Hello, calling all incurable blue and white lovers!! If there is one thing I feel like I have gotten really good at, it’s setting a blue and white table. Lordy knows I have set my share:)  I recently set this table and loved it so much I kept it this way. I have vowed to start hosting more frequent dinner parties, I love an intimate dinner party with say 8-10 people ideally. Good food, great wine, an intimate setting where everyone gets a chance to talk, candlelight, nice music….does it get any better?

The blue and white setting next to the beautiful new etched pieces was really striking and once the candles were lit, it was incredible. To me, nothing is as pretty as a beautiful set dining table though it’s a room we rarely use, I am trying to change that.

I am hoping to plan at least 3-4 dinner parties at home and going to plan them in advance so I know that I am committing to them. Plus there is something about hosting a dinner party in the fall or early winter, when the weather is crisp and cold outside, and you light the fireplace inside:)  Everyone talks about how much they love a dinner party at home, but few rarely do it. Why, I wonder? And yes, I include myself in that group but that is changing:)  And hopefully I will be sharing with you many more dinner table settings come fall/winter. So here’s a look at that table…..

Went out and cut a bunch of the White Annabelle hydrangeas and put them in our open field chunky ginger jar

Love my blue Mikado dinnerware from Royal Crown Derby

How pretty are those hydrangeas!! Was happy to get to use some

And how gorgeous is the new etched hurricanes? In love!

Those are the new tall pagoda salt and peppers, offered in two colors- silver and antique brass

Here used the beautiful pagoda flatware, such a classic

How cute are these little bud vases at each place setting? It’s the little things that count:)

The china, silver and crystal mixed in so beautifully!

I like mixing glassware, these crystal antique wine glasses were mixed with my etched water goblets

Love and use all the time, the beautiful scalloped silver chargers, so elegant

I would enjoy dining at your table. The table setting, the flowers, candlelight, great food and wine and the main event, lively conversation. How to appreciate the finer details should not be forgotten.

Just beautiful! Seems so many nowadays don’t invest in the time to make a lovely table-setting and dining with friends anymore. Such a shame. I’m old-school enough to still love using my fine china and crystal with friends; it makes for fond memories.

Everything is beautiful! I live in Florida and we did away with our dining room. We used to do formal entertaining, but now in our mid 50’s, we entertain casually. All of our dinners are eaten outside, even Christmas. It is casual and relaxed, but everyone seems to enjoy it so much more! Now, I say we live on island time! Hahaha I think it is important to entertain according to where you live.

absolutely beautiful. You have inspired me to have a dinner party. When you have one and share your pictures plz include the menu too. Since we go out to eat most of the time I have forgotten what I used to serve when I did entertain ?

I used to host dinner parties more often, but have not been entertaining as much any more. It’s easier to meet friends and relatives at a fine dining restaurant. I’m from the generation that had dinner parties at home and enjoyed planning it.( My mother entertained a lot and I would set her table ” picture perfect! “) Now, I host one or two dinner parties in the Fall, and again at Christmas time. I used to have a crowd over for Easter, but no longer. I stopped hosting during the summer because it’s too hot! Your table setting is picture perfect and I can tell how much pride you take in setting up and that’s a wonderful thing. Kudos to you!

Gorgeous setting (as always!). Yes, I do host dinner parties often and I couldn’t agree with you more! Love having Great friends over where everyone can just enjoy a fabulous meal, great conversation and of course, food and wine! I think it’s just so lovely having people in your home and I love to entertain! Any excuse to throw a party is a great one for me!

Always Blue & White for my table settings! With my Blue Willow dinnerware, I can design a variety of settings by a choice of linens and seasonal centerpieces, either to play up the basic color or to provide contrast. Right now, it’s blue hydrangeas in an old ice bucket made of hammered aluminum, flanked by a pair of pewter candle holders with vanilla candles (color as well as scent).

You do set a beautiful table! My only problem is tall flower arrangements mean no one can converse across the table. Especially with a group of 8-10 when you can have larger number of guests in a conversations rather than just the person left or right. I love your blog and have followed almost since you started it. I do not mean to offend you with my comment.

Love the Mikado China (antique ones because they are so much more delicate then ones made in later years). I’ve been using mine pretty exclusively for Christmas dinner the last few years. Always makes me stand back for a few minutes and admire. Sometimes with a low arrangement of red roses but usually white. I LOVE China and have a few sets ? and have to stop myself from buying more.

What a beautiful table ! I love your etched glass pieces and have a pair of the hurricanes. Now I am thinking I may need this new style too!

Tina, speaking of beautiful you are absolutely gorgeous ! I am so happy that I am getting to see what you look like on Instagram, I knew that whoever was behind this beautiful blog had to be pretty special ?

You certainly know how to set a lovely table, Tina! I love having intimate autumn dinner parties and of course, all blue and white with orange accents.
For my menu I refer to those found in my cherished collection of Colonial Home magazines. Not only are their recipes inspiring but their table settings as well.
I have purchased many items from your shop that are used for my dinner parties. Looks like I need some etched hurricane
?
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing this pretty table- you are inspiring me to plan a dinner party! Maybe you would consider for those of us not as talented at entertaining some great menu suggestions that are not too difficult ha ha

I have loved to have dinner parties for the almost 50 years we have been married.. It is so fun to set the table with beautiful flowers, china, crystal and silverware, but have the guests come casual and comfortable. It makes for a wonderful relaxing evening. However, if I buy one more set of china or crystal I think my husband will think I have lost my mind. But there are so many pretty pieces out there yet to discover!

We used to entertain in our home for many years when my husband was a military officer. It was difficult then with small children to keep the house clean and have time to try and make fancy recipes, too. Now I’m in my mid 70’s and I have plenty of time but some back pain issues make cleaning and cooking more difficult. Over the years, though, I’ve acquired several sets of china and enjoy setting a beautiful dining table. One of my favorite sets are my brown Spode turkey plates. HomeGoods used to carry these plates and other beautiful patterns during the Holidays. It seems the easiest way to entertain these days, however, is to meet friends at a nearby restaurant. Judging from how full the restaurants all are, it looks like other people feel the same way!

Good evening Tina,

Beautiful table setting! I am sure that all of your guests will love it.

I love to entertain and host brunches, luncheons, suppers, and dinner parties all the time. It is so much fun to decorate the table and use things I have collected over a lifetime.

Your table setting is lovely.
My husband and I do a lot of entertaining. We use our Silverware, silver chargers, China and crystal. Our dinner parties are usually 6-12 people. I really enjoy a beautifully set table. It can be a lot of work, but it is all worth it. Our friends feel special. (We hand wash our silverware, china, crystal etc.) We are of the mind set to keep ourselves connected with our friends and this keeps us happy and fulfilled. Our sons, now in their 30’s, love when we have our friends over and enjoy being part of the social gatherings.

This table speaks to my spirit!!! It’s amazing!!! All I could ask is where are your scalloped chargers from?
