Hi there……As many of you know my much anticipated southern road trip did not happen. Something came up on my sisters end that did not allow us to adhere to the planned out schedule and by the time we could it was too late, the window had narrowed and we didn’t enough time to do all we had set out to do. However, lest you be feeling sorry for me….this is not by an means, a done deal. Oh, we are going to go, that much you can be sure about…when I am not sure, but hopefully sometime in the fall. And maybe all is not lost as many have suggested, the weather will be a lot more pleasant, so…… to be continued!

We decided to go to  Richmond, Williamsburg, Charlottesville and DC again. We covered a lot of territory in just four days I must say!  All places I have been before but that never get old. I so enjoyed taking tours of various beautiful old southern neighborhoods, exploring tons of great shops and antique stores, meeting people along the way and having a bunch of great meals (and a few not so great for good measure lol)! I must say, there really is something to be said for these beautiful places…..wonderful people, a great quality of life, a life a bit less hurried than where I am from (DC is not included in this statement) and I enjoyed this little getaway immensely! So here is a photo recap of what we saw and did…..

Very picture heavy……….. could take some time to go through!

 Beautiful charming Williamsburg……

Fell in love with the monogrammed insignia of William and Mary College!!

Yes, my blue and white radar was on high alert!!

 Williamsburg is truly picture perfect……

 And then in Richmond…..

Visited the University of Richmond…..

And of course did the obligatory house tours…… (which most certainly did not disappoint)!

Still with me? Let’s keep going…..and in lovely Charlottesville……

Started with breakfast at this old timer diner/breakfast place….

Onto the uber pretty and charming pedestrian mall…..

The entire area is surrounded by the most beautiful rolling hills……

These two cute dudes caught my attention……

A view of the rotunda at UVA never gets old…..

Loved the Williamsburg Signature shop……

We had lunch at the famous Tobacco Company in Richmond, beautiful building with a lot of history and the food was excellent!! Highly recommend……

And some shopping highlights (of which there were many)……I mean what’s a road trip without shopping! We hit just about every antique shop in Charlottesville and let me tell you there were many wonderful places worth a “revisit”!

 LOVE the Caspari store……

Thought this fabric would make great breakfast room chairs!

Bought these for my guest room……

LOVED And George….(my sister said she felt like she was walking into my house when she walked in), great store indeed:)

Another gorgeous antique shop filled with old and new…..

UVA reminders are everywhere……

And a few of the beautiful goodies I came home with……

These beauties are going in my main powder room, love love love them!

Always on the prowl for beautiful covered silver dishes, after a good polish, this will be a beauty!

Seriously…how could I NOT buy these? They had my name all over them:)

And there is more but figured this is more than enough for now. Hope you enjoyed coming along with me on my little road trip. It was such fun. I really love those areas and will absolutely be back. If you are one of my readers that happens to live there….all I can say is lucky you!

Thanks so much for stopping in. Wishing you a wonderful Friday and great end to your week……..

You were in my neck of the woods (Richmond) and I love being able to take day trips to Williamsburg and Charlottesville. Some of the shops you posted about are also my favorites…looks like you had a wonderful trip!!!

Hi Tina, what a fun trip! I love Charlottesville too. So many great shops, and fun restaurants. I love your highlights you definitely have an eye for beauty.

Your prints for your bathroom are so beautiful. And always love a good house tour!

Tina… great photos. I just love Williamsburg and Charlottesville. I’m headed that way in a couple of weeks when I am taking #2 to W&L. That area of the country is so much prettier that Texas. Hope you have a great weekend. PS…Love the planters you bought.

Tina – thanks for the photos. They have such a southern flavor. I went to school in Savannah for a few years, and I was waiting to see what your reaction to the “Old Grande Dame” was going to be… The fall is probably better to go anyway… not so hot and steamy…

regards,
Emily @ Town And Country Shuffle

Patrick and I lived in Williamsburg while he was getting his Master’s Degree right after college. What a fun place to live, either when you’re young like we were, or have a lot of money (we didn’t!). It was too hot for me there, but I have very, very fond memories!

Just what I needed! We moved from Yorktown (just south of Williamsburg) 3 yrs ago and now in Florida (retired). I have been thinking about the Marketplace in Williamsburg that I used to frequent often. I was so happy to see the photos, and I got my tour this morning! I used to work and spend a lot of time in Richmond, so nice to see those photos too, love Monument Ave! I have been in a lot of the renos in the Fan district too. NICE of you to share photos!

