Hello everyone! Hope you are well, busy, busy weekend over here after a very crazy and hectic week. We had a few social commitments this weekend and one of my best friends and husband is visiting form out of town. So a good but nonstop summer kind of a weekend. They are flying by fast…the back to school sales and fall clothing previews are in full swing.

Hope you are having a great weekend. Absolutely heartbroken seeing the result of the devastating fires in Maui, it is almost hard to wrap your brain around that level of destruction and the pictures/videos emerging just are too much to take. We are honored to be able to support the  Hawaii Relief effort and will donate 10% of all sales Sat and Sunday to Catholic Charities of Hawaii . We have a 25% off all new arrivals (ends tonight)  they is absolutely worth checking out! It’s a win/win.

OK time to move along with my post this Sunday…

1 CLOSEST THING TO NAPA We went with friends to the North Fork of Long Island , also home to many wineries and farms, and just a beautiful spot on Long Island. Most wineries feel pretty generic except my favorite, Croteaux which is just so charming and feels like a little slice of Napa. We went on a beautiful late afternoon then had dinner at Southern Social, which was excellent. How I wish it was closer. We met the chef, Franoics Payard who was so friendly and kind, and beyond talented! Both stops if you are in the area or will be visiting are highly recommended!

And dinner at Southold Social was such a treat!

2 A FAVORITE EASY LIGHT LUNCH Should have prefaced this post by warning you, if you are hungry to hold off reading:) I make this at least 2-3 times a week. There is a little local Greek place where I pick up their falafels. I get my favorite wrap which is super low in carbs, slice up a nice ripe tomato, cut up 2 small Persian cucumbers, and sometimes a little red onion. I spread hummus on the wrap (which I put into a skillet for about 2 minuses to warm up and it gets a little crispy) then add the falafel, tomato and cucumber. SO good and healthy!

3 AN INCREDIBLY INSPIRING STORY I was so touched when I read about Gordon Wayne and have since been following him on Instagram (click here) . If this story doesn’t touch you don’t know what will. This is truly remarkable and a testament to the will of the human spirit and what people can do under the most dire circumstances.

Homeless a year ago Gordon worked while applying to community colleges, eventually landed at Boston College and decided to raise awareness for homelessness by walking a staggering 500 miles from his hometown in West Virginia all the way to the stadium of his college. Just inspiring all the way around! I think we are going to hear and see much more from this remarkable young man! Click here for his Go fund me page

4 INSTAGRAMS OF INTEREST Just a beautiful roundup of random prettiness…

5 LEAVE IT UP TO RALPH Saw pictures of this exquisite barn party and almost fell off my chair from how beautiful it is!! I love the rustic meets elegance vibe. What a beautiful soiree. Courtesy of the incomparable Ralph Lauren!

7 SUNDAY’S SURVEY The weather, given what has happened in Hawaii and many other incidences around the world has proven our earth is warming up. Temperatures in so many places have reached new highs/ extremes and July was the hottest month on record.I personally find it frightening.

Curious if you have experienced these crazy temps or erratic weather patterns in your corner of the world? We certainly have, I had never seen hail until about a month ago, have had unbelievably strong storms move in with no warning. Never quite had this weather instability,  ever that I can remember. How about you?

Tina-after seeing Hawaii, many people are frightened but even the Hawaiians have said it has more to do with a hurricane that passed by than anything-nothing has happened anywhere that hasn’t happened before-weather patterns change off and on. more and more scientists are coming out and saying that climate change is a sham-of course, they also have to fend off many attacks-don’t make up your mind yet. At least twice in the past [ 1946 and sometime in the ’60’s] tsunamis have hit Hawaii with disastrous results-these things just happen

Such beauty!! i love your highlights from the farm and winery. You take amazing pictures!
The wrap you made looks so delicious. I’m going to try that..
I know about Gordon Wayne because my daughter is at Boston College. He is really an inspiration, thank you for such a wonderful and uplifting post.
and thank you for helping to raise money for the shattered Hawaiian islands. I still cannot believe what has happened there.

Hi, absolutely beautiful post, always such a good positive way to start my Sunday mornings. Thank you so much for helping to support the tremendous need in Hawaii. Yes, our weather has been unbelievably hot, humid with very severe storms that pop out of nowhere. Anyone who doesn’t believe in global warming, is hiding under a rock.

True our weather has been unpredictable but if you ever heard of the Cabal and CERN, well that is the reason for these nefarious weather changes. They want you to think the planet is heating up so that they can implement their 30 year world control plan. The earth is actually cooler now as it heads into its cycles. If you’re not familiar with these two names it would be worth your while and humanities to go down that rabbit hole. If you’re seen the “Sound of Freedom “, and another good suggestion, you’ll get a glimpse of this satanic Cabal Elite groups nature.

