Hello! Don’t forget to turn those clocks back! Good luck to all the NYC marathon runners today, including a good friends son who is running his first today, go get him SZ!!

When it gets dark before 5pm I literally wish I could go into hibernation for 3 months. I am already over winter and it hasn’t even arrived! Finally,  get what “snowbirds” have known all along:)

Hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful fall weekend. Our temps are really dipping and it’s officially full on sweater weather, my absolute fave! Was supposed to be in VA then PB but the plan has been delayed a few days. Its been a busy weekend here, we had two dinners parties two nights in a row plus another gathering, so I am really looking forward to  a quiet day at home.

It made me realize how nice it is to be in someone’s home, I missed and love the intimacy of a seated dinner, lively conversations, it was so enjoyable. It definitely has me wanting to plan a few of my own.

Today, plan to keep it really low key, perhaps doing a little holiday planning, or maybe nothing at all:) It’s a great day for movies and a home cooked meal, perhaps  something good enough to lure my boys home for a Sunday dinner:)  Hope your weekend has gone well, let’s move along to my Seven on Sunday…..

1 A LITTLE TRIP TO THE HUDSON VALLEY I didn’t get to make it to Vermont to take in the fall foliage, despite my best intentions. But I got close and went for the day to the Hudson Valley and Millbrook area to visit a friend for the day. I was also thrilled to stop by Orangerie Garden, also in Millbrook which is a charming and elegant shop/garden center. They also carry some of our products so that was a special treat too. The town is like going back in time, and it was wonderful. Good for the soul! Here are a few highlights…..

2 OUR INCREDIBLE CUSTOM HOUSE AND PET TRAYS. These are definitely a customer favorite. One of the most spectacular gift ideas ever! And, yes that includes to yourself! With the absolute insanity going on in the shipping world, our deadline for guaranteed Christmas deliver this year is much earlier.

This year, our hard and fast deadline for guaranteed delivery is Nov 18th.  So its a great time to order if you have had your eye on one. Just look at the most recent batch. The artistry is truly “next level”. If you place your order after the 18th, there is still a good chance you will get your tray by Christmas, we just cannot guarantee it. Click here for more info

3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST Certainly a well that never runs dry, especially this time of year. So much beauty out there!

4 SOME REALLY GOOD  DOCUMENTARIES When I was laid up with my knee injury last week I went on a movie/documentary marathon. I must have watched at least 15 or more. I was on a bit of a fashion documentary binge,  as soon as one finished, another popped up. Here are some of the ones I really enjoyed.  Some,  I had seen but were good enough to watch again.

This came out a while back but it is so entertaining and a terrific behind the scenes view into  Anna Wintour and Vogue magazine

And this pint sized dynamo made for such a fascinating and entertaining look into her life, both she and her husband are such likable characters!

Have seen this one a few times but it was good enough to watch again, a beautiful look into the world of Valentino and his very glamorous life

And of course if you haven’t seen Very Ralph, you should carve out some time today to do so. So so good, a true American icon and what a story!

5 SOUP SEASON IS HERE!! I make this Mediterranean lentil every fall/winter na it is so so good. I make extra to freeze. It is a wonderful meal, with a crusty loaf of bread and the lentils make it filling. I adore this and think you will too. Found this over at 30 Days of Greek food.

  • 1½ cup (300g) dry brown lentils
  • 5-6cups (1-1½liter) water or vegetable stock
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, cut in chunks
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery sticks
  • 2 bay leaves
  • ¾ cup (200g) passata or can chopped tomatoes or 3 fresh chopped tomatoes and/or 1 tablespoon tomato paste*, dissolved in 6 tablespoons water(I used only the tomato paste FYI)
  • ¼ cup (60ml) olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar for serving each plate
  • Salt and pepper
  • If you have time, soak the lentils overnight in a bowl with lots of water. If not, put the lentils in a large pot and cover them with water. Boil for 2-3 minutes, rinse and drain. Clean the pot, put 5 cups of water (or vegetable stock) over medium heat.
  • Add the lentils, the onions, garlic, carrots, celery, and bay leaves. Cover the pot and simmer over medium to low heat for 30 minutes. Soaking and sprouting reduce considerably the cooking time. If the lentils are soft enough, proceed immediately to the next step.
  • Add the passata or chopped tomato and/or the dissolved tomato paste*. Add the turmeric and cumin and season to taste. Simmer for another 15 minutes until the lentils are soft.
  • Adjust the amount of water/vegetable stock whether you like watery soup or thick soup. If you add more liquid, it should be hot. Add the olive oil 2-3 minutes before you remove the pot from the heat.
  • Serve each plate with 1 tablespoon of red wine vinegar.

6 NEED A LITTLE COLOR?  You know I like to share new products with you. I saw a friend a few weeks ago who at first glace was glowing and looked better than she had in years. I thought she had just come back from a secret tropical vacation she didn’t tell me about:) She told me about a self tanner she loves to use in the winter for a little extra color and she could have fooled me as her tan looked so “real”. I love the look of a sun kissed glow. like anyone else (especially in winter) so I ordered what she swore was one of the best, most natural self tanners she had used.

And it did not disappoint. Unlike many others,  this does not leave you with an orange cast, it really mimics a very natural tan and is super natural. I like the easy to apply mousse and you can go as light or dark as you want. If is the only tanner apparently with a “no orange guarantee”. I was wearing a skirt the other day and my legs were scarily white, so this self tanning mousse was a lifesaver. Need a little color? This will do the trick in 15 minutes flat! I feel so much better with a little color though maybe not quite to the extent that Valentino does:)   Click here for more info (use code LOYAL22  for an extra 10% off)

7 SUNDAY’S SURVEY 2022 is just about 8 weeks away and I know I for one, am very eager to turn the page to a new year in hopes it will be a much more “normal” year. One that will allow us to get back to living our lives as we once knew them and hopefully as the months go on, we will hear the word Covid less and less until hopefully it is nothing but a distant memory. What is your forecast for 2022?

I love the lentil soup/stew recipe! It reminds me of Jacob’s Lentil Stew – he sold his birthright for a bowl of that nourishing lentil stew lol. Delicious and healthy!

A beautiful post, love your fall pictures and thank you for the lentil soup recipe. It sounds delicious! How exciting for your friends son to be running the marathon my husband ran it three years in a row but due to an injury had to give up his running. The porcelain sale looks very good!

I loved everything in your post, especially the documentaries. I make a similar lentil soup and everyone loves it, and so easy! The fall pictures are so beautiful! Thank you!

Can’t wait to try the lentil soup recipe.
Nothing (to me) says holiday warmth like an exquisite RL holiday dinner table. Love love.

Gotta try that soup! I’m a bit tardy this year with making fall/winter soups, but I’ll catch up.

So enjoyed seeing your lovely home on the cover and in the pages of the Nov./Dec issue of Flower Magazine. I have only been reading your blog since it was recommended by Carolyn on her blog and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

A very happy fall weekend. As the leaves turn they become all shades and hues on the trees and are bathed in golden autumn light. It is the season of ‘ mists and mellow fruitfulness’ and I always think of you.
Im so enjoying all your fall decor, delicious recipes and good things to watch- simply cannot wait for House of Gucci 🙂
But most of all Im so full of pride and heartfelt admiration for all your bespoke designs, especially those in the magazines and gracing the covers last week. It really is the most wonderful achievement my darling friend,to see how much you have done and follow your journey. You are a true designer and such an inspiration to me, always..
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the best of your favourite season
All love, Sally xx
