Hi there, hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. After a rough week, The weekend has gotten better. We joined friends on their beautiful boat and sailed to CT for dinner, on Sat had the pleasure to having lunch with my daughter in law, dinner plans and today, its all about pickleball! Trying to make up for the time I lost not playing while on my trip. Its going to be hot, but thankfully not as humid.

Hope whatever you are up to is fun and relaxing. Onwards to my post today…

1 MY GARDEN IS SENDING MIXED SIGNALS. I was so upset to return from Italy and see so many of my tomatoes gone, vanished into thin air. Either the deer are hoping the fence and having a feast or the birds are swooping in and stealing my tomatoes. There are still some left (though nothing compared to what was there) some plants, some showing some promise but I cannot tell you how upset I am. On the other hand, my herbs, zucchini, basil and cucumbers have thrived. Sure wish they liked the herbs the way they do my juicy tomatoes. Any tips out there?

And though the zucchini are basilica done, we got a nice amount of them and still have a few left

the tomatoes however have seen better days. I spent some time cutting all the yellow leaves/branches and was happy to see there are a decent number of tomatoes on the vine, nothing like before but there a little sliver of hope

Gardenias in full bloom and doing great

2 FAVORITE CINOIUSERIE TOLE PEICES JUST ARRIVED! Thrilled to announce we are getting back in stock (Tuesday) all of our chinoiserie tole murals, some of our tray tables and our Provence planters, which we have been sold out of for a while. We will hold an arrival sale on these this week so stay tuned. Though we are about to undergo our home  renovation, I am so tempted to bring a pair home, have two places where I wanted to use these, but it will likely have to wait…..

3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST So much to love this weekend!

4 CASTOR OIL FOR EYES At night I often go on TikTok (just for kicks) there’s a bunch of people on there that I enjoy following for cooking and sometimes product recommendations . Seems castor oil is all the rage right now for a host of things, including puffiness under the eyes. It is antibacterial and antimicrobial so its considered to be a natural healer for many things.

With my horrible sleep pattern, I often wake up with puffiness so I have been using this for under a week. No real difference yet but am told it can take about 4 weeks so will keep you posted I also bought collagen and have started taking that. It surely cannot hurt, don’t love the scent but am certainly willing to give this a go. Anyone else tried this?

Here is the link to the one I purchased

5 A BEAUTIFUL HOUSE TOUR This was a fun tour in beautiful Palm Beach. I loved her attention to detail, and am in love with the outdoor spaces and beautiful lattice covered room. She did not miss out adding her touch to a single inch of this house. Love the houses’s name and even spotted one of my silver pieces in her cabinet:)  Not every last thing is my taste but I appreciate her attention to detail and there were a lot of good takeaways in my opinion…

6 GOING ON A BOOK BINGE I used to be an avid reader then I started a business and books fell to the wayside. However I will never forget the joy and escape that reading provides, especially a really good book! So I went into a charming local book shop near me to buy a few gifts the other day and walked out with a few reading books for myself:)

I know the first one will be an easy and entertaining read as are all her books,  I love  Elin Hilderbrand’s books and have read several in the past.  This is her last book on Nantucket (the name is fitting), truly the end of an era! In case you are curious about that decision click here to read a short interview at The NY Times. She is the queen of Nantucket books and I haven’t read one I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. I have been told this one is another winner. Now, I need to carve out time to get these books read!

The second came very highly  recommended, curious if anyone has read either….

7 SUNDAY’S SEVEN Is tipping at places like Sweetgreens, Starbucks, supermarket (and other places where you pick up food/coffee)  getting out of hand or at least the expectation to tip? I mean, if it’s not tipping, then they are asking for you to donate to a charity or cause, often ones I don’t know about. I have a few we regularly give to because I really believe in those charities and know where my money goes. In most cases, I have no idea what these charities even are. As far as tipping, I tend. to be a generous tipper in places like restaurants because I recognize the value of what they do and how hard they typically work.

Lately,  I feel like I cannot check out without a prompt to either leave a tip (for someone getting me a cup of coffee?) or asking me to donate. I often will donate a small amount, though most of the time, have no idea who I am donating to because I don’t want to hold up the line to inquire about the charity, but I do think its getting out of hand. Anyone else? Curious as to what you think!

Back in the day I was a server earning $3.30 per hour so was dependent on those tips. I tip 20-25% at sit down
restaurants and a minimum of $5.00 (all cash). I refuse to tip Starbucks or otherwise clerks because they are
making somewhere around $16.00 plus.

As far as charity goes, I send monthly amounts to my local food pantry and a few others. I will not contribute
to anything otherwise.

