Moving along, by now you know my love of flowers, I can’t imagine life without them and truth is I could easily give up much more expensive “must haves” over flowers. They just make me happy! So on a weekly basis there is always some kind of flowers to be found in my home, sometimes they are even mixed in with my exceptional faux flowers for longevity:)

In any case on a recent trip to the city a few weeks ago I stopped by quickly and picked up a few things and here is the highlights as well as the arrangements I made. Only disappointment and the word disappointment and flower market almost never make it in the same sentence was that the lilacs barely survived the first day.

It could have been also that I didn’t go straight home and had stops to make before I finally made it back.  I have since learned besides a fresh cut, cutting into the stem about an inch and then kind of shredding the ends will help them last longer, good to know! But I made the best of them and still arrange and enjoyed them even if for 24 hours:)

Here are my beautiful cherry blossoms and lilacs getting all wrapped up (US Evergreen)

And my gorgeous white flowers from G Page

Just got home with my “loot”

At home it was easier to bring the lilacs outside and arrange my vases there (too messy for indoors)

They look beautiful in my tall fabulous bird vase (click here)

And this for my center hall table off living/dining room

Arranged these two in the medium Ralph vase

And here is arrangement number one on my hallway console, really like this composition

Later that night friends were stopping by before we headed to dinner so let my candles:)

And the beautiful purple lilacs that did not last long but sure were pretty while they were there

Towards the end as the white flowers were starting to fade, I took out the best and put them in my mint julep cups and made a pretty mantle vignette in my dining room, this is how I maximize the flower life:) Even on their “last leg” they still made a pretty statement.

Hope you enjoyed this post, and for anyone who loves flowers as much as I do, you “get” my need for my weekly fix. They just make me happy and when I can’t get to the flower market in NYC I head to Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or any other local market which while they do not have near the selection, they have enough to fulfill my flower desires particularly when in season.

In a few weeks I will “take you” with me to the most amazing peony farm, stay tuned! Until next time…..

Flowers have the amazing ability to bring happiness to my home and family as well. Just love shopping for them, arranging them, and enjoying them all week, every week. ?

I make slits in the stems of woody flowering branches and then pound them with a hammer for additional absorption. Best down outdoors on a hard surface—stone, brick, etc.

Will you share the name of the peony farm? Or will you tell us when you post the info about your trip? I LOVE peonies and want to make sure I have LOTS! I feel exactly the same way about flowers—can’t do without them and would sacrifice other things to have them! So glad I found you!

Did you slice up the lilac stems one or two inches? It brings them back so they can drink.

TINA, WHY NOT BRING AN ICE COOLER(LARGE ENOUGH TO HOLD WHAT U WANT) WITH YOU. REMOVE THE TOP, FILL HALF WAY WITH WATER OR LESS. IT WILL WORK TILL U GET HOME. LILACS VERY PERISHABLE AND NEED WATER RIGHT AFTER THEY ARE CUT. THEY WILT QUICKLY. HOPE THIS IS OF SOME HELP.

Great pictures! I love the vase on your center hall table…. is that offered on your website? You have so many pretty options….

Beautiful flowers. I believe, a room comes to life when flowers are present. ?

Was going to ask about any tips for prolonging lilacs, but it must be their nature to wilt so quickly. Beauty is fleetiing! Followed your cue and bought hanging baskets to fill the large urns in my garden – brilliant, beautiful and cost effective! Thanks, TIna!
