Moving onto the topic at hand. I get a lot of emails from people who want to know all about my favorite design books, some are newbies to the design world and want to know which are a few must haves for their budding design book collection while others are design book veterans and just want to make sure they aren’t missing out on some fabulous book.
I have had some books for years and still refer back to them often(kind of like how I still look back at my Southern Accents)! But there are some newer additions to my collection that are absolute must haves. So thought this was a great time to share some of my all time favorite design books. Ready? ooooooh i am a bookworm if ever there was one…especially nutty for picture books like these! leslie’s is my favorite, and she has such a magical touch. i may not agree with the quote from mary mcdonald (frankly, i think the play is only as good as its writer, regardless of set design) but that girl is as entertaining as anyone! hope your week is gentle and kind, sweet friend. peace.
Love Carolyne Roehm, too, and have all of her books except A Passion for Interiors…thank you for the reminder! I look forward to checking out (and purchasing) several other books you have introduced me to today. One of my all time favorites is Winter House by Charlotte Moss. Beautiful, warm and cozy. Thanks so much for recommending your favorites! I too love Charles Faudree and Carolyne Roehme. Nothing better than spending time with any of their books! Definitely plan to check out the others!
I am in complete agreement with your favorite decorating books and own almost all on your list. You have shared two decorators I hope to check out in the near future. The New Furlow Gatewood book is fabulous as well.
Can’t wait to get to Barnes and Noble with my grandchildren so we can digg in and look for all the books you shared. They love to search and find new books for me all the time. Then we get the giggles. Wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing.
Tina..It is such a joy to see your level of taste in a world that somehow feel so “denatured” in its design quotient….Nicholas Haslam is now my absolute favorite designer of all..I am reminded in looking at what you have posted here of Edith Wharton’s quote when she said “that she understood so well the capacity of objects to illumine your inner being..” Joanie Grier
LOoove all these books you mentioned. I can sit and read and look at the pictures for hours. Home and garden has always been my passion from a teenager. I also love Betty Lou Phillips book: Unmistakedly French. Thanks for recognizing such great decorators.

I’m from Tulsa and we miss Charles very much. I have toured his personal homes as he would graciously put them on Tulsa home tours. ALL so amazing and fun to see. He lived moving around and redoing homes but always kept his very favorite pieces and made them work….
He had the most amazing decorating shop in Utica Square many years ago when I first discovered him. Piles and piles stacked up and so fun to browse through. Such excellent taste and authentic pieces and accessories displayed so well. His second shop was more modern but still the same taste with a newer look!
Sorry to ramble on….. But such great memories of Charles and can’t believe he’s gone….
Love all of your choices, Tina!
