Hi everyone! I am back and it was so nice to escape for a little getaway.? I am feeling totally refreshed and happy to be back at my desk:) As most of you know our house has been used a number of times for the hit series, Gotham. This is not a genre, I? personally love? but naturally we are drawn to it because its so much fun getting to see our house on TV! It’s dark but compelling, and it has won over so many people that they just signed for another full season.

So Gotham was back in full force, just think of a small village taking over. You really cannot get the full gist of what goes on unless you have lived through a movie shoot. It is I N S A N E! We? know what to expect now but this time it was a shoot that went until the wee hours of the morning so it was particularly nutty.

Yet it’s also very exciting, I cannot lie. So thought I would take you “behind the scenes” a little bit to show you what really goes on. You have no idea the amount of prep, manpower and equipment required to shoot even a short 10 min. scene…unreal!

I will let the pictures speak for themselves with very little narration except where there’s really something to tell. And here we go….

Having just had another snowstorm was no obstacle for Warner Brothers, they spent 2 days having people come to clear the roads and areas that they did not want the snow, the power of the movie biz! They amazed me in how they were still able to set up all the outdoor lights…..

The first step is protecting the house, it’s not pretty but it gets the job done!

And then the set crew moves in and starts working their magic….

My center foyer table was moved to use in the dining room as part of the backdrop

I found this to be totally fascinating, so to protect our floors and rug (rug was removed) they painted a huge paper floor to mimic our floor, their art dept is truly off the charts!

unpioiinamed unnam876ed

The floor in first picture (to the left) is their painted floor to match the right (my floor) and the second picture is their finished product!

The finished room. Fun to see my ginger jars getting a piece of the action:)

And this coffee table was created out of cardboard meant to look like one of mine, its a breakaway table (meant to break on scene)

And during the actual film shoot….total craziness but a fun crazy

A crew of about 90 requires a lot of food and drink!!!

The lighting was incredible…..all that just to create the right mood for an inside shoot

Yes there was even an ambulance, as there was a stuntman for a scene (sorry can’t tell you quite yet what happens:)

More cool lighting!

Mr. Teddy made himself the self appointed Gotham ambassador and made his rounds

This is a Gotham scene if I ever saw one

unna333333med unname656454d 232unnamed

And then they finally wrapped up in the wee hours of the morning, it amazes me how like a colony of bees, people come out of the woodwork to start “takedown” all the equipment is loaded up and hauled away, then clean up day follows the following day

unna3322med

Cleaning up never felt so good!!!! Ahh….peace is being restored

And that’s a wrap! It is a tremendous undertaking and I do not say that lightly!

I will be sure to let you know when this episodes airs (sometimes in April). I will also find some of the other scenes and share them with you from the more recent episode. Here are? a few from the original in case you missed it-

So there you? go, a little of the inside scoop into what goes on during filming. I enjoy the entire process and getting to see it up close and personal but I will not lie, once the clean up day comes I am a happy camper!? Thank you for stopping by. Hope you have a great day. Until next time…..

This post is sooo interesting! You are a brave soul to let them dismantle your house like that. Thanks for sharing.

That is amazing, Tina. I cannot believe all that they do. What a fun process to watch, but like you, I would be happy when everything was back in its place. I’m going to have to start watching Gotham now, just to see your house – so fun!!! Happy Thursday!

Wow, that was so interesting, I had no idea how much work and upheaval of your home and belongings would be involved. It looks like they took tremendous care though of your beautiful home. It must have felt so good to have everything back in its place once it was over. Thanks again for sharing Tina. Ps love Mr Teddy

Your post is so interesting and exciting. Thanks for sharing. You must now be very happy to have your home back in order. I will have to watch Gotham just to see your beautiful home. Your dog Teddy probably enjoyed all the action and attention. All the best to you Tina. I hope your snow will melt soon.

Part of my work about 15 years ago coordinated with the film industry. Until you are witnessing this process it is hard for people to understand how much goes in to the filming. There was an enormous amount of work before they even got to your house as well. Striking the set is quick and it always amazes me how they put everything back in order so well. They take stills of every corner and vignette to put it back the same way.
So much fun – and your house is perfect for shots…. albeit transformed into something a bit darker in character.

Hi Tina I am on my pphone at work…not the best place to write how excited I am to see your house here! Love it all anita

Like you, I’m not a fan of Gotham. But I did watch a couple of times just to see your house. What a great opportunity for your family, and a cool story to tell your grandkids one day! But I’m sure it feels great to get your house back!

Tina, it truly is astounding how they manage to come in, take over and then leave everything as if they had never been there!
How fun to have Gotham filmed at your home!