Forgot to mention, I MISS the Trellis restaurant! I went there often for lunch and snack with tea in the outdoor area. Great people watching spot! I have been in all those shops many times and have things in my home from there.

Tina- great pictures. I think we need to take another trip to that area, my husband went to law school in DC so we spent lots of time there (and I do not miss the traffic and congestion but do miss the culture and restaurants). We used to take weekend trips to Charlottesville and loved it. Such a charming wonderful city. This brings back great memories. Loved it all.

Good morning Tina! I love all the photos…they remind me of all my favorite Virginia places. As you know I am a military brat and moved around a bit, but I lived the vast majority of my life in the lovely commonwealth of Virginia. Williamsburg is so gorgeous…I could (and have) spent days there. I am such a sucker for classic interiors! I don’t know Richmond as well, but it is funny you mentioned The Tobacco Company because we always ate there when we were in Richmond (and this was 25 years ago)…it must be good if it has last this long. The photographs of the homes are gorgeous! Don’t even get me going on Charlottesville – you know how I love that place – Wahoo Wa!! It sounds like you definitely made lemonade out of lemons and had a great trip. I do hope you still get to go on your Southern road trip, though.

Have a lovely weekend, Tina! We are off to Saratoga for the races this weekend…it is an annual ritual that we always enjoy. xoxo

Wonderful photos! I feel like I am there with you! I love all of the huge boxwood balls in the landscaping in that area.

Okay Tina:) I definitely do NOT feel sorry for you;) Looks like a wonderful getaway and aren’t those shorter trips the best? They give us the break we need and we come back fresh and rejuvenated. There’s nothing like that Southern feel to the interior/exterior of a home. Beautiful spots you found to shop and I think I would have spent a small fortune had I gone with you. Williamsburg is a must see .. such a lovely spot. My SIL lives near Charlottesville and has been begging me to visit and we can’t wait to go. Thanks for sharing your pictures:) Enjoy your day!

Oh what a picture perfect travelogue! Thank you for sharing these beautiful images with us. I would love to go and visit one day. Have a great weekend!

Thank you for sharing your trip Tina. Beautiful as always. We’ve been to Williamsburg countless times and it’s one of my favorite places to visit. It never gets old (no pun intended!). Our youngest looked at William & Mary and we kept our fingers crossed, but Harvard got ahold of him so Boston it is. Your pictures take my breath away, literally. I find that when I see something truly beautiful and exciting, I get short of breath. This happens regularly when I read your blog. Please tell me I’m not alone! It’s been a while since we’ve been South, but seeing your pictures just makes me want to get in the car and go! Thank you again. I look forward to the rest of the pictures. Enjoy your day.

How Fun! I loved all of your photos and can tell you have the time of your life! You and your sister created beautiful memories! Love your finds and I’m glad you’re back! I missed you! 🙂

LOVE LOVE LOVE this post! Loved it all, but Charlottesville is my favorite. I miss going there several times a year. When my son was at UVA we went as often as we could. Thank you!

i started my career at FS SChumacher in NYC…
did you know they are the only company
that makes copies of the original williamsburg fabrics?

beautiful post as always

Loved seeing all these gorgeous spots!! Spent many a day in Williamsburg when my daughter was at W and M….Richmond then became one of our favorite stops going back and forth to New Jersey…we try to go every year at Christmas and stay at the Jefferson Hotel…but we never venture too far out…this year I would like to do more sightseeing…can you tell me a little something about the house tours you went on when you were there? Thanks for any info….

You spent some time in a couple of my favorite spots, Williamsburg and DC. Did a college visit at William & Mary (she did not choose it for her school) and my Dad is buried in Arlington so we try and get back to DC as often as possible. Add West Point to one of our east coast favorites, beautiful campus and amazing little town. You captured it all beautifully, thanks for sharing.

What a fabulous trip! Beautiful photos. I love the architecture in Williamsburg. So gracious and stately. I hope you made it to Kenny Ball Antiques in Charlottesville – one of my favorites! Love your treasures, especially the set of 4 prints.

Tina- you could give guided tours with your eye for all the beautiful things, stores, architecture and I am sure restaurants too. Glad you got to get away, even if it wasn’t part of the original road trip plan. You chose beautiful cities that have a lot of grace and charm. The architecture is so gorgeous. I really miss the beautiful homes of the south-sigh.

