Good morning! I realized I have fallen off the bandwagon about keeping up with posts on our new home. But I am back and will try to keep this up with some regularity. Afterall,  in Sept we hope to begin our renovation and think it will be fun to see the “before” pictures. There are many rooms we are doing very little to. The room I am featuring today, which is a beautiful, smallish library/office is one such room that we will be making  minor changes to. Ditto living room and dining room (those will be coming up soon).

What I plan to do in this room is to lacquer it in a gray/blue color. I have had this on my mind from the minute I saw this room and can so visualize it. It gets nice natural light, love the bookcases on all the walls, the charming jib door with a hidden jewel of a powder room. I will change wallpaper in the powder room and sink but keep the hardware, as its so pretty and old world. I will also keep the ceiling as is. As you will see, the moldings are just gorgeous and we would not dare touch those either.

I will have some kind of sisal/custom carpet made and keep the beautiful herringbone wood floor exposed. Don’t look too closely at the bookcases, as I literally just threw things on the shelves as we unpacked, just so things would have a place. Very little rhyme or reason to how it all looks. And it is unlikely that will change, since we hope to begin our renovation in Sept.

This furniture is temporary but I will likely do a similar layout except will also add a desk. Other than that, the room will stay as is. I love the vestibule off the foyer with the bell jar lighting  and window and then the other entrance leads to the dining room. So this could be a nice spot to set up a little bar as well if we were having a party or holiday gathering.

Enough talking, let me show you around…..

From the foyer you enter a small vestibule above where I put one of our swag and garland bell jars, there is also built in closet/storage on left wall, window on the right

Above in right corner (where the empty shelves are) is the jib door leading to the small powder room

Floors are beautiful

Beautiful woodwork!

Inside its like stepping back in time how beautiful is this French hardware featuring the shrubs and beautiful door hardware

Matching handprinted toilet:)

The door above leads to dining room

From dining room there is another jib door with the prettiest wood paneling, closed you would never know there’s a room beyond it, but open it makes for a good entertaining flow

Beautiful moldings!

Love the ceiling!

With the jib door closed, eventually I will secure stacks of books on those shelves

Pretty floors too, just need a little polish and they are good to go

I love how the bookshelves light up, it looks really pretty at dusk and in the evening, makes it feel so cozy

And here is a mood board I have started working on about my ideas-

What company and name of the color are you using?
I very much like your mood board.

Thanks! The colors shown are Farrow and Ball Parma Gray and Benjamin Moore Beacon Gray. I will likely use Fine Paints of Europe lacquer paint and they can color match just about anything!

Excuse me, but I don’t understand why you would change anything. It’s absolutely gorgeous just the way it is.

Appreciate it, I have always wanted a lacquered library in either pale gray/blue or taupe and that’s what we are doing…..melding the best of the old with the new.

Such a pretty room I love all the bookcases and of course all the architectural detailing is beautiful, I don’t blame you for not changing it!

LOVE the idea of the blue lacquer that is going to be sensational. can’t wait to follow along😊 Really love this house!

Many thanks…it will be fun to see it transform, keeping the best of the old with new updated touches.

Love, Love, Love to read your updates on the new house!!! I am living thru you to see the new developments!!!! The more pictures the better!!! Don’t stop!!!!

Its either Sherrill Wagner or P.E. Guerin. Think its P.E. Guerin as there are some other hardware pieces in the house with it.

so beautiful…. love the molding and the ceiling…. your mom would love it…. thinking of you and sending so many prayers your way with mother’s day coming up

I’m curious why you would be replacing that beautiful sink. Talk about old world elegance.

Probably not replacing it, but will incorporate it into a new sink base. I love the idea of keeping the old with the new.

Gorgeous !! Stunning home !! It has everything you could dream for !! What is the name and make of the grey/blue paint you plan on using ?? Where do you plan on putting the desk ? I would buy a French desk and chair . I would keep the bathroom as is maybe just change the wallpaper . This house was very well maintained ! Again ! Beautiful !!

I plan on putting the desk against the wall between the windows (they had it that way when we bought it and it worked) OR may do a desk at an angle in far left corner.
Bathroom will get new wallpaper and sink but keeping the hardware, etc….love the idea of mixing the old with the new.

Are you using Farrow & Ball paint for the lacquer? I do like that color your using, would you share what color it is?

Love the house, make it your own.

I’m in the market for a blue/gray paint as well, but for a small guest bedroom. Which are you considering?

I would love to know the color of the blue paint you have on your mood board. I have been looking for that shade.

You are heading right, especially with the blue lacquer. You are leaving the timeless neverending features, but updating to a softer, classic feeling! Bathroom hardware can have a finish changed to gold and the sink reused somewhere else. Is that a Sherrill Wagner? so 80’s……..Carry On!!!!!

Thanks, its either Sherrill Wagner or P.E. Guerin. Either way, keeping them and will work them into new powder room:)

What is the name/manufacturer of that blue paint you have on your mood board? It’s the perfect combo of grey/blue I’ve been searching for. 🙂

What a beautiful room to play with! The ceiling is fabulous, and how fun would it be to trompe L’oil painted objects on the “empty” shelves of the jib door, a la Bunny Mellon in her famous garden shed in Virginia? Having this house on the water is just so wonderful. So happy for you! Enjoy!

Your new home is gorgeous! All those details like the bathroom fixtures and the moldings make this a stunning home. I can see why you like this so much. Thank you for sharing, and I hope you have many happy years in your new home.
