear Chanel No 5 in the evening but agree it is too heavy for the day. My daytime, light talcy fragrance is Nina Ricci’s L’Air du Temps. Just another one to add to your list to give a try. I also now have a long list of new perfumes to try so thank you for that. Good luck. Lisa xx