Bridgette in Arizona

You certainly covered a lot of territory in a few days. I love Charlottesville and a tour of UVA never gets old – spectacular architecture. Love all of your goodies…can never pass up a beautiful piece of silver- happy weekend!!

Hi Tina:
Love all of your photos— brings back so many memories of Williamsburg– Our oldest daughter got her Masters in Museum Education at William and Mary and she worked for Colonial Williamsburg foundation for two years in the De Witt Wallace decorative arts museum. I hope you got a chance to go there for a tour. It is about a half block over behind the craft house which on Duke of Gloucester Street. When our children were growing up we would spend a month in Williamsburg every summer– such fun.

Tina, What a heavenly trip! I’ve spent way too much time today pouring through your photos. They make me want to book a trip today to Williamsburg and then travel on to Charlottesville and Richmond. Please, please let me know where The Williamsburg Signature Shop is located—it’s among the Charlottesville photos so I wonder if it is there. I can’t find the shop mentioned by googling it. Thanks for sharing the homes, the colleges, the shops and the scenery with us! Nancy

Oh my gosh, Tina…My hat is off to you for downloading and saving and posting all of these pictures…I know…the time that took. Looks like a fabulous trip with tons of great inspiration! Have a great weekend. Mona

Almost feel like I was there. You picked all the beautiful spots, Tina and this makes me wish I was going back. Love Charlottesville.

loved the tour of those incredible homes, tina! omg, so much inspiration from those traditional classic structures.

no prob about the postponed trip to the south. now you’ll have time to work me into the travel plans. i have never been to charleston (may be heading there next month tho), so i’ll be no help at all getting us around, but i can snap photos of you two.

enjoy the weekend!

michele

Charlottesville is my very favorite place on earth. Tell us more about those sweet little chinoiserie pictures. They remind me of my Harrison Howard prints, only smaller. Love them! What a great find.

Well Sunday is my day off, so I get to blog hop! And I have to say I was thrilled to go on this trip with you….the highlight was looking at all the shops!! I love fabric shops and that bolt of blue fabric was divine. I used to be a fabric-aholic!. All the antique shops were wonderful, and its interesting to me to see how each shopkeeper puts their own spin on merchandise. The Caspari store was a delight to the senses, and I really think I like the shops that mix old and new best.

I absolutely love that house in Richmond with the blue shutters! And this was a great primer – We are taking our daughter to see UVA, University of Richmond, and William and Mary in April – what I am most looking forward to is shopping in Charlottesville and now I know where to start! 😉
xo,
Phyllis

Loved your travelogue! Now I’ll have to visit Williamsburg this fall instead of Paris! We were fortunate to visit one summer when the boys were younger and to this day when we’re describing oppressive heat and humidity (which in SoCal we rarely have either combined) we say, “Williamsburg hot or just hot?” Nothing has ever compared. lol!

The monogram is one of the prettiest I’ve seen. Did you purchase the glasses just so you could have them on hand to gaze at? I love collecting glassware that mismatches but has a story. And I know you will take that trip again! Thanks for sharing. And I’m serious about changing my travel plans after seeing your photos. I have such a hankering for Williamsburg now.

Tina, your mini-road trip looks like a lot of fun with family and shopping. I never tire of Richmond, was just there myself a few weeks ago and at at the Tabacco Company for the first time. Charlottesville and Williamsburg are picture perfect and always a wonderful place to visit.

I cannot wait to see more from your trip. I love everything that you purchased for your home.

Have a great week, Elizabeth

Loved your pictures. I live a 45 minute drive south of Williamsburg. I have spent MANY days traveling up there. I adore Williamsburg. It never gets old. My maternal ancestors are from the Charlottesville area, and moved into the Shenandoah Valley. My Dad was a UVA grad and law student. You were traveling in my neck of the woods for sure. I love Virginia and so proud to call it home.

Tina,
I feel like that is where I belong! The beautiful, gracious South. I secretly hope that my boys will decide to attend one of those colleges you mentioned…and I have a long way to go before that happens.

The homes, the towns..And George!!!

I know it was an abbreviated trip….but it looks like you had some serious highlight!
xoxo Elizabeth

It made me want to cry looking at those beautiful shops with all those stunning homewares and b&w china! Looks like a wonderful trip. My list of places to visit in the US is growing…

Well…glad to know you did not make it to Atlanta…and we missed each other! On the other hand….it looks like you still had a great tip to those areas!
