Hi there, can you believe it’s the first weekend of August! Crazy how this summer is flying by. Hope you are enjoying a nice weekend. Here relaxing and trying to check a bunch of things off my list. Tore something in my should/arm likely from playing pickleball (with 2 men last week and likely overexerted myself)! So kind of limited in what I can do right now which stinks, but it is forcing me to slow down!

Lots of rain, and stormy weather this weekend which definitely makes staying in a bit more enticing. Hope you are enjoying this first weekend of August. Onward we go to my post this weekend……

2 A NEW FAVORITE PERFUME This immediately brought me back to staying at my great grandmothers house and in her “pink guest room”, she and her house always smelled so good, a hint of subtle rose everywhere. This brought me right back, I always love any rose infused fragrances and this is so beautiful, soft, powdery and rosy. Found it while out and about in Sag Harbor. A definite recommend! 3 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST A lovely bunch of summer inspired pictures this weekend…

4 A GREAT INSPIRATIONAL VIDEO ON TRADITIONAL KITCHENS As we will soon embark on designing our new kitchen (cannot wait) I am looking for inspiration and though I already have some decisions pretty sealed, I am always on the prowl! Paying special attention to flooring, hardware, countertops, lighting and colors. Can’t wait to share as things get underway here…found this video full of great ideas!

5 TUNA TARTARE So this is something I love to order in restaurants, and have often thought of making at home. Well I finally did and can I say,  that it was every bit as delicious as any restaurant I have had it in. The only downside is that it won’t be nearly as enticing to order when I go out for dinner. Such a pretty appetizer idea too when entertaining (Put mine in empty avocado shells and sprinkled with mircorgreens) . Needless to say there were only empty avocado shells left not the table:)

  • 1 teaspoon chopped shallot
  • 2 teaspoons chopped chives
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons good quality extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce or more if you like it spicy
  • 1/3 cup sushi grade tuna cut into 1/4 inch cubes
  • 1/2 avocado cut into 1/4 inch cubes, to taste
  • ponzu sauce and mayonnaise mixed to taste (gonzo is like soy sauce but also mixed in with citrus and sake)
  • microgreens for garnish, always makes everything look prettier!
  • crackers or cucumber slices for serving

Instructions

  • Combine first 6 ingredients (shallot through sriracha) and stir to combine. Add tuna and and avocado; gently stir to combine. Mound on a small serving plate or press into an oiled mold or small bowl and turn out onto serving plate for a more elegant presentation.
  • Finish with a drizzle of sriracha sauce on plate along with a drizzle of combined ponzu with mayonnaise. Garnish with microgreens if desired and serve with crackers or cucumber slices.

6 FABULOUS CUSTOMER PHOTOS I always love getting your beautiful pictures featuring our products, makes me feel genuinely proud! Keep them coming, send to [email protected]. And thanks for making us look so good!

7 SUNDAYS SURVEY So….it’s only less than 5 months until Christmas. You heard me say it! We have gotten a fair share of Christmas ornaments and holiday gift wrap orders lately which tells me there are more early bird planners out there than I realized. When do you start thinking, planning and executing for holiday decor, holiday planning, etc….

We will soon hold our Christmas in August sale which we have done the last few years where all ornaments, trees and holiday papers get significantly discounted for 3 days, just giving you early planners a heads up! Curious where you stand on this…

I hope you heal quickly from your recent injury! I know pickleball is all the rage but as a fairly fit and disciplined exercise fan, I have yet to try it! Seems I hear about so many who have “accidents” and injuries on the court! My chiropractor’s business is booming!

Pickle Ball is the orthopedic’s favorite money maker. From shoulder injuries, knees and back , all keep PT busy, too.

Ok maybe a slight exaggeration about the orthopeadic friendship

Good morning. Thanks for another beautiful post. I could only vote for 1 favorite ginger jar collection.

I really start serious thinking about Christmas decor in July. Like to have everything in place by Sept./Oct. That doesn’t mean I won’t add clear through December, but I find that it gets more difficult to find interesting decor closer to Christmas.
Canisters–not fond of the green, but that’s not my esthetic. If the ‘blues’ were compatible it might be fun to mix.

In so many of the posts I see, the tablescapes include such beautiful colored glassware/goblets. You often ask some version of “what don’t you see enough of out there?” and I think these are some of those items. Where do people find such beautiful ones? I should probably add that I don’t go into regular retail stores much; I shop online.

Hi Tina,
Thanks, as always, for a great post..and lots of inspo…
I could also only vote for one choice.
I like both #3 and #4. Altho only 4 registered.
Hope you heal quickly….

Y our post today was so beautiful! You incorporated varied subjects that made me smile. Thank you for sharing so many aspects of beauty and a fabulous tuna recipe.

The canisters are just what I have been looking for! They will be great on my kitchen counter that is visible from my family room which is where we spend all of our time. I am hoping they will be available before my fall/Christmas baking begins!!! Can’t wait! I loved the ones with the lighter backgrounds since they will go well with all my other porcelains.