Hope you enjoy your two novels! I have read all of Elin Hilderbrand’s books and honestly Swan Song is one of my least favorites!

Hi,
I would recommend reading Brooklyn before Long Island because that’s where this story starts. Toibin is a superb writer. I think you’ll enjoy them.❤️

ALWAYS!! I see you got a nice compliment/recommendation from “Tartan Topiary!” Enjoy!!

The whole tipping system needs to be replaced with a livable pay structure. I always tip — service sector workers aren’t paid enough where we live.

Requests for donations are ownership’s way of asking us to fund their tax write-off. I’ll give directly rather than being a pass-through for them. If there’s time, I ask the employee if they get evaluated on how many donations they “collect” and will make one if that’s the case.

Both tipping and donations are a sign of system failure. We shouldn’t need either. There’s enough for everyone, and we don’t have the moral courage to distribute wealth equitably and fairly.

Mice and rats were what were stealing our tomatoes. No birds or deer. Tomcat traps had us catching them daily!

Oh Lord you’ve started my nerves jumping with this whole tipping thing!
I believe in tipping at restaurants-and only there. Not take out..the sushi person is paid to cut and roll and the price of containers are included in the price…am i tipping them to hand me my pkg…..for handling my money? not drive thru ( I occasionally will tip the student at Starbucks) and what happened to the golden rule at the hairdressers? The owner never gets tipped only their workers?

You might like “Summers at the Saint” by Mary Kay Andrews. To me, the resort hotel is modeled after The Cloister on St. Simon’s Island on the coast of Georgia. This is her latest book, I have read and enjoyed all of them!

Absolutely NO to donating! Who is getting your money??? I use to donate freely but stopped. I will buy for anyone in need. Just gave lady baby clothes I bought for little baby this week. But I did wonder why she couldn’t afford to buy the baby clothes….my heart was for baby!

On the tipping thing…I read that some establishments don’t even give the tips to employees. I do think it has gotten out of hand. Just say no! If you give, they win and will keep doing it.
By the way…love my pillow order! Please make this something you do every year.

LOVE Jessica LaGrange’s house in Palm Beach! OMG — 7 guestrooms??? (5 in the house + 2 in guest house). I love how she mixes things up and does not stick to one style. She also has a Homeworthy visit on youtube for her Chicago apartment which is gorgeous!!! Sounds weird, but the kitchen is black and it is to die for. Thanks Tina for bringing this Palm Beach video to light.

Tipping is definitely out of control in today’s society. I tip well when I’m at a restaurant, but otherwise I don’t feel like I should be tipping the cashier or workers at Starbucks. The salon owner my mother goes to has a no tipping policy for her employees. She was raised in France and she feels that the tip is included in the services her salon offers. I personally would like to see more of that in the service industry. As far as donations go, the tithing we pay at our church is used to help people in need. I don’t donate additional money to other charities unless it’s something I support personally. Although, I do donate food and clothing often to help others in our community.

Had a wolf appliance repair man at my house last week to do some repairs on my range. Wolf is high end and always expensive, for even small repairs. While paying with CC, a prompt came up asking if I wanted to tip. That was a first. I feel that was just too much considering the cost of the service. However, maybe tipping this technician seems more valid than for a cup of coffee.

I am interested in hearing your thoughts about castor oil for skincare after you try your product. Thanks for sharing beauty information.

If you have never read Unbroken by L. Hildebrand it is a must. Another excellent one is Thou Leadest Me by Fr. Ciszek.

My Son is in Hospitality. (Hotel) I do believe in tipping when service is exceptional. Unfortunately, he was telling us that tipping is not as plentiful as years ago. Hence people are not carrying around Cash as much anymore due to having or caring only their Plastic cards. (Visa’s, Master Card, Debit etc.)
I will say I am totally put off by the Credit Card Machines that start off with 18%, 20%, 25% etc for tipping. Whatever happened to 10%? I find this very BOLD!

Just a hint….might not want to let your basil go to seed as it changes its flavor to a licorice essence and away from the basil flavor…. Tipping is out of hand and I only do it when I really feel I received excellent service and can personally commend a person for that level of service.

I do believe in tipping to some degree. We do donate to our Humane Society plus town events like Stuff a Cruiser at Christmas time. Cans to the girl and boy scouts. Blood drives, clothing and or food bank since these actually stay in our community. Also, speaking of Christmas when we go out to lunch we do secret santa and inform our server so no one knows it was us. We just slip out of the restaurant and feel we made their day. Books often go to our local book nook.
Enjoy the read. Sometimes I have two or three books going at the same time.
