Hello there….and Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!  I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Ours has been very full. We have been busy all three days and its been a fun whirlwind of a weekend including being the guests of a friends beautiful home on Shelter Island which was such a treat.

Today,  we will be spending Fathers Day with our sons and their girlfriends for a late lunch and boating. So a good weekend all around. Hope you are celebrating all the fathers in your lives! It’s a nice opportunity for us to show our gratitude for all they do and I feel so lucky to have the father I do and regret that we are not together today.

What a truly incredible role model he was and continues to be. My dad has taught me so much throughout the years, but mostly how to be a honorable person with integrity. I learned from the best!

Onward to this Sunday’s post…

4 A BEAUTIFUL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION James T Farmer is the name behind a well known design firm who’s infectious smile seems to be sprinkle a little happiness everywhere he goes. I enjoyed reading this article about a small but very elegant birthday bash James threw and thought it was worth sharing. I liked his ideas on entertaining and needed to be reminded of delegating and taking as much stress off the hostess as possible:) He was also celebrating the release of his upcoming book which looks fabulous and which I have already predorered as it looks like a winner. Click here to read the article at Flowers Magazine and here to preorder his book!

5 A GREAT PEONY VIDEO One of my readers sent hits over and its a great video on how to maximize the life of your fresh cut peonies. Lots of great tips here!

6 A REALLY TASTY SALAD I made a variation of this a few years ago and kind of forgot about it but happy this recipe has been resurrected! It is so good and can be eaten as a salad or you can use it almost like a salsa/bruschetta and serve with tortilla chips. Found this over at Once upon a chef. I really liked it as its very filling and satisfying when served as a meal. Bonus points for being pretty and colorful:)

Servings: 6-8
Total Time: 30 Minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 15-ounce cans black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 3 ears fresh cooked corn, kernels cut off the cob
  • 2 red bell peppers, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons minced shallots, from one medium shallot
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 9 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, best quality such as Colavita
  • 1 teaspoon lime zest (be sure to zest limes before juicing them)
  • 6 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro, plus more for garnish
  • 2 Hass avocados, chopped

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Combine all ingredients except for avocados in a large bowl and mix well. Cover and chill for a few hours or overnight. Right before serving, add avocados and mix gently, being careful not to mash avocados. Garnish with a more chopped cilantro if desired. Serve at room temperature.

7 SUNDAY’S SURVEY  I always value and greatly appreciate your input on new product considerations. This came out of sheer need. By my nightstand I have a whole assortment of things, remote, often my watch and rings go there when I go to sleep, a tube of hand cream, lots of little things. Doesn’t make for the prettiest end table but this are life’s necessities!

So I wanted a pretty box I could put on top of my book stash to hold these items but was only finding plain solid colors or dark wood boxes. So I came up with this idea. They will be lined in velvet (so could be used for jewelry as well). The knob will either be a small pagoda or a small gold flower.

I would do them in blue, pink and green to start. Price point would be about $60ish. Thoughts?

These pictures are not the greatest but certainly give you the idea. Inside will be a cream toned velvet with a few compartments.

Here are some of the pulls I am considering (they were photoshopped on but you get the idea), would love your thoughts on these too!

Your post could not be more timely. I have been on the hunt for just such a box for my bedside table. I would hope you might offer a box unlined or lined. Also, maybe offer one of the boxes in a darker chinoiserie blue.
Can’t wait to see the final results!

What a beautiful post you have today, I love all of the new items that are coming in, I must have two of those lamps in blue they will be perfect for my newly done guest room. And those boxes are genius! I’ve been looking for something like that so you get my vote I also love the idea of adding maybe a soft beige and white or something very tonal. The pagoda knob is my favorite.
I have always enjoyed your book recommendations so will pre-order the book that you have suggested.
hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful Father’s Day.

Adore the boxes…have been looking for the exact same thing…hurry and produce them —perfect accessory for bedroom and office

The pagodas are all so pretty, charming & adorable – I just can’t decide on one!! The colors & patterns are beautiful 🤩!

Love the boxes! Particularly the blue one. Happy Father’s Day to all dads. So glad you still have your dad in your life. Cherish him even more than you already do.

That salad looks delicious. It just may be supper tonight. I’ll have to cut it down by at least half, but it is doable. Thanks for the recipe.

I need green & white sconce shades, could you tell me what you have in green & white please.
