Hi there! I hope you are doing well. The Palmetto Bluff project is humming along. We have not had a chance to get down there as often as we would have liked, so have been doing a lot remotely. Not ideal, but we are getting it done, where there is a will, there is a way:)

As we approach the finishing stages, however I hope to get down there more often. Its been tough with going to my parents every few weeks so doing the best we can. Wanted to share the latest, they are waiting for the shingle siding to dry out and then it will start going up…very exciting! Onward to progress and a few design ideas-

Progress!

We have brick on the chimney’s!

Columns almost done

Cedar shingle roofing on site….

Glad he is not afraid of heights:)

Have to make decisions on lighting very soon so have been laying things out on mood boards to get ideas as to what we like and hopefully narrow things down. We are going for a more transitional/coastal feeling. Narrowing things down and hope to have some decisions made by next week!

Your new house is coming along nicely; and all the choices you’ve shown are lovely too. I’m looking forward to seeing more.

I want to share the name of my new favorite designer book, Stamps & Stamps Style & Sensibility. You may already own it. If not, I believe you’d enjoy it

Coming along nicely. I understand that your time now is better served with your parents.
Do what you can for now and try not to stress.

You’ve chosen beautiful lighting— and the carpeting too. This is a busy time of year. . I hope things are going well and the visits with your parents are good.

Loving your choices. I know you’ll pick just the right ones for their locations! Prayers for your parents. I know how hard this is, we went through this with my mother.

Your New York home is absolutely exquisite whereas I found that the furnishings in your previous home in Palmetto Bluffs was the same as most of the furnishings in photos of coastal living houses. They tend to look like real estate model homes where everything is brand new … all the same colours with no collectibles or interesting antiques and cherished memorabilia. Although many houses have beautiful architecture and offer lots of light, the cookie-cutter interiors are disappointing. Just my opinion.

Everyone has a different definition as to what they deem “beautiful”. For our PB home, we wanted it light, airy and coastal. We got just that and loved it. It worked for us, and was a nice change from the more formal, fussier interior of our NY home (though we love that equally but in a different way). Since I have not even begun to share the furnishings of this new home, think that’s a quick rush to judgment based upon some lighting choices. This home is not conducive to busy patterns, color or antiques. It is an entirely different style/feeling home. What we will do will work for our family and will be what we love. I do not plan on it being “cookie cutter” by any stretch but respect that not everyone will love it. That’s why God made so many different ice cream flavors, something for everyone!

Love all your choices. Your home will be beautiful and to your taste, which is exquisite!
Especially love the transitional/coastal feel.

Loving the coastal feel of your former PB home, and I am certain this one will be equally as beautiful and comfortable!

Good for you! I use to love traditional and still do however as I get older I am loving the clean lines of contemporary and no clutter. Love 1 large piece opposed to several small pieces of accessories. Love neutral colours and don’t care if every magazine and every model home shows the same……it soothes ME! And in my home the only person who is important is me since I spend the majority of time there (my husband couldn’t care less if was grey or pink or black, thank god! He also doesn’t notice if I change something or buy something new….just my kind of guy…maybe not someone else’s) My kids all have their own homes and can do as they choose and they do). Surround yourself with what YOU love.

In response to my statement about the “Sameness” of coastal living interiors, it is not a criticism per se but rather an observation and yes, a disappointment. In our current and rather widespread “cancel culture”, it is not acceptable in social media to give a differing opinion on any topic presented. One is regarded as a troller, hater or a facsimile thereof. Defences arise automatically without any consideration of what is being said … it can be constructive rather than destructive but is dismissed as negative … only adulation is acceptable. A sad state to be sure 🤔.

Tina,
what a time for fun choices! Overwhelming at times, too. I know. This I remember from 29 years ago. THAT is why I have not done it again. At least not YET! I do have a question. Did you post a list on what “wants and needs” to add when building or remodeling?
I remember something about a “Christmas Tree closet”? was this your blog? If so, how can I find the list again?
Great lighting choices! I love the lighting with the clear glass sides (lantern style) most of all!

Love this part of your blog- your Palmetto home selections are what got me hooked! At that time, you shared the manufacturers of the options which was very helpful. Will you be sharing those again? I didn’t see them mentioned for the lighting above. Thank you!