Our weather has been crazy! We had a hail storm a few weeks ago and major winds and extreme heat the last 3 days. YES, global warming is happening. And we the conspicuous consumers and our carbon footprint are to blame. I try to do my part but most do not. They will realize it when it’s too late. I fear the world we are leaving the next generation.
Beautiful pictures, Tina. Loved the winery pics, we are going to Southampton in Sept for a wedding so will try to make a pit stop there. Always love your food pictures too. They make me hungry and this is coming form a non cook, haha,

Another believer in the reality of global warming here. I also believe humanity needs to take responsibility for all its years of misusing resources. We have such a beautiful world, and the defenses some people throw up to avoid caring for it are disgusting.

Barbara’s comment below is accurate. “Nothing has happened anywhere that hasn’t happened before. Weather patterns change off and on. More and more scientists are coming out and saying that climate change is a sham.” (Well put Barbara.) And to ask if people have had warmer temps in the middle of August is a funny question. Of course most people will say yes. It’s supposed to be hot in August. Remarkably, it is going to be beautifully cool in the midwest this week. This past week, we were in Big Sky, Montana where it has been delightfully cool for two weeks, but now is back to their typical weather! In January, it’s usually cold. In August, hot.

Try to follow the money: If the day ever comes that you see the uber rich selling their ocean front homes to head for the middle of the state, then you might perhaps be concerned. But as long as the uber R’s of the World Economic Forum (and their ilk) are promoting that we all stop using gas cars and hot water heaters and eat fake meat to save the environment, while THEY consume lux Waygu in Napa and then fly the next day on their private jets to The Vineyard the next day to have surf and turf, I think we are all ok. We all need to get out of your comfort zones and read some other news sources! We will all be surprised what we learn!

I enjoyed this post very much. Our weather is warm, and hot; but I can’t say it’s warmer than our norm—however we have had much more rain than previous summers; and It’s been a blessing considering that our winter lacked the cold temps and snow we typically get. This caused very dry landscapes in the spring. All this said, I think we are seeing More than normal strange dangerous weather all over the world. It is heartbreaking anytime a country experiences weather catastrophes and loss of human life and wildlife (livestock, farms too.)
Thank you for offering a way to donate and help the people of Hawaii.
I enjoyed all the beautiful photos, especially Ralph Lauren’s stunning soirée.
Summer is going too quickly. I love and seem to thrive tremendously better with the long days and all the beauty outdoors. We have to make the most of what’s left. Enjoy.

Beautiful post all around! Ralph Lauren never disappoints! The Gordon Wayne story was unique and inspirational. The Hawaiians attribute the disaster to hurricanes and fierce storms, not global warming, say they have seen weather like this in the past. Love your recipe as always. Thanks for sharing beauty.

Global warming is real, and we are undoubtedly seeing the results. Because it’s not just the record breaking weather we are experiencing here in the US … it’s everywhere. I am not an educated expert in the field, so I rely on the consensus of researchers who have dedicated their lives to these studies. Not to conspiracy theorists outliers. There are proven facts that human (mis)behavior has accelerated the warming of the earth, and we would be fools to bury our heads in the sand and ignore these warning signs. Do we really care so little about our grandchildren and future generations, that we would rather turn a blind eye and leave them a disastrous world climate to contend with? Not I, and I hope more will folks will wake up to the realities right before our eyes.
As far as the unfathomable disaster on Maui, someone else mentioned that it was caused by the hurricane passing nearby. Rubbish. We spend winters with friends in Hawaii. Do you know how many hurricanes have had near misses with the Hawaiian islands yearly? … yet this disaster has never happened before! Yes, the hurricane fanned the flames, but there were many more extenuating factors that came in to play, and all the experts are pointing to global warming as the cause.
On a lighter note, I so much enjoy the lovely photos you always share with us … both from your own beautiful homes, but also the fabulous instagram sites you find. It gives me such inspiration. Thank you very much!

the fires were started by arson, deliberately set in different locations at the same time.
same thing happened in Canada
wake up America! the media are feeding you a line of bull

Denise, thank you for being so eloquent…..I couldn’t have said it better. People seem to prefer the head in the sand method than facing facts from teams of experts around the WORLD. As a recent example look at all the disbelievers of Covid. No matter what the WORLD experts were saying, no matter the number of deaths in the WORLD they were and are believing what a handful of politicians are saying in the US.
Very narrow, limited thinking. Reminds me very much when I studied Hitler and it scares me.
**AMJEAN** please read everything before you submit and spread misinformation…..go to Hawaii Police Dept and read the FACTS

I’m not scared, but tired of the weather pattern in our Texas. No fear! Ready for fall!

Aloha from Hawaii
Wind gusts 30-60 MPH are not uncommon here. A hurricane passed to the south which caused the increase in trade winds.
Cause of the fires is under investigation.
Tragic, devastating, unbelievable…the loss of life and destruction.
Thank you for caring and donating
Mahalo nui loa

You provoked my interest in lightning the look in my home. Love your design idea and the wonderful pieces I have bought from Enchanted Home. Love reading your articles.

Hawaii is a national tragedy no matter what your personal politics are on. I’m just prayerful that more survivors are found and we take care of our lawful US citizens.