That is amazing to see. But you are very brave letting them dismantle all of your beautiful things. I loved seeing more details of your fabulous home. Like that gorgous rug blue rug in living room. The color and design are gorgeous. Your boys must enjoy seeing their home on national TV.

What a treat to see the behind the scenes of a film shoot! I will always have a visual impression when watching similar scenes as to the details the crew went through to execute the filming. I am so impressed with the care they take to preserve all your beautiful furniture and home. My daughter loves the show and it has been fun to know some of the back story with the filming at your house. You are always so great in presenting a story line. Thanks for sharing!

Absolutely AHHH-MAZING! Fascinating and scary at the same time. Such a beautiful home and such organized havoc. The outdoor tree lighting is gorgeous. The painted floor? Oh my goodness.

This is so interesting Tina! It’s kinda like those rock bands.. they travel and are self contained with a crew to accomplish every task. I watched the show a couple times and both times I was having a difficult time recognizing the house .. and then I saw ginger jars! πŸ˜‰ You know I’m a dog lover and Teddy is so cute. He just thinks that you are having a party for him! They enjoy all the activity and I’m sure the crew gave him lots of attention;)

So much fun to see behind the scenes. Thanks for sharing it with us. (Shh; don’t tell the TV people, but I only watch the show to see your house. πŸ˜‰

Started watching since you told us your home would be featured. You are a brave soul bless your heart!!!!!

Woweeeee that’s amazing! I really enjoyed the sneak peek into how they set up for a shoot…thanks!

Just a curious question…..do they take pictures of everything, how your tabletops are decorated, mantles, etc are decorated and then put everything back for you?

Wow! Than you for sharing; I had no idea all that work goes into filming. How exciting!! Of course, they love your beautiful home. We all do!!

Hi Tina, This post was so riveting. Several years ago, my house had a photo shoot for the opening of a new Bed Bath and Beyond store. It was quite a undertaking, with a crew arriving from NYC. The entire house was upside down, with cables snaking everywhere. A luncheon for the workers was set up in the garage with little tables to eat at set up in the courtyard. It was a lot of fun, but like you said, very involved. I learned a lot. The stars of the commercial were pampered as movie stars!!

How fun and now we know why movies cost so much! Wouldn’t you love to keep that “fake” floor for your own parties? The crews truly are amazing. Thanks for sharing this fun event.

wow – so interesting! I’ve had conversations with location manager and set designer for another TV series but your post brings to life all that I’ve heard. thank you!

What a process! They were very very fortunate you agreed to do this, Tina. And, the evocativeness of what they shot definitely appears to be from that era. I tried to watch the show in the beginning but the crazy guy freaked me out so much I had to change the channel. I know you know what I mean. xx’s

Wow! They’re back again! I’m so glad that they take great care of your house! I only watched to see you home, but had to fast forward the other scenes because the show is too dark for me. But your home looks AMAZING in it! Let us know when it airs so that I can see your house in it okay! XO

Woah. That’s a lot of moving parts going on at once. Every so often, movies are filmed in my neighborhood for water scenes. So I know what you mean about the magnitude. I have to give you credit. No way would I be able to turn my house over like that!

Hi Tina, Welcome Back! Thanks for the inside peek into the Gotham action – I haven’t really gotten into the show, but did watch some that was previously shot at your house just to see- it was so much fun because it was not too long after being there for lunch! It is just amazing all the work that goes on to make just a bit of final cut footage. That they made a paper floor is just unbelievable! (Really glad they are taking such good care of your house, though). But I think my favorite thing is that your blue and white is in the shot – I’ll have to watch just to pick out that little Easter Egg!

Happy Spring and Happy Weekend to you. Did I hear something about snow? Unreal. Hope it’s lovely anyway! XOXO

Tina,
Having spent many years in Fashion, the behind the scenes sure is not glam and it takes stamina and vision to make it happen. Love to know what they snacks were, we always had great food that made the all night fashion show line-up worthwhile.
I was cringing at how they dismantled your perfect home but it is all part of “show-biz” and how cool that you are doing this and sharing it.
It shows how fleeting life is and stuff. They take it down, put it all back and you never know they were there.

Hi Tina!!!

I’ve been watching “Gotham” on Netflix for the first time these last few nights. When I first saw a scene with the character “Liza” and the bald gentleman in the kitchen I immediately thought to myself how much that kitchen resembled yours down to the blue and white pottery. Than I kept seeing other rooms that reminded me of your home. Finally, when the scene where the character Barbara visits her parents came on I had not doubt that it was your home. What a great honor. I am on episode 14 so far and don’t want it to end. Love this series and seeing your home in it was a bonus. Congratulations. I hope all is well with you and your loved ones. Happy Holidays.
